View Full Version : san beda, a league of their own

i watched the last few minutes of the san beda-perpetual game while awaiting the letran-pcu match last month. although the bedans lost the match, for me, they were the real champions, because they showed grace and class in the midst of a hearbreaking loss. the entire san beda community was so proud of each of their players and it showed.

i was awed by the spontaneous outpouring of support given by the bedan spectators for their players after they lost. and while the perpetual students were jeering them, the bedans rose from their seats to pay tribute to their players by singing their school anthem. it was a sight to behold! i would have joined in the chorus had i known the lyrics, because i wanted to be a bedan at that very moment. i am not one to get into catfights but i was moved to snap at a particularly rude perpetual student who kept
jeering the bedans. sabi ko, with as much disgust as i could muster: "now i know why they call you guys "squatters"!. i am not proud of what i said but i am glad i put them where they really belong: the gutters!

san beda has earned a loyal fan in me. i will be a bedan at heart. always!

i know how you feel man.. expect non-appreciative replies in this thread.. you know this league, it reflects on the people who post in this thread.

i wish i was there. i saw that missed shot on tv.. even the folks at bedista.com feels the pain..

there is already a champion. they deserve it. and that game would turn out as one of the heartbreaks in san beda's basketball history. there is always next year as all of us say.

 :) i have said this many times, im a letranite but what makes me proud is that im happily married to a bedan. bedans are said to be "maangas, mayabang, manyakis" but my husband is not, maybe some of them are true but seeing the side of the recent concluded ncaa even if i am a product of the 79th champion scul, letran, i must say that san beda has the all glory and guts to say and to be called the real champions. given the chance to transfer, no doubt, ill transfer to san beda but im not saying my scul is not good :p what i wished and hoped for after loosing the game against pcu is that, students, administrators of letran should have sung the alma mater as a sign of acceptance (though it is really hard to accept the fact that we lus d game) im proud of u bedans!!! for u have shown the entire nation how mannered and true u r to your scull ;) i hope next year we will be lucky enough to win!!! GO SAN BEDA FIGHT ARRIBA LETRAN

"maangas, mayabang, manyakis" u will find these kind of earthlings in any institution. this is not an exclusive of SBC

Bedans sing the Bedan hymn win or loose. We may loose the game ... but never the pride and dignity as a Bedan.

we share the same sentiments, man...

I am (was) a letranite, but have always been a bedan at heart... (who cares about the fabled "rivalry"?) Letran lost that day, too, but the impact of San Beda's loss was much too unbearable. boy, they've gotten that far... the chances of a first finals appearance after what, seven years (am i correct?) was just within reach...but totally blown with that unforgettable missed shot. (but hey, NO ONE's blaming arjun... still love the guy...)

I was one among the thousands of bedans who held their breath on that last second, and who found themselves stunned for a minute or two, and crying the next. (yes, I cried...:~( )

oh well... that's basketball... we'll always have the next season to look forward to, and the FAITH in the chance of finally getting the coveted crown next time...

Thank you very much! I might not be in the coliseum during the game but my heart bled together with my brothers. We maybe bloodied but we are unbowed, we are still proud of our school and what it stands for. San Beda might have been defeated that day but it won many friends like you, a priceless gift indeed.

if there would be a compliment worth noting, this would be it. among bedans, we know that camaraderie and brotherhood are what set us apart from other schools. but an affirmation from an outsider, is a proof that we are indeed a league of our own.

thanks and join us next season for another quest to bring home what is truly ours, the championship crown.

makakabawi kayo nyan next year don't worry with a good coach and system plus if it's really true that menor and taganas will play for the red lions the chances for san beda to become 2005 ncaa champs is far from being impossible...i'm from la salle but i cheer more for beda rather than csb hehe...

good luck to the red lions next season

The REALITY is that there is more to LIFE than winning Basketball Championships. It's enduring the struggles & defeats that one faces in pursuit of excellence at the same time building up one's CHARACTER worthy to be called a TRUE CHAMPION. This we have seen in the BEDAN COMMUNITY as noted by our threadstarter.

very well-said my friend...but then again, did you really expect the likes of borgie to understand the intangibles of sports? otherwise he and his ilk wouldn't be bashing and dissing teams like they invented the sport.

this is exactly the reason why i started this thread, because as cheesy as it sounds, i was absolutely awed by the spontaneous tribute that the bedan spectators showed their team that day. i had goosebumps. i will never forget that moment. i've been to several nba and ncaa games sa states but i have never experienced this.dito lang sa bayan natin which made it all the more special para sa akin.

i wish i could say the same about the letran continget that day. when it was pretty obvious that they were gonna lose the game, the letranites in the audience started bad-mouting the players. look at what they did to ronjay in this forum, di ba? may lynch-mob mentality. it shows letran's immaturity and ungraciousness in defeat.

i apologize for the length of this post, kasi nakakalungkot lang magbasa ng mga "put-downs" ng tulad nila borgie. it shows a total lack of character. very sad, indeed!

It really pains me to see that people from other schools regard letranites as such. Though I am fully aware that most letranites do act rowdy specially during games (boy, I have seen them one too many times myself, and I'm telling you, I'm not exactly proud of them..:shy: ) I wish to stress that there are other Letranites who are more disciplined, upright individuals, and who possesses, yes, a lot more maturity.

I know very well that a lot of letran-bashing goes around in several forums (specially in bedista.com----boy, do they really hate us letranites!) and believe me, it's always hard reading those nasty (but most of the time true) comments about letran students. I repeat, though most of the things you guys thought of us were near-truth, there ARE a better lot of us, so cut us some slack, ok?

peace, everyone....

all schools have share of bad apples, san beda is no exception. so if there are bashers at bedista.com, they don't necessarily represent the whole bedan studentry. in as much as we can, we discourage any form of bashing and we close threads that attack other schools as soon as possible. if you have been to bedista.com recently, the content has somewhat improved.

nevertheless, if there was harm done, we regret it. we'll be more responsible next time.

You ended your post with "I'm not bashing or anyhting REALITY LANG" to make it appear that you are sincere on what you have posted and to give it a semblance of truth. Guess what? It won't work.

You know what's reality? You are one of the students in the NCAA that pave the way for the said league to go swirling down the drain.

What if SBC is planning to leave the NCAA? Does that rub you in a wrog way? Pare, get a life--grab yourself a lillipop or something.

i don't think that san beda is going to be an N.U. in the making tingin ko nga they can beat N.U. or maybe even a team like UST or UE okay naman lineup nila and with a good coach and system in place may laban din sila against the uaap teams dapat talaga magsama na lang ulit ncaa and uaap para mas magkaalaman talaga who's better malaking tulong talaga if san beda goes to uaap mas astig ang liga and defintely the prestige level of ncaa will diminish big time...

If ever, after 8 or 9 years pa yan. SBC cant join UAAP yet. Pag nag-graduate na yung first batch ng MED students nila, then they can consider the possiblity of moving leagues. Until then, NC' muna.

SBC's current expansion of course offerings, the whole plan and timetable ends, coincidentally, when this first batch of MED studes graduate.

I remember Father Anthony Mendoza sharing the info that other plans/ changes will follow only AFTERwards.....

Consdering that transfering from one league to another is a major move for any school, certainly that will come AFTER this expansion being undertaken by SBC.

Even then, baka may mangayari nang maganda sa NC' over the same period, at hindi na maisipan pang lumipat.

i started this thread because i wanted to pay tribute to a team that impressed me, not to diparage anyone. that's never my style.

i am saddened that so-called college students like this one, have the gall to take this thread and use it to denigrate others.

although the cyberspace shields us from any responsibility for our boorish actions, we gotta have have some sense of personal accountability and respect for others. that is called common decency, and this is what your schools should be teaching you, if your own parents hadn't already.

shame on you!
