duh!!!

I HOPE DE LA SALLE UNIVERSITY will top this year! we've been topping the CPA exam for years now!!!

but in fairness, UP - Diliman, UP - Visayas, UST and USC in Cebu are good too. they have a chance, lagi kong nakikita yang mga schools na 'yan sa TOP 20. :) And they are always behind LASALLE sa mga top performing schools.

GOOD LUCK LA SALLIAN Examinees!!!

most likely, DLSU will not top this sem. the DLSU grads take the board on May, dahil sa trimester system nila. kaya nga lagi silang nagta-top...kapag May board exams.

kapag October, medyo madalas diyan ang UP Diliman.

I bet UST and UP ang maglalaban this October.

Ang DLSU kasi May ang season nila eh.

ErwinRafael
Oct 20, 2003, 01:39 AM

well, i'm just hoping that the improvements we have been instituting to the program would bear fruit. jumping from a 19% to a 34-40% passing rate was already an achievement. sana matuloy-tuloy namin. :)

well, to be fair to DLSU, as noted earlier in this thread, MAY Board exams ang regular takers nila. ang October takers nila, irregular.

it's like viewing what is the passing percentage of UST or UP during May. hindi naman kasingtaas ng October, di ba?

Once again, you have proven your supremacy in the field of Accountancy.

Pero, ba’t meron bumagsak from UPD?

well, to be fair to DLSU, as noted earlier in this thread, MAY Board exams ang regular takers nila. ang October takers nila, irregular.

it's like viewing what is the passing percentage of UST or UP during May. hindi naman kasingtaas ng October, di ba?

Nagpapaka-hero ka na naman dito, engotz!

Last May, taga UP po ang nag top sa CPA. Nuff said.

Surprisingly, the Top 5 (fifth year) BAA students of UP who represented UP in the FINEX competition this month ended up in 3rd place only. Ateneo's team, which was comprised mainly of 3rd year Mgt. Eng. students (i.e., no finance majors), ended up in 2nd place. The sad part is, UP almost lost to University of San Carlos and could have landed in 4th place.

just to put things in perspective... the students who topped the CPA exam this year were part of the FINEX team last year. This team was fell one question short of first place last year.

The FINEX team that ended at 3rd place will be taking the exam next year. But I also remember that Ateneo, USC and UP were all tied up until the last question.

Congrats to the successful examinees! :)

La Salle may have a lower passing % this month (due to the irregular students), but take note that DLSU-Manila was conferred by the Professional Regulations Commission (PRC) an Achievement Award for topping Category 2 (51-99 examinees) of the CPA board exams in a period of 5 years. Over that 5-year period (1996-2000), DLSU achieved a 70% passing rate followed by UP Visayas (38%) and PLM (31%).

wrong. he let his children study in up to prove a point that state/public shools' quality is not really deteriorating, and has nothing to do with up's being the best. he even lamented that public education is indeed a mess. i've heard him speak several times about the philippine public/state educational system, and he would always have something to say about the sad state of public education (grade school/HS/and even college). and by supporting up, he's giving back what he can to help the poor students studying at the supposedly "poor man's university".

and as for the donation, he once jokingly said that the donation he made to up was "for each sycip who studied there and abused the system." :)

mas maganda ang October results against May results since most of the regular students all over the philippines ay kumukuha.

anyway, the ff schools are always consistent sa performance.( 505 above passing ave)

Metro Manila

UP-diliman
UST
DLSU-Manila

Visayas

UP-Visayas
Univ. of St. La Salle
Silliman Univ.
UP-Tacloban

Mindanao

I dont want to sound rude or anything, but definitely he is a certified graduate of the Royal and Pontifical University of Santo Tomas. Look at his scholastic records, I'm very sure it does not read "University of the Philippines".

According to an article in the Varsitarian (UST's official newspaper-- 75 years) His fondest memories of the university he says is that it taught him discipline because UST was a strict catholic school. The University of Santo Tomas, being situated in a slowly congesting concrete jungle of Manila, was the best university that time for business. During his days, there were only two schools: The liberals went to UP and the conservative went to UST (which is the Catholic UP -- a distinction recognized and given by the world). When he goes to school (UST) he would even commute in the typical manila jeepney. Furthermore, UST's humble way of education (despite being a royal university as bequeath by the church) taught him to start from the bottom; gleaning the two important ingredient for success (perseverance and academic competence) from UST he was able to make a zenith on his own. He also taught for a brief period at the old UST College of Commerce. He was always a thomasian, he did not have to shout it to the world but he brings with him the excellence that UST has always taken pride in every graduate that she has produced THROUGH THE AGES.

Another thing I want to emphasize and give further depth: Why is it that every UST graduate mentioned and acclaimed is always claimed by other schools? You have claimed our writers (Cristina Pantoja Hidalgo, Jose Wendell Capili etc..), our philosophers, our doctors, our architects, and now even our commerce graduates. [You have even stereotyped UST as the fourth university.] Just because they serve and teach in other schools make them authentic [whatever school] graduates? UST has always succored other schools' academic fortitude and it has been the pattern eversince, yet we are always singled out in the business of education of which UST started. We are second in terms of centers of excellence, we have dominated in general different board licensure examinations, we have produced highly erudite individuals that man different institutions, we have a lot of recognition abroad, and we are the oldest university in asia. What do we get in return? We are treated as a bunch of illiterates and Jologs from España Avenue in Manila. Do you have a copy of their transcript of records? This is really sickening! Hope this becomes an eye-opener for the guy always fond of using numerous alternicks just to tarnish UST's academic and royal pillar tested by time and fortified by equity.

As an ender: Congratulations to all the CPAs! Make this nation proud! :) The end.

that is, if a writer is a tomasian...

but what baffles me is when Sycip is being interviewed for international media or prints, he only mentioned one school in the Philippines and expectedly, it wasn’t UST. It has always been, UP, the obvious better school. No one ever heard him talking of UST.

Sycip loves UP so much. Two bold things he has done for UP, something he never had done to other schools have manifested his love for this great university:

1. He sent all his smart children and even grandchildren to UP despite having been accepted by Ivy League schools in the US.
2. He gives more endowments to UP than to his own alma mater.

Bottom line here: UST is a somewhat okay school but never can this school be considred very good. It has always been a back-up school of the so-called, "big-3". UST has managed to produce top-ten placers in board exams from time to time but rarely a top-notcher or much more, a top-performing school.

UP is the best! It frequently produces board top-notchers and always dominates the top-ten placers in any government licensure examination. UP always emerges as the top performing school since it sends off takers in the board exam.

Peace.
