why is a cum laude grad from ust working as a receptionist/ telephone operator in earth and style in ortigas?
of course, there is nothing wrong with being a receptionist. it is decent. it is honest.
but a cum laude alum from a big school such as ust?
wag naman ganon.

Do you know this person and his/her circumstances?

pero mang danny, kahit alam mo ang buong kwento eh mahirap pa ring manghusga, 'di ba?
KuyaDanny
Sep 19, 2004, 12:43 PM
Oo naman. Lalo na kung hindi tayo judge. And if the receptionist doesn't think his/her situation is an outrage, why should anyone else?

Sep 19, 2004, 12:48 PM

i remember a lecture by dr. hornedo in UST. he had a classmate in the college of education who graduated summa cum laude. you know where she is now? a proud full-time mother of intelligent kids just like her. she's not a waste and being a mother is the most honest job ever.
ang pag-aaral naman kasi, hindi lang para makakuha ng trabaho (pero kasama rin naman 'yun). education's main purpose is to change our lives and to change the way we think and move in the society. kaya nga "education" eh.
besides, going up can also mean another thing: leaving others behind. you'll know this in philosophy.
without these people, there wouldn't be balance. hindi puwedeng lahat ay maging mataas. mas may silbi pa nga ang nasa baba, kasi walang nasa itaas kung wala sila and they do the job more than those na nasa taas and they're paid less. magkaiba naman kasi 'yung being paid more dun sa doing the job properly.

You guys can have her.

si brod pete ng dating doon (bubble gang), graduate rin ng UsTe. mga 1975 'ata siya graduate. he's one of the best comedy writers ever. he wrote for John and Marsha (RPN 9), the highest-rating comedy show for almost 20 years (mga less than 20 years naman). marami siyang napasayang mga tao.

you guys are missing the point. ang tendency nyo talaga ay either magpataasan ng ihi (in the case of ateneo, la salle and up) or magjustify and magpalubag-loob (in the case of ust).
we should feel for the young lady.
it is not right that these companies force these young grads to undersell their talents.
the government should start taking better care of the youth.
KuyaDanny
Sep 20, 2004, 06:54 PM
How do you know that the young grad has undersold her talents?
Malay mo kaya niya tinanggap yung receptionist dahil madali yung trabaho at pwede siyang mag-aral pag gabi?
Kahit ano siyan pwede diba?
Alamin muna natin.

At Atenista.net. I counted at least six (6) forumers, all graduated from Ateneo, without jobs.

If you're saying it's an "outrage" because people are unwilling to offer her jobs BECAUSE SHE'S FROM UST, then you would be right.
But if you think it's an outrage that she has a job, when many others, cum laude or otherwise, cannot find one, then I may have to disagree with you.
You haven't given us the complete picture. What was her major? What jobs/companies did she apply for/to? How many rejections did she get before she got this job? And if it was so beneath her, why did she allow herself to take this job?
There are too many factors you haven't shared yet. I think this may be a friend of yours, which is why you would want her to have a better job. That's perfectly understandable. But please don't demean receptionists all over by saying that it would be beneath a cum laude grad. My father graduated top of his class, but had to start working in a minimum wage job because he had to support his family. He never felt sorry for himself, and kept working hard. He ended up being EVP of that company, before moving on to become President of a bank. If your friend is as good as you believe her to be, then don't worry. The cream always rises to the top.

that arneow's summa grad didn't pass in UP Diliman.
So he followed the standards…… he went to that school beside his dream school and the funny part is, he finished his programme with summa. ridiculous....
