Hey hopia! It's great that other people from UA&P are finding their voices! :) What's your course? I graduated last Saturday, PPE/MAP.

There's this one girl who just about makes me melt whenever I see or (especially) speak with her.. but I'd rather not mention her name, because for all I know she could be a PExer too! You could even be her! (Do I sound paranoid or what!)

Well, it's not like I'm aiming for anything, because she's already got someone and they're pretty happy together, from what I've heard. We're somewhere between acquaintances and friends, and I'd really rather not ruin it. (KJ ba?)

hey guys. just wanna ask about your opinion about ua&p's information technology course. is it good? is it worth it? i'm plannig to shift courses kasi and i really like computer-related courses. they say dlsu is the best, but i kinda like the e-commerce thing sa crc. can anyone shed some light?

As far as I know, UA&P is the pioneer in the Information Technology program. The 1st BSIT batch graduated in 1997 and the 1st batch for the 5-year MSIT program graduated in 2000 (which I am part of :D). I'm not sure if I can be of much help since the curriculum changes every year in the university so there are some present subjects which I was not able to take, and some which have already been scrapped. This is because the IT program is adapted to the changing times and to the growing needs of the IT industry. :) You can check out this year's course curriculum here (http://www.uap.edu.ph/academics/menu_academics.htm#). ello!! contrary to hearsays and rumors abt students of ua&p being rich kids with nothing up there. i believe that is just a very bad misconception of what people outside the campus sees or thinks of us. y? well, just like every student from big and well established universities out there, students from ua&p also have their own share of staying up late to prepare for an exam, spending hrs and hrs in front of the computer and in the library to have a real good research paper and basically, experience pressures of university life! *pexadik*
it really sux hearing bad remarks from people who has not gone to our school and really observe *** life in ua&p is and just pre judge us, just like that. :(

I'm an alumna from this university. I graduated 1999. :redsmile: I know that our school have been stereo-styped as a school for the rich with no brains or as a school for students that wasn't accepted in other schools!

I definitely believe that alot of people need to know that these impressions are NOT TRUE at all! I for one is a living proof and so is a lot of my friends back in college! We are relatively a young school. But I think that we have our own strengths as well. I don't think I'll trade my college educational training for another. :redsmile:

Well, as for me, I started a business just last December. Network gaming. So far, so good naman. I also ran the family business (pawnshop). I do regret though of not being able to work sa corporate world because I think I'll be needing the exposure to understand how to ran things and especially how to manage people. :redsmile:

i'm currently enrolled in ua&p, 3rd year.

i think that's unfair. true, it is quite expensive in ua&p, but that shouldn't take away the fact that we work just as hard (or maybe even harder) as students in say, UP or UST or La Salle. True, some are well-off -- should that be taken against them ? In fact, most children from well-off families have a lot expected of them and this drives them to work harder.

It annoys me, that,sometimes when a new acquaintance asks me where I study and when they find out it's ua&p, they have this expression that seems to say, "oh, you're one of those intellectually-challenged rich kids!" I just hate that!!!

dyzfunk: tell me about it. I was having a burger at Hotshots one time, and I couldn't help but overhear this conversation going on at another table. Seems they were talking about school there.. this woman was grimacing and saying it was just for rich idiots-- the usual junk.

And this one, overheard just last Saturday night at Seattle's Best in Rockwell-- a couple of people were saying that most of the people who patronized some motel or other were "from CRC." (Don't you wonder where they got their statistics? Do people who patronize motels actually say where they study?) I laughed at this one, though.. sounded plain ridiculous.

Let's just do our best and prove to these idiots what we ourselves already know-- that we're not people you can dismiss that easily. :D

my batchmates graduated just last june, but i just finished til 3rd year at UA&P. The school is really great, but I just didn't like my course (MScM). Management isn't really for me lang.

Whenever I tell people I came from UA&P, I always get that "Oh so u must be rich" line. They expect me to be some sort of spoiled, rich brat which can really be so annoying. Anyway, people are entitled to their opinions and it's entirely up to them if they let their opinions cloud their judgment towards other people, specifically the ones from UA&P. It's their loss if they don't realize how great people from UA&P are. hehe.. baka inggit lang sila!;)

Just a thought, folks.. are we really going to let these people affect us so much? Look at the stuff we've put down in this forum so far-- it's all REACTIVE-- we're just reacting to the bad press we've been getting so far. (I'm guilty of this too of course.) We can hardly be blamed, but come on.. I think we can do so much better than this, don't you think?

Their view of us UA&P folks is skewed, sure-- but I'm hoping that our view of ourselves hasn't become equally skewed. Paradigm-shift time, guys. I'm sure they aren't losing any sleep over the stuff they've been saying, so why should we? :D

Moving on..

I think there's a lot to be said for our system of education, although it does have its faults. UA&P students can go toe-to-toe with the best students from the States and not be embarrassed. Just ask any of the people (organizers or delegates) who've attended any of the annual Harvard Project for Asian and International Relations (HPAIR) conferences, and you'll see why. Even my friend from the Massachusetts Institute of Tech (taking his PhD, no less), whom I met during HPAIR 1999, speaks highly of the UA&P folks he's met. He was here last week to attend the UA&P School of Management's annual conference (the APEC Future Leaders' Forum) and he's told me that he was suitably impressed by the whole event. This, if you ask me, is a much better indicator of how good a school is than the number of students it's got, the relative paucity of PhD holders in its faculty, or the number of buildings the campus has. :rolleyes:

That said, though, I've discovered that having an MA this early, and one from a supposedly 'unproven' institution as ours, can actually be a hindrance to getting a good job here in the Philippines. My batchmates and I, Pol grads with MAs in Politics, have had a bit of a hard time getting jobs, and most of us are connected to school now. That isn't a surprise given the way things are nowadays. I'm sure that in the future, though, our MAs will stand us in good stead.

They also said that it's best that we call before we go there so they'll be able to prepare it for us.

about the site, it's a dead site. Synthesis (the publication of the IAG) is long gone coz the guys out there didn't feel that they should pass it on to the lower batch. Emanem and Juan Ekis aren't writing that many articles anymore so there's nothing much to publish there anymore.

Ayun, we went to Greenbelt, had lunch and watched Cinemanila (No Trains, No Planes was showing) then went back to YJ's place and slept. :lol:

Also know Marylou from HS pa since we went to the same school; she was a batch lower. We were also both in AIESEC, and co-officers at one time (I was VP-CD, she was VP-HR) before I stopped and she became LCP. I hear she's doing good with the org, even became President of AIESEC International.

I know Jerry K personally. you can learn a lot from him provided you're not intimidated by him (he loves to scare the bejeezus out of students during the first few days).

unless you want IT Management, I suggest you don't take up IT. Anyways, I'll be team teaching one of the IT subjects this semester. We just got delayed due to some hardware problems. I hope I get to meet you in school :)

K super...he's really galing and kahit "terror" siya eh ok na ok...as u'll learn a lot ....i may not have gotten a good grade from him pero ok lang kasi i learned talaga something....good thing he finished his PhD na....so now DR na siya... it's fun getting intimidated at him at first pero eventually you'll get the hang of it.....

Yup..UAP offers Integration of Marketing Communcations. the things is, it's really hard to get in there..you must have an average of flat 2 from first year to second year...not only that..you should be really good in your verbal skill, because the competition's really hard..they wanna get students who are actually fluent. Im sure you can put up with that challenge.
When you take up your fifth year there..you get to receive an international diploma..it's credited sa New York to be specific.

SO how are the uap graduates there? Its been so long since I've logged in cause I was really busy. School's still great.
