We all want it in our lives, the fairy tale. We all want to believe that it is true and not just some stories our mothers used to tell us just before bedtime. Love. It never fails to give me butterflies whenever I try to think about it. It’s the one thing that can give us the greatest joy or so much pain. It gets thrown around more than your favorite wrestling hero gets. And is probably the most misunderstood word in the dictionary. Sometimes, we need to be in love so badly that as one Taoist saying goes… When the need is too strong, everyone becomes a possibility. People often claim to be in love whenever they are involved with somebody and oftentimes, they are convinced that it is the one! That what they have is what every hopeless romantic is looking for. What every mushy love song has ever been written about (Got to believe in magic) and what every great poet throughout the ages have dedicated verses after verses to. Of course the problem is, it doesn’t last forever. And when it does end, they are left wondering what went wrong. So many of us get burned so badly that we are so scared to give it another try! So what we do is settle for someone who is good enough or safe enough, so we know we would not be hurt again. Now we no longer want someone to grow with, but just someone to grow old with. And the older we get, the less we believe in the fairy tale. It’s just children’s stories after all! We just stop believing. I remember this one line from a movie, which was said by a young girl to this scientist who was looking for the Loch Ness monster and was having a most difficult time. She said “Sometimes you have to believe it before you can see it!” Well, the movie ended of course with the scientist being able to see Nessie. I do understand why people do not believe in the magic anymore. It’s because it’s safer that way. It gives us a reason to settle down and live a predictable, no surprises kinda life. I know it’s kinda difficult to handle surprises sometimes but this attitude also shuts out the possibility that there just might be some real magic out there!
If only love can be so easily defined and understood. You know? Have it down to a set of guidelines we all can follow. Wouldn’t that make our lives so much easier? Most of the friends I know who have been in love or have claimed to have found the magic, all had one common denominator. This I know is something you can also observe in other people as well. And it is something that would guarantee failure in any relationship. They all forgot to think, to use their heads! Come to think of it, it is kinda hard to think when you’re feeling so high and your head is up in the clouds. Which of course is the usual state most people are in, when they are in love. At least during the initial stages of it.
What fascinates me really is why so many people believe that love is exclusively the domain of the heart! And that the intellect has got no place in it at all. Why, even the expressions that we use to describe our state when we are in love clearly shows this. Expressions like; I’m crazy about you. Or I’m head over heels in love with you. I know that love transcends the intellect but to transcend means to go beyond your intellect, not abandon it! There is a fine line between them although on the surface, they seem the same. And what is this term “true love” that I hear all the time? Why, is there such a thing as false love? That term is redundant because honey, if it ain’t true, it ain’t love! All this just goes to show how little we understand the concept. Why, I happen to know a lot of people who are so smart and yet when they are in love (or so they claim), they just cannot seem to make heads or tails of the whole thing. Perfectly clueless, especially when things start to get rough. Ask yourselves this. How many girl friends do you know, you think are really wonderful, but for some weird freaky reason, ends up with a total jerk! They get themselves pregnant and abandoned and comes out of it a total wreck if they ever get out of it at all! They get treated like **** and loose their self-respect but still clings on to their partner for reasons that would defy all rules of logic! I think the thing with people who are involved with someone is that they do not know when to call it quits. So what they do is they hold on to what they have, even though the only direction that it’s going is down, and the only destination they are headed for is nowhere. Not enough will to call a spade a spade, they continue the lie until that is the only thing that they know. Sometimes, people feel that they have invested too much of themselves into the relationship already and do not want to see it all go to waste. And what happens? They are the ones who end up wasting away instead! Others con themselves into believing that they can learn to love someone so decides to stick it out with who ever they choose to sustain that lie with. A lie told a thousand times become true. Any lie that we keep up will be true to us without a doubt! I personally believe that life is too short to spend with the wrong person. And I would rather be alone for the right reason, than to be with somebody for the wrong one. And still others end up together more out of habit than love. As in the case of people who have known each other for a long time.
That is the problem with people. When they are in love, the first thing that gets thrown out the window is their mind! What happens is they try to replace their intellect and use their emotions as a cognitive tool instead. Your emotions can only tell you how badly you want something but it cannot tell you why you want it. If you let your emotions take control, you will be blinder than a bat in broad daylight. The only difference would be the fact that bats can rely on sonar. I don’t think your emotions can be as effective. The validity of your love should be based on reason and not the strength of your emotions. On reality and not on intensity. To do otherwise would be psycho-emotional suicide!
Why is it that people seem to believe that the less they understand the nature and origin of their emotions and the less they are aware of it, the more magical it’s supposed to be? Haven’t you heard of that old cliché as to why the head is located above the heart? Without reason to guide your decisions and actions, and your emotions on hyperdrive, you would have better chances of winning the lottery or getting struck by lightning twice on the same spot than finding your destiny! Ah… yes, another gravely misunderstood concept. Can somebody please tell me why people find helplessness so freaking romantic? How does that famous song go again? “For I believe that destiny is out of our control”. The reason why destiny is so inevitable is because it is absolutely determined by the in/actions and in/decisions that we make! It’s not because some overbearing supreme entity is playing some weir

I find it especially hard to find somebody I can really love. I'm more than just 21 years old. But in all this time I've been alive, I've fallen for only two women.

Before I met the second woman, there was an interval of about 4 years. Unfortunately, that woman is now taken as well.


But I'm happy because I even though I know that I'll never find women like those just anyplace, I do know that it's a matter of faith in God, and that he wants me to be happy, and that he is just preparing the right one for me.

And that is why I can go on, being my own very happy self.

I'll just wait for God to bring the magic back in my life. And no matter how long it takes, no matter how far I travel or how much I wait, in the end, everything will be worth God's gift.
