Hi, I'm planning to get into U.P.'s M.S. program in materials science and engineering and I was wondering how hard it is to get into that program. The website was lacking some of the details that I am looking for.

Thanks. :d

You need to have good grades and good recommendations from former professors. Try to visit the Engineering Graduate office at Melchor Hall.

^^ I think it's harder to get into the MEEE program... I remember this one time, a UST Student applied to the MEEE program and the coordinator told him, "Your GWA (1.9) is quite low for your school..." Cruel noh? But that should give you an idea...

sa MEEE naman, may variability kung saang "area" (microelectronics, computers and comms, instrumentation and control, power etc..). mahigpit ang competition sa micro saka sa power (daw)

so malaking bagay ang good undergrad grades and recommendation. may essay pa nga yata na required

I thought meron silang evaluation kung saan t!t!mbangin nila yung mga grades mo? Bakit refused agad?

I still have 5 trimesters left in the school where I'm taking my undergrad studies, all majors na yun.

According sa graduate school evaluation system nila, I need 60 points to be able to enter graduate school, so far sa nakukuha ko, I only have 15.82 (minus the recommendations pa yun), maihabol ko pa kaya yun? Baka sakali...Oh, and since passing the ECE board has an additional point, i decided to take the exam first before entering grad school. sana bigyan ako ng magandang recommendation ng prof ko dito pag nag-apply na ko sa MEEE.

i really want to pursue my higher studies sa UP Diliman. sana makapasok.

Wish me luck, guys, I'm battling the impossible. :weep:

if you teach in other schools for some time before applying, I think that you will also have good chances. Especially if the school is outside Metro Manila. Do not resign your appointment when you apply for any EEE MS degree.

when i shifted to EE there, tinakot pa ako ng screening committee. actually isa lang sya, and the spiel went something like "i dunno if we can accept you, we did turn down some very good intarmed students with real good grades...."

Hey AbulugAdventure, what do you mean when you say you've got 15.82 points when what is needed is 60 points? Care to elaborate? Iyong patungkol sa graduate school evaluation nila...

Thanks!

abulug- I don' have the latest numbers pero relatively mas konti ang nasa Instrumentation compared sa Micro and power. don't be disheartened to apply kung sa palagay mo nakaka-15 points pa lang. you'll never know unti you try...

anyway, the evaluation exists kaya be sure to submit all the requirements. di naman biased ang grad school kung di ka from UP. may mga students especially sa MEEE na grads ng Ateneo, Mapua, MSU and TIP. actually yung mga taga MSU, teachers sila sa MSU and they took a study leave to enter grad school

Will a gpa of 2.7 out of a possible 4.0 get me into the masteral program in engineering?

meeron silang equivalent points sa bawat grade na makukuha mo. then isama mo dun yung evaluation ng prof mo plus other factors para makumpleto ang evaluation

grades - 70%
recom - 30%

me plus points pa sa iba pang event like passing the board, taching experience, work experience, etc.

I'll elaborate it later. ;)

It is *NOT* difficult to get into the UP College of Engineering Graduate programmes. The thing is, do you have what it takes to finish and get the degree? :)

I recently visted the site again, parang nag-iba ang policy nila ngayon...I'll check again...
