I heard that the passing rates for the CPA (Certified Public Accountant) Board Exams are really low year after year.
Any info?

Do La Salle, UP and UST take the CPA Board Exams at the same time? I heard La Salle is avoiding UP and UST, even UE.

Well it is a FACT that DLSU-Manila Accounting graduates topped the May 1999, the May 1998 and the May 1997 CPA Board Exams.
The DLSU-Manila 1st placer in the May 1999 CPA Board Exam is Anthony Ng while the DLSU-Manila 1st placer in the May 1998 CPA Board Exam is Ms. Janice Cham. DLSU-Manila in May 1998 had an 82 percent passing rate while the national average was 21.83%. Meanwhile in the May 1997 CPA Board Exams, the Topnotcher was also a La Sallian Ma. Trixia Esguerra.
Animo La Salle!

Trivia...
Did you know that in 1940, a La Sallian topped the CPA Board Exams?
Name: Future Senator/Martial Law Freedom Fighter JOSE W. DIOKNO (then a fresh De La Salle Accounting graduate)
Later in 1945, he also topped the BAR Exams without ever studying Law in any Law School.

misterhappy, i've heard that the reason why la sallites do well in cpa board (notching places and stuff) is that they don't take it along with other top accounting schools like UP or UST. but, if you are going to consider the passing rate, la salle could only muster the 65-75% bracket every year.

I'm a proud member of the De La Salle Accounting Batch that Topped the May 1993 CPA Board Exams.
Topnotcher in the May 1993 CPA Board Exam was La Sallian Engracio Ang Jr. while the 2nd placer was another La Sallian Rhea Liz Santillan. So overwhelming was the performance of the De La Salle grads that we copped sisteen(16) out of the top twenty(20)
placers. The national passing rate in 1993 was only 17.12%.
Animo La Salle!
Braveheart: Instead of bashing De La Salle, why don't you PRAISE instead your school-UST for a change? Maybe if you do this, people would take you and your school more seriously. Your school has this bad re****tion of JEERING other schools. CHEERING for their schools is what the other more decent schools do. Its plain common decency.
Can YOU name a particular year where a UST graduate topped the CPA Board Exam? Please give also the exact name and rating.

braveheart: is that so? at least, de la salle's 65-75% is better than ust's 39%. fellow thomasians, gising!
snoc: ust law school's passing average in the last bar exam was 65%, down from the 89% it registered two years ago. tsk tsk tsk

In the May 1990 CPA Board Exams, DLSU-Manila received the Philippine government's Top Achievement Award for garnering the Highest Percentage Passing among all Philippine Universities - 82 percent passing.
The CPA Topnotcher in the May 1990 CPA Board Exams was DLSU-Manila's Winston Chiu. The 2nd, 3rd and 4th Placers were also La Sallians. The La Sallians got 10 of the Top 20 that year.
Also in the May 1992 CPA Board Exams, DLSU-Manila had a 84.26% passing average.
Whats more notable is the fact that La Sallians took 17 out of the Top 20 finishers.
So over the years - since pre-war, De La Salle Accounting grads have painted the CPA Board Exams GREEN against all the other Philippine universities.

My question has not been answered. Do La Salle, UP and UST take the CPA Board Exams at the same time? Yes or No?
Oh by the way, dear snoc, your grammar is really bad. You're from La Salle, right?

I find it fascinating how people can come up with many (don't-know-where-you-got-them) reasons/excuses on why DLSU is better (or 'seemed better'-so you say) in Accounting, UAAP, CompSci, Engineering, and Business....instead of FACING THE FACTS AND STATISTICS!
Thomasians, UP students, Ateneans: don't you find it fascinating too?

ziggyboy:
Its simply because these people are INSECURE when it comes to De La Salle.
Have you ever seen say a UST person give FACTS and STATS about UST's passing average in Board Exams? No because the TRUE and REAL worth of their school would be exposed.
So what do they resort to? BASH De La Salle.
How pathetic. How crude.

grabe parang may feasibility study pa sila about la salle.
ang kapal pa ng mukha ni misterhappy at braveheart. what was his purpose anyway? hehehe...baka bumagsak sa cpa exams....mwaahahahahaha!! o baka takot na mag cpa exams. (hey, what other reasons could i think of? kami naman ang #1 sa accounting diba?)
tsaka kung thomasians kayo, you know that i don't usually bash on other schools...pero i can think of 1001 reasons NOT to go to ust. i don't post them because i can also see the faults of dlsu (alam ko, madami din). i think you should first look at your school before you say something. i think that's basic etiquette, don't they teach you that in school?
yours truly (in st la salle?),

Just the facts ok. UP Diliman has a passing rate of close to 100% in the CPA Board Exams!

ziggyboy,
if you have 1001 reasons why you didn't go to ust, then i have 1002 reasons naman why i didn't go to la salle...mwahahahaha...biro lang....ikaw naman....you're generalizing too much. It's not because a Thomasian said this or that to your school...you will bash entirely the whole Thomasian community....kaya napapag-initan ang isang poster kasi they really really love to generalize....OK...magaling ang La Salle sa Accountancy...I admit that...UST is not really that good in that area....at least they have a good accountancy course, but not as good as yours nga. Remember always to present facts before you bash someones else's school.
Can we ask the PRC to release the Board Exam performances of the top 4 schools in all major courses..para ma prove talaga kung sinong magaling!...ang hirap kasi....LA SALLE for example will present their facts kung saang year naging maganda ang performance nila without mentioning the other years na dehado sila....same as with other schools like UP, UST and Ateneo....

Basta I know the stats for UP. Madali kasi tandaan, since time immemorial it's been close to 100% (almost every year it's 100%)and I am 100% sure that PRC can attest to this.
Just the facts.
PEACE.

HAH! So I am not getting an answer, huh? Sorry to disappoint you, mister ziggyboy, but I am in Fort Lauderdale now working as a financial analyst (if you don't know where Fort Lauderdale is, better brush up on your geography or you may try reading my profile ;)).
I will repeat my question. Do La Salle, UP and UST take the CPA Board Exams at the same time?

Swatch: just a reaction. i'm not generalizing. i only showed him what would happen if i had a personality like those 2 dudes there... ang pangit tignan diba? parang walang pinag-aralan. sorry if i offended anyone else.
MisterHappy: that's even worse! you're working already???!!! grow up.

Alam nyo kung bakit laging 100% ang UP???????
Dahil pag natutunugan nila na di sila papasa after the first weekend winiwithdraw nila para 100% passing rate nila talino 'no! Saka ilan lang ba silang nag tetake? 15-20!

To the high and oh-so-mighty MisterHappy (you're giving happy a bad name)
1. I believe Fort Lauderdale is in Florida. Am I right?
2. La Salle takes the May and October CPA exams. May for regular students, October for irregular students. That's why most of the school's topnotchers place in the May exams.
Satisfied?

He was a really brilliant man. So is his daughter, Maris, who became my thesis adviser in UP. She's one of the best (and smartest) teachers in U.P. Runs in the family, I guess...
