Check out SWAY...
The shop is located in Santol, Sta. Mesa...beside a Seaoil gas station. I find their clothes a lot nicer and more fashionable than those of Luscious and Tubby...cheaper too :)

problema ko rin yan.......kasi even sa marks and spencer sa hong kong hindi ako satisfied sa fitting....so ang ginagawa ko na lang......i look for styles in the internet or magazines then i have the clothes tailor made for me.

kasi there are so many fabrics available naman and she can do whatever style she wants. very frustrating talaga yan, especially kasi lagi nalang if clothes are being worn by standard size women magandang tingnan pero pag ako na ang nagsukat, it's just too frustrating.

hello all, sway is the best plus sized shop ive been to so far. They are kinda out of the way, but really worth the travel for. I came from alabang pa, i saw their ad on the philstar, and it is really a place i wouldnt hesitate to go to again and again kahit malayo. The prices are gr8 too! their pieces are pang mga nights out and parties, dressy tops, not much on casuals, they are sexy, sophisticated styles that u can wear on specil dates and stuff. i got to preview their swimsuits also, cutie! but next week pa daw available so i will hav to go back. check them out, u wont be disappointed!

Apr 9, 2005, 03:27 AM
sway is located in Sta. Mesa...sorry, i don't know the exact location (coz i'm bad with directions! buti nalang may driver ako!)...but here's their cell#09173243377...you can try texting them nalang for the directions...comparatively nga, mas mura sa sway kaysa sa luscious, faro, tubby and of course, marks and spencer...and yes, they have really dressy tops, skirts and pants...not much on casual pieces...they can even repair the clothes you'll buy if hindi sakto yung fit sa iyo--while you wait!!! and the owner, prim, is very nice and accommodating...they carry sizes 8-28 nga pala...goodluck and happy shopping!!! ;)

sammy919
Apr 9, 2005, 04:35 PM
sorry, i believe they only have plus sized women's clothes. Sway is along Santol street, they are beside seaoil in Santol street, i dont know their exact address, but it is very easy to find, once u get to santol street in sta mesa, u can ask where seaoil is and their building is ryt beside seaoil. =) cheerbear already posted their cell num, their landline is 7143725. Happy shopping!!!

You guys know where fashion designer Edward Teng's shop is? Columbian Towers in Santol, Sta. Mesa...the Seaoil station is across it and beside that naman, is SWAY! You won't regret going to that shop...my mom had the grandest time trying out a lot of clothes there! Parang gustong bilhin lahat eh! :)

I'm super plus sized. I wear size 3x American ha. 3x in the PI is small kasi. One good source for relatively cheap clothes meant for export to the US is to go to the Karl Edwards bazaar. They hold it several times a month either in the NBC Tent or dun sa Roxas (dunno where there). I go to the NBC one since dun ako mas malapit. I was able to buy nice coats, shorts, exercise suits, shirts there. I love my pambahay shorts which I got for 100 to 150 pesos.

I'm thinking of making an online petition for retailers to offer plus-sized clothings. As of this moment, I don't know how to go about it pero if somebody here wants to help, PM me or join the International Size Acceptance Association Philippines mailing list. Dumadami ang plus-sized sa Pinas and I think it's the right time to urge clothing manufacturers to offer NICE clothes for the abundant femmes. And hommes na rin

try Karl Edwards International Bazaar at the Fort. A lot of the sellers there are exporters so they carry big sizes and most are corporate wear. Di ko lang alam kung kelan ulit yung bazaar but I think they hold it at least twice a month on weekends. It's at the NBC tent.

Aug 4, 2006, 08:09 PM
SM DEPT- ok ang pants dito... madaming choices like pazzo, mavi and yung maxi ata - may skirts pa and bermudas ... pero ang choice ko **** yung mga maong pants and skirts. pag nagsale as low as 250 ... pesos! grabe noh?!

question: anu ba yung nasa gateway??? luscious ba yun???

rinoa
Aug 7, 2006, 06:20 PM
^ the XL size at Bayo and Kamiseta are still usually small. Parang size 14 lang ata mga yun eh.

Sa Robinson's Department store, meron dun Maxi. Cute minsan nung mga clothes nila. I prefer that over Julia's

^skinny jeans are a no-no or me, because my legs are quite umproportional to my bod. unlike some other plus size girls, their body is proportional all-over. ako kasi, big on the tummy and hips. and thighs. dun nagconcentrate kaya pangit tignan kung magsskinny ako. a slight flared jeans or straight cut always worked for me. :)

buti nga sa SM department stores, may dedicated section na for plus size e. :)

Triglyceride2
Sep 3, 2009, 12:18 PM
ako rin skinny jeans doesn't look good on me , you're right about the slight flare or bootcut, I find that those cut are the most flattering :)

I think retailers should clue in on this, it's a market you know

hi guys...pls give me advice where to buy plus size clothes...she's 39 and very conservative....help naman pls....

sa DEBENHAMS (trinoma) and Marks & Spencer (trinoma/shangrila mall). malalaking trousers and blouses napakarami diyan.

i STRONGLY recommend this:
the smartest thing she can do is go to a tailor and have her clothes made. it is because plus-size clothes tend to not foresee the HEIGHT of plus-size women. usually ok ang fir horizontally pero vertically hindi maganda ang fit.

she can always naman refer to magazines and askthe tailor ano ang magandang fabric. also, pwede rin siya magapagaya. she can borrow clothes as samples from friends/relatives and ask the tailor to copy.

Hello ladies,

I am new to this forum. Baka naman you can help me. I hope you don't mind me asking a favor on this post.

I found this thread and it seems we are all on the same boat and I think it's about time for plus size women to take action.

I am currently conducting a research on the plus size clothing market in the Philippines.

I am an aspiring entrepreneur and I would like to bring in stylish and WEARABLE plus size clothing to the Philippines.

I am a full figured woman myself and like many of you, I am tired of not finding the right clothes to wear for the right occasion.

I would greatly appreciate it if you could take part in a quick survey.

HERE IS THE LINK: http://www.surveymonkey.com/s.aspx?sm=1yfIf2iwNt7RbTGg_2bMPN1A_3d_3d

Thank you very much in advance and please feel free to share this survey with all our full figured sisters who may be interested to take part in the survey!

hi Triglyceride2! i know i little on alterations at may sarili akong sewing machine. minsan i alter my clothes to really fit me. hindi naman bawal magdress up ang mga curvy women di ba. minsan naisip ko magdress up at magpakuha sa isang professional photorapher, then i'll make my own portfolio. who knows. :) wala pang plus sized supermodel na Asian.

I like this dress but I'm not sure how it will look on me..I'm a little .... wary of printed fabric

...although not a fan of printed dresses, I have to give this Alexander McQueen dress an exception ( I'm not so crazy about Drew's hair)

but , gosh if I can sew ...or if I can find a dress that's of this...style and my size, I'd wear it ...less the print ..I don't know :)

Have you ladies heard for Beth Ditto? I haven't until now. She's an American rock musician who just launched her own plus size clothing line. There is nothing wrong shopping for a plus size clothes... But, the bad part here is that, you'll never get the drive to shape up and look for normal clothes... ;)

I was once doing that.. shopping for plus size..dami dayn, meron sa tutuban... they even have sizes like 6XL... :eek:pero, come one point in my life I'm really jealous that I can't shop for normal clothes anymore.. and it pisses me off...

I tried all stuff, from slimming tea to diet pills to starving myself and exercise... It all work but ain't healthy...and nawawala yun drive ko from time to time...then my friend gave me a DVD series of the America's Biggest Loser... That's where I know I can loose so much weight in 6 months time...with the right exercise and diet...;)

Just sharing lang..hope you guys don't find me ma-epal or what... Success story sya sa akin and now I don't need to shop for plus size anymore... from XL down to L and Medium... I'm a winner!!! *okay*

Well...season 8 of The Biggest Loser just started... you can watch it at the below link or at youtube... hope it'll give a few people motivation in loosing weight... :)

That's where I know I can loose so much weight in 6 months time...with the right exercise and diet...

Just sharing lang..hope you guys don't find me ma-epal or what... Success story sya sa akin and now I don't need to shop for plus size anymore... from XL down to L and Medium... I'm a winner!!!

Well...season 8 of The Biggest Loser just started... you can watch it at the below link or at youtube... hope it'll give a few people motivation in loosing weight...

http://www.tudou.com/programs/view/RIN7sXj9kkw/

Been there..done that..will never fcuking go back again...

Thank you. I love that show.

We are our own worse critics. There are so many people out there who are not happy with themselves. There are the skinny but sad ones or as you put it "normal" but sad ones....."normal" but happy ones...fat but sad ones...fat but happy ones.

Society ...culture...the media, has always been taylored towards the "normal" sized people. We are all meant to believe that "normal" is to to be skinny. That only skinny people can look hot, sexy and fabulous.

It's still a long road but , the shift in the paradigm is starting. Beautiful is not just limited to the "normal" stuff we've all been used to.

If a person is not happy with who they are , then no amount of weightloss, dietpills, liposuction, skin whitening, trips to Vicki Bello and pretty clothes can make them feel any better about themselves. We can't rely on these outer sources for that. We can't give up on ourselves, we have to stick up for ourselves because no one else would.

It appears that you are content about yourself because of your weightloss. I'm happy to hear about that. Good for you. We all can be beautiful and fabulous regardless of what size. I'm sure you are still the same beautiful and fabulous person, with or w/o the extra pounds. Thank you again for your insight.

Anyway, back to plus sized fashion , check out this line from Ashley Stewart's summer collection and I think another designe whose name I don't know and I am so sorry

and it comes in other forms

and you ladies might not have this going on but I do, I wish the fat that I have on my double chin would move to my tatas or butt :D , so everytime I have my photo taken it's always at a higher angle :D , it gets "minimized" somehow :hmm:

Hi P

...girl it's all about the jeans that you buy. My sister has no @$$ but found this incredible pair that actually gave her an @$$

I buy jeans that has 3% spandex so that it has that "give"

this store called Lane Bryant used to carry this pair of jeans in the Venezia line that I swear, I think they took my measurements and they came up with it - fits me well , like...flatters the padump-padump and thighs :D

and believe it or not Jessica Simpson has this plus size line of jeans that also fits well , I'm wearing my pair right now.

I just have to look for the "Short" length though because oddly, average is still too long for me but "short" sometimes fall a little bit short too but more manageable

I've seen the brand Seven7 jeans on plus size women and they also look great on them, maybe I should be me a pair:

I came across this article by Ashely Falcon :

Here's the link: http://www.marieclaire.com/fashion/trends/articles/ashley-falcon-plus-size-stylist?src=promo&mag=mar&dom=twitter

This is the article copy and pasted

Big Girl in a Skinny World
Meet Ashley Falcon, proof that fashionistas come in all shapes and sizes.

I'm the most stylish among my friends. Growing up in Miami's tight-knit Cuban community, I was the girl everyone sought out for fashion advice, the one who transformed boring outfits into head-turning looks with the flick of a collar or the cinch of a belt. Of course, it surprised no one that I decided to pursue a career as a fashion stylist—though at 5'2" and 220 pounds, I'd need an elaborate pulley system and a can of Crisco to shimmy into the clothes I dress models in. Instead, I'm relegated to the plus-size racks, where trendy usually translates into "when's your due date" empire waists and cinch-sack drawstrings. It's not easy being chic, but it's an epic struggle when you're a big girl.

Case in point: Not long ago, while interning at a fashion trade publication, I scored a last-minute invitation to an industry cocktail party. I was giddy with anticipation—I can't believe I get to mingle with Marc Jacobs! But my joy quickly turned to dread when I realized that I was wearing boyfriend jeans and an oversize blazer, hardly appropriate for this Stoli-and-stilettos mixer. As I stood in the fashion closet, scanning the sparkly numbers that would barely make it up my thigh, I frantically weighed my options. There wasn't enough time to run home and change, and dashing over to the nearby Banana Republic was out of the question—their XLs are typically available only online. With literally nothing to wear, I bagged the event and spent much of the evening sulking on my couch.

I've struggled with weight—and how to camouflage it—my whole life. The skinniest I've ever been was in high school, when I weighed 150 pounds and subsisted on nothing but undressed salads. I long ago made peace with the fact that I'll never look good in a slinky dress or pleated paper-bag-waist pants, even if Coco Chanel herself came back from the dead to hand-stitch them for me. So I stick to cuts that always flatter—even in a size 18—like wrap dresses and pencil skirts. Then I'll style up dowdy items with high-end accessories, like the staggeringly awesome Louboutins I scored for Christmas or the YSL bag I recently got on sale. Big girls love accessories—they always fit, no size tags required.

My most persistent, most daunting wardrobe challenge is finding that perfect, all-occasion pair of slimming, lengthening, ***-hugging jeans. Let's face it, it's a maddening task for girls even half my size, but I go through at least a few pairs of jeans every year, routinely wearing holes in the area where my thighs rub together. My requirements: no muffin top, butt crack, or camel toe. That's a tricky set of demands considering that most jeans for the size-14-and-up set are either woefully ill-fitting or designed like industrial coveralls—solely to hide the body, style be damned. I suspect that's why so many big girls squeeze into sizes far too small for their ample builds. At least sausages have shape, right?

Still, I won't settle when it comes to jeans and insist on buying only those pairs that make me feel comfortable, sexy, and confident. They must work for my body. Which is why I've spent untold hours in countless fitting rooms squeezing into hundreds of pairs of relaxed fits, boot-cuts, straight-legs, and low-rises.

Ladies, I've road tested them all.

Ms. Falcon herself

http://www.marieclaire.com/cm/marieclaire/images/RS/1109-size-matters-5-mdn.jpg

....if there is a bootcamp for fashion and how to be comfortable wearing heels (stilettos or otherwise), I would sign up for it.

^^ I subscribe to Marie Claire so I've read that. I was teary eyed about the sex slave article in Cambodia. Hilary Swank looks fabulous. The 10 Evening Pieces, I also love.

Sorry out of topic. :)

Hi Running_Kat :) , it's perfectly ok , no need to say sorry. Thanks for dropping by. I may not be the TS and I hope the TS, doesn't mind if I frequent their thread alot so, I'm sort of an "unofficial" welcoming committee, myself and Pantone (right, girl? ) :D

Was this at the latest issue of Marie Claire? I've heard about those sex slaves from my Cambodian friend :(.

What are the 10 evening pieces they mentioned ? Will I find it online, I wonder...

Thanks again for dropping by, anytime :)

^^ Thanks. :)

Yes, it is the November Issue. I have also heard about human trafficking in Cambodia but reading a woman who went through hell puts a human face and is heart wrenching. Imagine you're 7 years old, being punished by your pimp by inserting crushed chillies inside your vagina, that bad!.

I dont know if you can find the pics of the outfits online. But my faves were: 1.) a grunge looking shorts, bejeweled black cardigan, a really cute strappy black stiletto and layered jeweled bangles. 2.) sequined tulip skirt, a simple tank top, strappy high heels, bangles and a clutch. They all look fun, exudes confidence and really eye catching. :)

 hi running_kat :)

off topic narin kami ni Tri sa thread na to. i wonder if TS solved her problem na.

i have this new office mate. same body type kami. same long black hair. people often mistakenly call her by my name or vice versa.

her only edge is she's quite a fashionista kahit plus size. i am secretly anticipating her outfit for the day. :glee: i feel challenged if i can wear those stuff with confidence like she does. but as i've said, i got the boyfriend/masculine porma. and if i dress like her, mawawalan ako ng identity lalo.

pero naisip ko, mas okay nang masanay silang mejo masculine ang porma ko then i'll surprise them with bongga outfits pag special occasions.

hello P:wave: hello running_kat

running_kat - You got me curious about this Marie Claire issue, I might check it out soon Thanks for posting the pieces here. What's a tulip skirt?

...ohhh..I love bangles too :)

P - awww...how cute. I'm so happy to hear about your new office mate and I think it's so cute how you anticipate her outfits. :)

girl, if I may say this, don't be scared to try the non-boyfriend look :) , kelan paba mangyayari yang special occassion na yan, diba? Keep us posted

...ooh, can I share? I got the pair of boots I ordered - do you know how hard it is to find a wide calf, wide width boots? :D :bounce:
It's the very casual kind..almost flat and scrunched up. I plan on wearing it with dresses/ skirt outfits with a short jacket/depends. I thought it looked so comfortable too, which is why I like it. I've tried them on and they fit and they are so comfortable. I plan on buying maybe two more pairs in different colors (not at once, I'll save up muna hehehe)

huwow boots! that i haven't tried on wearing. just tried fitting one in malls. is it okay to wear boots with short shorts? i'm conscious that if i wear boots, ma-aaccentuate yung legs ko kasi maliit e (though i;ve got long thighs). parang ihhug lalo ng boots.

off topic: i just saw an actual converse wedge heels on SM Mall of Asia, and it costs an very hurting P3,400. i wish i could buy one for myself this christmas. feeling ko aaraw-arawin ko na paggamit nun kasi napaka versatile piece.

...i know maraming plus size skinny jeans ang available, i can even have one tailored for me. but, the problem is kung keri ko kaya? nakaka-conscious kasi sa legs, although no problem sa thighs.

thanks for posting photos ladies :D

if I may comment ..

tulip skirt - awesome :) It has rockstar written all over it

grunge short - very cute and preppy too (I don't know, I can see how it can be dressed up and down) , I'm not sure I want to flash my thunder thighs in a pair though, hanggang puruntong lang ako -sa bahay hehehehe

...I love those brown boots you posted - you're right, it's not too Western, it has a flair, I see it as a very versatile piece in all types of outfits, and the color is nice. It says " The more you break me in baby, the better."

P - oh, the wedge is not too high, it's really cute. Just rock the outfit girl :). P3200 is steep though, I agree

Karl Lagerfeld is not only known for his desings, he is also known for his infamous anti-fatty statements :D. I think the man is a genius and I am a fan of his creativty, albeit his opinions on fatties :D

I saw a documentary which included ("Haute Couture") him during his creativity process , I find it so fascinating the he wears this red pair of leather gloves when he's in the zone, and with a swift hand stroke, out came a beautiful piece of wearable art for Chanel. This video is also very intresting. It gave a a glimpse of the world of fashion designers and socialites who look down on celebrities who wears haute couture - talk about snooty! But it also made me appreciate the talent, the art and the work that goes behind it.

Still, I think Beth Ditto has so much courage to meet this man.

Was the photoshopped Ralph Lauren model fired for being overweight?
by Joanna Douglas, Shine Staff

photoshopdisasters.blogspot.com
Last week Ralph Lauren came under fire for (what looked to be) an extremely altered photo of a model in one of its ads. Bloggers at the website BoingBoing.net posted the image online, and lawyers for Ralph Lauren attempted to sue them for copyright infringement. Unfortunately for Ralph Lauren, this only furthered public interest and outrage over the dangerously thin looking model and, eventually, the clothing company released this apology:

"For over 42 years we have built a brand based on quality and integrity. After further investigation, we have learned that we are responsible for the poor imaging and retouching that resulted in a very distorted image of a woman's body. We have addressed the problem and going forward will take every precaution to ensure that the caliber of our artwork represents our brand appropriately."

Unfortunately,"addressing the problem" may have included firing the model, 23-year-old Filippa Hamilton. She is 5'10" and weighs 120 pounds--clearly more full-bodied than the photoshopped girl we see in the advertisement. Though Hamilton has modeled for Ralph Lauren since she was 15, the company let her go "as a result of her inability to meet the obligations under her contract with us." But the story gets worse: Hamilton says she was let go because she'd become too fat to model for them. "They fired me because they said I was overweight and I couldn't fit in their clothes anymore," she explained. "I was shocked to see that super skinny girl with my face...It's very sad, I think, that Ralph Lauren could do something like that."

Filippa Hamilton in a past Ralph Lauren ad
Most of us know that a tall, young woman who weighs 120 pounds is not overweight. But Hamilton claims Ralph Lauren was dissatisfied with her body, and therefore fired her six months ago. However, the company continued to use her image, whittling down her arms, waist, thighs, and possibly several other body parts in the above ad. If they were so unhappy with how she looked, why not get another model for the campaign? Why use the photos and alter and distort them?

Today, Ralph Lauren himself is distancing himself from the ad, claiming, "The image in question was mistakenly released and used in a department store in Japan and was not the approved image which ran in the U.S." So we're confused. They say the photoshopping was an error, that Hamilton is "beautiful and healthy," yet they allegedly fired her for her size? With all these apologies and statements it sounds like the brand still has yet to accept responsibility for their actions.
When I searched for more images of Filippa Hamilton, I instantly remembered her—she was the face of Ralph Lauren's fragrance, Romance, has been featured on the cover of international editions of Vogue and Elle, and has appeared in many ads. She's a gorgeous woman. "I think they [Ralph Lauren] owe American women an apology, a big apology," says Hamilton. "I'm very proud of what I look like, and I think a role model should look healthy."

The truth is, models get fired or overlooked all the time for being what the industry considers overweight, we just rarely see or hear about it. Eating disorders are not only common among models, but they're also common among the women and young girls who emulate them. We're happy to see that Hamilton has come forward, and wish more models and celebrities would do the same. It's awesome and empowering when stars admit they've been photoshopped for an ad or movie poster and say how dissatisfied they are about it. With foreign countries banning underweight models from their fashion weeks, and the increasing presence of "plus size" models in women's magazines, we wish the unhealthy representation and falsified depiction of models—and women—would come to an end entirely. Do you think the day will ever come? Sources: [NYDN] [Extra] [Hulu]

Big girls in pop culture. Growing up in the Philippines, I've observed that fatties in our media may it be tv or film, has comical , slap stick characters not meant to be taken seriously. Humor is good, but it doesn't have to degrading and it really doesn't help because it just perpetuate stereotypes.

I want to celebrate shows who has strong fatty characters and are not portrayed as stumbling and bumbling fools.

and has anyone heard of Drop Dead Diva? It's basically about skinny girl who used to be a model died and woke up in a body of a size 16 woman (I know, I know) who happens to be a smart and competent attorney. What's interesting is because the skinny dead girl's charm and mind survived her death , but the intelligence and practicality of the size 16 attorney has been retained as well. This role is being played by Brooke D'Orsay. I like how the show talks about things that big girls have to go through that has not been that mainstream...I just can't stand her "best friend" Stacy though and they need to boost her outfit. But other than that, the story lines are pretty good and I hope her character would help shift certain perceptions.

hi Tri :)

i am really diggin' that white swim wear Marilyn and Crystal wore in those photos! but maybe on the subtle side, maybe i can opt for a brown or black for the mean time, i still have to trim on my midsection before i can wear that.

i don't know bakit ba swim wear ang mga tinitignan ko sa malls samantalang pa-december lang naman. :bungi: sobrang crush ko 'tong pang-cover-up ni Fluvia, im guessing medjo madali lang yan gawin kasi flow-y yung style and medyo napipicture ko na kung paano tatahiin. pero i might as well have it tailored to fit me, or magpapaturo ako paano tahiin.

off-topic: about hair naman.
Tri, do you have big wavy hair too? ako kasi, long black straight hair. napansin ko, our lovely models have big wavy hair or just wavy hair at the least. just this year (May 1 '09) i had my hair permed, yung beach-y wave lang naman. but i missed being straight kaya yun, last September pina-straight ko na ulit. but looking out dear Crystal (i really love her), nagsisisi ako nagpa-straight ako!! :bawl:

nabasa ko rin sa net that it's actually pretty sa plus size girls like us ang slightly wavy/beach wave. nung nagpa-straight ako, yung mga kaofficemates and friends ko pa ang nanghinayang. aww..

di bale, rest ko muna from treatments ang buhok ko until december, tapos i'll have it waved back sa new year, tama! *okay*

when i had wavy hair, i just use my hand comb and style my hair, which saves me less time and at the same time i like the effect na careless and worry-free and yung magulo pero maayos. just like Crystal. :)

hi Tri  seems like we have this thread for our own na, i hope you plus size pretty girls here in pex, wag na kayo mahiya jumoin dito.

as i've posted above, i'd go and have my hair permed again sa new year, para new year-new hairstyle. classic naman ang wavy, hindi naluluma. same here Tri, my hair is naturally dead-straight. the stylist who did my perm was even kiddingly scolding me: "ang daming magpapakamatay magkaroon lang buhok na kasing diretso at kasing-itim ng sa'yo, tapos ikaw magpapa-perm?!"

actually hindi naman talaga ko nagsawa sa wavy, si mama kasi sabi nya ang gulo gulo daw. naniwala naman ako. eh ganun nga yung gusto ko e, yung magulo na maayos. based from experience, kapag straight hair, there's always the conscious effort to keep it always neat and yung laging kailangang ayusin. when i had wavy hair, i swear for the longest time i was just using my hand to comb through. and kapag wavy, okay lang kahit magulo ng kaunti.
Fluvia will be my inspiration for that:

hi everyone

I'm sure alot of misconception and resistance has been brought out about fat girls in fashion (or fatties in general) - alot may see it as a encouragement to live an unhealthy lifestyle - completely missing the point which is to widen the very narrow and limited idea of what beautiful is. We're talking about at least 300 years or so "tradition", so I guess resistance to any deviation is bound to happen.

There are fatties who enjoy an active lifestyle just like the next "normal-sized" person (myself included, I happen to enjoy hiking, dancing and my latest craze: a dance work out called Zumba, but I don't torture myself with the goal of weightloss, if it happens then ok, if not ,then I'm not going to cry about it).

Why can't we all just co-exist, right? And not measure each other up by size and instead, give more substance on how kindly we treat ourselves and one another. I myself have accepted that it's human nature to judge, so I've accepted I will be judged (and heck, I bring my judgemental self every now and then, so I'm flawed like everyone else). I've now dismissed to live by what society think I ought to be or how to look. What they think of me has nothing to do with me, that's their opinion not mine. That's the issue they have to live with and fortunately, it has nothing to do with me- that's their bone to pick you know :D. That's my rant for the day hehehe.

Newcomer Gabourey (Gabby) Sidebe creates a buzz in Hollywood

Ms. Sidebe is the star of the movie Precious, based on a book called "Push" by Sapphire. Everyone is raving about the talent of this newcomer. I hope to see more of her.

from the blog: http://blog.musingsofafatshionista.com/post/233006566/143-gabby-sidebe-from-precious

This is her response to people who thinks the character Precious and her are the same person:

“They try to paint the picture that I was this downtrodden, ugly girl who was unpopular in school and in life, and then I got this role and now I’m awesome,” says the actress. “But the truth is that I’ve been awesome, and then I got this role.”

^boyfriend tops! love em :bounce: looks almost the same as mine, though mine's not pop sleeves.

hands down go Gabby Sibido for the courage and the a-t-t-i-t-u-d-e!

what i'm crazy for these days are boots (again) hehehe!
i only have one, a black leather ankle boots, 2.5 inches chunky heels.
it was a savior.
yesterday, i had 3 outfit changes, don't know what to wear, so i ended up wearing a black polo shirt. just that--a black polo shirt and straight cut jeans
akala ko bad trip nako buong araw dahil hindi ko feel yung suot ko.
but the black boots saved my day! :bounce: kahit simple black polo lang suot ko, nagka-ooomph nung naka-boots nako. :bashful:

i passed by the tiangge at the ground floor of our building here in makati, and i saw this darling and fell in love with it in an instant!!
well that's the closest thing i can show you guys. but the idea is, it's actually a wedge sneakers na open toe. it's available in beige, black, and red canvass material.
http://www.polyvore.com/cgi/img-thing?.out=jpg&size=l&tid=1609264
but unfortunately, i left my wallet on purpose so as not to buy on impulse. and worse, the biggest size is 8. while i'm a 9.
kinulit ko talaga yung saleslady na maghanap ng size 9!! babalikan ko sila ng monday.. hmP!

i promise to post the actual pic here pag nabili ko na yun.
can't wait!! :bungi:

I soooo wanted to share this interview of Crystal Renn for TIME Magazine. (dated October 26, 2009)

Six years ago, Crystal Renn was an unknown size-0 model who moved to New York City from Clinton, Miss., to make it big. She struggled with her weight for years, however, and finally made the bold decision to switch to plus-size modeling. Now a healthy 165 lb., she is the highest-paid plus-size model in the world, having graced the covers of American Vogue and Harper's Bazaar and appeared in Dolce & Gabbana ads. The 23-year-old talks with TIME about her new book, Hungry, her size-0 modeling days and walking the runway for Jean Paul Gaultier.

How did you get into modeling?
When I was 14 years old, my mother put me in an etiquette beauty school. One day a scout came up to me and said, "Oh, my gosh, you're going to be the next supermodel." I didn't even know what that meant. He pulled out a picture of Gisele and said, "This is who you can be." But he said I had to lose nine inches off my hips. That was the beginning.

You got down to 95 lb. on your 5 ft. 9 in. frame. What was your typical day like when you were a size-0 model?
Before I began modeling, I prepared for two years, and in that time I developed an eating disorder. My day would involve waking up and steaming vegetables. Then I would go to 10 castings, followed by a trip to the gym for three to four hours and sometimes even up to eight hours. I would eat lettuce and vegetables all day long, but I would think about food all the time.

When you look at a picture of yourself at that weight, what do you see?
Another person. It was very clear that I hated my life. During that time, I felt extremely detached from my body. I didn't feel like me or feel anything at all. The only way to survive was through detachment. I would wake up sometimes feeling like I had the flu times 10, and I knew I would have to go to the gym for eight hours.

What was it like to start eating again?
When I had the eating disorder, I never lost my love for food. I just told myself that if I wanted to be a model, I would have to stop [doing] one of my favorite things. I remember having my epiphany moment and making the decision to eat again. It was pretty amazing. My first meal was what many would regard as very healthy: a salad with salmon, walnuts and olive oil. At the time, I feared that I would gain 100 lb. with one bite. It didn't happen, and I felt superrelieved. I knew I was on the right path.

Do you still worry about your weight?
When it comes to food, I've been through such a deep, dark place with my body that I associate dieting and hating my body with extreme unhealth. I was losing my hair, I had no energy, and I was extremely depressed. I don't really watch my weight at all now. I do make sure that I eat as healthy as I can for energy purposes, but I no longer restrict my calorie intake to feel better about myself.

It took a lot of courage to write about this. How did the fashion industry react to your book?
Surprisingly, I've found the industry to be extremely supportive. When I first moved over to plus-size modeling and I had this new body, I worked with an editor who knew me when I had the eating disorder. She said, "What happened to you? You look so much better now!" At that moment, I made a decision to tell the truth. I felt relief in telling my [story]. I think people in the industry have become more receptive to looking at different body types because of my book and my [decision to] speak out.

What was it like to walk out on the runway and close the Paris show for Jean Paul Gaultier in 2005?
Walking for Jean Paul Gaultier was magical. I had no idea I was ending the show in the first place until I was about to walk out on the runway. This had been a dream of mine for so long, so it was definitely a moment. I never felt so accepted in my life, and I now know that change is possible after all in this industry.

What do you hope other women will gain from this book?

Women have come so far in the past 100 years. But what holds them back is lack of confidence and self-hatred. Those two things can affect every part of your life. I was at the lowest level you can be. It was only when I accepted myself that I managed to achieve [my goals] in life and work. Through this book, I want women to know that people in the [fashion] industry can relate to them too. Women struggle everywhere with their weight and their bodies, and no one talks about it. I wanted to speak for the unspoken.

hi Tri, it's monday na, and later i'll go back to that store, kukulitin ko until they produce a size 9. what color do you advice i get? all is in canvass material, but in colors beige black and red. i am choosing between beige/cream and black so madaling i-match sa kahit anong top.

naku Tri, same here, 95% of the time sneakers ako. just last night--last minute retail therapy, i bought a new pair of marikina-made sneakers na converse look-alike. bale i have 3 sneakers na ina-alternate ko. i have a pair of black heel pumps kaso i use it for formal occasions lang.
this 2.5in heel leather boots are just hand-me-down from my ka-officemate. it was too big for her because she's a size 6, how on earth would she use a size 9 boots. haha. so 'pinamana' nalang nya sa'kin, kaysa naman maluma lang sa box. parang nagiging training ko narin itong boots so when i get my hands--err feet--on that sneaker wedge, hindi na ko maninibago masyado. remember that Converse wedge i posted here before? hmmm i think it's still too costly for me. it's not that i can't afford it, but i think i don't deserve to wear a P3k pair just yet.

as of this time i prefer boots and those wedge sneakers, kasi even when there's the height/heel, i'm not scared to walk in it kasi i feel a sense of security and balance dahil may naka-yakap sa paa ko na enclosure (i hope you get my point hehe). unlike stilettos na straps lang, naku im far far far from wearing stilettos (and besides i have weak knees).

Tri, i love those shoes! what do you actually call that style? meron kaya nyan dito? what i know is may factory dito sa marikina ang hushpuppies eh. and that would be cute to pair with a blue plaid boyfriend polo i bought din kagabi. hehehe. retail therapy rocks!
you should try to train your feet with a little heels like i do now. iisa nga lang itong boots na to e. and it;s my first time to wear 2.5 inches na heels. kung mas okay sa'yo, pwede ka mag-wear ng heels gradually, start from 1in, then 1.5, then 2in, then 2.5in. pero ako kuntento na sa feet-hugging type (boots, sneaker wedge etc) na shoes and chunky heels. hindi ko talaga kakayanin mag stilettos, i don't wanna risk my knee just for to wear stilettos. i feel sexy even in a converse flats anyway, hehehehe..

post my outfits here? hmm lemme think about that, hehe. it's a nice idea, pero i admit i am not fashionista enough pa eh. i don't want bashers to come in this thread, sabagay tyo-tayo lang naman talaga ang nandidito, hehe. (i wonder there enah and nightshade are).
i'll work on that Tri, maybe next year? hehe.. and when i start, i hope you do too. that would be nice since you can share your outfits na bagay sa cold weather na country. :bungi:

whew what a long post. mondays to fridays lang po kasi ako nakakapag-pex.

i think i saw Gabby Sibido on Unang Hirit this morning, but i didn't get to hear what she said kasi maingay sa bus (on my way to work).i'll try to look it up here. magkano kaya yung book ni Crystal Renn? naku wag naman sana gnun ka-mahal. i am collating pictures of Crystal and other plus size models, ipprint ko then ippost sa room ko, para dagdag inspiration sa pagddiet. hehe.

*natuwa naman ako nung may dumating na bago, sina nightshade and Enah. kaso asan na kaya sila?

btw, what's a swagger? :)

Hi everyone

Tri, i already bought the shoe i was talking about since friday. but i didnt get the open toe-sneaker-wedge. i asked a second opinion--from my new officemate na i was talking about (yung plus size din). she was right, the open toe-sneaker-wedge has so many stuff going on. sneaker type na, wedge na, open toe pa.
so i got the one na platform heels nalang. i don't know what to call it eh, hehe. i'll post the pic as soon as i can. (i don't have a camera phone kasi hehe)

with all these plus size model frenzy here, i just want to post a food poster i found while browsing the net.

Hi P  can't wait to see the shoe you bought :) What color?

...thanks for the tips :D, I will certainly do that :D and about the shoes, I really don't know what style it is either

Mr. Lagerfeld, I really love your works and there are people who will agree with you. :D It used to be that way for me, but I no longer give myself a hard time about it :D

hmm...about swagger, I can only do my interpretation of Beth Ditto's statement based on the context

" You don't got no swagger. Just wear flats."

my interpretation " ...wala kang poise , hinid mo carry. Mag flats ka nalang."

swagger, the text book definition is :

v. swag·gered, swag·ger·ing, swag·gers
v.intr.
1. To walk or conduct oneself with an insolent or arrogant air; strut.
2. To brag; boast.

from: http://www.thefreedictionary.com/swagger

When I was in the Musee d'Orsay last year, I was so excited because of the Monet and the Van Gogh collectio more than Renoir's. But when I stepped into his collection though, my interest was picqued. I see youthful faces full of merriment and glee, beautiful shades , angles and lights. The beautiful clothes and accessories his subject has on as well as the period fashion of the women. But was struck me the most was he celebrates beauty in all shapes and forms - particularly plus sized women.

To Renoir and to beauty *cheers*
