***

This time to the highest level ang kanila dahil ang mananalo ay puwedeng maging Hollywood star. Yes as in magkakaroon ng chance na gumawa ng pelikula sa Hollywood - kasama na rito ang Wrinkles at As We See It Pictures.

By the way, bukod sa pelikula, meron pang walk-on role ang mananalo sa isang American soap opera.

Eric Quizon dreams the Hollywood Dream

If you wish to know what Filipino actor will break into mainstream Hollywood, don’t miss to watch "Hollywood Dream" which ABC 5 will soon air.

Conceptualized and produced by Romeo Joven, "Hollywood Dream is a reality-based star search which will select two winners who will be flown to the United States, become regular members of the Screen Actors Guild (SAG) and appear in the movie "Wrinkles."

Eric Quizon will host "Hollywood Dream" aside from being the associate director.

Eric said that "Hollywood Dream" will open doors for Filipino actors. It’s every actor’s dream to make it in Hollywood. With a SAG membership, then the Filipino actor will find it easier to break into mainstream Hollywood."

Eric and producer Romeo are hoping that the show will attract a lot of Filipino actors, capable and talented, from the movies, television or from stage, ages 18-45. Casting call for "Hollywood Dream" is scheduled April 16-23 at the ABC studio compound from 9:00 a.m. onwards Applicants must bring headshots, resume and a two-minute monologue of their choice.

Eric said they will choose 12 from the applicants. They will be cast in the 14-week episodes of the show which will air in May. The 12 shall undergo training in all aspects of acting, like drama and comedy. Their performances will supervised by respected judges coming from showbiz.

Different tasks will be given to the selected cast, including a challenging stunt sequence. They will also perform dramatic acting, dancing and singing.

"Of course there are so many talented actors in the US, but it’s a matter of getting a good break," Eric stressed. "We must be sure that whoever wins in the show is really capable and talented enough!"

Why Eric was tapped to host the show, producer Joven said: "Eric is super talented. He is not only a good actor but a good director and producer as well. It’s easy to work with him!"

The movie "Wrinkles" has a role for a Pinoy actor — about a Pinoy who has been living in the US and now comes home to look for his roots. He learns about his roots in a beauty pageant where grandmothers are vying for the title. Dean Cain of "Loi and Clark" and "Ripley’s Believe It or Not" plays the lead role in "Wrinkles."

Hosting is nothing new for Eric. But "Hollywood Dream" excites him since he will be a witness to the unfolding of potential of a Hollywood Filipino star. Despite shuffling from one TV job to another, he accepted "Hollywood Dream" because it doesn’t pose any problem. It runs only for one season.

Eric is in ABS-CBN’s "Quizon Avenue," a comedy show with his father Dolphy and brothers Epi and Vandolph.

Eric has also his own travel show with Epi on RPN 9. And he directs, with Dominic Zapata, "Darna" on GMA-7. Darna, without having flown yet last Thursday, already scored 50% in the survey.

Eric enjoys his craft — acting and directing that he finds no problems in his schedules. He feels fulfilled as an actor, director and host.

With regards to "Darna," he said that it was accidental that he became the director. It was Joel Lamangan who was supposed to direct Darna, but he left. The position was given to Eric. For him, Dominic Zapata was the best choice as co-director because of his experience in special effects for "Mulawin."

"Darna" has a captured market, from "Mulawin."

It appears that Eric is following the footsteps of his father.

"I work hard, but at age 70, I will do it cool," Eric said "It’s difficult to approximate what my father has achieved."

Prizes to be given by "Hollywood Dream" are: The winner will be flown to California and New York with full accommodations and a car service, a part in an upcoming film from As We Can See It Pictures, the SAG membership worth $4,000, acting workshops, auditions, among others.

Hence, exposing his butt cheek.

HE road to Hollywood is anything but blissful. This was what professional Filipino actors discovered when they auditioned for the newest reality-TV show on ABC 5, Hollywood Dream, which will be shown this May.

The show opens the gates of Hollywood to Filipino actors. It promises Hollywood movie roles and other attractive incentives, such as a Screen Actors Guild Card and appointments with Hollywood and New York casting directors and commercial producers.

The first round of auditions at the ABC studio complex last weekend gathered hordes of TV personalities, stage talents, and even newcomers who went through the mandatory interviews and rigorous—and sometimes funny—screenings, supervised by director Boots Plata. Fil-Am writer and producer Romeo Joven also sat as a judge.

Early birds who received nods were Giselle Sanchez who wowed the judges with her versatility and Roxanne ‘Roxie’ Barcelo, a former GMA talent, who now has an album with Universal Records.

Other talents who caught the judges’ attention were Juliana Palermo, John Arcilla and Rey PJ Abellana. Young stars Lester Llansang, Princess Schuck and Czarina Perez de Leon also made the first cut. Even sexy stars Miguel Garcia of Viva Hot Men and Dennis Coronel upped their game and received good comments.

When the talents were asked to introduce themselves and perform a monologue, the studio instantly turned into a melting pot of emotions—from hilarious, miserable and pathetic to absurd—as Direk Boots created scenarios for the talents to act out. Palermo was asked to move like a drunken monkey (a sultry one, it turned out) while Czarina Perez was given a drama sequence.

Direk Boots delivered his remarks ala American Idol’s Simon Cowell. The cynicism, he says, is with good reason.

“The objective is to break into Hollywood and I believe that the Filipino can make it if we can be true to our selves, to our feelings, and not try to imitate Hollywood stars.”

Hollywood Dream mastermind Romeo Joven played the subdued, albeit crucial judge (think Randy Jackson) who determined the fate of applicants by giving a star (their ticket to the next leg of eliminations) or a curt “thank you.”

Indeed, more aspirants received “thank yous” than stars. One brave soul even suffered the long waiting lines only to break down in front of the judges and wail his way out of the studio.

Another hopeful was reprimanded after saying that he auditioned to help her parents. Pointed out Direk Butch: “Escape from poverty or financial considerations are never good reasons in pursuing an acting career. Pure love for the craft is the right motivation.”

Show director Luigi Santiago has this to say to Hollywood aspirants: “Know your English. You have to be versatile. Then again, pure talent can take you to Hollywood. You just need the right connections. This show will give you the connections.”

With that, the Hollywood Dream staff expects bigger traffic in the next round of auditions. Producer Armida Siguion-Reyna and Joel Lamangan will join the two judges as soon as the final cast is drawn up.

Did anyone see yesterday's episode---It felt uncomfortable with them all doing an all-english sitcom. If they weren't talking with pseudo American accents, they were using stilted english
e.g. John Arcilla: What's the del? (deal)
I did think it was no biggie, nothing a speech workshop can't fix. But i really thought that Geisler kid would get the boot. His acting was straight out of the Palibhasa Lalake school of acting!
