Meron ba nito? As in yung formal clothing? I am making a biz wardrobe overhaul and kelangan ko ng mga modern design ideas sa men's formal wear (tux, blazers, coat, etc.). Kung meron, saan ako makakabi ng ganitong magazine at how much? Salamat po. :D

Amazon. Get a good book on men's clothing. not only do you get designs, but the basics of good dressing and the different kinds of fabrics and when and how they should be used. Then supplement it. Don't try to copy magazine designs outright unless you're very comfortable with the details of style. Kase may mga styles na nasa GQ na maliit na maliit ang margin of error between looking stylish and looking weird.

Also, if you're looking for more mainstream designs, see the websites of Banana Republic, Kenneth Cole, Hugo Boss. Ingat ka lang kase papasok na ang fall/winter collection, which is usually heavier than what you would want to wear if you're in Manila

Are you in Manila? a tux? Some of the s

There are a lot of men's magazines that have fashion spreads, and a good number of them feature formalwear every now and then. Check out GQ and Details usually at their November - January issues as these are the months where they tackle Fall-Winter clothes, and most of fall-winter themes pertain to formality. Vger is correct, though, the stylists sometimes get mental lapses, so have a discerning eye (with fabrics, layering, mixing & matching, etc).

Arena Homme +, and FHM Collections are bi-annual magazines that also have formal wear sections. They're pricey magazines, but they are all about men's fashion.

Finally, this is a different take on your case, but check out designer's websites. Most of their websites come with all their styles and clothes for the particular season, which can be printed (so you can bring it to the store). In your case, print out several, and have it made with a tailor you're comfortable with.

Vger Maybe that's one consideration I've overlooked (balance and harmony). And yes, I've already visited such websites prior to my query here but didn't find any success. And yes, I am in Manila. Actually, 1-2 set lang ng formal clothing ang kailangan ko (such as tux/coats nga). Not my daily/regular wear but medyo dumadami na kasi ang ocassion na pinupuntahan ko na nangangailangan ng formal wear.

mysticpaladin Yes, the're pricey indeed. I surfed the net for GQ and it tags at around USD15.00 (and that is on sale already). How much more dito sa Pinas. Maybe I'll look for back issues (say, 2-3 months tops). All I need is a decent design that will match my taste and most of the people who'll be seeing me. Dress to success ako ngayon e. Hehehe.

Since you're in Manila, why a tux? You're not going to get many chances to wear it, unless you're getting married or part of a wedding entourage. I'd rather that you go with a dark blue suit as your basic and then a black or, if you can find a very nice fabric, gray. Other recommendations: 3 button, make at least one of the pants flat front (actually both if you ask me, but depends a lot on how young you are and your body structure). To be quite frank, take a look at the G2000 website. It's a value (read: low-priced) brand in HK, but I once talked with a member of their senior management in HK and he said that they literally copy European designs.

And suits are only half the story, save some of the cash for really good shirts and ties. Maganda isuot with nice jackets/blazers.

Hmmm... I thought kasi na parang pare2ho lang yung dating (or purpose) ng coat/suit/tux since they all look formal and I chose tux because maganda talaga sya tignan (IMHO).

And btw, what do you mean by "flat front" and "3 button"? Yoe mean, the number of buttons used in the sui itself? And is blue and gray a better pair (or set) than black and gray? What are the colors that I should look for in a suit? I have a medium body built and in very early 20's.:D And about shirts and ties: in formal clothing, it seems that you put more emphasis on both. Why is that? I mean, you'll be putting an overcoat anyways?

honestly, forget the tux. now that i know na walang specific purpose, di mo masusuot yan.

Three button - yung butones sa suit jacket. flat front - walang pleats yung pantalon. since bata ka pa, mag flat front ka na. wag ka lang nga tataba.

yung dark blue suit kase napaka versatile, everything from business to kasal to, in a pinch, using it as a blazer. In other words, blue is safe.

As for black, it's the one you wear when you want to make a bit more of a statement, but still stay within the safe rang.

Probably wait a few more years before you wear gray.

As for the shirt and tie, it's what differentiates you. A dark blue suit with a white shirt can be worn by anybody. Pero tingnan mo yung ibang shirts sa Banana Republic or yung kay Thomas Pink, biglang you're in that small group that knows how to dress.

And my previous greatest sin (something I was guilty of): wearing things that are too loose. Know your neck size and sleeve length and mag ingat ka na hindi masyadong loose yung pantalon mo at shirt na bibilhin mo.

GQ is sold locally for about P400. Back issues (say, three months back) goes for about 150, it isn't a bad deal, really. I don't know which website sells GQ for $15 (maybe a subscription?), but it shouldn't be too pricey. I was referring to Arena Homme + and FHM Collections, checking in at $15 and $10.

VgerAyos nga yung 3-button style. Saw it in several websites and it does look good as compared sa mga traditional designs. As for the flat front, yun siguro ang medyo di ko masusuot kasi medyo mataba ako ng bahagya.:D

Color: Maybe I'll settle with black bec. I find it more versatile than any other colors (hmm... how about pinstripes?). What do you think about ivory and or light cream? I'm planning to but 2 sets so the other set must be light-colored. What do you think?

Shirt: When you say shirt? Are you referring to the undershirt or the long sleeves underneath the suit? Should I go for solid colors or something with design (say, tri-colored/psychedelic-like striped long sleeves)? May nakita kasi ako kanina sa MANual mag eh (one of the models in their "day suit" recommendation/suggestions is wearing this kind of design and it looks fab).:D

mysticpaladinMaybe tis a subscription fee nga (http://www.epicurus.com/store/browse.php?BrowseNode=602352&BrowseSubNode=&Mode=magazines&itemID=B00005N7QI). Anyways, I'll settle na lang sa back issues (di naman siguro ganung kaoutdated yun ano?).:)

ctbankLahat ba ng branch ng Filbars meron?

badboychinese Why is it that all links lead to one page?:(

Actually, may mga kilala ako who wear flat front up to a 38 inch waistline and 5'8" lang sya, pero British naman kase yung mananahi nya.

Look for a tan suit, or cream. Olive, in the right shade, with brown shoes is also good.

As for shirt, it always means the long sleeve shirt.

which is better or considered a classic?

the two buttoned suit or having three buttons?
(i've always considered the former)

& if you wouldn't wear your jacket, please, dont wear a tie. you'll look like you'll tend a table. hehe or worse a car salesman.

Vger Napanood ko kasi si Gary V. dati sa isa nyang concert (he wore a black pinstripe) and maganda dating- sa kanya. Ewan ko lang sakin.:D As for the pants, di naman ako masyado mataba. I'm 5'7" and 32-34 in. waistline. My only problem is, my thigh is bigger as compared to other people my size and age. Yun lang siguro hassle.

Color: Buti nasabi mo... may nakita nga pala ako na olive-colored suit sa Onesimus dati at muntik ko na bilhin. Maybe I'll just look for the right and light color shade (o baka cream na lang kunin ko kung wala ako makita).

Thanks man! I really appreciate your advice.;) Now I'm off to Divisoria to buy good quality articles (may binebenta sa King Philip, Php4K++/meter... nakita ko same brand and textile sa Divisoria @ Php450/meter). :D

clawed_out Well, that's what I don't like about misconceptions in wearing tie+shirt (long sleeves). You'll be branded/looked upon as such. Only here in the Phils., as always.:(

2 or 3 always work. although i like the fact that three buttons on a properly fitted suit really improves the structure.

and tama ka doon sa tie and jacket. kahit hindi mo isuot yung jacket at nakasabit lang sa braso mo buong araw, dalhin mo. pero sa pilipinas, nakasanayan na din. so ako inniisp ko e di kung praktikal, bayaan mo na.=. pero once ka meeting mo e taong alam yung tama, don't go with a tie without a jacket.

So kailangan parati palang may jacket ka na dala (to go with your shirt and tie?)?

Vger
Aug 17, 2004, 09:20 AM

So this is the general accepted rule in fashion world...

Btw, what kind of jacket are you referring to? Blazer jacket or the one that goes with the suit? Or either?

Vger
Aug 17, 2004, 11:58 PM

One more thing: ano ba yung pinaka-OK na tela for suits? Should I go for 100% wool? Or cotton?
