I'm actually at the verge of giving up my masters thesis and the primary reason is my uncooperative thesis adviser, I just really wanna know if that's reason enough to quit on my degree.

For those of you who've had really bad experiences with your advisers, how bad was it and how did you conquer or at least convince yourselves that it was time to give up?????? :confused3:

your adviser's job is simply to check the technical aspects of your thesis.

pero as adviser, sana magbigay pa rin ng "advice". pero you can never separate that from a mentor. sometimes they can challenge their students, but sometimes when they see and feel their students giving up, a teacher should also feel a little for his student. it is afterall a reflection of how effective you are. that's what teachers are for.

Ischaramoochie.......wow, its the first time for me to hear about how little an adviser should really do...i've always had the impression that they are one of your keys to survival.........oh well......

Thomas.........i totally like what you said about how it is also a reflection of how effective a teacher is, really! i've got the most hearless thesis adviser!!!!!!

hello L_a_v_n

goodluck :)

L_a_v_n,

I'm kind of wondering what you mean by uncoop[erative. Do you mean ayaw makipagmeeting? Or perhaps, refuses to listen to the problems you are encountering.

I had a horrible master's project adviser, (which is sort of like a thesis). In my master's program, we were assigned Teaching Assistants (TA's) as advisers. Mine was this Turkish b!tch, who was my group adviser for the previous semester. She made two of my groupmates cry for lack of advice, telling offs and such. She only insisted on her way.

I was so pissed to get her as an adviser. It was a nightmare from the start when I had to revise my topic 4 times and then she kept pointing out this and that and refusing to listen to my ideas. My teacher was fine with my proposal, ewan ko what she was pointing at. I discussed with the other students who had her as an adviser and they all hated her as well. We found out our projects were looking like clones of each other. Different topics but same style and everything!!!

I'm stubborn and so was she. We clashed in everything, ideas, what to research, style of writing. Finally I couldn't take it anymore, I went to my teacher and insisted that I couldn't work with her. I wasn't getting anything done at all. Everytime we met, it was always some revision of the topic or whatsoever. And she wasn't helping my develop my topic in the way I wanted but to what she wanted. So my teacher reassigned me to a different adviser. Afterwards, it was smooth sailing as my new adviser was more familiar with the setting and preferred read on a broader scale and to point out the finer details which needed to be addressed.

The only thing that marred my project was that she get herself as one of my panel and as one of my panel, she is one of those who will grade me. I'm sure that b!tch had something to do with me getting an A- instead of an A.
