Too bad this year's Paskuhan in UST coincided with our office Christmas party.

But it's great to know that the event was a major success and that lots of people, outsiders included, were able to enjoy the affair.

astig nang paskuhan this year, overflowing ang food at ang daming tao talaga sobrang festive sa loob ng campus nung miyerkules. ust lang ang may ganitong celebration na talaga namang dinadadayo pa pati ng mga di taga uste. ang ganda ng fireworks, at ang campus ng ust and star lahat yata nang mga bagong pumunta duon walang masabi kundi wow ganito pala sa uste pag pasko.

salamat kay fr. dela rosa at sobrang supportive sya sa event na to kahit magastos basta masaya ang lahat ng tomasino pati ang ating mga bisita ok lang.

from yung mga traditional ceremony upto the bands pati ang laser show sa itaas ng main at fireworks sobrang memorable sa akin ang paskuhan na ito.. mahal ko na talaga ang uste ang syempre pinagmamalaki ko ang UST Campus talagang kay ganda.

nag grid lock din sa espana ng nag fireworks na, even commuters along boulevard stopped to take a look at the spectacle in the sky. sa 2011 im sure the vatican will send its emissary to participate in the festivities - it maybe the pope himself, and dignitaries around the world will extend their regards to the now 400yr old institution.

an assistant to the rector told me some plans for the 2011 celebration:
1. Fireworks from the four corners of the campus, one at a time, each symbolizing 100 years.
2. Inviting the pope, the king of spain, all past rectors and the president of the philippines.
3. Laser/fireworks that would spell UST 400
4. They also plan of invitng the Phil. Phil-Harmonic orchestra w/ the UST orchestra to perform together.

after looking at all the ust pictures, i can say that ust's buldings are truly majestic.
but if "best-looking" means having lots and lots of green spaces just like the western universities, then definitely, my own school, UP DILIMAN, is the BEST.

The extravagance of UST this 2007 Paskuhan

I attended the Paskuhan in UST yesterday. The fireworks, which lasted for about 15 minutes was amazing. I heard that for the fireworks alone, the university spent about half a million. That price tag for the fireworks display does not include the cost for the decors and all those impressive lights and laser.

The university also fed around 20,000 students. Food were provided by Shakey's, Mc Donald's, Burger King and Jollibee.

I think this year's paskuhan was the most extravagant.

I don't think it's too late to implement the Burnham Plan for Manila. Perhaps, Mayor Alfredo Lim can tap the city's architecture schools (Mapua, UST, TIP, Adamson, PUP, MLQU, etc.) to execute that plan and turn it into reality. Then, leading landscape architects like I.P. Santos and Paolo Alcazaren can design the city's parks and gardens, except for Rizal Park and Paco Park (both parks are under the control of the National Parks Development Committee).

This is in Calamba, Laguna. I remember when they held a spelling bee there last year, my last year in HS wherein we placed first ;). The contest proper was held in the Jose Rizal hall; we could smell the cement and sand while we were spelling the words out :lol: . We had our merienda in the E.T. Yuchengco hall G/F. Then there was a science fair on the second and third floor of this hall - there were rocks, shells, robots and Apple products. :love:

I remember that oval track being barren, without paint and covered with sand.

As mentioned above, most of the P250 million seems to have been used to acquire the land. It seems to me that the garden isn't going to last very long. When they find an alternate use for the land that brings in some cash flow, the garden will be torn up.

But for the Ue community, its one great thing to have this garden inside the campus.

Because of its limited land area (5 hectares), ang mga matataas na buildings, marble floors, first class facilities (each classroom has its own overhead projector, each floor has its own TV set), fully air-conditioned classrooms and conference rooms ang pambawi ng DLSU.

iAcademy for me is best...located kami sa mkati and dito iba ang feeling coz all the time nakakasabay ko mga CEO's, owners and managers from different companies. unlyk kac sa u-belt area,students...students...puro students.... at tke note less pollution dito unlyk sa mla,papasok ka pa *** hagard ka ng tignan. :)

That art exhibit is ridiculously beautiful. Indeed an eye candy inside the Loyola campus!

Is the purple arch-like sculpture at the Zen garden between Rizal Lib and MVP part of the exhibit too, or is it a permanent thing? That, and the benches at the fringes, raised the aesthetic value of the area several notches. Before them, the area was simply blah. I mean, I'd rather have the old Food for Thought and food sales there than a Zen garden nobody uses.

Masikit sa ADMU. Maliliit ang parking spaces. Okay siguro kung maglalakad kalang pero if you drive, sobrang barado ang mga kalye kasi ang liliit nito (2 lanes lang) at lahat ito situated along katipunan Avenue. Tuwing nagkakasabay ang uwi-an ng mga taga U.P. at ADMU, barado na ang Katipunan...

Then punta ka ng Lasalle and compare it with Ateneo.

Ateneo has the best campus in terms of space and facilities. UP as a distinct academic feel. Pero I still love Lasalle maski masikip, the atmosphere is different in the sense that you in old Manila. Sa Ateneo parang nasa States ang dating. Miriam and UST are also good campuses.

Though I'm a La Sallian by heart, I've got to say that Ateneo Schools (Katipunan, Rockwell Law School, Med School behind Medical City) are situated in better locations. :)

Taft/Greenhills can be a pain in the *** sometimes. I love it in Taft, but pollution will drive you nuts.

no, All benildeans can use the facilities of the SDA building, but the problem is, why waste time going to the building if you don't have classes there. hindi naman sa malayo ito from the taft campus, pero minsan kasi, hassle pumunta dun, makikipagpatintero ka pa minsan sa mga sasakyan sa may vito cruz.

Actually, the SDA building could spark a better urbanization of the Malate area, and hopefully, the City of Manila.

A lot of modern buildings have achieved this.

I don't see any reason why the SDA building can't.

In my utmost humble opinion.

Why don't they name it in honor of someone? Preferably an artist or designer associated with La Salle (or CSB, better) or a good Lasallian brother. It would sound nice. Sana hindi i-rename after a benefactor. Pwede na lang sila sa isang plaque sa building.

^ In fairness to FEATI, the new administration has been pouring in a lot of money into the new facilities. My uncles all went to FEATI, and when they visited Manila as balikbayans a decade ago, naiyak na lang sila when they saw how decrepit the FEATI campus(es) were.

^^^Like Makati Med without the renovations? :p Mabuti naman na nagrerenovate na sila. AKIC sucks being there. Why can't it be near the bay?

^^^If you locate it on the riverbanks, you have to make sure that the ground you're standing at is solid. Then there's water pollution. Students are sick of road smells already. What more pa with a stinky river. And when there's water pollution, there will, most probably, be flooding around the area. A campus cannot be an extension of the river. And who's a major contribution to the trash in the river? The neighborhood. A squatter's area or a overly-urbanized or "factorized" area is not conductive for education. :bop:

Some things about La Salle...

*Before, you could see the bay from La Salle.
*It is said that the ground where the campus is standing is
reclaimed land.
*You know the cross in front of the entrance to the MBS? It was
placed there to cover an electric circuit box. Open the lower left
cube. It's a door.
*Are there really bloodstains on the floor of the MBS? 'La ako
makita eh.
*Before, there was no 4th floor, where the Brothers live. It was just
added during the restoration after the war.
*In the old campus, there was this nice-looking iron gate that the Brothers and the new occupants of the property were fighting over. It's now in Intramuros.

My rants about the campus of La Salle.

*It's in a bad place. (At least you're nearby to alot of things)
*Not as sprawling as nearby UST. (At least shorter distance time)
*If it's not a building designed in the neo-classical way, then it looks bland. (Can't there be a mix of neo-classical and modern just like other universities?)
*It's not a single solid campus. (Have to go through multiply checkpoints)
*The conservatory wasted such a wonderful patch of green and the nice look of the first floor (I would like the conservatory underground)
*Those walkway roofs attached to the LS building is ruining it.

And lots more. I feel like I'm a designer by heart. :bop:

Bongga talaga ang fountain dun, alala ko pa nung bago pa yun madaming nagtatakbuhan umaasang mabasa ng tubig tapos pag nabasa tawanan at hagikgikan to the max hahaha! O I also miss Mcdo, KFC, Ice monster sa pay park bldg. Grabe I really like the idea of having fast food restaurants there, hindi na pahirapan sa paglalakad at pakikipagunahan sa dapitan hehe.

Pero kung papipiliin ako, gusto kong campus sa La Salle taft. Maliit siya oo pero yun talaga gusto ko, di ko talaga feel naglalakad ng malalayo at pawisan ng todo. Mabilis kasi akong hingalin kaya naman talagang hagardness ako physically and mentally nung college e! hehe.

UP-spacious. un nga lang open sa lahat. i've heard stories of students getting robbed,raped,killed by outsiders. alot. and kung may time na walang jeep...tapos blg to blg ang classes mo...wasak ka. hehe

ADMU-like other's said, no aircons. but its only because ateneo is surrounded by pretty much clean air because of the trees that surround them. i like their campus alot. and may masasarap na mais sa labas hehe. and i can see ho some of their structures revolve around the art side other than the technological side.

UST-its a jewel amidst the dirty manila. its really what you may call a "classic" campus. the only thing that really ticks me off is the fact that you may find walking out in the blistering sun just to submit something at the main blg or go to the library to be not your cup of tea. lalo na sa mga colleges na dulo't dulo ang layo. (kawawang mga taga CFAD, di bale centralized naman ang blg nyo eh)

FEU-i never got inside but i really like their blgs. they look so high tech. i wish i can go inside before i graduate.

DLSU Manila - i think its ok to assume that DLSU boasts to be one of the most technologically advanced university in the Philippines. maganda rin ang structures ng buildings nya. pagpasok palang, you can feel the security. yun nga lang...masikip ang parking dahil siksikan sa loob. (tapos *** mga students di-kotse lahat LOL mag limousine ka mag isa!!!)

CSB-di naman sya ganun ka laki, pero bilib ako sa ganda ng buildings nya. they make the most of what they can in such little space.

San Beda College-small but i find viewing their campus from legarda station to be a good sight for sore eyes.



summary: generally, the bigger and spacious is the campus, the more beautiful they are. but other small universities and/or colleges can be better than the big ones if they can somehow go up.
i.e building tall buildings like CSB did. then again...its not the size of the campus, its how you decorate it :P

I was visiting the Ateneo campus last night and saw the following:

- The new University Dorm is all but finished. It's not much to look at from the Pollock/Gesu side, but it's massive. It should dominate the view when you're looking at it from Loyola Memorial Park, which is right behind the campus. The new dorm is also visible from the C-5 overpass going to Bonnie Serrano.

- Also, they were renovating the Rizal Lib (which, I think is in major need of expansion). The Thomas More statue has also been "liberated" from the scaffolding and is now a prominent feature of the Library complex.

- The old Soc Sci building has been expanded and now has a fourth floor. It has also been re-painted in keeping with the campus color scheme (Beige, white, brick red).

I'll post some pics by next month, when I get my camera back.

^^ okay... but it is. di naman kasi ako marunong gumamit ng programs to draw buildings. the details may not be so accurate, i only based that drawing from the pictures posted in this thread. i have the LS building here as well, di ko lang ma-post, mahaba yung building eh.
