View Full Version : New C S B Coach

i think it's time to replace coach tonichi. i do have high respects for his coaching and his accomplishments as a coach but i think he isn't bringing out the best in his players.. i noticed this when i watched a game live. di tulad ni coach dong vergeire he maximized the talents of his players and he eventually won a championship on his first year.

i think CSB should now look for a new coach for next season. let tonichi finish the season.

hey you can't expect a team to win each and every game as well as each season's championship

hey it's not the coach, i hav a great respect for ytturi, remember last year 1 *** talo nila sa second round despite n rookie coach *** sya AND LATE N SYa inacquire ng benilde, unfortunately nawala halos lahat ng starting lineup nya last year, kaya panibago n nmang rebuilding ang gagawin nya, kaya wag nyo sisihin *** coach, tingnan nyo nga *** mga accomplishments nya, maswerte nga benilde kc sya *** coach... tsaka tingnan nyo nmn roster ng benilde nde pang ncaa caliber, sisihin nyo sports moderator ng school nyo, pangit *** recruitment

Yes, I agree. He should be replaced! Eversince he became a coach, nagka-leche leche na ang team. Mahirap talaga kasi pag hindi ka professional like Tonichi. Gugustuhin ba natin na paurong ang growth natin when it comes to sports.

Thats it!!!

Jul 16, 2004, 10:18 PM
Animo Benilde

I would agree with what Roaring Lion said about the sports moderator. And yes, recruitment has changed. Iba ang connections na nagagawa ng coaches tulad ni Dong nuon compared kay Tonichi Yturri who has coached the Cebu Gems in the defunct MBA.

Coach Tonichi Yturri has been with CSB since 1995. Pinalitan siya ni Bong Go when the Blazers entered the NCAA in 1998, tapos si Dong Vergeire, tapos bumalik siya. Ang pinakamagandang record na nagawa niya para sa Blazers was back in 96 or 97 when CSB was still playing in the NCRAA. Decent 3rd place finish. And we were winning against Ateneo at that time.

The phase the team has been going through will definitely make them stable by next year. Although I wouldn't wanna make bold predictions like madam fortune, I would rather think of them as a work in progress. Give him 2 more seasons. :D

1998 - Jose Antonio Yturri replaced his former teammate Leoncio Tan Jr. early in the season and guided the Cebu Gems (http://www.pinoyexchange.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=47572) to the Southern Conference Finals, losing to the Negros Slashers (http://www.pinoyexchange.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=47576);

1999 - first full season, reached the MBA National Finals, losing to the Manila Metrostars. Coached the Southern All-Stars in the Battle of the MBA Stars;

2000 - reached the Southern Conference Finals, losing to the Slashers (http://www.pinoyexchange.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=47576);

2001 - reached the Southern Conference Finals, losing to the Slashers (http://www.pinoyexchange.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=47576). Yturri was replaced after the season by Francis C. Rodriguez.

Throughout his stay with the Cebu Gems (http://www.pinoyexchange.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=47572), the local media and fans were very unforgiving, demanding his ouster even after a loss in a regular season game. But despite this, Coach Yturri managed to churn out winning records for the franchise every year.

Seeing the Blazers falter anew to the Red Lions, and seeing the anguish in Magpayo, Capati, and Welcoat coach Carlos Garcia at the back of the CSB bench were enough signs to see that they need more than just motivation, they need leadership. Sagad, Reyes, and Orbeta are the only bright spots in the team but the rest of the sophomores like Abad, Sanidad, and Good can only do so much.

I just hope that Coach Yturri can turn this team around before or after their dismal performance in the first round.

asan nga pala si stan aldover? yung dating ateneo blue eaglet standout i heard na sa csb daw yun maglalaro (i think i saw this in one of the threads here in pex) i saw the game of benilde and beda kanina ang sakit sa mata panoorin ng game ng benilde grabe walang energy and lack of quality players si orbeta lang yung inaasahan nila...i think d lang nsa coach yung problem but with the kind of players benilde has right now d malayong mangyari na maging 0-14 sila this season

i was at courtside yesterday and when coach yturri scolded (for the lack of a better term but from the looks of it, the player was indeed scolded) one of his players, the player also talked back at coach yturri. coach yturri immediately grabbed the player's jersey and said some things then the player sat down in disgust.

coach yturri's facial expression during the course of the game was a pity; yung tipong iniisip mo na sana tapos na yung laro

Jul 22, 2004, 06:29 PM
A player talking back at the coach? Hmm, looks like Coach Yturri's brand of mouthwash isn't working. Too much badmouthing can be hazardous to any player's health. :glee:

Disappointing as it is, we just have to roll with the punches this season. :D

input lang, just want to point out that this is not the 1st time Yturri was the coach of csb, he coached csb before the team made it to the ncaa. it was the time that they competed in such leagues as ncraa and university games. share ko lang. and the coaching style of yturri maybe okay pero the wayh he treats his players iba talaga. mejo nakakademoralize ng player. unlike coach dong vergeire. just my opinion.

Minsan nanood ako sa Rizal and was seated behind the CSB bench. I saw how Yturri would castigate and scold his players. Every one seated behind the bench could see kung paano napapahiya o nai-insulto yung player. Maybe Yturri didn't intended it as such.

correct! considering the number of star players he has on his welcoat team, di pa rin nya maipanalo ang team nya! pano pa kaya ang benilde na halos walang star player sa line-up niya!

I think it's a good strategy on CSB's part to take in an alumni as coach so that it can muster school pride and morale for the team. But given a short track record in coaching, he may have to do better than just to hone coaching skills with the players and grow with them. Who knows if the gamble pays off! :D

good strategy? i don't think so... if you really want to win, you have to get the BEST availble players and coaching staff alumnus or not.. one good example is Joel Banal of ADMU. before they didn't want him.. nun nag champion, halos ayaw na nila paalisin..

Nope. By the way, I saw coach Caloy with the assistant coaches last night and confirmed the news for myself. I also sought their assistance and influence on the matter of the csb pep squad kasi dissolved na at ang mga sumasayaw mostly eh Footworks. No offense sa official dance org ng CSB but I think we need an indepedent cheering squad to keep the traditions from Lasalle and uplift the school spirit. :D

The news about Caloy Garcia being the new coach of Benilde has to be true. The school and Welcoat announced that they will partner during the coming PBL season. To make it official, the administration has to announce the appointment of Caloy Garcia as the new coach for Benilde.

What happened to the Fil-Am recruits of coach Yturri? There is a rumor going around that a former coach with ties to LaSalle is directing his Fil-Am recruits to play for his old alma mater and not the school where he previously coached. Last time I checked, Luigi Trillo and Yturri were the only active college coaches in the NCAA and UAAP who have ties with LaSalle. Interesting development considering the brother of Luigi is now the team manager of Ateneo.

True, but the squad has been dissolved since their dismal performance last year and with internal and outside problems hounding the squad, last year's batch of cheerleaders are disbanded because they lack the cohesiveness, competence and unity which has been a trademark of the squad for 8 years. As an alumni of the squad, I feel that I a have a responsibility to uphold the traditions and a lot of my fellow alumni will appeal to the SDO of the school to create and train a new batch of cheerleaders and drummers. Less of the glitz and glamour but more on the grind and hard work. :D

dismal performance last year? di naman siguro.. yun last place finish ng pep squad last year was i think due to one of the ladies had a heart attack during the performance.. ofcourse this hampered their routine right? yung internal problems matagal na yan i think kahit nun nasa CSB pa ako.. hehehehe!

good luck to you! sana din maisip ng CSB na ang PEP squad or any other cheerleading group is an integral part of any school. kahit naman yata sa public school meron silang pinagmamalaking cheerleaders di ba?

anyways back to the topic.. meron po bang tournaments (aside from the PBL) or tune up games ang CSB? medyo matagal na akong di nakakapanood ng games ng CSB eh.. hehehehe! also i want to see the team perform under caloy garcia.

Anyway, back to the topic guys... Buti nga at napalitan yang CSB coach. Wala kasi si Tunichi na recruiting influence.

List of CSB players in my humble opinion na "may talent"

1. Orbeta
2. Sagad

Nakakahiya performance natin. From greatness to nothing.

Bakit ba kasi inalis si Dong Vergiere in the 1st place??? Nanugrakot daw?!?!?!?!

Good work CSB officials!!! Out with the old and in with Caloy Garcia. If he disappoints us, his balls will be fried just like what happenned to Yturri. Tignan niyo??? Commentator na lang siya ngayon... Wahahahaha!!!

What happened to you guys??? Sayang kayo!!!

Get your act right guys!!!

Be proud, Be green, Be heard!!!!!!!!

I do hope that Coach Caloy can do better with the Blazers compared with the previous coach. The SDO paid the price for bringing him back to the team. He coached the Blazers during the NCRAA days but he never achieved anything significant other than a decent 3rd place finish.

headliner - what happened to the squad? you can ask the previous members and officers of the squad, not the alumni pep because a lot of us were extending our hands to the bereaved members but they were not responding, mainly because we were on the outside and they were still inside, under the influence of the SDO. In short, the SDO people didn't need us alumni and they just want to use them for their own selfish reasons. Suppressed as a student, misguided as a cheerleader. :D
