Hi. Just like to ask the MDs, residents, interns, and med students alike if you could recommend some books and other stuff that may be essential and/or useful during clinical clerkship. Do you recommend buying those pocket/handy books for specific departments like surgery, medicine, OB, psych?

I bought the Clinician's Pocket Reference book. Is it any good?

Any ideas, comments, suggestions, opinions, even anecdotes will be of help. Thanks. :*)

do u happen to have a PDA? coz if you do then you could get tons of PDA medical programs (adams, schwartz, harrisons, nelsons, williams, etc) downloaded into your handheld and it would be more convenient than bringing around pocket guides.

Hi marbles,

I would recommend asking the departments what books/handbooks they use. It's not only for the exams, but also during rounds, i.e. at least you are 'on the same page'.

Hospitals and med schools have different books in use. We used a different set from UST, although UERM used mostly the same books. Ask around, especially from residents. Don't go buying books immediately as some of them end up being unread.

Hope this helps.
