What do we mean by Metro Manila anyway? NCR (with QC, navotas etc)? or Manila itself?

Kung NCR:
UP - spacious, green
Ateneo - same
Miriam - same
UST - its a big and green historical-looking campus, but outside... no comment. It does not agree.
DLSU - Same with UST. It does not agree with the environment.

this is basically for all the univesities in metro manila (manila,qc and near by places) and better if you'll include universities from other places in the philippines which you think is better looking from the universities in the metro.:D

up diliman is really big, thats all i can say.
but in metro manila, it thinks its ust. the designs of the building are classic and the campus itself seems to be planned well.
i also like the ateneo campus, sarap maglakad lakad especially in the morning.

cool naman yung buildings ng la salle but my personal favorite is the Angelo King International Center (?) near Singalong

I like UP Diliman too, pero di magaganda ang mga buildings, nasanay na kasi ako sa hi-tech facilities e, so when i went to UP, parang...ay, ang bulok naman ng mga buildings dito.

Sa ateneo walang aircon, but the ambiance is just ok. sa ust parang nakakatakot, kasi baka biglang umulan, di ako marunong mag-langoy.

I reckon you're not going to like the campuses of Oxford, Cambridge, Bristol, Durham and St. Andrews in the United Kingdom because their academic facilities/buildings are much, much "bulok" than UP's...

Btw, I just cited some of the top universities in the English speaking world...

Speaking of Oxford and the others however, their reputation precedes them. To speak of UP on the same level I think is a bit much... for someone from another campus in another country, UP, sadly, does need better maintenance. Older UP graduates will admit that much - the campus is in need of some tlc.

I know! Too bad they don't turn on the Lights of Hope anymore..... I was walking home from Moro one night, and I cut through Bellarmine field, and there I was, all alone in the middle of the field, surrounded by all these lights. Pretty overwhelming and beautiful. My friends and I would sometimes have an evening picnic on Bell field too.

grabe ang UST...para kang nasa panahon ng kastila ( except for the hospital part). sobrang nice! i like their campus so much! tamang-tama lang ang size.

sobrang laki ang UP, close to nature talaga ang dating! good thing they reclaimed the Arboretum from the informal settlers.

the best talaga sakin eh yung sa ateneo! ewan ko kung bakit. i dont like thier buildings that much (i like the jg-som building though.....)

dlsu is clean. neat siya. i like the yuchengco building.

miriam.....wow! daming puno!

im sticking to my first choices. The best parin sakin yung UP, admu and miriam. runner up ang UST.

I would have to agree that UST is a breath of fresh air in sleazy Sampaloc. The well-planned and maintained interiors of the campus is a far cry from what you would see from its exteriors.
The architecture, UST of which is Baroque architecture with Hispanic influences, is similar to European institutions of higher learning.

Not really.
Most university buildings in those European universities that I have visited do not look the same with that building that stood in the midpoint of Santo Tomas University. I was surprised to see that nearly all academic buildings in most European universities, including the universities of Madrid, Spain; University of Paris, France; HEC, Paris and INSEAD, France are modern and are made up of a combination of glass, aluminum and “polished” Italian granite.

The London School of Economics (LSE) endows with an ambiance similar to that of our UA&P’s whilst the University College London (UCL), one of the Federal universities of the prestigious, UNIVERSITY OF LONDON, is somewhat reminiscent of UP Diliman, the Philippines’ most famous and most prestigious university.

The University of Warwick in Coventry, England, one of the more established and most respected universities in Europe is pretty much modern. If the Philippines’ ADMU is only bigger, it would have the resemblance of that school, physically or otherwise… you should visit Warwick on the fall…

Even the Oxbridge – Oxford and Cambridge, the top two in the UK or the world, do not resemble like UST’s. The Oxbridge campuses are university towns like UP – Los Banos in Laguna. In other words, each of these universities has a campus size as big as a town and even the activities of each of these towns are centered, consolidated or centralized en route for the university. Although, I have not seen the campus of Silliman University in Dumaguete City, I’ve got some pointers that suggest: the city of Dumaguete is practically one-half of the University of Silliman and its economy is pretty much dependent on the university. I really could not envisage what Oxford City is without Oxford University…

So, I guess this leads me to believe that UST is UST by it-self – distinct and physically incomparable by universities famous in the other parts of the globe. Its architectural designs, though copied from an old European architecture, project an aura divergent of its class and category. I am not from Santo Tomas University and I am a big fond of contemporary designs and architecture, but I enjoy the richness of culture and architecture the Spanish people has left us with, that can be translated to what is now, UST.

UP Diliman is the best and the most beautiful university campus in the country. In addition to that, it has the best collection of beautiful people and the best collection of the smartest students in Asia.

campus ba?
Miriam - same with Ateneo. feast your eyes. hehehe...
:peace:

I go for big campuses. Mas masarap sa pakiramdam

For Scenery
UP .. ang lawak kaya ng Diliman..

For Buildings
UST. Good mixture of Old and New architecture

DLSU.

Ive never been inside FEU, pero they say OK din daw....

UST - for the Main Bldg., TARC, and everything in the Benavides Garden (with "the" sinologist's graffiti, hehehe)
ADMU - for the Church of Gesu (awesome).

UST>> Nice. Close to nature, tahimik, an island of scenery amidst the pollution outside it's walls.

AdMU>> Nice too... too big though... madaming puno, ayos din ang buildings... quite OK.

UP>> WAY TOO BIG!! Parang gubat sa loob!! no wonder hindi nahuhuli mga fraternity rituals sa sobrang laki... puwede ka na siguro magshoot ng Tarzan film in some areas... nakatakot pag gabi!!

DLSU>> WAY TOO SMALL!! TOO CONGESTED!! Ngeeks hazarduous masyado for my health... advantage siguro is hindi malayo yun lalakarin kapag nagpapalit ng rooms... YUN LANG.

Don't put yourself in a position where you are always at the top just because you are being educated in the oldest and known academic institution in Asia (or from any reputable academic institution). Just because you're a Thomasian doesn't dictate you as the most intelligent around (just like the rest of the bashers). There are no guarantees that you will succeed or not after you graduate just like anyone else (from any school). Besides, most of these institutions have been around even way before you have been eduacated from the start and they vary from level of education depending on their specific courses intended for those who dreamed "I want to be" (and this applies as well to the rest of the bashers) and had the opportunity of getting education unlike the more unfortunate.

Want to be identified as an educated person then act like one. Want to be identified as a Thomasian then be like a Thomasian. One thing Thomasians are known for: TOLERANCE. Learn it, live it, love it. A former Thomasian has done so against an entire Spanish occupation over a hundred years ago in a preach of non-violence with either verbal words or writing, died for his country, but his name is still being taught to those of early age. His name: Jose Rizal.

As for the bashers, let them continue their attacks and claims. It just clearly shows the level of their education and the shame they bring from the four walls of their learning institution.

ust campus is comforting for those who seek tranquility, the buildings makes every passerby go back in time and experience once again the old glory of colonial time, i dont claim that i know everything but one thing i notice every building in UST has some sense of history and these buildings inside the campus reflect the almost 400 years history and glory that is UST. Every building possess not only brilliance in architecture but also reflect the character of the colleges, faculties and institutes it shelters through time.

onething I have always been proud of UST is the way our campus make us feel that we're part of something historical something that is distinctly thomasian...no matter how the campus evolved through time it has maintained the character that makes it home for us, thomasians.

Ofcourse technology as others would say had taken over almost all the major universities in the world(not only here in the philippines) but even so..the dominicans kept its tradition and character by maintaining the campus as it was before, there maybe some polishing here-and-there but the charater and the essense of this nice comforting campus is always of paramount importance to them than anything else....

just a a two cents advise for thomasians now love the campus for when the time come for you to leave the four corners of our espana campus you'd always feel that you'll be leaving something great and close to your heart and will come only to see it through photos and memories...frankly i love ust and will forever do so for i have a lot of great memories of this nice, historical campus.

Very inspiring words from a true thomasian, Dunedain. I'm sure Jose Rizal, a thomasian, is very proud of you for keeping the thomasian fervor alive. :)

Anyway, the UST campus at first glance appeals to the overlooking visitor, because simply words cannot entirely describe what the picturesque campus looks like but still words of admiration escapes the visitor fast. "The campus looks old"-- but that's exactly what makes this big 22-hectare University of Santo Tomas' campus enticing. Its campus very much holds on to its fine tradition of architecture. The campus adheres to the intricate and detailed meaning of architecture as shown in its european-inspired building with an artistic finish. The same way that it defined architecture in the Philippines. The new UST campus was constructed in 1928. The oldest university under the colonial american flag.

The UST campus also became a camp for the Japanese Imperial forces. When, valiantly, a man named MANUEL COLAYCO, UST professor, helped in liberating the campus which ended his life. The UST campus is home to many cries of the past, for many people cried and bled right in this campus.

The UST campus is found in Sampaloc, Manila. Passing by its millennium gate one will be greatly enamored by the arch of the century with an inscription dedicated to esteemed thomasians such as Jose Rizal and Manuel Luis Quezon who have brought pride to the Catholic University of the Philippines, and their remarkable contribution will be part and parcel of the history of the Philippines. The arch of the century also serves as a memory of the old UST campus which used to be standing in the walled city, Intramuros. The old campus was destroyed because of the war, and the university door's remnants were put together to be reconstructed as the now-known arch of the century.

One will also be attracted to the benavidez park found at the center of the campus. There stands the old statue of Fr. Benavidez, the founder of the University of Santo Tomas. The statue was casted in the 19th century and is regarded as one of manila's forgotten statues. Just behind it stands the "church-looking" main building. The statues found atop the building were made by a european artist. The main building also nearly "bankrupt" the dominican order because it was too expensive. The building scintillates in the evening, highlighting its edges and the dominican cross stands in blue. The building also has the distinction of being the country's first earthquake-proof building.

The campus is simply invigorating. Because it has mini-parks inside. The colayco park, the tinoko park, the newly-constructed TARC park, the statues of saints and the wide field just in front of the campus. The parade grounds was once the avenue for the World Youth Day 1995, when his most holiness, the Pope, visited the "university world" he proudly declared. Also when the president gloria macapagal arroyo visited the campus she lauds UST for having sustained its catholic brand. She would know better, because her parents became achievers, met, fell in love and taught at the university.

:)

not to be bias pero for me the best looking campus is the campus na hindi lang magandang tingnan sa labas... pati na din sa loob...

and since i only took my entrance tests in DLSU, UP, ADMU, and UST... it will be fair enough for me to judge the four...

when i took the test in UP, a couple of steps from the car to the building, ang natapakan ko na ay gum... yung room parang hindi inaayos though wala akong nakita na masyadong kalat... yun lang yung nakita ko sa UP

then "D ATENEO"... the place is great.... maganda atmosphere...

DLSU... super linis... as in mahihiya kang magkalat... rooms are great as well... very spacious ang comfort rooms.... smoke-free pa... ang di lang maganda is yung labas, pero sa loob it's a whole new world

UST... from españa to the canteen of UST to the ladies room to the classroom, everywhere i go was a mess... lalo na yung ladies' room... it was awwwwwwful...

nope... just my opinion... i can still remember it clearly... super traffic so they dropped me sa espana... tapos when i entered UST... i thought i was going to be late so i hustle up to the assigned building... but i saw the long long line outside the building and the people said that there was no need to be hasty... so i went to the canteen na ang gulo and ang kalat....
then pumila ako ng super tagal... then pinapasok kami sa building... then i decided to drop by the ladies room first tapos ang dumi din... no need for further description... tapos the room naman may bottles pa ng mineral water and candy wrappers...

Meyrs17 Its only natural, its not a normal scene inside UST during the school days. Entrance examination days are the expected days when people congest the university, weary and curious, they accidentally scatter some paper and eat a lot all around the university.

When I took an entrance exam at another university (some time ago :D) that big luscious campus (UP) was also a mess, nobody would really restrict anyone from entering the campus since it is public property. This is one place vendors can easily penetrate and sell their goods; just imagine their sales sky-rocketting unlike the usual days since they know people from all-over the country will flock towards their location. The unbearable heat combined with the high influx of smoky automobiles compel an exhausted visitor to feast his eyes over some "palamig" sold along the streets. I'm not bashing UP ok? :)

Vendors proliferating the university path, cups scattered and plastic comfort room stations effluent with you-know-what by we-don't-know-who examinees. As simple as that.

ADMU is an exemption though, their campus has always been better than the rest, IMHO. As for DLSU, lets just say it's situated in the concrete jungle of Manila (same place with UST), when no day is a beautiful day. :D DLSU is a very nice (and expensive) looking campus, what surrounds it is definitely not.

The two-floor parking of the University of Santo Tomas, is supposed to be a 7-floor parking (as I can clearly remember), just like in the malls we use to see nowadays. But, the original blueprint design caused repugnance among the university administrators, because it will definitely obstruct the view of the 75-year-old main building from españa avenue (for pictures you may want to surf USTs website: www.ust.edu.ph) and of which the dominican order has been preserving for posterity.

Believe me, the dominicans will do everything just to preserve that revered landmark of great antiquity, because it nearly bankrupt the dominican order almost 75 years ago. The statues above the UST main building were constructed by european artists and it has a distinctive architecture with intricate details adhering to the old architectural philosophy UST has always been graced with. In addition, the UST main building has the distinction of being it the "first earthquake proof building" in the Philippines. :)

i agree. makikita mo na parang ang sikip sa lasalle whenever it's 10 mins transition time or if it's U-Break... it's very apparent in SJ walk... buti na lang students follow the keep right rule kahit walang sign na nakalagay na keep right...

the bright side about it is ang saya coz ang dami kong nakitkita...

To aquinatis, what are you trying to imply???? nakapunta ka na ba sa CR ng FEU ngayon o sa CR ng FEU-NRMF? lahat ng campus may kanya kanyang baho kaya wag mong iinsultuhin CR namin para lang mapabango CR ng UST!!!! nananahimik kaming mga taga feu kaya wag mo kaming idamay!:wolv: peace!

Few people know how La Salle looks like inside because the entire campus is not open to the public and is heavily guarded. Just because Taft Ave surrounding it is ugly (although Atienza is slowly beautifying it) they perceive that DLSU looks the same inside. Nice pics archerguy! :)

hi to everyone! it's really funny how we Filipinos 'fight' each other on a lot of things.

here's my opinion: i think each school is unique, has its own pluses and minuses.

what we should do: generally, we should criticize things in such a way that it brings more benefits than losses.

i believe that each one of us should be thankful enough that we are enjoying the benefits each of our school has offered. the last time i checked the figures of those who are out of school youth - it's increasing at an alarming rate. for that you are all more blessed.

although, the question is really what is the most beautiful school in metro manila, everyone should divert his/her attention to a particular school in question. at most you get to know more about other schools (i.e., their campus). the least you can do is appreciate them. i mean, even if you don't get to study in UP, ateneo, la salle, UST, or other schools all in a span of your entrie college or post college life (unless, you hop from one school to the other), you get a 'feel' of them. in the end, you get the 'feel' of the education system in the Philippines in general even if it means you are only referring to the structures of the schools. and in so doing, you get to analyze some things about our country. who knows, you might be interested in pursuing goals related to the improvement of the 'education system' of the country.

well, i don't intend to preach. it's just that, there's no need to fight. beauty is highly an individual's view. and more or less, it's all about individual's preferences.

i guess, i'm the one who's benefited by all your arguments. you see, i'm pursuing a research on the structures of educational system of the country as a requirement for my masters' degree. i'm studying a graduate programme here at the university of namur, belgium.

thanks to all! cheers to all philippine colleges and universities!!!

p.s. i suggest you should all post your respective schools' pictures.

I've been inside the FEU campus. I like the mini-monument of soldiers. I think it was crafted by a national artist (?), the artist's name escaped me, but I think that's it.

I like the trees inside, it's like a mini-park wherein students can study and talk together. Finally, a relief from morayta's discouraging environment.

I know manila's no paradise (and by the looks of it, never will be), i just hope some politicians can do something to clean and secure the university belt area.

I had a schoolmate in HS who once told me that when they visited the FEU campus to inquire about the entrance exam, they saw one student threatening another with a knife... immediately upon seeing it, they left without securing an application form...

As for the best looking campus, I'd definitely go for UST.. it's like having a european setting of a campus right at the heart of a dusty and crowded city...

I personally don't like UP's... may palengke eh... la lang.

Ateneo's campus is also ok for me... I'm not sure ha, but when we went there to watch a UAAP game, medyo maputik yung parking space...

Lasalle's campus?? it's too congested for me to admire.. the buildings are nice but the campus in general, I don't like it..

I believe there are lots of ghosts in UST though I am yet to see one of 'em..

Then you would definitely not going to like the campuses of Oxford and Cambridge. These two university towns have "palengke" in the heart of the university vicinity. I do understand. ooops... Ngayon ko lang nabasa to. A friend of mine once invited us to visit their photo exhibit last summer in UP. When we were searching for places where we can have our lunch, we came across a pedicab terminal. Of course I didn't bother to conduct a research or even ask people where we were exactly at since one of us knew already where we were heading to. Wala pa ngang bubong yung pedicab eh. Nagkukulitan pa nga kami eh. Race daw kami. This also answers the query "Saan yung palengke sa UP?" I saw it but then again didn't even bother to ask whether it was still part of the UP Campus, since sa kakaikot namin around UP, nakita ko lang sya. And that's basically my ground why I personally don't find UP's campus enticing.

charlie_g: basta ako pumasa sa UPCAT. and don't be petty about it. besides, yours is another obviously illogical conclusion. i need not explain it any further. all this time i thought UP students are good in analysis and logic... or maybe you aren't from UP, yes?

Sus, stop the pretense!
No one does ever bother to readily admit that he/she flunked in a collegiate entrance test. This happened in most high schools.
Maybe you can even boost your claim by saying you also have made it in Harvard or Yale. :(

having passed the UPCAT for me is not really something colossal to be proud of... I only took two entrance tests, UPCAT and the USTET. To tell you honestly, I only managed to pass my second choice in those two exams (quota course pa yung sa UP).

UST's campus will be more beautiful now especially so the Christmas season is on! I can't wait to see the Main Building with its imposing facade lit by those maginificent lights!

Anyway, I can't wait to see the Main building during the Paskuhan.

to answer the question. so far ang pinakamaganda kong napuntahan eh, Ateneo, UST and UP-Diliman.

Our school may be small, pero ok din naman sa loob, but with the construction of new MRT4, parang lalong magbubukang congested ang Beda.

I was pretty surprised that San Beda was that big. I've been there to adjudicate in debate competition and I noticed that the convening hall was remarkably huge. My stay there would have been perfect if not for a tree branch that fell from the tree I was sitting under. hehe :glee:

And yes, Ateneo looks good too. UPD can be great too if you know where (not) to look.

ok naman ang ust, except for that overpass in front of the campus, panira talaga sa view.

Gusto ko rin yung sa dlsu kaso ang hirap lang ng parking, pero gusto ko talaga yung loob after going there 2 weeks ago.
