^ ^ ^Whatttttttt! The Ateneo wins another academic competition again?
Be careful with your announcements. You're inviting more bashing from some very insecure individuals here in PEx. We already know the Ateneo usually wins most of these academic competitions because Ateneans are the best and brightest. But let us not publicize our triumphs too much. It makes the insecure people more jealous of our achievements and incites more bashing.
Anyway, CONGRATS TO ATENEO for dominating again! No wonder the Ateneo is widely acknowledged as the "Harvard of the Philippines."
Keep up the good work! *okay*

Congrats to Ateneo for winning again the ORSP competition. Ateneo usually wins this contest year-in, year-out. La Salle is always lingering on the 2nd or 3rd positions during my time and I would like to congratulate my alma mater as well for placing 2nd.

as an IE student from UP Dil, I rili believe Ateneo ME has the best OR program.... Sa amin we have this ading/in considerate/ di marunong magturo/ talking book na teacher ng OR kaya hindi maganda ang OR program namin... But kapag IE Quiz show in general... UP ang da best!
anyweis, congrats to the ATENEO! and syempre sa LA SALLE and UP na rin!
peace out!

To those who are interested, re: what is Operations Research (OR), I got this info from the website of MIT:
Operations research has a long tradition at MIT . In fact, MIT is widely acknowledged as an academic birthplace of operations research in the United States. In 1953, Philip M. Morse, a noted physicist, founded the Center and served as its first director; a year earlier he founded the Operations Research Society of America ( ORSA ) and served as the Society's first president.
Operations research (OR) is the professional discipline that deals with the application of scientific methods to decision making. OR draws upon ideas from engineering, management, mathematics and psychology to contribute to a wide variety of application domains; the field is closely associated with several other fields in the "decision sciences" -- applied mathematics, computer science, economics, statistics, industrial engineering, financial engineering and systems engineering.
Operations research is distinguished by its broad applicability and by the wide variety of career opportunities and work styles it embraces. OR specialists may be theoreticians or practitioners; they may work in academia, in industry or in public service, teaching, conducting research, or consulting by developing and applying OR methods.

Also for a more balanced perspective, anyone interested in OR should read up on the life and times of Robert S McNamara (former HBS professor, president of the Ford Motor Company, US Secretary of Defense, and president of the World Bank), who is probably OR's most famous believer and practitioner. McNamara used OR techniques to solve a lot of problems, including production inefficiency and weapons procurement, but realized those techniques couldn't do everything, such as win a war or eliminate poverty.

Wait. Wasn't some form of OR (since it wasn't really called OR at the time) responsible for helping the Allies win WWII?
At least, that's what Hillier and Lieberman say in their book.

The founder of the Management Engineering program in the Ateneo was Fr. William Campbell, an MIT graduate. He patterned the ME program after MIT's management science program. Fr. Campbell passed away two months ago in Italy. (May he rest in peace.)
The first program director of the Mgt. Eng. program was Dr. William Torres, a PhD graduate of computer science from MIT, whose doctoral thesis focused on innovative networking models applied to electrical/electronics engineering. Dr. Torres is recognized as the "Father of the Internet" in the Philippines.
Now we all know why the Ateneo is called the "Harvard and MIT of the Philippines."

BS Statistics majors ng UP ang mga representatives and they haven’t underwent a training before the competition kasi finals nila the week after. Ang representatives ng UP ay nanggaling sa isang student organization ng School of Statistics at katuwaan lang ang pagsali.
At kung napansi nyo, recycled ang contestants ng de Ateneo. These same set of students will also represent their school - de Ateneo - in other pacontest. Ginagawa nilang negosyo ang pagsali sa mga pacontest. They believe their school will be ranked number one in the Philippines based on the number of wins they get in mga pacontest.

ORSP OR competitions: Let's review the facts and the track record.
Ateneo: 10 first place finishes
UP: 5 first place finishes
DLSU: 1 first place finishes
2005 OR competition:
#1 Ateneo
#2 DLSU
#3 UP
Whine as much as you want. However, no one can dispute the facts. Ateneo is no. 1.

only 2 of the 5 contestants are IE majors and both are 4th year students who were more busy preparing for their finals than the pacontest. the other 3 are from the school of statistics who were also more busy preparaing for their finals exams than the said pacontest.
Let me be frank with you. results of this contest won't change the fact that UP is way superior to ateneo. period.

finals? how sure are you na nasa finals na sila? I talked to one of the people from the UP team and they were surprised to know that we were on our finals week already (the juniors). Sabi nga nila: "Kami nga hindi pa namin iniisip ang finals eh".
nandun ka ba sa contest?
I don't deny that UP students are good. Even my batchmate (who was number 1 during my high school time) went to UP. Pero claiming that UP is way superior to ateneo? I doubt it. May kanya kanyang galing lang yan.

Ang saya-saya talaga when you're #1.
Congrats to the Ateneo for winning again and again and again.
To reiterate. Let's stick to the facts, not hearsay and fabricated excuses of the losers.
Fifteen (15) Annual ORSP OR Competition Track Record:
ATENEO: 9 first place finishes
UP: 5 first place finishes
DLSU: 1 first place finish
2005 ORSP OR Competition:
1st place: ATENEO

3rd place: UP
Parang same order ng ranking according to academic excellence.
Galing talaga ng Ateneo. The best and brightest students.
No wonder, the Ateneo is widely acknowledged as the "Harvard and MIT of the Philippines."
To the losers, just try to be gracious in defeat. After all, you lost to the best school in the Philippines. That should motivate you to study and work harder next time.
Basta, ang saya talaga when you're #1. :spinstar:
