tnx!

kahit saan merong t-shirt na astig yung print. look around department stores, boutiques, specialty stores, or have it done (yung mga silk screen printers) so you'll have a one of a kind tee.

As for the pants, look at upscale boutiques (someone mentioned diesel), they might have the type of jeans that would be perfect as you described. Or you can distress / fade it yourself... :teehee:

ey clawed out, asan makakakita ng paper denim and cloth? never heard ko pa un.. haha, i dont really go to malls tlaga. puros sm at rp lang ako madalas =0 . and wer's seven? earl jeans? von dutch... oops, wala na ata akong kaalam alam na store. haha. at san din ang paul frank?

mysticpaladin : how can u distress / fade it urself?? i was thinking about this nga dati kaso pano naman gawin? kuskusin mo ng sobra yung pants till mag fade? *** shud u make use of? hehe. baka masira yung pants!

tsaka pano ba yung pants na may mga himolhol sa baba? yung banda sa paa. some cut it lang diba? tapos they tease the thread... pero panget eh, tsaka baka masira lang. pero some pants look cool pag ganon... mukhang binili sya tlaga na ganon na. or tlagang sarili gumagawa nun? id like to have those kind of pants.. =)

quickbrwnfoxjumpsoverthelazydog: it's easy, just get a rough rock (this is what i use) and run through the part of the jean you'd like to distress. When you see it getting a bit faded, stop, throw it in the washer, and you get yourself a nice faded jean. I would suggest buying a cheap pair of jeans first to try it on (or if it's good on the first go, then why not? :> )

for frayed pants, just cut the jean, throw it in the washer, it'll fray by itself. I never needed to do anything else.

oh hindi ko alam kung saan nakakabili non sa pilipinas other than the internet. my best bet is makati.

stressing with bato? i suggest din na papel de liha, yung a bit finer grade hindi yung magaspang. then wash it. ikaskas sa pantalon habang suot mo (sige na wag ng mahiya), wag tigilan ang prosesso hanggang hindi ka satisfied. liha, laba, liha, laba.

the jeans i recently came with those frays, little holes & years of worn out look.

one wuick way to fade & most likely it'd fray is soaking it through bleach for 10 minutes.

If your in Ronbinson's Place, try checking out People are People. The branch there still carries Diesel jeans - stocks when they still owned the franchise before they sold it Store Specialists.

Some items are still very good and not as expensive if you buy it in Diesel stores now. And they still have distressed ones.

The t-shirts in People are People are also cute.

Levi's also had nice distressed jeans, the last time I saw them was about a year ago. I just don't know if they still have it now.

But if you are willing to invest in a good pair of distressed jeans, your best bet in finding them would be Diesel ( Greenbelt 3, Power Plant Mall, or Robinson's Galleria)

Hope you find one that you like:)

Formal wear: Linea Uomo carries really good stuff at very low prices.

Casual wear: I recommend G2000. The designs are very up-to-date and the clothes are very wearable. The sizes are also very appropriate for most Filipinos.

"U" is located in Rustans in Glorietta. I think there's also one in Shang.

Linea Uomo,, they have loads of advertisments in broadsheets, check it out. They have several branches in Metro Manila eh,, scattered. Pero usually yan, sa mga first-rate malls.

Anyway, i just want to announce that Rustan's opened a dept. store in Robinson's Place Manila. Check it out. It is located beside topshop and near Rustan's Essences.

U is an in-house brand of Rustan's located in almost all of their stores I think. It caters to the teen and young adult market. In Shangri-la Tower, U is located in Level 3 inside Rustan's Dept. Store. In Cubao, U is located on the ground level. Kaya lang, most of the U stuff they sell in Cubao seems to be the left-overs from the other stores.

mysticpaladin: Thanks for the tip. I think he would be too old already for the hip-hop stuff that you recommended. Are there sort of high-end brands (but not too high-end like LV or Cartier) like A/X, Blue Harbor by Marks and Spencer, or even CK that have XXL round neck shirts? Even a local brand like Ritratto would be fine.

If you're talking about XXL as in a bit oversize tees, I don't think you'll find it at the Linea stores, since for some reason, Italian sizes are oddly small (I'm a size medium on almost everything, except when I bought my stuff at Linea Uomo, I transformed to XXL, go figure :bungi: )
But it doesn't hurt to ask. Maybe the A/X stores here have them on stock or something.

I recently bought a pair of dark brown faded jeans from People are People and I love the fit.

There's this new shop in Glorietta called TUTTO MODA and they really have nice Italian clothes. A bit pricey but if you are tired of the usual men's RTW then you might find something for you here. I bought a t-shirt for P800++. It looks vintage and worn-out... nothing extraordinary but knowing that it is authentic Italian makes me feel good wearing it. I wonder though if Tutto Moda is in any way connected with Linea Uomo.

those are either part of track suits (track & field warmers)

or plain old warmers (warm up uniforms by athletes).

it comes in in velour, nylon, polyester or maybe feathers. haha

juicy is on the upper end but why pay 100something $ when you can have atleast 60-80$ worht of vintage looking puma, adidas or nike.

diesel jean's prices depends on the type of jeans & the wash it has. i think mas mura ang pantalon diyan kesa sa diesel sa america.

for the jeans, the best pa din diesel, levi's and ckjeans. but polo jeans have nice ones in their stores right now. armani also has good ones but the fit is not as good (in my case) as the ones mentioned before.

for the shirts , dami niyan. ck has really nice ones, medyo expensive lang. lee and bench have really funky and cool shirts that are reasonably priced.

yeah i checked out tutto moda and they really have cool shirts but pricey because italian nga. there's this new store also in greenbelt3, springfield and they have nice clothes. diesel and replay always have those funky shirts in their stores.

i used to like topman but lately, their stocks are not as appealing than before. U in rustans has really great selections and price range is reasonable.

you can't go wrong with the american brands that are pricey - dkny, polo jeans, kenneth cole, banana republic, gap and old navy. wish we had an abercrombie&fitch store here.

anyway, who among u guys wear the pointed shoes for men being sold in tyler, carbon, wade etc? i bought a pair from tyler and i kinda went for the more conservative style, the shoe was somewhat pointed but the edges are rounded. and i got it on sale that's why i bought it immediately. problem is, i haven't got the guts to wear it to work coz im working in a conservative company, and nobody from work is wearing a similar style. maybe i would be able to wear when i go out instead, when i have to somewhat dress up for the occassion.

where do you guys buy your shoes? and what's your fave style? im eyeing this white leather sneakers/tennis shoes from puma but its a bit expensive for a sneakers for me. im not the sneakers type of person din kasi but im trying to change that.

I have pointed leather shoes from Florsheim, and its my favorite pair! It goes well with jeans. Sometimes, I even wear it with cargo pants. Nasa pagdadala lang yan. :) Pointed shoes used to be "in" just a few seasons ago, but I think it's the square toes that is trendy now. Pero I dont follow trends when it comes to shoes because I only have few pairs. I buy shoes that I can wear often and last a very long time.

Regarding track suits, meron sa Defect pero problem is I find them too small.

where in heaven's name is Tutto Moda in Glorietta? Like adjacent stores and stuff.

Diesel jeans range from P3000 for the basic ones and up to P7000 for the funkier ones (think washed distressed faded frayed bootcut variety). Never bought anything from Diesel yet, though, so I wouldn't know how it fits.

Sporty jackets (think track jackets & sweat jackets) seem to be at a rage now, everybody seems to have it. Available almost everywhere from high-end stores to department stores. Those aren't my thing though.

As for pointed shoes, I can't, just because my podiatrist would have a fit with me. Hehe.

Hi. The one for women is TERRA NOVA. :) TUTTO MODA is for both men and women. Both clothing lines are Italian. I stand corrected, Tutto Moda is NOT adjacent to Florsheim, but it's just very near it. I can't remember the name of the store adjacent to it. But you'll find it easily just by walking past Florsheim and Marks and Spencer.

Or, when you enter Glorietta 4 (Hotel Intercon side), turn right to Florsheim. Walk straight ahead and the store is on the right side. It's right before a home appliance and furniture store.

clawed_out: Sinabi mo pa, tsong. It's like comparing the Gap to Gucci (from a prestige standpoint ha).

amca12: As far as I know, there isn't a free-standing Dolce & Gabbana or D&G boutique in the Philippines. However, & Dolce & Gabbana (the unisex diffusion diffusion line - ergo the cheapest) has 2 boutiques in the country: 1 in 2nd floor of Shangrila, inside crossings, and the other on the ground floor of Glorietta 4. It's close to Lush (I think). You can always try your luck with the Italian-themed clothes stores like Linea Italia / Uomo and Tutto Moda, they carry D&G and Dolce&Gabbana clothes (I've seen shirts, tees and jeans) from time to time.

as for bootcut jeans, I'll swear by Levi's bootcut jeans. Close second are the bootcut jeans by Topman.

You know what? I'm really glad that there are a lot of menswear shops popping up. It's about time. You go to any department store and an entire floor is filled with blouses, skirts, shoes, bags of all shapes and sizes - for women while for the men - they're so limited and usually ultra-pangit.

Helmut Lang is my current fixation. I love my vintage dark indigo jeans. I Luv how it perfectly hugs my lower body. I live in it 200 days in a year! hehe.. His footwear is superb too. His sandals that I got a few months ago are a great conversation starter :*)

Depends on the weather and the vest.
Don't wear it in extreme sunlight, people will snicker in laughter. Make sure that the vest is LIGHTWEIGHT, anything thicker will make others think that you're trying real hard.
A real handy question to ask yourself is "What is the purpose of wearing this outfit in such an occassion?"

Chase_Meridian- what's was the brand of your wristwatch that went with this get up? was it stainless steel strap or leather strap?

match it with grommet/ studded belt.

that rusty look from your jeans must be from the resin that was baked with the jeans. -looks nice huh?!

helmut lang's pants are nice- they look grungy/ s&m because of the extra zippers & straps (jumper straps decently placed anywhere) i wish i could afford one. i'm just your average pedro in the kalye that can afford nice things once in a while.

Do not hesitate in bartering your hard earned dosh for expensive classic pieces. These items look good and will never age. The beautiful thing with 'classics' is you may quirk it up by fusing current fad pieces with your classics. The mantra is, buy expensive classics and horde a very select line of fad clothes to see you through the fleeting season.

A lot of men don't invest enough in accessories. Honestly, there's no point wearing all these beautiful outfits without 'finishing' the look with a complimentary pair of shoes. Have several shoes in different styles for different purposes and occassions. You don't have to buy all your shoes in 1 go. Build up your wardrobe slowly.

Watch is another important accessory. IMO, every man should own 1 expensive watch that they can afford. Forget the chunky psuedo-gold look (unless you want to be mistaken for an OCW) and think clean cut, sleek and avant garde.

Its fine if you have 3 or 5 or 10. The important thing is you have at least 1 piece that is the 'crown jewel' of your watch collection. Im thinking Rolex, Omega, Patek, Piaget, Cartier, IWC, Maubossin, Baume and Mercier, Bvlgari etc... The more affordable watches that don't carry a hefty price tag which is visually pleasing include: Hugo Boss, Burberry, Gucci, Coach. Fendi, Calvin Klein, Rado, Fendi, Armani, Christian Dior, George Jensen, Skagen.

i like collecting wristwatches. i have 23 at the moment.
my 'crown jewel' is a longines automatic leather strap.
the rest are (in various designs, formal/casual)
4 swatch
5 casio
4 seiko
2 citizen
1 roamer
3 fossil
1 guess
2 timex expedition

i read somewhere that these timepieces reminds of something of the day you bought it. i think it's true. it connects you with the past. it has its own history.

If you don't own a polo in your wardrobe, I suggest you start with the classic polos in Black, White, Dark Navy or Dark Charcoal (choose whichever colour(s) that work well with your skin tone). When you have invested in all these colours, then you may buy miscellaneous colours that you fancy. If you're thin and lanky AVOID baggy style polos as you will look ghastly in it. GO for a more body hugging variety (slim fit). If you're budget is 500-800, could you defer your Polo purchase until you can dish out P2000+ for an orig Polo Ralph Lauren? Otherwise, checkout Bossinni (I really don't fancy Giordano). If you have friends or relative abroad maybe you could ask them to buy you 1 during the sale season? Polo Ralph Lauren SALES are quite pathetic in Manila and the stocks are overpriced!

As for Shoes, theres a Hong Kong label called Cour Carré that sells Italian designed leather shoes. Their shoes at sale time starts at roughly P3000 and go up to P8000. Im not sure if theres a stockist in Manila. Alternatively, you could get shoes custom made in Marikina? Look for a design from those Italian houses on the Internet or Mag and get them copied.

I think you're confusing the signature line and the diffusion line of Dolce & Gabbana. I meant the suits of the signature line - classic 3 buttons, double breasted, etc. A lot of magazines (like FHM Collections) cite Dolce & Gabbana as one of the better makers of suits.

Actually, that doesn't sound too bad. I did two whole outtings (suit, shirt, tie, socks, shoes, belt, even boxer shorts) and a throw-in leather jacket that raked an even US$1000. Nice material though. But I could've gotten the whole same thing at a custom suit tailor in Dongalo, Parañaque for roughly half the price. Hmmm. Maybe I should do that when I fly home soon.

Yeah, but it's comparing clothes in the United States to the ones back home.

Oh well, guess It's because my definition of affordable polos is at P500 (and that's as splurg-y as I can get). P2000 on shoes already makes me ill. Everyone has their spending habits, I guess.

Undoubtedly, D & G dish out classic couture. Whether D & G is 'a better maker of suits' than Helmut or any other designers, is definitely arbitrary. Essentially it all trickles down to 4 essential values of a suit: Cut, Fabric, Design and Affordability.

Who is a better judge? The wearer of the garment or a magazine house?

Baldomaro: Who wears it, syempre :) But the market would most likely read magazines when they would go through uncharted territory (i.e. designer suits) - thus there should is at least a portion of the guy's decision to go with a certain designer over the other.

In the end, though, "if the shoe fits, then wear it!" It also tickles down on taste and the 4 things you mentioned.

Merger has been existing in Glorietta for quite some time already. Yes, the items sold are quite affordable and at the same time, they don't produce too many copies of particular items to maintain a sort of "exclusive" status.

MEMO mostly has office clothes. The overly familiar black pants, the leather belts, the short sleeved polos. Although they have some good pieces that can be used for gimmick.

I am a shopaholic. Although I go for high-end brands, I know where to find the best bargains. Fashion is not always about buying expensive designer label items. The challenge (and the fun) is putting together an emsemble that may consist of a pricey Comme Des Garcon or a Costume Nationale shirt with jeans from Bench, and a good pair of nice yet comfortable pair of Italian shoes. The key is mixing and matching.

Being a perennial shopper, I suggest that one goes to every store, boutique, mall, bazaar, tiangge, even an ukay-ukay shop to find the best item. Believe me, every single place lies a treasure or 2 just waiting to be purchased.

As much as possible, DO NOT buy full price. Wait for sales, which happens every so often in our mall-infested country. Some of my best items I purchased from sales.

Here are some of my best finds:

- Marks & Spencer shirt for 90% off the price (P180)
- Italian pants at P200 each at Rustan's (got all 3 colors)
- Several U long sleeved funky shirts in blue, black, and white
from Rustan's at P150-200 each
- P150 jeans from Bench
- 2 Emporio Armani leather belts at P700 each
- A P250 Pal Zileri linen sport coat/blazer from Linea Uomo
- A watch (black strap/white face) from Rustan's for P400 (80%
discount)
- Ermenegildo Zegna pair of black pants with leather piping for
P800
- Oleg Cassini sign pen for P50 (originally priced at P675)
- Leather Messenger bag from Theme - P480
(originally priced at P2,650)
- Parkerson black leather shoes from Rustan's at P1,800 (you
probably won't believe me if I tell you that the original price of
the shoes is P14,000)
- My mom got a pair of Gucci shoes for P600 at a Rustan's sale 6
years ago

So, there, some of my best purchases through my years of endless shopping. For really nice clothes, I list some of my favorite stores (from most to least favorite):

- Rustan's (ultimately the best store in town)
- Linea Uomo
- Corso Marconi
- Tyler
- that nameless store beside Tag Heuer in Glorietta (what used
to be Nautica) where they sell branded items at half the price
- Shoe Salon
- Esprit

BaLdoMarO mentioned several watch brands, but I don't see Panerai in it, which, for me, is still the best. Rolex is just so overrated.

Womanswear is far more abundant...where does that leave the men?

Day after day, I'm left with the choice of either a graphic tee or my simple gray or black shirt, with of course jeans...whatelse!!

Women have the advantage/disadvantage of having a vast array of cuts/ style / color/...she could even put a potato sack on herself and call it a dress (I've seen that on a japanese graphics book)...my point?...well don't fret...with menswear the big thing is DETAIL. Something can be simple in its design but its the meticulous work that its put into it that really matters.

Fourtunately these type of clothes do exist for the "alternative sex of fashion"...
They are apparent in John Bartlett's military and often utilitarian design. In Neil Barrett, who's eye for detail (sometimes changing the design of his clothes more the 30 times before its put out on a show) become an obsession. Christopher Bailey, his trenchcoats and severe english style will get any one to buy Burberry Prorsum...John Varvatos, Jean Touitou...and all of those other names that are out of mainstream hype.

Knowing Gucci, Armani, Versace... is wonderful, these are the names that will be classics. However, expand the knowledge... only knowing names like these is like saying you know modern music because you listen to the Beetles, Elvis or Michael Jackson...

There are clothes for men...its up to you to think what people care more about, the label or the whole package.

...so anyways, now that I got that out of the way...

I was wondering if there was some menswear designers that are based in Asia that you might know about, but skip the big names like Miyaki, Yamamoto, or Kawakubo...im trying to study on Asian designers ... i would find it a big help if you guys could enlighten me on the topic.

Much much much muuuuuch less than the real thing. The 2000 pesos you spent on the shirt would get you a spool of thread on a couture garment. :teehee:

By the way, I was at Shangrila yesterday, I saw an ad for U Nights on one of the floors, got me excited. I'm deffo passing by the Glorietta store when I'm around the area.

trapt: I just read an article on British Vogue regarding this. Menswear, according to the guy (Geoffrey Beene) is more on taste than trends, which is right on. The difficulty I guess is that one really needs to dig hard (sometimes even invest) for a piece they'd never see on someone else (imagine how horrific that is if you see someone else wearing the exact same thing, from the shirt to the wash of the jean). Here's the link (http://www.vogue.co.uk/vogue_daily/story/story.asp?stid=14649)

Hey mysticpaladin! Maybe I'll just let you in on some (if not all) of the sales happening in town. Doesn't matter if it's for men or women.

Last weekend (Jan 16 to 18), Robinson's had a mall-wide sale. As usual, I was there to see what was going on. Bought a nice pair of leather shoes (black, semi-pointed, ankle high) for P1315 (50% off) from one of the shops (yes, I can't remember where I bought them from). The department store was just too crowded and, ummm..., pardon me but I just don't dig department store clothes. I always think that if I buy one shirt from them, there'd be about 10,000 other people who would have the same shirt.

Origins in Rustan's has an offer: if you purchase P3,000 worth of products, you get free toiletries (the big sizes, not the minute ones). It's a really good offer.

Carbon and Fino are also on sale. The former (at Greenbelt 3) is slashing 30% off (I think) on all products. Purchased a really nice nylon and leather men's tote for about P1800. Fino is giving out 15 to 70 percent off on leathergoods. Got a nice planner for P550 (from about two thousand something).

Cinderella is on sale (but their clothes can be so ho-hum). Go to the basement, though, and you'll find original branded items like DKNY, Old Navy, and Gap, among others, at really cheap prices. As most of you may already know, some of their stuff are made in the Philippines, so these are export overruns. How did they find their way to Cinderella? I have no idea. Tips for girls: they really have nice DKNY skirts and blouses for only P700-900. Yes, they're originals. Believe me, I can tell if they're fakes. ;)

More sales and shopping updates later. Go easy on the plastic swipes!;)

I don't go for sneakers and rubber shoes though. It just doesn't fit my personality.

I've met some 50+ who wear kickers with much confidence and they look great in `em. It all trickles down to co-ordination, how u choose the right colours, the cut, the style and the miscellaneous accessories you will use to achieve a certain style.
Its definitely worth having a pair of Square toed shoes in a wardrobe because its modern classic. Equally, a pair of the classically cut shoes (rounded semi pointy toed with a tailored/sharp cut) is timeless [Have a look at Dolce and Gabanna and Prada for inspiration] . Hear me out on this one, You can NEVER go wrong with the latter pair.
I always emphasise on investing with the classics FIRST and FOREMOST. WHen you have laid a solid groundwork only then should you occassionally buy chic-fad items that AGREE to your taste, budget and personal styling. By doing this you do not horde unnecessary pieces that are a waste of money and you effectively have a good sized wardrobe that will carry you through in ANY event, in ANY season and still look GOOD.

I think the square toe shoe would never go out of style. It's both a staple and a trendy shoe, if it's made right. As for wearing kickers at your age, just be selective on what you'd wear from them. Kickers is more of a youth brand, i.e., a lot of their shoes are for the more experimental type, so there would be a lot of pairs that would not flatter the taste of someone your age. I don't usually, um, endorse it, but if you're still doubtful that you might buy a bad pair, bring someone with you, like a girl friend or a buddy. See what s/he thinks of it.

On another note, John Galliano debuted with a men's fashion show for the fall 2004 shows. Galliano's signature candy madness was very evident, but he presented a lot of wearable clothes, given they get, um, translated for retail a bit.

Recommended ba ang Kickers for who's in his 30's? (Oops, nagkabukuhan tuloy ng edad.)

Hey talipandas9! Check out Tyler in Glorietta 4. They usually have nice leather shoes there. Also go to Rustan's, Oleg Cassini has nice black square-toed pairs, one style even has a silver buckle (obviously a Gucci copy). Nice one, if you ask me, especially so since it's just priced at P2950.

Square-toed shoes haven't really gone out of style, but if you want to give your ensemble that extra "edge," I suggest you purchase some pointed ones (Tyler has a lot of them).

For more casual ones, you can try Tod's. Kenneth Cole is ok, but the one's they're selling here are seasons old. If money is not an issue, go to Gucci. A bit pricey, but hey, the quality's really good.
Shoe Salon used to have a lot of nice merchandise, but now all they have on display are really really bad ones (for leather shoes, at least). But they do sell nice pairs of Adidas.

Of course you could wear Kickers, just make sure the style isn't too outlandish.

Hope you find a pair(s) you really like.

By the way, check out Steve Madden at the U section of Rustan's. Their shoes go for about P4500 a pair. You could also try Linea Uomo, but am not sure if they have new stocks (went there last Saturday, and they're selling what they had for the past 6 months).

I love the David 7 getup!!!

I'm looking for nice leather flipflops. I found the perfect one, at least for me, at Bally but it's 10 grand. Heck, I'm not ready to spend that much on a pair of flip flops.

I found another one - Costume National - cheaper than Bally but I'm thinking, I don't really need Costume National.

Any suggestions?

Hey jackmcph! Bought a nice pair of leather flip flops from U at Rustan's a year ago (I think they still have them on stock). Costs around P2K. Come to think of it, they were thong sandals. But yes, they do have leather flip flops. Kenneth Cole in Power Plant also has nice flip flops. Check them out.

Thanks for the suggestions laconic. But, I don't want to sound rude (in fact, I'm really thankful for your replies as well as the replies from the other PEX members) but are the brands you suggested within my 3-4 k budget? I must admit 3k or 4k is a bit much for me already but since I buy shoes about twice a year at most, I think it's a worthy investment. Besides, I'm looking more for shoes that goes well with jeans since my work doesn't require a lot of dressing up in semi to formal wear (thank God!).

Hmm.. I've seen Tods at Greenbelt 4 but I think the prices there are beyond my reach. I've seen some interesting pairs from the outside but how much are they anyway?

Shifting to a different topic: Yes, I really like Springfield too. I got a nice looking round neck shirt that goes well with jeans for only (gulp!) P995. More or less, I think it would last longer than my old A/X shirts which cost the same.

If you could only shell out between 3 and 4 thousand bucks, I suggest you go to Rustan's for the Oleg Cassini square-toed I wrote about earlier. (I'm pretty sure you'll like them). Tyler's shoes are within the same price range as well. Go check them out and let me know.

I think what you need is a pair similar to CAMPER shoes. Something that is casual/chic modern that is bold and relaxed. Their website is CAMPER (http://www.camper.com)
With 3-4K could you get a picture of a pair that you like and get them made in Marikina?

Well, saying that something is expensive is really relative. If a person is blessed with cash flowing like the waters of Niagara Falls, then he could easily shell out US1000 for an LV Bastille Messenger Bag and purchase another Hermes Birkin for his wife at US16,000 in a single day without even batting a single eyelash.

But for mere mortals like us whose monthly income is just enough to buy Armani Exchange, then P995 for a shirt could be quite expensive. But then again, it is a matter of perspective. A regular office employee with a regular pay who may not have a very regular taste would definitely save up for a Jimmy Choo or a Helmut Lang even if it would take him/her 5 years to pay for it.

For me, P995 for a shirt could be quite costly if it's just a simple white tee. But if it's something nice like a button-down, I wouldn't mind paying for it. Now only if they could bring that Paul Smith shirt I want to the same price range.

JENSIE_G

ako i don't mind spending 995 bucks on a shirt as long as maganda talaga siya.

A P995 tee is crazy for me. No offense.
But then again, if it's from a good design house with reputation to boot, then I guess I'll give it a second look.

But I still won't buy it. I may like designer brands, but I'm hell as crazy if I'd ever use up my own money to buy one. I'd rather just dig in a very obscure vintage store for a one of a kind tee that's 95% less of what I'd pay for in a designer's boutique (with luck, I might even get the same thing! )

Clothes are my greatest (and worst) addiction. I am now trying my best to set my priorities straight (get an MBA degree and/or a unit at The Columns; stick with workout program). Last weekend I was at the mall and it pained me to go home without buying a single article of clothing. Sigh.

I've always loved bargain hunting but unfortunately, I live in Alabang and I am not aware of any ukay-ukay near our place. I would have to go all the way to Greenhills to buy nice stuff for less.

It also doesn't help when my friends compliment my clothes. It makes me feel pressured to look good all the time. Looking good also is my way of compensating for the lack of love life. It's sad enough not to be in a decent relationship, so why look the part?

BaLdoMarO
Feb 3, 2004, 05:58 AM
Clothes can be a very expensive addiction especially when you're a HUGE 'couture-head'. The trick is to mix your couture pieces with other less expensive assortment. Don't skimp on the accessories as this is essential too. To illustrate an example picture this:

Plain White form fitting Puritan T-Shirt- P100
Ray Ban sunnies - $US120
Funky Watch from your wardrobe- P1,000+
Vintage Indigo Dyed Jeans (no name but excellent fit)- P500
A pair of Havana Thongs (Spartan 'tsinelas')- P30
Vintage Messenger Bag in Army Green - P450

Grand Total------------------------------ P7680

contrast this with the same outfit but branded

Plain White form fitting T-Shirt from Paul Smith- P8,000
Ray Ban sunnies - P7000
Funky Ceramix Watch from Rado - P60,000
Helmut Lang Vintage Indigo Dyed Jeans - P21,000
A pair of Birkenstock Sandals- P3,000
Louis Vuitton Messenger Bag- P60,000

Grand Total------------------------------------ P159,000

Which of the two would you choose:?:

Hehehe... I am not a fashion plate or something. Although I am addicted to clothes, it isn't really something that I live for (I'd like to think so). In fact, most of the time, I am clad in your typical shirts, jeans or gym clothes. I still think that being understated is the best way to go. And there are times when I just really feel lazy to even think about what to wear. I haven't tried wearing plain white tee and dark jeans. But I have tried other combinations which to my surprise generated some compliments: crisp white shirt and black shorts; red t-shirt with U.S. flag design and blue jeans; salmon pink shirt and black pants. And these were the times when I didn't really feel like dressing up. Sometimes, the less effort, the better the results.

I've just checked out the new shows in New York, and it highlighted the rather bad state of menswear shows in New York. Very few designers have shown complete men's collections (maybe that's the reason why John Varvatos returned to NY from Milan last season).

On the other hand, those that have men's clothes in their shows seem to be the strongest statements for the last couple of seasons. Michael Kors, for instance, is definitely justifying his winning the CFDA award for men's designer of the year, with a strong show focused on evening (his suits are rather impeccable). He used his favourite palatte for fall, brown, black, chocolate, but it had splashes of colour that kept it interesting.

Marc by Marc Jacobs also had the fall colours on his mind, but it is his layering and mixing of knits, cardigans and sweats that stole the limelight. Plus there were several piquant Louis Vuitton-ish vintage bags slung by the guys.

The_Seeker: Jackets are everywhere (but I don't see much use for them throughout the year except during the holidays as the Philippines is too hot to justify wearing 2 layers of clothing), but anyway, if you like athletic jackets, there are choices in whoops, bench, U at Rustans, and Anonymous. Check out urban jackets at Fubu and American Boulevard, and structured (I don't really know how to name 'em) ones at Springfield, Tyler, Celio, and Topman.

The photo on his article was taken from the January GQ US magazine (I'm not sure of the month, but it's the one with Orlando Bloom on the cover), it had a rather indepth fashion section, talking about the spring 2004 menswear shows, a life of a male model, and a the look for less men's version (they seem to be doing that a lot lately). have any idea where i can get nice low rise jean? i've found one store and it's levi's. it's 518 and it's for P1600+ something. if there's a brand much cheaper, probably you can suggest one. and also where can i find the stores/malls that have it.

JENSIE_G

try BENCH.

mga 649-749 bucks lang mga jeans nila. marami pang variety.

dun ang takbuhan ko pag wala akong magustuhan sa LEVI'S...

Well, I'm not sure if Bench has low-rise jeans, though. Topman's Blagger jeans line are all low rise - but as for the price, well.... :teehee:

bench doesn't have low rise jeans. i checked out lee jean's website and i found some there. i dunno if those styles are available here. haven't dropped by glorietta for quite some time.

natanong kolang about low rise kasi i have no pair of that style yet. and i think i like how it looks like. medyo ganun din naman akong magpantalon, hindi talaga sakto sa waist.

thanks for the info.

hoop_master: yup. bench doesn't have low rise. If you're out of options, go get the Levis pants you mentioned. It is after all, a good brand.

I just came from Glorietta today. Most of the stores are having a sale, Levis included.

ok. another question. those vintage looking shirts, are they only available in ukay-ukay stores?

alam nyo rin ba kung nasan yung "tonic" na store?

urban outfitters usually sell those pop/ commemorative shirts. pero wala noon sa pinas eh. try mo sa people are people.

if you are one of the regular ukay ukay shopper. baka mamahalan ka sa diesel. (pwede na ba akong promoter ng diesel? bukang bibig ko na ang diesel sa thread na to eh!)

Hello! I miss PExing... just came back from Iloilo....

Hey I've got big news. Nag-clearance sale ang TYLER sa Glorietta last weekend!!! I was able to find a bargain treasure: a utilitarian shirt originally priced at P2500++ and got it for only P995!!! Imagine! I hope the sale is still ongoing, as I am eyeing this blue wrap-around shirt.

diesel is so expensive.

i usually buy those odd looking tees at american blvd. i bought a couple four years back. and they're still wearable.

i like jag's and lee's / lee pipes' styles...

include bench for the pants.

JENSIE_G
Mar 16, 2004, 07:18 AM

Chase_Meridian: I flipped when I saw Tyler had a sale! :) I bought a bad-*** jacket for P1350 - the deal of the century!

Hoop_master: Levis was also on sale. I haven't been to Glorietta yet to check whether they are still on sale, but I'm guessing they still are. I wouldn't really bank on getting a great deal (like 50%) there, as most of the jeans on the bargain bin are for women or are on enormous sizes. I did get a nice denim shirt that looks like a safari jacket for P600 last year I think. That was neat. I have nothing against Diesel, I just think their jeans are too expensive - I'd settle for a mid-range brand like TopMan. As for vintage clothing, well, if you're talking about the Philippines' ukay-ukay, there's no guarantee you'd find one, but it doesn't hurt to dig in (especially if you know where to look in Baguio). Go to the states for actual vintage clothes stores. :)

Pardon my ignorance on this but, where in G4 is Tyler located? I must admit that I'm not much of a Glorietta or Ayala Center habitue since I live in downtown Manila and I'm quite satisfied already with the malls here in the City of Manila. But of course, I do get the rare chance to be in Makati and look at the shops that aren't found in Manila.

I know that the A/X store is at G4 which is in front of Mossimo. Mossimo in turn is in front of Florsheim (or diagonally across A/X). Florsheim is in front of Marks and Spencer.

Speaking of Marks and Spencer, Blue Harbour has a vintage line of shirts that's made of really, really soft cotton but it's priced kinda high for me at 1800+! Is this the type of vintage shirts that's being raved about here lately?

By the way, what's your take on Marlboro Classic clothes for men? I don't see many people wearing this brand.

What do you think is the most popular men's clothing store owned by Store Specialists?

JENSIE_G
Mar 18, 2004, 06:08 PM
talipandas9: wow! memoryado mo ang ground level ng g4 ah.

mahal ang blue harbour. kaka-turn off mamili sa m&s nowadays. mas marami pang brands dyan na better quality for cheaper prices.

marlboro is ridiculously expensive kaya di mabenta. maganda sana boots and hats nila pero i don't think bagay dito sa pinas. :glee:

As for blue harbour, Jensie's right. The brand's rather expensive. It's almost as pricey as Lacoste.

A store brought here by Store specialist? Gucci. or any of the stores in Greenbelt 4 that was brought here by SS.

Here are a couple of jean fits (men's jeans, specifically):

Straight cut - the pant is cut straight from the waist down to the leg.

Bootcut - either straight or slim from the waist to the legs, and it gets a bit roomier towards the ankles. It's made to accommodate boots without creasing.

Flares - same thing as bootcut, except it's even more roomy. Flares are different from bell bottoms, though.

Tapered - the grandaddy pants. Straight at the waist, but it gets narrower going down.

Slim fit - same thing as Straight cut, except it's, well, slimmer (duh).

Thanks mysticpaladin for the directions regarding Tyler. I will try to visit it probably tomorrow or on Sunday.

Yes, Blue Harbour is expensive but I think it's more worthi it compared to Lacoste. Lacoste shirts seem to wear easily these days with the kind of cottom material they are using. Hmm...

JENSIE_G
Mar 19, 2004, 04:35 PM
Lacoste shirts shrink easily. Yun ang major flaw nila.

And yes of course... mas mura naman ang Blue Harbour compared sa Lacoste, to say the least.

clawed_out
Mar 19, 2004, 07:15 PM
i agree with jensie_g: i have quite a few la coste shirts that have shrunk quite a few inches. so, i always buy shirts from that store one size larger than my usual.

i like the track suits of la coste though. bling bling hahaha

Or is it similar with low-waist?

paging mysticpaladin... i think you should answer juan_hustler's question...

mysticpaladin
Mar 20, 2004, 12:27 AM
juan_hustler: This is rather tricky. Well, in the bluntest way I can put it, those jeans rise lower from the, um, butt section. Gets? Ganito na lang, a regular rise jean measure about 10 inches from the waist down to the beginning of the pant leg, while a low-rise is about 8.

They naturally sit on the mid of the waist, lower than a regular rise jean. A low-waist jean, on the other hand, is intentionally worn below the waist or sagged. This is achieved usually by just buying a pair of jeans 1 or two sizes larger than one's waist line.

American Boulevard did release a line of vintage inspired men's clothes a while back, there are still some on the racks, I believe. Buying stuff from Levis isn't a bad deal since the brand is built on reputation and function, so you're getting the best bang for you buck.
