YS has an appeal that spans different markets, and more people can relate to their articles. Admittedly, I choke at the number of columns (and columnists) they have, but these columns have that pleasant mix of the inane and the interesting. I think they come up with more relevant concerns, though sometimes the articles have a shallow treatment.
2BU, on the other hand, has articles that are better fit for magazines. They come up with interesting topics, but sometimes they become too serious and boring to read. The columns have less substance although they may be informative.

I have friends in both papers. In 2BU, si Raya Mananquil. YS, si Marco Lobregat.
Both papers are OK naman eh. It's interesting to see how friends write in nationwide publications. :)
Sayang nga lang, we don't have Phil. Star. Inquirer lang so I get to read Raya's work. :)

i just have to share this..
the philippine star should actually get rid of marco lobregat. he has no creative juices in him.. why would anybody want to know about what not to touch in a guy. as if naman di pa natin alam yun diba? very.. unintelligent.

YS is about the lives of the different confused elitist teenagers like about their reflection papers in school and the stupidest things they did in the past week. Take that idiotic Matthew Estabillo Rhythm and Weep? Weep lang kaya! yuck talaga he sounds like an airhead.
I like 2bu's articles and especially the lay out and not to mention the drawings. My god sa Young star ang sakit sa mata yung pictures. Crayons ang gamit sa drawings and misan doble ang mga mata sa pictures. Yung YS and pang magazine talaga. Saksakan ng press releases
Ayoko lang sa 2bu ay sobrang nipis nila palagi and kulang sa eye candy but very very nice pics (yung kay Lyn Rillon? asan na siya), fashion spreads and superb writers like Pam Pastor and Maui Reyes.
I really like Erwin Romulo and Luis San Juan of YS. Yan ang
may substance pero niyak Marco Lobregat, Say what? SAY WHAT! Say whaddaf*ck! I took journ class a bit and I can sense na may parang mga ghost writers ang YS and puro press releases nga.
2bu is the thing to read, reflect and it's worth the archive. YS is something to scan and something to use to wrap ceramics later on.

I'd rather read 2bu even though we only get star here at home. in 2bu, the writers write about more relevant things. they don't write about their lives, fashion sense and gimmiks that they had the past week(like matthew estabillo and marco lobregat)
GOOD LORD GET RID OF MARCO LOBREGAT! and what about that column, sisters act.. and mom reacts? haha that's something to laugh about. they keep on giving useless advice like praying to god. i am as christian as the next person.. more pa nga sometimes but.. i have been taught in church that prayer alone doesn't work.
in 2bu, the people there talk more about moreee important things. well, it';s more interesting that YS. YS needs to look for more talented writers and cut down on its columnists.. there are just too many of them. and i know for a fact that as long as "may kilala ka sa star", you can easily get into YS. sa 2bu.. i have no idea but they all seem talented enough to be readable..

I'd go for 2BU i find it more informative and relevant, they cater to teens of various social strata. Their articles are more well-rounded with the general Filipino teen market in mind.
YS on the other hand is obviously 'elitist' with its selection of writers/columnists. its quite sad that these pretty faces couldn't even come up with a piece of intelligent writing. It amuses me to see these elitist kids who are so self-absorbed and sh*twise to begin with, attempting to sound off as cool, creative and prolific when in fact their articles only present their genuinely narrow view. The writing is stale and trivial dealing with frustratingly petty issues. Its so obvious that most of them aren't really exposed to the other side of the spectrum. They try to write about poverty in a reflective sort but honestly they don't even have a clue how to deal with it. Why can't PhilStar tap the regional or provincial writers' pool? Winners of the DSSPC perhaps?
I think they should create a multifold culture among their writers, create a balance in views and more importantly, give these oddly sheltered teens a clear focus on what to write and gripe about.

i just had to search for this thread.
not really familiar with YS, so i cant give a critique re them.
2bu is pathetic. they cater to the elitist youth; READ: the ones-who-are-bound-to-be-successfu-because-of-the-family-name-or-wealth. bah! i read their article on being thrifty once, and they're just.... sheesh. 100 pesos can feed one family for 1 day. it cant sustain these writer-wannabe's for an hour?
yeah, the articles are better fit to lifestyle magazines that cost 80-100 pesos, but value-wise, cost 2.
did someone mention eyecandy? geezus. 2bu articles and artwork are nothing but eyesores.
buy a book instead. and please, not those recommended by these teen purveyors of *******.

I have friends who are correspondents of 2bu and surprisingly most of them come from the B-C class. 2bu in General ay hindi elitist believe me. They get good and bad feedback and they would love it if you send them an e-mail.
I definitely like their artwork by Steph Bravo better than those piece of sh*t drawing with crayons in YS.
YS is the Friday lifestyle section of The Philippine Star and boy they suck. With "writers" like Marco Lobregat ...nevermind
