The First Philippine Ozone Desk
SHORT STORY WRITING CONTEST 2004
CONTEST RULES
1. The contest is open to all grade school teachers of private schools in the National Capital Region.
The stories should contain any of the relevant information about the ozone layer, its function, and/or the need to protect it.
The Philippine Ozone Desk will provide information materials on ozone depletion to participating schools in Metro Manila.

Entries will be judged according to the following criteria:
30% . . Adequate and accurate science information
35% . . Original story concept and creative treatment
35% . . Style and language competence
All entries must be original, unpublished, and intended for children aged 6 to 12 years old. These may be written in English or in Filipino.
Entries must be typewritten, double-spaced, on short bond paper, with a length of not more than 5 pages. Each entry/story must have a title, centered on top of the first page, with the author's pen name written below it. Entries must be placed inside a sealed brown envelope containing the following:
· Five copies of each entry/story, on the face of which only the title of the story and the pen name of the contestant should appear.
· A separate letter envelope where the title of the story & pen name of the contestant must be written. Sealed inside the letter envelope is the contestant’s entry form completely filled in and a notarized certification from the author vouching for the originality of the entry.
A contestant may send in up to two (2) entries/stories.
The maximum number of contestants for every school is two (2).
Only the first fifty (50) entries/stories will be considered as official entries to the contest.
All entries must be sent to this address:

DENR Compound, Visayas Avenue,
Diliman, Quezon City
All entries must be received by this office not later than 3:00 p.m. of September 10, 2004.
The judges will select 6 winners: three best stories in English and three best stories in Filipino. The following will be awarded to the winners:
· 1st Place Winner -- Php20,000 and a plaque
· 2nd Place Winner -- Php15,000 and a plaque
· 3rd Place Winner -- Php10,000 and a plaque
All entries will automatically be the property of the Philippine Ozone Desk. The POD reserves the right to use the contestants’ entries in any medium, print or broadcast and the right to exhibit the entries.
Personnel and officers of the Philippine Ozone Desk and their relatives up to the third degree of affinity or consanguinity are disqualified to join.
