Hmmm, I also observed the natural "chemistry" between UP and the catholic UP (the catholic church granted that title to UST).

UP & UST both offer traditional courses, the indispensable ones that answers to the need of the society. Both schools also cater to the middle (or even lower than that) class of the society. Also both schools are very old, UST is even the oldest in asia ( 1611) older than Harvard too (25 years as I remember). Another comparison maybe of UST and UP is the fact that both schools lack facilities, but still their "traditional" way of education is just so worthy of recognition. Both schools have the most number of Centers of Excellence according to the CHED, though UP is obviously the 1st. Even in history books (heroes, national artists, doctors, journalists, engineers) majority of the presidents we have are UP or UST graduates, even the supreme court is dominated by UP and UST graduates. Most of the best writers came from these schools as well (for reference, read the thread about Creative writing). Both are also good in medicine and the allied courses.

These are some of my observations. :) It may not hold true for some, I respect that.
