Ano bang pinagkaiba ng management engineering sa iba pang engineering? Could someone elaborate pls?
Can anyone post here a typical Mgt. Eng. curriculum?

baka IE with less Statitics but more management subjects. Alam ko I.E. marami stat subjects, e. Around 9 or 10, kasama Operations Research, I dunno, really.

Ateneo will have a run of its money.......thanks to CEU. Eh di kapag di makapasa sa Ateneo, CEU is the best option. Sisiw lang ata makapasok sa CEU.
I won't be surprised if CEU will have Engineering courses like Chem. Eng'r, Electronics Comm. Eng'r (ECE) & the like...........

siguro it needs to be clarified that ME is not really an engineering course. it's foundations are still rooted in management. However, the course is more math-intensive than Ateneo's BS Mgt.

I don't think CEU will ever be a fallback for those who can't make it to Ateneo. There's still DLSU.

That’s real big crap!!!
There are approximately 5,000 high schools all over the Philippines and the Ateneo's ME program can only accommodate 150 students (more or less) in a year. You do the math.
As far as I know or every one knows, there are only two high schools in the country that has this trend to regularly send their vales to the Ateneo's ME program, Xavier School and ICA, and both are Jesuits run. But there were years though where the trend has been halted. For instance, last year's vale of ICA went to UP Diliman and majored BS Psychology while Xavier's vale went to the National University of Singapore.
Generally, other than these two High Sschools, most vales from all over the country are in UP enrolling in different campuses majoring in different courses. Even Ateneo's own vales (Manila, CdO, Davao, Naga) have a preference to enroll in UP than in their own college. And for a long, long time now, the vales (as well as those in the top 10) of the prestigious, La Salle Greenhills are in UP (Diliman and Manila, particularly).
There are bright students in Ateneo but they are generally academically inferior to the UP students. Most, if not all of them did not pass the UPCAT and that is the reason why they all ended up there.

You know what guys, I was once obsessed with that topic especially during my younger years in college, Im an incoming senior right now and at this summer, I applied for a job in line with my course and was accepted. Although i concluded that I am far better than my co-student workers in terms of communication and some sort of knwledges, I know that some of them are still better than me in the line of our field.
But to CEU congrats....
I know they are one of the most underrated Uni in Manila, but I believed in their standards...

Sa Oxford University merong MEng na course and the program runs for 4 years. This is the nearest equivalent to Ateneo's ME program.
Oxford U, just like the Ateneo, is a highly selective university. An applicant needs to present 3 As in all A-Levels before his/her application will be entertained.

I am not here to refute your beliefs/convictions, but you erred on the following "facts" which you presented in your case:
a. Immaculate Conception Academy (ICA) is NOT Jesuit-run. Before you start using evidences, kindly ascertain the veracity of your facts first.
b. Secondly, I am not inclined to buying in your argument regarding the valedictorians of provincial Jesuit high schools, i.e. Ateneo de Naga, Davao, CdO, etc. Being an alumnus of one of those schools, I know for a fact where the valedictorians and salutatorians of my own high school have been enrolling for their college degrees - and I've been monitoring that every year. Our valedictorian (circa 1998) is currently an Instructor at the Ateneo's Department of Filipino. I know where the other valedictorians for the succeeding five years have enrolled.
There is what we call "care" and "due diligence" in presenting facts. But then again, this is cyberspace, and people can abuse their privilege to self expression under the cloak of anonymity.

Stand up for what you posted.
1. Recheck your facts.
- Are you sure that ICA is Jesuit-run?
- Are you sure your number for the approximate number of High Schools is precise?
2. Is what you know really, what"everyone knows?"
3. Expound on your self-declared "trend." I'd like to see names and stats please.
4. How accurate is this statement: "Generally, other than these two High Sschools, most vales from all over the country are in UP enrolling in different campuses majoring in different courses." Since you seem to be such an expert, I suggest you show everyone here.
5. Just how prestigious is lsgh, when say, compared to Ateneo de Manila High School, Xavier, and Southridge? How would you even qualify and/or quantify prestige?
6. PROVE (beyond reasonable doubt) your assertion: "There are bright students in Ateneo but they are generally academically inferior to the UP students. Most, if not all of them did not pass the UPCAT and that is the reason why they all ended up there." In doing so, you may wish to explain to us the criteria you will be using. Will you be judging based on academic standards of the high schools these students came from? On IQ? I'd like you to show me the numbers. Oh, and do cite your sources.

Okay, it’s not. But it is a sectarian school.
- Are you sure your number for the approximate number of High Schools is precise?
Didn’t I say, ‘approximately’? Don't you know what the word, 'approximate' means?
2. Is what you know really, what "everyone knows?"
I presume, unless everyone is unaware on certain facts.
3. Expound on your self-declared "trend." I'd like to see names and stats please.
It would be simply daft to grant that wish. If you doubt the ‘trend’, go check the facts yourself.
4. How accurate is this statement: "Generally, other than these two High Schools, most vales from all over the country are in UP enrolling in different campuses majoring in different courses." Since you seem to be such an expert, I suggest you show everyone here.
So, you care about UP stats? Here’s an example in my batch:
Block A with 40 students has 23 valedictorians, 7 salus and the rest are in the upper quartile in their respective high schools. I doubt if there’s any group of students (class) in Ateneo that can match that impressive stat. and, hey! I am only talking of the BIO course. I suppose there are more vales in the BA, BAA, Econ, BE, Psych, Archi and CS programs. And the INTARMED of UP Manila, the ultimate, ultimate vale sucker program of all.
5. Just how prestigious is lsgh, when say, compared to Ateneo de Manila High School, Xavier, and Southridge? How would you even qualify and/or quantify prestige?
LSGH is very prestigious. Ateneo de Manila HS is prestigious. Xavier School is prestigious only in the NCR area. Is Southridge in Hillsborough, Paranaque prestigious? Do you have the stats of Southridge?
My bases are both the UPCAT and the ACET.
There are a lot of UP students who passed the ACET but they all chose to enroll in UP because it is obviously the better uni. There are quite a few Ateneo students who have taken the UPCAT and passed in either Diliman or Manila.
Again, in our block of 40 students, 33 took the ACET and passed it. The remaining 7 didn’t bother to take it. Ateneo does not seem to be an attractive uni to them. 2 of the 7 were from CSA, BTW.
Number of applicants in UP Diliman & Manila campuses: 68+ thousand
Number of students passed: 3,400 in Diliman, 880 in Manila
Admitted applicants enrolled: 3,341 in Diliman, 869 in Manila
Number of Applicants in ADMU: 11+ thousand
Number of Applicants admitted: 2,840
Admitted applicants enrolled: 1,304

the vales of de davao and cdo are almost always found in diliman and manila campuses of UP. For example, the 2000 vale of de davao went to UP Mass Com while the vale of cdo enrolled in the school of economics.
well, there may be some exemptions in few instances. but i'm sure that there are more vales of ateneo hss who opted to go to UP for college than in their own. sorry to break this to you. i know this is but a sad truth to diehard ateneans like you.

Good save.

Is it PRECISE? That is, to the degree that one can actually make a decision with confidence? (Perhaps you can show, say, a probability distribution.)
I presume, unless everyone is unaware on certain facts.
What facts? Expound.
Oh, about your presumption--that's not good enough. I want the stats.
It would be simply daft to grant that wish. If you doubt the ‘trend’, go check the facts yourself.
Can't you present these yourself? You seem to be awfully knowledgable. Unless, of course, you've got nothing to present.
So, you care about UP stats? Here’s an example in my batch:

1. What High Schools are these?
2. How do they fare vis-a-vis their peers in other universities?
And that's one block in one batch. Where's the trend? Where's your generalization?
LSGH is very prestigious. Ateneo de Manila HS is prestigious. Xavier School is prestigious only in the NCR area. Is Southridge in Hillsborough, Paranaque prestigious? Do you have the stats of Southridge?
Define prestige. Quantify. Qualify.
My bases are both the UPCAT and the ACET.
There are a lot of UP students who passed the ACET but they all chose to enroll in UP because it is obviously the better uni. There are quite a few Ateneo students who have taken the UPCAT and passed in either Diliman or Manila.
Statistics for this please. Show me the trend. Show us your sources.
Again, in our block of 40 students, 33 took the ACET and passed it. The remaining 7 didn’t bother to take it. Ateneo does not seem to be an attractive uni to them. 2 of the 7 were from CSA, BTW.
Again, one block, in one batch. Where's the trend? And their degree of passing the ACET was? Did they all get their first choices?
Number of applicants in UP Diliman & Manila campuses: 68+ thousand
Number of students passed: 3,400 in Diliman, 880 in Manila
Admitted applicants enrolled: 3,341 in Diliman, 869 in Manila
Number of Applicants in ADMU: 11+ thousand
Number of Applicants admitted: 2,840
Admitted applicants enrolled: 1,304
Tell me, where did your valedictorian study in college?
Please state your sources. And this is for one batch. WHERE IS THE TREND?
Furthermore, you have to still pursue:
1. Qualify your assertion, "There are bright students in Ateneo but they are generally academically inferior to the UP students. Most, if not all of them did not pass the UPCAT and that is the reason why they all ended up there." You have presented no evidence of academic superiority, nor qualified any sufficient criteria.
2. Establish a trend from which we can make confident judgement. Again, I suggest a probability distribution (or several, if you'd like). Is your block really a representative sampling of the entire UP population? Or even the entire batch, for that matter?
As for our valedictorian, he's currently in the Ateneo pursuing his ME degree. The two salutatorians are also in the Ateneo. One is taking up Social Sciences, if I'm not mistaken, and the other one has a special track in Chemistry.

Your prior argument (by including Naga) has collapsed. Take note, in advancing evidences, you can't be lousy in inserting names, terms, etc., otherwise, no one will believe you. And what have you done? You've simply downplayed the significance of your inclusion of Naga by saying "you must have graduated from naga then". The point is, why include Naga at all in your first argument, when you knew that the fact you claimed about it wasn't true at all!?!"
In your next argument, you are again making a generalization based on facts from a single year - 2000! What if I say that having lived in Ateneo's Cervini Residence Hall, I've come to know as friends the vales of CdO in 1997 and 1998 (my dorm roommate), the salus of CdO in 1997 and 1998 (an acquaintance of mine back in college), the vales of Davao in 1997 and 1998 (another friend who is currently with P&G Singapore), the vale and salu of Zambo in 1998 (both are my friends), the vales and salu of Naga in 2001 (all of whom are my friends), etc.
Again, I respect your belief. But in the world where I am coming from, everything (literally everything) must be quantified. Yet in your argument, you only mentioned a year (a sample) and applied the conclusion to an entire population. Statistically, it would seem to me that the guys you mentioned (in 2000) represent the stochastic disturbance term for a regression function.
And oh, before I forget, I have to colleagues who were the vales of LSGH in their respective batches (both of them graduated Magna Cum Laude from the Ateneo). As far as I know, these two colleagues aren't the "intellectually inferior" guys you've described and compared to your UP friends in your first argument.

UP and ateneo claim so many vales and salus that the lie has to be with the alleged toppers themselves.

both atenean_blooded and Lek-lek are lying. No vale would ever enter the halls of loyola because that would be a degrading move for him.

cite the years they graduated from LSGH.
Again, The Ateneo students are generally academically inferior to the UP students. This is a fact that everybody knows. My father knows this even before I was born. My mom knows this even before she married my dad and migrated to the philippines. my brothers know this. our maids know this. all my dad's staff knows this. again, everyone knows this. And if you contest to this, it's either you are grossly insecure or you are lying.
Ateneo is an okay uni. i don't question that. but for someone who believes ateneo is academically better than UP is perverse. stop the day dreaming my ateneo comrades. better yet, work hard for your school so that someday, may be someday, your beloved school might be included in the APRU and would rank higher than DLSU in any credible ranking league.
Here's the fact:
the best university in the Philippines is UP. CHED, Asiaweek and APRU can back this claim of mine. DLSU comes next. ADMU is only third.
Peace.

I am sorry but I only participate in a discussion where logic and the rules of civility apply.
Since DURHAM refuses to engage in the manner which I have offered (and that is the plain use of evidence), then I am sorry, but I can't further participate in this sort of discussion.
Anyway, since you seem to "represent" yourself as an LSGH alumnus, try knowing who the vales were for the years 1992 and 1998.

Logic has failed here. Your failure to produce any quantitative and scientifically-garnered qualitative proof or data other than, of course, the occasional insertions which Lek-Lek pointed out earlier, for what little merit they have simply causes all your statements to collapse.
Hasty generalizations. Poisoning the well. Classical logical FAILURES.
