MARCH 29 will mark Rico Yan's second death anniversary.

Remember him? Of course you do. How could you forget?

If you were able to ignore his TV shows and movies when he was still alive, taking him for a corny teen idol, you couldn't have possibly missed all the images they showed on TV after he died. He was all over the news. The entertainment industry mourned his loss. The media was in a frenzy. They even had his wake and burial covered.

It was Holy Week when he passed away, and all they were showing on television were movies about Jesus Christ, or masses, or the reenactment of the seven last words. No regular programming. No news advisories. But you still got to know about his death. You had other sources. You had your cellular phone.

I bet at first you thought it was just another joke, like when they sent you messages about Cardinal Sin's "death." But then you went to church because it was Good Friday, and the priest confirmed it during his sermon. Rico Yan is dead. Then there were gasps. Gasps of disbelief. Gasps for someone who didn't even make it to the age of twenty-eight.

How he shook us when he left. Before Rico, we never imagined that someone so healthy could go so abruptly. We thought teen idols were invincible, since they had the influence and the money. As it turns out they are not.

All of a sudden we were members of his fan club. So who was Rico, really? We all wanted to know. We started craving for news of him, trying to find the answers to his death, and answers to our own lives. While watching his family and friends and co-workers being interviewed on TV, we learned of how great he had been. And we gasped a little more. He was so young. He had a promising future ahead of him. He could have been the future president for all we knew.

He ceased being a teen idol. He became a hero.

When Rico died the country was forced to face the reality of death. Death does not care for age, gender or social status. But our vague idea of how death may strike at any moment, at whomever still didn't make us shockproof. As they say, knowledge does not make for immunity.

So, when former Senator Miriam Defensor-Santiago's son died just a few months ago we still weren't able to hold in gasps of disbelief. And we were all the more shocked when we learned that Alexander Santiago's death wasn't by natural causes. He took his own life. He did it because of a failing grade. His suicide note said so.

Many of us didn't understand why he could have done it. How could he have put a gun to his head? How could he have pulled the trigger? Was he courageous because he had the guts to face something a lot of us couldn't even begin to think about? Or was he a coward for ending his life just because of one failing grade?

We wanted to know all the answers to our questions. And so we watched as they provided us with information on TV. They interviewed his mother, whom before any of this ever happened we couldn't have imagined as anything other than a tough senator. They interviewed his friends, schoolmates, cousins.

We learned he had been a great guy. He shared snacks and conversation with his buddies while sitting on the stairs in front of his school building. He went out with his mother a lot, and he held her hand while they walked.

Another big loss, we said.

And we thought it would be some time before another incident like this would ever happen. But we were wrong. Miko Sotto, teen idol and son of radio commentator Ali Sotto, passed away just a month or two after Alexander. He fell off a building. Our hearts sank in our chests. Miko was a promising young adult, just like what Rico and Alexander had been. He had the looks. He answered well in his interviews. And after he died we learned that he had been a very caring and loving person.

Through all these, the thing I've noticed is that it seems harder for the country to accept the departure of someone young rather than someone who have been here on earth for quite some time already.

I tried to think up reasons. Is it because we've only had them for so long? Is it because they have so much more to give? Is it because they were brimming with dreams, and they had the energy and will to make them happen, but they were taken away? Or is it because as Ali Sotto put it, it's not in the natural order of things?

Then again, it could be the irony of it all-- how the youth fights everyday to be understood, how they would pay anything for people -- or even just their parents -- to know who they really are and what they're made of. And how this wish only seems to come true in death.

Who were Rico, Alexander and Mico? We all seem to know now, don't we?

I didn't become a Rico Yan fan until he died. Hindi naman talaga ako mahilig sa showbiz, pero when I learned about Rico and the kind of person he was I became one of his many admirers. For someone so young he accomplished a lot and he could have done so much more, he had a bright future ahead of him kaya siguro up to now marami pa rin ang hindi makapaniwala na wala na siya. I was happy na kahit wala na siya nakasama pa rin siya sa celebration ng Star Circle Quest. Kahit papaano hindi pa rin nila nakakalimutan si Rico.

When this thing happened the only movie or show ive seen him is Got To Believe. Except from his commercials. Not much into TV and Local movies.

But after what ive read and heard about this man, I was surprised that there are still people like him exist in showbiz.

I was touched and inspired considering that we're almost the same age and he already accomplished a lot. It is really frustrating that a role model had to end his story abruptly.

I just hope he accepted Christ before he slept.

don't worry he did... actually he was in constant communication with his spiritual leader.. Fr Caluag of Ateneo before he died.. he died with the Lord on his side.. i am sure of that.. he had plans of doing some shows for Fr Caluag.. different from what he usually do.. sayang.. di na natin malalaman kung anu-ano ang mga iyon.. but i know that may social relevance ang mga shows nya sana..

My last meeting with Rico and Claudine... b4 MTB he went to look at the audience.. I was there.. he was surprised to see me.. and said "hey Lulu! how are you? when did you arrive? and he went out of his way to give me hugs and kisses.. he looked at me and probably wondering what happened to me at may sunog ako sa mukha.. he didn't say anything.. just looked at me and wondered. he told me manood daw ako ng preview ng G2B.. sabi ko "di ako puede dahil kailangan ko ng bumalik sa 16th.. tanong nya "bakit?" sabi ko.. kasi sabi b4 "Valentine's day ang showing ng movie nyo tapos pinalitan ng later date" then he pleaded "sige na, wait na lang para makapanood ka." sabi ko "di talaga puede may pasok na ako next week.. " then he said.. "okay, pag may tape na ang G2B.. padadalhan kita." sabi ko.. "thank you.. asahan ko.." (pangakong di na nagkaroon ng katuparan dahil sa pagkamatay nya a month after..) during the show.. he told me to stay and he will be guesting sa Sharon Show.. and Claudine will be there too.. i said okay.. i will.. the whole day for me was really tiring.. during lunch.. he was at the other section of the cafeteria with the MTB people.. looking at me thru the glass door.. waved at me.. and gave the sign.. thumbs up.. i said "i am okay.." after lunch.. he was on his way out with Lulu Romero who was pregnant that time.. introduced me to her.. and gave me a hug and kiss.. and told me see you later okay.. i said "sure".. i waited and watched the first portion of Sharon Show taping.. when they went out, he looked for me sa audience and once he saw me.. he called Claudine.. and told Claudine "Claud.. si Lulu nasa audience.. hayun.." then Claud looked and waved as I's waved and said "hi Lulu, nice to see you.. how are you? glad you could come.." i said.. "i am okay, i told her she was looking good that night.." well, after their first part.. i had to say goodbye.. kasi i still had to go home in Pampanga.. Rico and Claudine gave me hugs and kisses.. pero dahil marami ang mga tao na gustong makipagpa picture sa kanila.. di na ako nagtagal at Rico just said.. i will write you and send you the tape.. i gave him my home address and phone number.. okay.. i will see you.. as i left.. i didn't know that will be our last meeting..

AHHH!!!.. that will be forever in my mind.. i will never forget that day i last saw and talked to Rico..

C BOBBY nga pala d ko na naintay kc from chowtime drop pa sya sa school sa San Juan kc graduation syempre guest c councilor BOBBY YAN.

Kita nyo na ba dreamhouse ni RICO sa baguio? DOn nagspend ng holy week si BOBBY. Nasa YES magazine ang house (look for JANUARY or FEBRUARY issue).

just got your mail. how are you? i hope everything's okay with you. i'm glad you liked my birthday special. i've been really busy working and shooting for my movie with robin padilla.. wala pang title but i pray it will do good sa box office. i'm really very nervous coz after anak the expectations are more now! but of course vilma santos yon kaya it was a big hit! i was just very lucky to be in it! i'm really depressed now! sorry ha? just want to make kwento.. my mom was rushed to the hospital last night. the doctors said it could have been a mild stroke! God! i'm just freaking out!! i've been really tired these past few days and just when i got homefew days and just when i got home last night ready to sleep. my brother called me up to tell me the bad news!!! well, that's my kwento sorry again! medyo depressing ba??

hello sa lahat ng rico yan fanatics :wave: thanks for making this thread for rico. im pipay from sayerz and piocas thread. and im an avid fan of rico yan. the very first star studio magazine na nabili ko is yong rico yan special issue nila when he past away last march of 2002.grabe. di lang siya super guwapo, magaling kumanta, umarte at sumayaw, businessman, but more so he's a good person talaga kaya hindi siya nakakalimutan ng lahat ng taong nagmamahal sa kanya. im an avid fan of rico and claudine rin talaga. naku ilang beses kong pinanood yong mga movies nila esp yong dahil mahal na mahal kita at Got To Believe.hehehe. happy din ako na happy na rin now si claudine and im sure kung nasan man si rico ngayon he's at peace already cause his with God na.

This year's observance of All Saints' Day has been generally peaceful, with all the necessary security measures put in place.

No untoward incident has been reported as of Wednesday noon, but police confiscated over 480 prohibited items such as alcoholic drinks, playing cards, sharp objects, guns, stereo sets and guitars from Metro Manila's 63 cemeteries.

About 8,000 policemen were deployed to secure the peace and order in the vicinity of all the cemeteries. Ambulances and first-aid kiosks are also on stand by.

To thwart any threat of terrorism during the observance of the holiday, the metro has been placed on alert since Tuesday.

K-9 units have been deployed in major cemeteries for added security.

TV reports said the number of cemetery-goers this year is significantly lower compared to last year.

Meanwhile, many Filipinos paid respect not just to the departed members of their families but to prominent personalities as well.

The tomb of the late Senator Benigno "Ninoy" Aquino Jr. and actors Rico Yan and Alfie Anido at the Manila Memorial Park in Paranaque and presidentiable Fernando Poe Jr. at the North Cemetery in Manila were just some of the resting places visited by many people.

As early as Tuesday evening, hundreds set up their tent, especially at the Manila Memorial Park, in anticipation of heavy flow of human traffic Wednesday morning. (PNA)

Well at least una sa lahat ng mga youth oriented shows.. alin kayang episode ang nakakuha ng highest rating nila? noong nagpaalam si Juday.. Rico and Juday outside by the pool.. Ricky telling Diane just look up the sky and they will feel that they are by each other's side lang kahit na magkalayo sila... or the time na sagutin ni Diane si Ricky.. oh... i love GIMIK.. i just don't know why ABS is not making one just like GIMIK.. pero sana mamili naman sila ng artista nila na di lang basta-basta...

Claudine finally pregnant


Actress Claudine Barretto is finally pregnant with her and actor Raymart Santiago's first child, TV Patrol World reported Tuesday.

ABS-CBN correspondent Niña Corpuz said Santiago learned about his wife's pregnancy Tuesday morning through her obstetrician, who stood as one of the principal sponsors in their wedding.

Barretto's manager, Lulu Romero, said the actress nearly fainted with joy when told that she is a few weeks on the family way.

Reports said Santiago was rushing Barretto to get pregnant last September. The 27-year-old actress has been getting medical help for her fertility.

In a DZMM interview earlier Tuesday Barretto confirmed her pregnancy and said that she would be happy to have either a son or a daughter.

"Dati, no, gusto ko girl talaga sabi ko. Tapos ngayon sabi ko talagang anything na lang (Before I really wanted a girl. Now I said the gender doesn't matter) ," she said.

She also did not rule out the possibility of having twins, saying that the Santiagos have a history of multiple births.

"Nagpapasalamat talaga kami sa lahat lahat ng prayers ninyo para sa amin and siyempre talaga ang gandang pamasko, ang agang pamasko (We really thank everyone for the prayers. Of course, this is a wonderful early Christmas gift)," Barretto added.

Barretto is expected to give birth in July 2007.

The couple, who come from a family of actors, wed on March 27, 2006.

Barretto stars in ABS-CBN's new drama series "Walang Kapalit" with screen heartthrob Piolo Pascual.

He died, in 2002, of acute hemorrhagic pancreatitis, the day after shooting a television commercial for Talk n' Text at the Dos Palmas Resort in Palawan. During his burial, confetti rained on the car containing his body. This event happened only one other time in the history of the Philippines - when Benigno Aquino was to be buried, where some 10,000 people attended his funeral.
The night before he died, Rico sang "Got to Believe" and "Falling For You"; both songs were featured in his last movie, Got 2 Believe. Part of the proceeds from the sale of his last movie Got 2 Believe went to the Rico Yan Youth Foundation.
His first and last films were with fellow actress Claudine Barretto, who was his girlfriend was at the time of his passing.

Rico's kagwapuhan... is not really because is he dead kaya ganon na lang ang aura nya.. to tell you.. di sya masyadong gwapo.. pero sya yung tipong.. pag napatingin ka sa kanya.. you can't help but have a second look... para syang magnet.. yan ang charisma ni Rico Yan.. i remember my first meeting with Rico.. i was star struck talaga.. can't open my mouth all i did was stare at him.. natawa nga sya sa akin.. and those hugs and kisses he gave me on our last meeting.. kala ng mga nanonood noon ng MTB.. kapamilya ako ni Rico.. dahil as soon he saw me.. he came to me and hugged me.. di ko makalalimutan iyon.. dahil din sa kanyang invitation to stay so i could watch their taping ng Sharon Show with Claudine.. i had to stay sa ABS the whole day.. the whole day naman nandoon din sya.. i will never forget....

i was only at my teenage year kasi ng panahong yan ni Rico, wala pa akong pera para makaGo sa abs.. sana na meet ko sya, pangarap ko pa man din na meet sila ni Juday non.. i collect those clippings nila sa tabloids, magazines.. i even wrote them a letter.. i miss rico.. madalas nga na panoorin ko yung movie nila ni Juday na Kay Tagal Kang Hinintay. sayang sana pala masusundan yung movie na yun nila ni Juday with Fernando Poe dati.

accidental pa nga ang pagkakanood ko noon, nagpa record lang yung pinsan ko at may lakad daw sya, ayoko pa nga kasi may gagawin ako noon pero pinagbigyan ko sya ...
di ko pa masyadong gusto si Judai noon kasi akala ko malapad ang lips

parang iba sya dito kasi rich ang character nya at bagay sila ng
