Si Arnold Vegafria ang manager ng singer na si Jay-R, ang bagong image model ng Bench underwear. Sa pamamagitan ni Arnold, sinubukan ng isang staff member ng S-Files na imbitahan si Jay-R para sa summer episode ng nabanggit na show. Ang kapwa Bench underwear endorser na si Wendell Ramos ang makakasama sana ni Jay-R sa summer episode.

Tumanggi si Arnold. Ang katwiran niya, hindi magka-level sina Jay-R at Wendell dahil sexy actor ito. Singer daw si Jay-R at makikita lamang ito na nakasuot ng underwear sa mga advertisement ng Bench. Sinabi pa ni Arnold na hayaang maglaway ang mga tao kay Jay-R!

Tama si Arnold. Hindi nga magka-level sina Jay-R at Wendell dahil mas marami nang napatunayan sa showbiz si Wendell, bukod pa sa pagkakaroon nito ng magandang PR. Hindi pa rin nararanasan ni Wendell na ma-reject sa Japanese Immigration.

As one of the mainstays of the popular gag show “Bubble Gang,” Wendell Ramos has showed great range as a comedic actor. His timing is perfect and his knack for physical comedy is equally impeccable.


But what maybe separates Wendell from the current crop of comic actors around is, for one, he’s quite easy on the eyes compared to his contemporaries; and second, and more importantly, Wendell does not limit himself to zingy one-liners and has become one of the most sought-after sexy character actors of his generation. If anybody should say that Wendell has the makings of the next Albert Martinez, chances are that person knows what he is talking about.


An online Filipino entertainment magazine said this about Wendell when he landed on its list of 12 Sexiest in Showbiz: “The fellow smells clean and looks gorgeous. The eyes can be woeful, yet tease. While the mouth, sinfully red and full, often part in boyish gurgle. And the body: girls take a second look; gays drop dead. His is a well scrubbed sexiness-which often is the more insidious and, unfortunately for his prey, lethal.”


Born Wendell Xavier Ramos on August 18, 1978, Wendell was discovered while watching a collegiate basketball match at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium in Manila. With top starbuilder Douglas Quijano as manager, Wendell soon found himself on the spotlight and under the klieg lights.


His first foray into the exciting yet demanding world of showbusiness was a role in the Gelli de Belen-starrer, “Taguan.” He played a balikbayan, all slangy and hip-hoppy, who’s smitten with Gelli.


After a couple of teenybopper roles, he joined “Bubble Gang.” His languid gaze and ready boyish smile easily conveys a sensuous innocence. With his fresh-faced good looks, Wendell radiates that healthy balance of coyness and sexy confidence. Traits that undoubtedly made him stand out among the cast of the hit comedy show.


So striking was his presence that even Bench honcho Ben Chan took notice. "We included Wendell in our stable of endorsers even before he became big and established,” Mr. Chan disclosed in an interview. “We included him in some of our pictorials and dressed him up in some TV guestings and movies. As he became more marked in the industry, the more frequent we had him for pictorials and guestings. As the demand for him increased, the more he became visible as endorser. Wendell certainly has become very popular and I'm so glad to think that he started with us!"


Things took a turn for the better when Wendell was cast in Joel Lamangan’s controversial “Hubog” opposite erstwhile Herbench image model Assunta de Rossi. It offered Wendell a chance to explore and showcase the more serious and mature actor in him.


Roles in other sexy vehicles soon followed--- “Gamitan” with Maui Taylor, “Bedtime Stories” with Maricar de Mesa, “Two-Timer” with Ara Mina, “Sex Drive” with Katya Santos and Maui Taylor.


"Wendell has gone through a marvelous transformation as a serious actor with a remarkable amount of daring and intensity," said his “Bedtime Stories” director Maryo J. delos Reyes. It was delos Reyes who first saw the intensity in Wendell’s eyes and transformed the former teen actor into a performer with depth in the movie, “Kabilin-bilinan ni Lola.”


When asked why he felt these sexy actresses felt comfortable being “disrobed” by him, Wendell turns beet red and laughingly says, “I don’t know.”


Yet, despite all the accolades, or maybe because of it, Wendell isn’t comfortable being called a star. “I’m a very simple person,” he shares. “That’s why I’m not comfortable when people treat me differently just because I’m on television or in films. I don’t like to be alienated for my status. Or to alienate…or intimidate other people because of it.”


And if you’re thinking what he said was a customary “showbiz-zy” reply, you’re wrong. Wendell still has the same friends he has before he became a star. He still surrounds himself with the neighborhood posse he grew up with. He still hangs out in the same places with them and exchanges the same jokes. And if you really want to know the good stuff about Wendell (like who his crush in showbiz is, but we won’t tell you since we’re sworn to high secrecy), you’d do well to ask these guys.


Wendell admits that his being a comedy actor first greatly helped in making people more at ease with him. “They feel more comfortable with somebody like me, I guess because they see me doing all these patawa. All those jokes na they themselves can deliver. Mas pwede ka nilang biruin unlike those who are doing drama…seryoso dating nila e.”


Wendell stresses that his greatest dream is to have a happy family life. Winning an award for him is only secondary. “It would be nice to win an award. But if I don’t, it’s still okay, kase ako kuntento na ko na masaya family ko,” he confesses. “Kase yang award na yan, andyan lang yan e. Sa akin, mas importante ang personal life. Kase pagdating ng panahon, pag ayaw na ng tao sa ‘yo, malulungkot ka. But if your family is there, you’re still happy.”
