I remembered back in the Phils. when I was in grade school and high school we used to have these outreach programs wherein we visit the orphanages and doing volunteer work every Saturday. Also when I was freshman in college, we even went to the bondocs and lived with the locals for a weekend to experience how it's like to live in such condition. For me, it was really a humbling experience - no running water, sleeping on the floor... but one thing that really stick out in my mind that even though how poor those people were, they welcomed us and offered us whatever little they have. Huh, I surely miss doing volunteer work now.

I am wondering do schools still have these kind of programs. If so, do you get involve? How did you find the experience?

Volunteer Work is definitely a worthwhile and fun extracurricular activity in school...
At the end of every activity, you feel you have achieved a big accomplishment in your life...
In De La Salle University, we have Center Of Social Concerns and Actions (COSCA) where they recruit volunteers from different colleges and basically teach them about whats happening around us, making them aware of our environment, our people from urban places, and to interact with special kids and children who were left alone by their parents....
