Medicine - UP

Batang Uliran,

Did the term "toxic" originate from the UP College of Med? I hear that it's being widely used even in the States. How true?

Ada

UP din sa Law.

When I was at UP Med from the late 1980s to 1992 when I finished, it had already been extensively used there to describe a particularly busy shift or duty/call. I'm not sure that UP can claim to have invented the term. Having done 6 years of training here in the US, I confess I have heard it much less frequently and instead, busy is described as well, busy! or "bad."

De La Salle University -
College of Computer Studies for (what else?)
COMPSCI! At tsaka, it's my school and course, eh! :)

La Salle's also good for Business and Eng, to an extent.

Ateneo's good in Law, business and is our main rival! hehehe...kalaban namin ang mga MIS and COMPSCI doon!

UP for medicine, law, polisci, architecture, fine arts, music, dance, fishball, frats, cool people, concerts and sunken garden!

UST for medicine and floods ;)

But seriously, it isn't the school, but the person. Go for it! :)

myke

iwis & basho have a point there... pero hindi ba kailangan din ng good school in order to acquire the knowledge that we wouldn't get from reading books.

psylocke: parang hindi halatang taga-UP ka hah ;) btw, nice name!

students need a good university in order to acquire different knowledge.
good facilities, instructors and curricula (all provided by the school) help in developing a student...

Well, I agree with Iwis. It's not where u studied. Although it helps that u graduated from UP, Harvard, UCLA, ADMU, DLSU....but it all depends on the student. I know some people who just graduated from a community college and yet they are "performers" compared to those people who graduated from universities. Guess let's just see it in the "real" world. Need I say more? :-)

UA&P - econ

weye : dont forget to add Business in your list of what UP is known for....(obvious bang taga-CBA ?) hehehe...

but like what some of you already said, while its true that the school you went to has an impact as to what you learn, its actually entirely up to the perSon to be the best that he can be !

Freak and Iwis

sana totoo yan, pero it helps a lot kung sa better school ka. e papano na yung mahina ang utak tapos deprived pa sa better schools. majority of school goers or graduates had gone through this. nakakaawa lalo na yung hindi kayang magaral sa "2 schools" as others have said.

I'll just limit my post to the top 4 schools in the country, based on info from CHED:

UP - Performing Arts (may gagaling pa ba?), Music (comparable with UST), Engineering (one of the tops if not the best, depends on the type of engineering discipline, pero lahat ata no. 1 sila except ECE kasi bago pa lang), Architecture (the only nemesis of UST in this field), Fine Arts (again at par with UST or better), Science Courses (Pre-Med Course, lahat OK, walang itulak kabigin), Dentistry (no comparison with UE and CEU), Medicine (kaya nga maraming pumupunta ng PGH eh!), Law (remarkably the best!, Ateneo's no. one nemesis)

ATENEO - Law (always exchanging prestige with UP), Business Courses (yes na yes!, ang galing galing nila dine! super..lalo na yung MBA nila...AGSB), Management Eng'g (graduating students were already being eyed by top corps even before graduation)

LA SALLE - Computer Courses (I believe they're the best at this league,:hindi AMA ha!, even my company prefers graduate from La Salle to fill-in positions related to I.T.), Engineering (especially ECE and Che, one of the top 5 eng'g schools in the country), Business Courses (of course!, they are simply the best!...galing din ng MBA program nila)

UST - Medicine (kaya rami ding pumupunta ng UST Charity Hospital, and recent board exam result have shown that they dominated the top 10 positions), Law (do you know that San Beda is not the no. 3 Law School in the Philippines accd. to CHED?, yes its UST!, check out Manila Bulletin's archive although she's a far third), Engineering (especially ECE, one of the top 5 eng'g schools in the Phils.), Music (the duet-partner of UP in this field), Science Courses (especially PT, Nursing, Med Tech, Pharma), Architecture (at par with UP), Fine Arts (marami kasi silang mai-drodrowing sa USTE because of the historical landscape in the campus)

Well, that's all for now!

ateneo and UP. if you are given a choice between 1.taking up a really prestigious course in another school, and 2.being allowed admittance in ateneo or UP in a non-prestigious course, you should still take the second option. they excel in practically all fields. great campuses, and very conducive for learning.

lasalle excels in computer courses and in sports. you might want to check them out too.

yeah! I agree w/ most of you. it all depends on the course you're taking up. but basically, the best is UP. well, maybe because of their different style of training... you have to survive all kinds of people... you have to know how to deal with all kinds of people... the rich, the poor, everyone... best of all, you have to survive the frat wars and all the killings their. no other university or college can offer this.
this i should say is what makes UP diff from the others.
