that's not true. there are other more difficult courses. as to whether you made the right decision, hmm....

not true... any course can be really hard if you're not "into" it enough... it all depends on the student...
anyway, congratulations and good luck, xpac :)

well, I had the same dilemma as a hs senior..but i went to UP for IE ... IE and ME are a whole different genre...Management Eng;g in Ateneo is more of a business/mgmt course..and in the some other thread before, the engineering in Mgmt Engineering is not quite engineering..as for IE, It is really an engineering course with a lot of engineering classes along with econ and acctg classes. A number of my cousins are Mgmt Engineering grads from ateneo..they all say that the famous notion that "ME is the hardest course in ateneo" is a misnomer. It really depends in the person though....with how i see it, in my opinion, the hardest courses in ateneo are the physics or chem double major with computer engineering....

do u guys think i made the wrong move? anyway, i haven't enrolled yet. i only reserved my slot in ateneo. but i think i can still reserve my slot in UP. what do u think should i do?

That's an impossible question to answer, X-pac. Both schools are equally excellent in the said courses that you got into. Just go where you feel would fulfill whatever expectations you have as a student. Academics is just part of the game--you should consider other aspects also, like the type of student population, presence or absence of religion, strictness, etc. Good luck!

ME is a hard course, but it's wrong to say that you're 'dead' since you chose it. If you give it your all, if you study well, you will pass, and I'm saying this from experience. We had a batchmate who flunked Math 18 (that's 6 units!). He was able to make it, and not just that, he graduated on time!
Trinity is right in saying that IE and ME are totally different. ME is really business management with more math and analysis. In my opinion, IE is harder 'cause they have more eng subjects, and you can be kicked out until 5th year, while ME has this "SMEG" (sure-ME-grad) sem wherein you won't have ME quotas anymore.
If you want it, then go ahead. Make sure you choose it for the right reasons. 'Cause it WILL be tough, and if you're there for the wrong reasons, you'll end up hating it for the rest of your life. And it's only you who can say you made the right choice, no one else.
If you do choose to go to Ateneo and take up ME, watch out for Operations Research. It sucks. :D

I'm speaking here about the ME prog of the late 70s.
I can't say it was the hardest, but it was certainly the longest, taking 5 years, which is why I didn't take it. I wanted a degree in four years and get out of there ASAP.
It's been shortened now, though.

Well, the hardest year in ME, as in any other course, is freshman year. If anything, what forces people to shift out of ME are low Math grades - but basically the same thing applies with any course that's on the harder Math track. ME does have a lot of Math-intensive courses, so if math happens to be your weakness then I advise working on it, esp. during the "formative" (read: freshman) year.
Finding a good study group among your blockmates can make all the difference - and when the project-intensive sophomore and junior years come up, then make sure you pair off with people who do their fair share of the work.
The SMEG thing CaRaMBa mentioned is in operation until the first semester of junior year - after that, everything gets easier because you don't have to pursue a certain cutoff grade in your major subjects. I dunno when SMEG ends with your batch, though - AdMU changed the curriculum starting with Batch 2002, although I suspect it's not too far off because most of the curriculum changes involved core and not major subjects.
Even if the worst happens and you find yourself being asked to shift out of ME, you won't have too much of a problem going into a Management course - after all, you will have a strong Management background and will probably be ahead of the curriculum of the course you're shifting into (assuming you failed no subjects) - this will allow you to pursue a minor in the future.
Also, job prospects for ME grads are good - work in (ugh) banks is readily available, although a good many pursue careers in consulting and finance. So, all in all, ME is a pretty good course - just don't let all that "hardest course in the Ateneo" mumbo-jumbo go to your head, because it's one of the things we hate about ME students - "ooh, my course is so hard, i bet you have such an easy time compared to me." And when you're a computer engineering double major, believe me, it's as irritating as hell.
hey, i also have the impression that ME could be the hardest course in ADMU. i think so because i had the chance of being under queena lee chua when i was in the 32nd AJSS. she told me it is very(10x) hard. and a math course. i think im not prepared. i also think my scholarship will be in jeopardy if i take it. but it would be a very fulfilling moment if i pass it. i plan to shift to Management Eco. what should i choose?

Personally, I think M.E. is overrated. I echo their advice that one should think twice before enteriing that course.

M.E. is difficult but if you have good study habits, you'll do fine. It's a good course because it exposes you to the different business subjects, more like a mini-MBA. It's very math-oriented so make sure you like Math, even though you're not a Math genius. I loved Math in high school but it was a bit of a struggle in college. Still, don't think it's so hard that you can't handle it. It's a good course, it will help you also get good jobs. Try it out first.
If you do decide to try it out, one survival tip is to get a good study group. It will help you out a lot. And don't be afraid to ask help if you think you need it.
Good luck. You can do it!

ME is not the most difficult course in Ateneo. The most overrated maybe accompanied by the most obnoxious students (we admit that they're good but they don't have to rub it in, I don't see PS-CE,Chem-CE,BS Math, BS CS, courses which have more Math than they do acting superior and all)
X-pac its really up to you, shifting is an option but which course will you shift to?
Try it out first and get a feel of it, you won't be delayed anyway if you decide to shift later.

All this talk about ME in Ateneo and IE in UP! What about IE in LaSalle? Have you ever considered IE in DLSU? Im taking up IE in DLSU. Any comments?

Well, I "hear" that ME is a hard course, but I do know other hard courses as well: PsCE, ChemCE, (any)CE, EcoH, and others. Heck! All courses are hard -- depending on the perspective of each concentration...

totoo sinabi nila X-Pac... ME and IE are two very different courses... ME is more involved with business and IE sa engineering yun...
totoo ME is hard but its not the hardest... kaya lang naman siya hard is because everyday ang classes tapos may summer pa yang course na yan (ME). pero yung mga friends ko from ME, nahihirapan sila pero wala naman talaga silang reklamo eh... its fun naman eh... hard nga lang...
pero its up to you naman eh... kung saan mo natitipuan... if your heart really wants you go to UP or to Ateneo, then so be it...
right choice? i dont know. its up to you if you made the right choice if youre happy with it.
biased ako since Ateneo ako nag-aaral so ill say ituloy mo na ang ME mo dito. pero *** naman ang bahala diyan eh...
pero ME is not the hardest course in Ateneo. Theology is! hehe :)

After taking ME in ateneo, i would like to say that it is not that tough of a course. The math may not a breeze-as it was in high school-but it is manageable. Don't expect to see straight A's on your report card for math 18/21 in the first year. It's true that all the "hardest course in ateneo" mumbo jumbo is all a bunch of crap. Taking ME is alot easier than majoring in either math, physics or computer science.
Tips for icoming freshmen: study your lecture notes, and live off of the MEA test archives. Don't even bother doing the exercises assigned in the textbook-they are too easy and a waste of time. If you are not that good in math, join a study group. as long as you do your work, you will be able to pass. Although I never had him, whatever you do, do not get the korean guy as your teacher. He may be smart but can't teach.
People say third year is hard. I disagree. The first year, with all the adjusting, is the hardest.
Make sure you enjoy what you are doing. I know a handful of ME graduates who hated the technicality of the course-but stayed because it's "M.E."- got by with so-so grades, and regretted not majoring in something they liked. If business is your thing, and you do not love math, take BM-Honors. all the math will seem useless u and your interest in the course will fade.
In response to X-PAC...if you are happy in Ateneo then you made the right choice. Don't get so preoccupied with the prestige of the course. It does you no good in the real world

dj and xpac: i suggest you try to do good muna before thinking of shifting out... i mean, if you really think that you don't want the course, then think about shifting into something that would best suit you, but if you want the course naman and you're just afraid na you might not do well... well, think about giving it your best shot first... :) you'll be able to handle it naman e :)

i think it is one hard course but not the hardest. it really depends on your skills not only in m.e. or higher math subjects but also in your dedication to study and do your school work. i think it is demanding both in effort and time but i guess it is worth taking if you think that this course will help you in some ways. i think that not all m.e.'s end up in jobs really cut for m.e. but the best that you can get is the discipline and hardwork you will be able to develop if you are honest and serious (though not that serious...siguro bawas social life...except for the exceptional students) in really pursuing such course.
m.e. may be hard but i guess it really depends on what you want to get from it. if you think you are ready for the challenge, then go for it.
that's it. :)
