X-pac, don't be so hard on yourself. Your college life is just beginning and things have a way of settling down as time passes. If you're having difficulty with your acads, I think the best way to deal with that is to approach your teacher and schedule a consultation meeting with him. Some organizations in the university, offer tutorial or review classes on certain subjects, enlist yourself in those too. Lastly, don't study hard, study smart!

Where are you studying by the way?

:)

You should know how to budget your time. I'm sure you have lots of free time, but the tendency is to waste them on trivial matters. I suggest that you make a daily schedule and stick to it. Another thing is you have to study everyday. Spend at least two hours at night reviewing your notes and preparing for your next-day classes. If you have a free period after a class, browse through your notes in that class or review for the next class. Don’t ever lag behind your lessons. It pays to be ahead. Always.

And of course, always give yourself a break. ;)

This has been proven and tested even when we're still in grade school... hanggang mag-college ka effective pa rin ito:
SUMISIPSIP KA sa prof mo.

Ngayon, if the teacher still looks unaffected (which is usually a rare case) by what you're doing, just pray I guess. Basta no matter how terrible your prof is, huwag mo silang kakalabanin. Because as far as you're concern, he/she is your messiah.

I don't think this'll always work. Sure you can be extra sweet to your prof, but I doubt it will change your mark significantly. I have had teachers who were my good friends outside the classrooom , but they would not hesitate to reproach me in class, and would just laugh at my palambings and pasipsips. Besides, would you stoop down to so low a level? I don't think passing a subject by being sipsip is something to be proud of. If you want a high mark, work hard on it!

rao: I couldn't agree more with you. Most Math, Physics, or Chemistry teachers usually pattern their questions from the exercises in the book.

relax while you're studying. wag masyado seryosohin kasi pag pressured ka na isaksak lahat yan sa utak mo hindi yan papasok. if you feel tired, rest for a while then review your notes again. remember, it's all about how you approach college. if feeling mo your instructors are torturing you at marami talagang gawa, mapre-pressure ka talaga. think of them as opportunities to learn something new.

also, it never hurts to get to know dependable people in every class. they'll help keep you up-to-date, in case you're lagging behind. join them for those group study sessions and any group work. but don't forget to make a contribution! nobody likes a freeloader and you might quickly find yourself excluded. :D

i wouldn't recommend sucking up to teachers either. but don't hesitate to see them after class or during their consultation hours to discuss aspects of a lesson that you're having difficulty with. they are usually very helpful and might even give you tips on how to handle the problem.

baka kasi nag-kakaroon ka ng mental blocks when taking the test. so why don't you try to simulate a test with friends. iyon bang you try to guess what the teachers will ask, then compile the questions, and take the test in an alloted time...

also, please try to get a good night's rest before a test. when you are refreshed and relaxed you are also mentally and physically sound...

just relax when you're reviewing your notes, like you're just reading an interesting story or something. if you do find them interesting enough, believe me, it'll help you remember things in a very enlightening manner.

now with regards to having mental blocks upon taking exams... hmm... just don't get nervous! like you're just recalling the details you have read in a particular "interesting story". hehe

peace.

high school life is far different from college life. maybe you need a little getting used to in college. don't be too rough on yourself. observe and be sensitive to the changes and learn to adapt. and don't worry coz you're still just in your freshman year. forget about the low grades you had. you may just have had a bad start but keep on kicking to make yourself better everyday. good luck! :)

Hey dude, frosh year should be only a time for transition or adjustment. I guess it would be best to ask yourself "Is this the right major for me?" People usually incur problems because they're in the wrong degree program.

Another advice is never forget the adage, "work hard, play harder." Learn to relax man. College is supposed to be fun not just stress.

My last advice is study in the morning, like around 3AM. When you study at night, the brain tend to be more tired. In the morning, after plenty of sleep, the mind is usually fresh and oozing with brain juice.

Good luck kid!

xpac...

first of all, don't see college life as a burden. as long as you view it as such, it will be a burden. i mean, enjoy every minute of it...and when you know it, you've already appreciated being in college.

when it comes to studies, i guess the best thing to do when you don't understand something is to ASK QUESTIONS. hello, why should professors think that students know the answers to their questions? they don't actually expect us to know everything...KAYA NGA TAYO STUDENTS E...WE HAVE TO LEARN FROM THEM. and if they dont teach well, tell them right there and then that you dont understand! or better, just continue to be diligent and you'll be rewarded for your patience.

i guess another thing to do to survive college is to BE KIND TO EVERYONE... may they be professors, fellow students, classmates, schoolmates, employees, etc. you might need their help sometime...so just be kind.

and lastly, if you believe in a God, pray to your God. if not, just do your best.

good luck!!!

the best way is to relax...dont try too hard magkakamental block ka talaga nun...dont force yourself to know everything. alamin mo lang ang kaya mong alamin. and lastly try to study with other people. you may not know what they know and they may not know what you know so help each other. relax ka lang, x-pac, college is supposed to be really, really fun... :D
