Choose the better course and the better school.

MECO and the Ateneo of course.

Ateneo, the "Harvard, MIT and Oxbridge of the Philippines."

Your bright future begins here. Where the bright blue eagles fly. :spinstar:

AB MEco at the Ateneo is a great choice. So is BS Econ or even BS Business Econ at UP.

I'm a MEco grad batch '98 and I must say if the course hasn't changed since 1998, it's a half-baked program. Take either Eco or Management.

With MEco, you get the crappiest teachers of both departments. Trust me. I took this course. I had Aida Reyes for Finance, for crying out loud, where I learned more from the book than I did the teacher!

With MEco, you take Eco without Econometrics. You take Management with only 3 units of Accounting. For your Eco subjects, instead of learning about banking (which is the logical tie-in with your business subjects), you are saddled with about 6 units of development economics and social theories. Slapdash course planning that results in a half-baked program.

And worst of all, you don't get ANY free electives (I don't know if that's changed with the lighter core curriculum though).

Between the two courses, I think that Business Econ is the more rigorous and prestigious program.

If I were in your position, I'd still go to Ateneo though. I'd just shift upon arrival because that course sucks!

Excellent article here courtesy of a REAL atenean pexer, Mikoid. I knew that somehow, somewhere, someday, the truth will come out.

I'm also an atenean who finds our Economics nothing but a big crap.

Hello? Okay ka lang ba? may lagnat ka ba or something? ang pangit kaya ng economics sa ateneo kung saan graduating na ako halos wala pa akong natutunan about economics. feeling ko sayang lang ang tuition ko.

I'm in UP because I did not make it to Ateneo. UP is fine but I really think Ateneo is better. If I were you, I'll go to Ateneo and give MECO a try. If you wish to shift, you can always do so later on. As far as school and environment, Ateneo is better.

Hi grun. You have 5 subjects for electives under the BE programme which you can consume with Econ subjects including Econometrics. Don't you think those 15 units are not enough? I'm just curious.

^^

i think it's enough already for the BS BE program. the good thing about having five electives is that you have a choice of choosing your own economics "track". you can easily have special topics (econ 198) that are not usually offered.

however, i think the curriculum has been revised already. those 03- freshies and shiftees/transferees in 2003 are required to take econ 121, 141, 151.

i dare everyone here to look and compare their economics department's subject offerings to that of UPSE:

I'm not from Ateneo or UP. While UP's BSBE course seems more technical, I prefer the overall balance in Ateneo's MECO curriculum. It just has the right mix of the liberal arts core, management and economics.

ang daming pretenders sa thread na 'to... :glee:

seriously, UP's BS Eco program is way better than admu's...my friend in admu told me she isnt satisfied with what they're teaching there. i must say though, her conversational english skills have vastly improved.

tatanung lang bakit palaging sinasabi ng mga taga ATENEO ang mga KATAGANG ITO "Ateneo, the "Harvard, MIT and Oxbridge of the Philippines." ??

*okay*
