Nagkakakulay na ang love life ni Erik Santos sa tsismis na magkaribal sila ni Christian Bautista kay Rachelle Ann Go. Nagulat ito't nalaman naming matagal silang nag-usap sa hotel room ni Rachelle noong nasa States sila. Buhay-buhay lang daw nila ang kanilang pinag-usapan na ayaw naming paniwalaan.

Ang alam ni Erik, 'yung nasulat na sweetness at paghu-holding hands nina Rachelle at Christian ay eksena lang sa ginawang music video ng dalawa. Sinabi lang namin na kahit off-cam, ay naghu-holding hands ang dalawa.

Anyway, sasabak uli si Erik sa isang concert and this time, si Ai-AI delas Alas ang kanyang kasama. Gagawin sa Araneta Coliseum sa November 27 ang The Prince of Pop and The Comedy Concert Queen…Two Solos, One Concert at kasama nila ang 75-piece Manila Philharmonic Orchestra.

Guesting in the concert produced by Guess are The CompanY, The Three Young Sopranos, Whiplash and Sandara Park.

Katabi pala namin si Erik nang pinanood ang video clip ni Mahal na hubad na naliligo. "Bakit siya nagpakuha ng ganoon?" tanong ni Erik.

As to music, I think they're on different genres. Christian is more on classic and standard pop while Rachelle is more of edgy R&B pop... they only meet somewhere in the middle (ballads).

Anyway, I like both artists... I just think hindi ganon ka perfect match silang dalawa, but that's just me ;)

Search for a Star champion and new singing star Rachelle Ann Go struck it big with her revival of Don’t Cry Out Loud, the Peter Allen composition popularized by Melissa Manchester some 20 years ago. The popularity of her version resulted in a Gold Record award for her album also titled Rachelle Ann Go after only six weeks in the market. The album is now nearing the Platinum mark and it is expected to heat up more with the release of another single (You and Me) We Wanted It All which coincidentally was also written by Allen in collaboration with Carole Bayer-Sager.

Allen was married to Liza Minelli. He died of AIDS a few years ago and was one of Australia’s greatest entertainers. His life and his music have been immortalized in the hit Broadway musical The Boy from Oz. He is known for sad, bittersweet love songs believed to mirror his complicated life. Among these are I’d Rather Leave While I’m in Love, I Honestly Love You and the two songs that Rachelle Ann recorded. Don’t Cry Out Loud is about keeping one’s feelings inside while We Wanted It All is about finding success at the expense of losing one’s true love.

Rachelle Ann’s recording of We Wanted It All is rendered doubly meaningful because she does it as a duet with Christian Bautista. One of today’s hottest singing heartthrobs, Christian was also discovered in a singing contest. He failed to bag the grand prize but he more than made up for the loss by hitting it big on his first time out in the charts with the number one selling tune The Way You Look at Me from his first album also titled Christian Bautista.

Rachelle Ann and Christian are very good friends. They perform together every week in ASAP Fun-atic, were part of the Night of the Champions concert tour here in the Philippines and recently in the US. However, they are also friendly rivals in the charts with their self-titled albums running neck to neck in the hit lists. Pati nga si Christian, nag-deny na may namumuong relasyon sa kanila ni Rachelle pero, hindi naman nila maipaliwanag kung bakit lagi silang magkatabi sa presscon ng Pinoy Idols. Ang feeling tuloy namin, gusto nilang sila’y tinutukso.

UNDOUBTEDLY, 18-year-old Rachelle Ann Go is the next most exciting artist in the entertainment scene.

The "Star for a Night" champ doesn't only perform well, she exudes a certain charisma and sex appeal that should go with popularity.

And who could be the lucky guy who should win the heart of the winner?

Well, a little birdie told us that during the shoot for the MTV of her new single, "You and Me (We Wanted It All)," it seemed that another winner has won her.

He's Christian Bautista, who she is paired with in the MTV shot on location in New York City and other parts of the US.

Divulged its director, Tim Jimenez, "Rachelle Ann and Christian were

extra-ordinarily sweet toward each other during the shooting. They were even seen holding hands for added warmth against the chilly weather although the cameras weren't rolling. Talagang dinibdib nila ang mga romantic scenes—especially the one where Christian proposes to her and gives her a ring. Parang pang-pelikula ang dating. I am sure their fans will really be excited to see the video," says Jimenez.

The shooting of the video was just one of the highlights of Rachelle's US trip which was so memorable for her. Aside from the sold-out "Night of the Champions" shows that drew thousands of homesick Pinoys from across the US West Coast, Rachelle also got the chance to meet one of her idols, Hilary Duff, at the Universal City Walk outside Universal Studios in Los Angeles.

"Grabe, sobrang saya ng experience na 'yon!" says Rachelle. "Kahit hindi ako nakapanood ng concert ni Celine Dion, at least nakita ko si Hilary Duff, na idol ko din."

Now that she's back home, Rachelle Ann is busy preparing for her next big concert, Pinoy Idols, on November 19 at the Araneta Coliseum. She will be joined by Christian and fellow singing champs Sarah Geronimo, Mark Bautista, Raymond Manalo, Sheryn Regis and Frenchie Dy, grand champion of the second season of Sfar in a Million.

She is also busy promoting her new single, which is fast climbing the charts of FM stations across the country.

She is extremely busy and has almost no time for herself, but Rachelle can't complain. "To think, I've only been in this business for six months, and yet, so many good things have happened to me already. Ang sarap talaga ng feeling. I'm really thankful to God and to all the people who believe in my talent," she says.

Si Rachelle Ann ang gusto ni Erik, hindi si Sarah

Inamin ni Erik Santos na mas gusto niya si Rachelle Ann Go kaysa kay Sarah Geronimo dahil naririnig niyang kay Mark Bautista na ito.

Pero kaagad naming kinorek si Erik dahil ang niligawan pala ni Mark ay si Rachelle Ann na ang boyfriend ay si Christian Bautista.

Nagulat naman kami sa reaction ni Erik, "Ay, hindi po ako papayag, ang alam ko hindi pa sila," bigla niyang sabi.

Ibinalik naman ang tanong kay Erik kung paano niya nalaman na hindi pa nga sila Rachelle Ann at Christian?

"Basta po alam ko," mabilis niyang sagot.

Aminado si Erik na naghahanap lang siya ng panahon para seryosohin ang lovelife niya kasi bisi-bisihan daw siya ngayon at iniisip din niya kung makakatulong ba ang gagawin niya dahil baka raw magkaroon ng conflict since taga-Viva si Rachelle Ann at siya’y taga-Star Records naman.

Kakatuwa naman itong si Christian Bautista. Kung hindi pa niya nabasa sa dyaryo ay hindi pa niya malalaman na isa siyang best seller artist dahil double platinum na pala ang kanyang awiting "The Way You Look At Me" na nakasama rin sa Top 10 radio charts ng Indonesia. May ikalawa at ikatlong single na siya, isang remake ng Breath nung 80s, ang "Hands To Heaven" at "Colour Everywhere" na magkasimbilis umangat ang popularidad. Ang tatlong ito ay kasama sa album niya na release ng Warner Music Philippines.

Kasama si Christian sa Pop Ko ‘To The All Star, All Hits' concert ng Warner na magaganap sa Nobyembre 13 sa Folk Arts Theater. Makakasama niya ang mga kapwa niya taga-Warner na sina Paolo Santos, Nina, Pido, Kitchie Nadal, Dice& K9, Thor at Artstrong.

May awitin di siya sa Christmas collection ng Warner, ang "Silent Night" na nagtatampok sa 11 OPM talents ng Warner din.

yaw nang pag-usapan ni Rachelle Ann Go ang pambabasted niya kay Mark Bautista dahil nagagalit daw ang fans sa kanya. Hindi tinukoy ni Rachelle kung fans niya o fans ni Mark ang nagri-react. Kaibigan pa rin naman daw ang turing niya kay Mark kahit hindi niya tinanggap ang panliligaw nito.

In fact, magkasama sila sa Pinoy Idols concert na gagawin sa Araneta Coliseum sa November 19. Musical showdown ang mangyayari sa concert dahil pawang winner sa tatlong singing contest ang magsasama-sama para magbigay ng saya at magandang musika.

Ipinangako ni Audie Gemora, director ng Pinoy Idols na hindi lang basta biritan ang mangyayari sa gabi ng concert. Iiwasan daw niyang magmukhang singing competition uli ang concert gaya nang nangyari sa Night of the Champions.

Sa totoo lang, sa halip na mag-enjoy ay napagod kami sa panonood sa unang concert ng grupo nina Rachelle at Sarah Geronimo dahil ang feeling nga namin, Star In A Million at Search for A Star ang aming pinapanood sa effort nilang maipakita kung sino ang mas magaling sa kanilang kumanta.

Things are `happening too fast' for Christian Bautista

"I'M HAPPY with what's going on in my life," said Christian Bautista, even as he also admitted that he's still trying to get used to show biz intrigues.

"It's really overwhelming," added the young singer. "Things are happening too fast. But like they say, strike while the iron is hot.
I'm happy that people are starting to appreciate my songs, my album and what I'm doing.

"I also feel drained sometimes," he confessed. "But I try to find something new to do in each new show. That makes it more exciting. That's what keeps me going."

Christian insisted "nothing developed" between him and fellow singer Rachelle Ann Go when they brought "Night of the Champions" to key cities in the United States last month.

"We've all become close friends," said Christian. "That's Sarah [Geronimo], Mark [Bautista], Rachelle [Ann Go] and me. I'm closer to Mark and Rachelle. Mas naging barkada kami ni Mark. Rachelle, well, I sing with her most of the time."

"Rachelle is a very good friend and co-worker," he added. "She is the type of person who really speaks from the heart, hindi siya
plastic. She's a lot of fun. She finds happiness in even the simplest things."

Christian said he is still trying to get used to dealing with intrigues. "There are people who want to say something bad about you or something that's not so right," he said. "People say I'm a loner and that I'm aloof. They just have to know me more. They probably said that because I'm really the quiet, serious type. You ask my friends, they will tell you."

Despite the intrigues, the young singer says he is enjoying his work. His self-titled debut album from Warner Music Philippines
continues to get a lot of airplay. Aside from touring the US, Christian was also part of Fil-American singer Jasmine Trias' concert at the Araneta Coliseum last month. In December, he will be performing at Lea Salonga's homecoming concert.
His next show, called "Show Ko 'To," is on Nov. 13, 8:30 p.m., at Folk Arts Theater. He will be performing with other Warner Music
artists like Nina, Kitchie Nadal, Paolo Santos, Pido, Thor, Artstrong, and Dice & K9. Audie Gemora directs.

"I'm very interested in highlighting each individual and at the same time, coming up with really interesting combinations," said Audie, who also directed Jasmine Trias' Araneta concert. "I want to combine people who have never sung together before. For example, Artstrong is fantastic, he can do break dancing and compose songs. It would be interesting to have him sing with Nina. Christian or Paolo can do something quiet with the guitar players.

"Unlike Jasmine, who was on a promo tour at that time and had a very limited repertoire, we have a lot of time to prepare for this concert," Audie added.

"We also want to highlight the fact that Warner has so many great artists worldwide, like Madonna and Josh Groban. We want to use their music. It would be interesting to see Kitchie sing her version of a song of a foreign Warner Music artist."

Audie said he was still brainstorming with his staff at the time of the interview last week. "There are possibilities. There will
obviously be weaker and stronger performers. The challenge for the director is to make the weaker performers shine."

Christian Bautista: The new pop idol

If not for the "Star in a Million" singing contest of ABS-CBN, Christian Bautista would have not entered show business.

I was never planning to become a professional singer. I finished college and I just wanted to take the board, get a job, get married and raise a family. I just wanted the simple life," he shared.

A graduate of Landscape Architecture from the University of the Philippines, Diliman, Quezon City, he never even envisioned himself going full blast in singing.

But as it is, Christian's "dilemma" is now to find the time to review and take his board exam to be a licensed landscape architect.

"I'm still planning and it has to be anytime soon before I forget everything."

Christian is one of the few survivors of "Star in a Million" who has made a name for himself.

"It is not whether you win or not in that contest," he explained. "It is what you will do after. It is how you will project yourself in the industry through your performances or your songs. It is how you keep yourself going."

He added that when his break came in showbiz, he found out that he was enjoying himself more. This was when he became more passionate about singing. He also liked performing to a live audience. Singing has become his life and he is proud and happy with the many blessings it has given him and his family.

He admitted to have undergone a lot of adjustments since he first set foot in the entertainment industry.

"Grabe ang adjustments! Ang daming kailangan gawin kasi hindi ako sanay na ang dami-daming taong tumitingin sa akin. Bugbog ako sa trabaho everyday, but I guess I can say that I learned along the way. Marami na akong nalaman and na-improve on becoming an artista and yet still be a normal person."

His self-titled album with the carrier ingle "The Way You Look At Me," has already reached double platinum status since it was launched last April. He has also become one of the in-demand young performers in the country.

Just recently, he was part of the successful "Night of the Champions" and the "Night of the Champions: The U.S. Tour."

It was a very memorable experience for Christian.

"I was really surprised. Nakakagulat ang response ng mga tao. I just can't believe how our songs reached out to all of them.

He calls the other singers who were with him in these concerts to be friends. He sees it as an advantage when people compare them to one another since each one of them is remembered. It's a healthy competition, he said.

"When they talk about Erik Santos, they sometimes mention my name. So somehow nabibigyan kami ng boost which feels good. Hindi lang isa ang angat, nagtutulungan kami and if we have shows, walang lamangan."

On Nov. 19, Christian Bautista will again be part of another musical extravaganza that will feature the singers from "Night of the
Champions" concert like Sarah Geronimo, Rachelle Ann Go, Raymond Manalo and Mark Bautista. This time around, the show entitled "Pinoy Idols" which will be held at the Araneta Coliseum will have two additional vocal powerhouses in "Star in a Million" first season runner-up Sheryn Regis and the grand champion from the second season Frenchie Dy.

"Pinoy Idols" will give equal exposure to the seven singers.
Everyone will be in different production numbers plus costume changes for their fans. "Pinoy Idols" is sponsored by Redbox
Karaoke, Manila Bulletin, Skechers and BBM catering Services. It is a presentation of VIVA Concerts.

Christian added that people will enjoy the show since it will be a variety of performances.

"For example, me when I sing, mas gusto ko na smooth and the lyrics of my songs are clearer. Hindi ako masyadong birit mas gusto kong suwave ang dating."

With a double platinum album, concerts here and there, Christian expressed that there's more to expect from him.

"Of course you want to be excellent in what you are doing now. So hopefully mas malayo pa ang marating ko, hopefully we could reach
other countries with our songs. Hopefully we could be better performers. Meron pang pwedeng gawin. I can go into song writing, I
can improve myself. I can also go into acting."

So what does he think about when he is associated with the words champion and idol?

"They are just titles given to us. But I don't really think about them. I just perform my best when I'm on stage!"

Pinoy Idols: On wings of song

Ever since the respective contests that turned them into overnight stars, Sarah Geronimo, Rachelle Ann Go, Sheryn Regis, Mark Bautista, Christian Bautista, Raymond Manalo and Frenchie Dy have been having the time of their lives.

On Nov. 19, these seven young singers will get together for their concert Pinoy Idols: Battle of the Popstars at Araneta Coliseum. Although most of them have been together since the first Night of the Champions concert, the repeat, and the US tour that followed, all have become good friends, bound by their passion for music.

Theater veteran Audie Gemora, who directs the show, says he considers it "a real privilege" being given the chance to direct such fine young talents. He promises this show will be different from Night of the Champions, not just because it has a different cast of singing superstars, but because "I’ll be injecting a lot of ‘theatricality’ into it." So expect bigger, more elaborate production numbers, more fantastic duets, and overall, a better show.

Let’s get to know more about these rising musical superstars.

Sarah Geronimo – The former Star For A Night grand champion took showbiz by storm. Concerts, recording, television, movies, commercials – she’s into all these. Her debut disc – which includes Forever’s Not Enough, Sa Iyo, and To Love You More – turned multi-platinum within weeks of its release. During last year’s Metro Manila Film Festival, she was in two of the official entries. She has her own TV show (Sarah, The Teen Princess) and is a regular on several others, including ASAP.

Rachelle Ann Go – Sarah’s best friend and textmate. Sarah calls her "Shin" (her real nickname). Rachelle calls Sarah Ate out of respect, even if Rachelle is older than Sarah by a few years.

Rachelle Ann is best known for her remake of Don’t Cry Out Loud, a favorite at karaoke and videoke bars. At the press conference for Pinoy Idols, Rachelle Ann was the Artist of the Month. Patrons got the surprise of their lives when she went from room to room to sing her signature song.

Sheryn Regis – She is the smallest in the group. She could be mistaken for a little girl, with her interest in stuffed toys and Barbie dolls (she has about 40 in a closet at home in Mandaue City, Cebu).

But this little girl with the big voice is full of surprises. For one thing, did you know that she is a teacher? She was supposed to start teaching English at the International School in Cebu when the Star in a Million contest came calling. "Once in a lifetime opportunity ’yon, so I grabbed it and came to Manila," she says.

Mark Bautista– He doesn’t look it, but Mark is the pasaway of the group. During the Night of the Champions US tour, they were instructed to always go out in groups, especially since for many of them, it was their first time in the US.

But Mark, wanting to make the most of his trip, thought he’d steal some time for himself. While Rachelle Ann and Christian were shooting the music video for You and Me (We Wanted It All) in New York, he came along, and walked by himself to Times Square. He also managed to see Rockefeller Center and St. Peter’s Church before being discovered.

Christian Bautista – Like Mark, 23-year-old Christian also has no time for girlfriends. The group’s heartthrob, Christian is the hottest thing in the music business today because of Hands to Heaven and The Way You Look at Me, which has been released in Indonesia. Christian’s manager, Carlo Orosa shares that Christian’s album is enjoying "priority" status in that Asian country, a rare honor for a first-time recording artist.

"With my schedule, having a girlfriend would be impossible. It would be unfair to the girl if I can’t spend time with her," says Christian, who is rumored to be playing sweet music with Rachelle Ann. But while she may be the youngest in terms of experience, she is a heavyweight – literally. Frenchie has always been secure about herself (and her size).

"During the contest, some people were saying, I couldn’t win because I was too big. I told them I wasn’t expecting anything. I would just do my best." Her attitude and talent won her the Star in a Million title.

Christian Bautista, that lanky looker in "Night Of The Champions" concert who can’t dance the "Otso-Otso" properly yet still gets girls swooning, is fast becoming the singing contest find this year.

Aside from clinching one of 2004’s biggest OPM hits, "The Way You Look At Me," the eponymous debut from which it was culled was awarded Double Platinum recently by his record company, Warner Music Philippines.

But wait! There’s more (as Home TV Shopping Channel would say): A recent visit to Warner Music Philippines office revealed that Christian has also topped the Indonesian charts! "The Way You Look At Me," released just three weeks ago there, has hit Number One in the Ardan Top Request countdown, Ninetyniners 100 FM and Istara 101.FM.

We saw print outs of the countdowns and it’s no mere feat. For the past weeks, Christian had to fend off singles by top international acts as Destiny’s Child, Ashanti, Eminem, Justin Timberlake and Usher from overtaking his.

In fact, Christian is so hot in Indonesia right now that Warner Music Indonesia is bringing him there end of this month or early next year so he could shoot added footages to his video of "Hands To Heaven" (second big single in Manila). This move is expected to up his 25,000 album sales there so far.

Warner Music Indonesia is also planning to make minor changes to the "Christian Bautista" album cover by casting his photo against a red backdrop (for Feng Shui purposes, we guess). If you’re planning to go there this Christmas, then better grab a copy. Who knows, when Christian has become as big as Martin Nievera (not farfetched considering latest developments), it might turn out as collector’s item, eh?

Actually, no one should be surprised with these blessings in Christian’s life. The guy is so down-to-earth and generous with his talents that no one can begrudge him of success.

Christian also has God-given people backing him. His managers Audie Gemora and Carlo Orosa are both renewed Christians who do not think of money at all when it comes to handling Christian’s career. For these guys, it’s all about exposing Christian’s talents to the hilt to glorify God’s name. Noble.

Last to get a pack on the back is Warner Music Philippines that went the extra mile of canvassing the best songs for Christian’s debut. Undoubtedly, they paid more in royalties to get "The Way You Look At Me" (a song penned by an American writer) for Christian. But, well, look at what’s happening now. Kudos to all of you!
