Here is a poem from my favorite poet, Rainer Maria Rilke:

Love Song

How can I keep my soul in me, so that
it doesn't touch your soul? How can I raise
it high enough, past you, to other things?
I would like to shelter it, among remote
lost objects, in some dark and silent place
that doesn't resonate when your depths resound.
Yet everything that touches us, me and you,
takes us together like a violin's bow,
which draws one voice out of two seperate strings.
Upon what instrument are we two spanned?
And what musician holds us in his hand?
Oh sweetest song.

Translated by Stephen Mitchell

thanks that was great. not really into poetry but if i had to get started on it, rilke would be on the top of my list. don't have any of his compilations though. i think the only book of poetry that i actually own is by baudelaire.

There are also some great virtual "love" postcards in:
http://www.just-so.com

Excerpts from poems, short stories, and novels are combined with great works of art. Check it out. Maybe your valentine will also appreciate one.

thanks again for that wonderful website. i actually sent an anonymous postcard to this girl i work with. i chose a tsvetaeva poem. it seems appropriate considering that she doesn't even know i exist.
