Vivien Westwood does Haute Couture? Where does she show this? In Paris?

Hi Chase.
Vivienne Westwood does not do Haute Couture for men nor for women. :)
Karl Lagerfeld included some haute couture pieces for men though in the Fall 2004 Chanel Haute Couture collection.

These two clothes look great! I see myself wearing these -- I just hope I can pull it off though.

ohh yeah Roberto Cavalli...This flamboyant Italian has STYLE running through his blood. He makes ordinary garments look and feel extraordinarily stylish and sexy.
Helmut Lang, Paul Smith, Dries Van Noten Junya Watanabe (Comme des Garcons) and Yohji Yamamoto are equally noteworthy.

Sorry... I have used the term "haute couture" loosely by taking its literal meaning... I've realized that the term is exclusively used by Parisian fashion houses. :) My mistake.

Chase_Meridian: Yeah, I was a bit weirded out when you said Haute Couture for men, since that's pretty much a rarity on the runways.
JackmcpH: It isn't Fall 04 Haute Couture season yet dude. Maybe you were referring to Spring 04 HC?
For me, I'm all for Dolce & Gabbana.

mysticpaladin: Hi there. My bad. I was actually talking about the FALL 2004 CHANEL PRET-A-PORTER collection.
Chase_Meridian: Hi there. Let me correct you, please. :) The term "Haute Couture" is more exclusive than what you think. Not all fashion houses, even if designers based in Paris, are allowed to use the term haute couture.
For a fashion house to be called a haute couture house, it must belong to the Syndical Chamber for Haute Couture in Paris, which is regulated by the French Department of Industry.
Fashion houses must employ 15 or more people and present their collections twice a year. Each presentation must include at least 35 separate outfits for day and eveningwear.
To date, there are at least only about eighteen (or less) fashion houses that are licensed to use the term "Haute Couture". These include Chanel, Dior, Lacroix, Gaultier, Ungaro, Valentino, Versace and Anne Valerie Hash.
Haute couture garments are handmade and are made from scratch for each customer. Each clothing typically requires three fittings. The clothes usually take between100 to 400 hours to make. Thus, the cost of the clothes range from $26,000 to over $100,000.
A Chanel suit may cost about $30, 000. In one of the issues of Bazaar late last year, it featured three Haute Couture buyers. Bazaar followed these "it" women to their fittings with the different Haute Couture houses.
Now, you know why it's called haute couture. :) :) :)

In short, people who are with people who wear Haute Couture would go: "YOU paid WHAT??" :boom:
But then again, we're talking about clothes that you're almost guaranteed no one else would have, or at least, you won't be bumping heads with them soon, simply because it caters to a very small segment of the population (i.e. extremely rich types).
I just wonder, is Haute Couture as acceptably lucrative as it was before? Times are pretty hard, and I just can't imagine people paying the price of a luxury sportscar for clothing - much less something that's snooty enough to justify that it be only be worn just once (or twice, but that's already pushing it).
So anyway, since we're into Menswear from the runways, here are some photos from Dolce & Gabbana's Fall 04 collection - entitled "La Dolce Vita" - the Good life. The italian duo, IMO, are on top of their game. I mean, wolf print t-shirt over a jacket / blazer / coat? At least they're not showing campy stuff unlike some designers.
