I AM ASKING COMMENTS ESPECIALLY FROM MY FELLOW ATENEANS ON HOW APPLES JALANDONI, OUR COUNCIL PRESIDENT PERFORMED IN THE SHOW KONTRAPELO-

apples ikaw ba 'to?
Honestly, I was disappointed on how she answered the questions in kontrapelo. It was like she couldn't really express what she wanted to say.

She sucks! Next time pick a debater! or at least someone who is adept at public speaking!
Joseph Estrada was indeed an Atenean. Ateneo even breeds people like him who in turn become presidents.
Thank God I graduated already! Who knows what other damage she will do.

si apples, gullible. ok lang kahit biased sina korina at yung isa pa. insecure lang sila sa ateneo. no need to advertise our school. basta, ateneo is ateneo.

I wasn't able to watch her on TV, but I heard that the Ateneo representatives' answers were pretty frustrating and disappointing. Sayang, I thought Apples was an effective speaker. I'm sure she's a very enthusiastic leader, though. :) Good luck on her term... suportahan nalang ninyo sya. :)

I know apples very well. She even asked me to help her in the campaign.
Not that this means i'm being biased in her favor but she is a person who knows what to do and what to say at the right time and the right place.
However, I believe that the hosts of that program enticed everyone to hack on each other and that's not what Apples wants on TV.
She never wanted to bite at others people ego just because their not on the same camp. Defensive lang talaga siya and to take an offensive against other universities would only pull her down to their level.
Shame on the people who orchestrated this not-even-broadcast-worthy show for making them rant at each other. What's the big fuss?
The issue aside there was that channel merely wanted to find a competition against Mare Pare from another station and it didn't even last long enough to get a second hirit! Do they really think Isyu 101 can make another bite this time?

I knew Apples way back when we both served in Sanggu some years ago and I've always noticed that she never ever seems to say anything during our meetings. Although I credit that as being just her as the silent type who could get a job done, a Sanggu President could do more then just win an election. They must know how to articulate their issues and positions to the public. I seriously doubt that she won just because she was a pretty face. She must have had some good rep with the students to be able to convince them to get her to win.
Being a Sanggu President is no joke. The last four to five Presidents were all dedicated and articulate in expressing their stands on issues. I hope that for the rest of the year, Apples proves her detractors wrong. One tv appearance does not equate the rest of your political career.

Yeah, yeah. Apples did not fare well in that Kontrapelo show of ABS-CBN. It's been a month now and I don't see any reason why you have to castigate her for her dull performance there. I'm sure that if Apples ever reads your posts, especially from her fellow Ateneans, it will surely hurt her and might affect her performance as SC President of Ateneo. I mean, give her a chance. I've seen her in tv and I can say that she looks like a nice person, always flashing that friendly smile to everyone. After all, you Ateneans voted for her, and the more that you should support your own school president.

I never watched that episode but according to some people that episode was not live and so some statements of Apples and the Ateneo people were edited. Biased lang si Korina! That broadcaster cum liar is just insecure about how good Ateneans could be. Besides, I personally know Apples and I believe that she is an effective leader and definitely has a better integrity than the habitual liar Korina.

Hey guys, I watched the show and we should not outrightly say that Korina and Cito Beltran were bias in handling the debate. I guess it was just a typical campus debate, all too candid, I may say.
The problem is the Council Head of Ateneo might have been obviously nervous when asked to say a one-liner with what she thinks Ateneo is known for.
And for the benefit of those judgmental people, who in the first place were not able to watch the show, here is what Apples said:
"I guess what Ateneo offers is its whole wholistic education."
Can you guys imagine that she repeatedly uttered these words twice.
It maybe just the ego of the Ateneans who may have been hurt, but let's face it, it's Apples who said these words, not Korina Sanchez nor Cito Beltran.
If they think the show was not going to be fair in the first place, they should have not gone with the show anyway.
Instead of accusing the show of biasedness, maybe the next time a university joins such debates, they should pick up more worthy speakers who will not fail their schools in front of national television.

I've been told by people who watched the show on TV that the Ateneans who represented Ateneo gave disappointing answers.
However, this is not the case with those who went to the studio to witness this event. I've been told that there were some, if not many, comments that were not included in the show, among them comments that actually defend their claims and answer/rebuke negative comments made by the other side.
Now I know that by knowing this bias comes into play, with those who watched the show live attempting to defend the representatives. However, we can not exclude these possibilities and at least consider them.
Also, another issue is the choice of speakers/representatives for the school. I personally do not know how or why so-and-so was chosen to represent his/her school. What I was surprised at is that those who represented UST were not the council heads (like Ateneo) but some who come from their debating team. Obviously, this tilts the balance a bit.
Another thing, we can not really say that the hosts (Korina Sanches and Cito Beltran) were "liars" as some have said. And if I recall well, wasn't Cito Beltran the one who made the "assaults"? I recall Korina Sanchez's being reserved with her words, while Beltran would almost undoubedtly praise UP somehow, someway while bringing another side down.
In fairness to everyone, it was obvious Apple's attempted to defend "our" side, and she did it pretty well, I guess. I do know there were no negative comments made from Ateneo. All the "attacks" were made from the other side, and only they (those who watched the show) would really know how they countered it.
Tough_guy, I don't really see how "I guess what Ateneo offers is its whole wholistic education." is somehow ... unsatisfactory. It is the truth. If it was the matter of her saying it was twice, then it could be that she was very careful in what to say. Obviously, whatever you say there speaks of the university. Say anything "bad" and you might have to answer to the heads. If it was the quality of the statement being compared to that of UST's "we make the best", there're some people who I know (who I wish were on PEx) would like to question that.
Just my P0.02.

I know Apples and she's really nice and she's also a good speaker. It's just that all of us falter sometimes and Apples is not an exemption.

Let's give Apples a break. Like what archerguy said, it has been quite some time now since the debate. The schoolyear has just started, and she has a lot of time to make up for her "poor performance" in the show. Let's just wish her the best.
As for Angst, I am disappointed that an Atenean like you would brand a person like Ms. Korina Sanchez a liar without even citing evidence. I mean do you really, really know her enough to call her a habitual liar? It seems that you have not yet taken Philo 101. Remember, you're already questioning a person's integrity here; and you know how important integrity is to a journalist.

holistic is spelled w/o a W, FYI :lol
I know apples personally...
i've worked with her...
helped her all the way with campaigning...
and i was there sa kontrapelo.
ateneans also blamed some of us, not only Apples. tulungan kami noon sa pag answer, it's just that she was nervous then and the hosts were really biased. however, i was disappointed dahil talagang hindi siya prepared noon. most of us tried to give her stuff to say (kasi we were given time naman to think about answers to the succeeding questions) but she failed to answer properly kasi most of it talagang hindi nya alam.
tsk tsk!
I admit, from what i observed so far, i think she won't compare to the past presidents of the sanggunian and i'm kinda disapponted. but she's not the only one who's running the council. there are a lot of really promising people working there. i think whatever apples lacks, they'd be there to compensate for it.

This is not the first time Ateneo went on a televised "mock-debate". Tapatan (with pareng Jay) was also aired with most of the times mga Ateneans, UP, UST and guest. On other times, we send debaters. Sometimes LM students and one time dormers. I myself went to the show several times. It doesn't matter which species of Atenean you send; what is more important is what we maintain who we are - that we are not bullies and we do not bow down to such petty quarrels whether which is which is better is best.
Yes, Apples may have not delivered a remarkable arguement nor did Ateneo stood victoriously after that much sought after (squawk!) "debate of the best universities", but we Ateneans can assure you that as person for others, our holistic upbringing and our Ignatian spirituality was never smeared nor disfigured because our president wasn't that good a debater as everybody expected.

Blinkscreen, your identity is shaped by your actions. And so Korina who has been spreading lies for some time can be branded a liar because of her actions. Don't worry, I know who you are. I'll not take this personally.

The word wholistic is a variant of holistic. Same meaning, different spelling. ;)
