Sa local scene, I think it's doing great now, coz we're getting to hear more diverse sounds from the bands. Salamat sa indie scene, hindi takot mag-experiment ang mga banda ngayon, unlike before na at the mercy palagi ng record companies.
Sa international scene naman, I dunno, but I still prefer the classics. After the grunge era, parang wala na. I can't think of a rock song that's currently making waves now that could be considered a classic ten years after.
Just my opinion, folks. :)

A lot of bands are experimenting and turning old-school now... The Darkness, for example... glam na glam! The Vines/Strokes, classic punk cum grunge...
Incubus is returning to their thrash-funk roots too! And for the local scene, AT LAST VOCALISTS STARTED SINGING RATHER THAN RAPPING GODDAMMIT! Kiss the rap/metal age goodbye!!!

Ako may cd ng first album ng Days of the new.
I bet that 311 is the contender for modern rock act ,kahit na mas sikat dito sa pinas ang Incubus,311 started that rap+rock+reggae way back in the early 90's before the grunge era erupted during the reign of Kurt Cobain and the grunge bands from Seattle. The Vines are also great, they maintain that old school touch of their music especially the album Highly Evolved w/c I also have at home.Back to 311,their frist major album Music wasn't released worldwide but luckily I got one. :D Once you try listening to 311,you'll easily get the idea how the turntable got its share on rock performers.Oh in addition before Limp and Stinkin Park jumped into the bandwagon 311 was already using the turntable and also our very own Francis M during the hip hop hurray days.So for those who claim that Stinkin Park or Limp started those scratch'n noise sorry but they are misinformed.
Those who are interested for the Days of the new cd and 311's first album you may send me a private message. Maroon 5 is also good ,I'm just crossin my fingers that they won't be suffering the Sugar Ray syndrome. If you know what I'm talking about.

there are a lot of great bands out there who ARE more talented than the ones in the mainstream...saan na ang mga bands katuald ng LIVE?
SoliduS_AlphA
Apr 22, 2004, 02:18 PM
Live has released an album last year. Suede released a greatest hits double cd. Yes The Darkness sounded like glam and it impressed me a bit but rock music is still struggling here in the Philippines thanks to the promotion of bullshlt radio stations w/c destroys the airwaves and that non-sense taiwanese boybands w/c ruined the music scene.Rock music could have progressed if not for that intervention of those poser acoustic crap.

Na feel ko babalik na yung rock scene maybe late 2004 or sa 2005 im sure buhay nanaman ang mga banda.

I feel that its best that Rock artists right now stay indie para pure..
kaya everyone of us should have its support: buy their EPs, watch gigs (don't crash pay for the tickets) and don't buy pirated CDs lalo na sa bangketa sa re_to :glee: buy directly to the artists themselves tingnan natin kundi nagboom ang indie
rock scene.
pano pa ba?
kung gusto nila masign sa label para mas malawak pa makarinig sa kanila eh di.. syempre dapat makinig sila sa mga record execs pero malamang macompromise at may mabago.
pasensya na sa babble hehe

i think the white stripes is ahead of other "rock" bands right now, hopefully, they`d be appreciated there in the phil..i think this band is one for the ages, comes once in every generation..i really like this band, puting soul back in rock, with a mixture of old school blues, garage and and a liitle bit of country..they are great channelers of rock music..`the big three killed my baby``damn, that song is awesome..anyways, i lyk the strokes too, the vines are cool and the jet..queen of the stoneage, pin up girls, the hives..many more..jcak white rules though..peaceout..

hm
sad how local "hiphop"-ers try too hard to dress, sound, talk, think and ultimately BE like their idols. "southeast-side represent!" hehe.
i wish we had local rock bands who dress up like...say...manson or something. hehe. or meron ba? na di ko lang alam?

Linkin Park is a rock poser, trying hard magpaka

I think it's just around the corner, dami rock bands naglalabasan ngayon eh. The good thing is -- iba-iba ang sounds. Marami experiment....so hinde monotonous.

ako din.. glory days yung mid-90's, that era spawned a lot of breakthrough artists and genres.. sa foreign scene, *** grunge act nina kurt cobain, stp, soundgarden, smashing pumpkins, etc tpos mga neo-alternative/female acts nina tori amos, bjork, ani difranco.. then it was also the formative days of a lot of noteworthy punk-influenced bands that we have now like incubus, 311, etc etc.. andun pa *** political angst ng rage against the machine.. sa local scene naman, classic ang wolfgang, razorback, eheads, andun pa yung suggar hiccup, color it red, cynthia alexander.. etc etc..

Right now though, I'm liking the White Stripes a lot. Bluesy, folksy...weird. Lolz.

the best era kasi ng music was in the 90's talaga.I like listening to classic punk like Ramones,The Clash and their neo counterparts like Greenday,Offspring,Rancid and also ska bands like Mighty2 Bosstones, the Skalleluia album and Reel Big Fish. Some classic rock acts like The Rolling Stones and my very unsung hero Jim Morrison.

but yes, i agree...the 90's was the best era...cant forget those G&R, Alice in Chains, Stone Temple Pilots, Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, Greenday, Nirvana, Metallica, Placebo, Silverchair, Mansun, etc days...hay...they were the best!
it seems that rock music now has become an evolution of diff types of genre..mixed and matched...and frustratingly, overplayed in the mainstream...
:) anyway, keep rock alive!

Hmmm thats true but they tried mixing in and that album is one pure blast for me and some songs also were inspired by The Ramones, the sound of the guitar sounds like a fushion of The Clash and Ramones.Ofcourse The Clash are one of the greatest artist in the punk genre but its the Ramones I prefer. :) Well we differ from taste but most of them came from one root, punk.Nakakapanghinayang lang The Clash kasi di sila nagtagal but their achievement in the music bizz was very influential same with the Ramones. The Clash were awesome in terms of energy and crowd appeal, while the Ramones are more the easy go hey dude attittude.

System of a down has the big potential to revive the rock scene, medyo kulang lang sa media promotion, given na yung talent nila.
Incubus,another great band.Not yet enough....
though they're almost here.
311-People are so confused with their music, its reggae.
Maroon5-wag lang sila magkaroon ng Sugar Ray syndrome.
Mudvayne- I'm no fan of them but they are also talented.Especially their bassist and drummer.
Staind-more...more....effort...They are good but they tend to become a singles chart topper
July for kings- good band but they're getting into Matchbox 20's shadow.
RHCP-just keep on rocking Flea and co.,I know
you're the biggest band right now.The only problem lies within the listeners.

matagal na kilala ang 311 (my first encounter of them playing on mtv in 1996 the song was down)before pa yang 50 first dates, tell you frankly meron ako 1st album ng 311 w/c is not available here in the Phil. Tool madami rin silang fans, check out some PEX thread
and see for yuorself. And there's no such thing as rap metal, rap-rock would be more appropriate.
Isama mo na ako sa few people na nakakakilala sa kanila since 1996.Imagine that it took 8 yeard bago sila makilala ng iba.And our local band Cheese w/c I had a chance to interview over NU107 in 1999 admitted that they were influenced by 311.Now
its materializing in Cheese' album Pilipinas.

in the U.S., rock scene is verry much alive. with the bands like the white stripes, the strokes, the vines and the hives leading the way, back here in the phil. those type music are not yet accepted bcos most so-called local rock fans doesnt know what rock music is all about, w/c is basically about the `soul' of the music. its not abwt being dramatic(emo), or being whiny(punk). its abwt feeling it. im nt against any forms of music but put a soul in it, a good one, and u`ll dfinitely be apreciated by `true' rock fans..i`m just being a white stripes die hard fan..peace and GOD Bless..

quote]Audioslave did good[/quote]
i beg to disagree. they broke my heart. :(
the indie scene is healthy right now, and the good thing is that eevryone is going indie nowadays :rocker: ang saya di ba?
sa mga foreign bands naman, yung british scene yung medyo nagkakaroon ng leeway kasi parang kahit sino na lang basta me british accent akal nila cool na. coldplay was the last british band i liked pero after parachutes, everything ended. radiohead, led zep at beatles ang dabest na rakenrol band na british.
perfect circle/tool pa rin ako. di ko pa masyado naririnig ang the darkness pero pakiramdam ko lang marami na namang gagaya sa led zep nito  history is repeating itself. cool yung the vines/the strokes pero ang lupit ng the white stripes. raw and unadulterated. :rocker:
salamat at tapos na yung tinatawag nilang
(c)rap metal. in fairness, innovative sana nung una eh (rage against the machine days) kasi nadevelop nila yung sound na inumpisahan ng Run DMC-Aerosmith. kaso lang dumating sa point na lahat na lang puro ganun yung tugtugan, tapos puro growl na lang maririrnig mo. isa na lang yung peste sa rakenrol scene nito. yung mga bandang mala blink182 yung tunog (good charlotte et. al) na akala nila punk sila pero hindi. sencia na baka me good charlotte fans dito. :sorry:
saka nga pala, kindly tell ms avril lavigne that punk is not all about wearing black and acting wild in front of the camera. anlayo kasi sa punk credo ng mga ginagawa ng mga punk ngayon eh. real punks go against the system.
yun lang. eonneon, naguulat. :D

Rock is too vague. Somehow it's easier to specify artists/groups that are adding value to the current "rock" scene.
I don't claim that these groups are rock, but they sound great as heck to me:
The Hives
Allister
Forty Foot Echo
Midtown
Reel Big Fish
A Perfect Circle
In any case, just as one band dies down, there's always a ton of other bands just waiting to take their place.
OT: To anybody who knows where I can find a copy of the Squid 9 album, PM me.

i dressed up like manson before and ppl hated it *lol* not that i care, i just got tired of the HR side of being a band that isn't with your friends.
anyway, as for the music now? ... to put it plainly, it sucks.
i like one song from lemons and oranges and the last cd i got was from dashboard confessional (a week ago). prior to that, i ddnt purchase anything for 2 years, not even a pirated something.... yes, that is how much albums suck nowadays... there are only singles worth listening to, and singles are better downloaded than bought together with the album.

weird...but i see some improvement in the rock scene...these past two years...it seems like people are starting to be appreciate better music as the average listener starts to gain better musical tastes...the new albums found in record stores possess more diversity musically...some bands or acts have incorporated new stuff to the usuals heard...well...creativity has somehow been underlined once again...save several acts...especially that local band whose name rhymes and sounds like cliche...hint hint...and those similar to that mindless act...

opm rock right now is reaching the phase of over saturation(o nareach na ba?) ,once you couldnt tell who's or which band is singing a song, may problema na. honestly, i couldn't distinguish 6cyclemind from callalily, or callalily from blue ketchup etc so on so on.i beg to disagree that our rock scene today is doing fine.it did, well, early 2000, but now you have a bunch of rockstar wannabes that has songs that even a 2nd grader can write.
i can name a few really notewrothy sort of new opm bands... early sugarfree, pupil, jr kilat, urbandub, and itchyworms. the rest are plain, bland, mediocre.
thank god the korn, limpbizkit etc era is gone.
i miss grunge.
