PAASCU Accreditation Rating:(Level 4 is the Highest rating)

De La Salle University Manila: Level 4 (awarded last April 2002)
Ateneo de Manila University: Level 3

Can Level 3 Ateneo ever match La Salle's Level 4 rating?

Of course they can, but when they do, DLSU is most probably in Level 69.

As for now they can gloat on their win against DLSU last Tuesday (like what the L3M, archers_nemesis, is doing). At least they have one thing to brag to DLSU. But nonetheless, when it comes to academics and sports in general, DLSU is the best!

I will not settle for any level III institution, especially if it's a re-accredited level III institution. Even PSBA and AMA is better than ateneo!

Seriously, how can ADMU hope to get the Level IV accreditation when its related interests (not necessarily the university) is hounded by allegations of corruption and cheating?

A provincial "branch" is accused of selling a college diploma to a rich man's son. The Law arm is accused of leaking the test to would-be lawyers... Do you realize the significance of that? Those who would uphold the law are already indoctrinated to break it in order to further their own ends!

Think about it. The PAASCU accreditation is not about how you compare against other schools. It is about how you compare to your stated goals. If one of ADMU's objectives is to develop "men for others" or "solid citizens", then the above examples clearly show that they are deliberately moving AWAY from that objective.

Just asking: Is DLSU's goal to become like Jollibee?

If it is, then DLSU is definitely Level 4 because it has clearly achieved its goal. Branch here, branch there, branches here, there and everywhere.

The PAASCU accreditiation compares a school to its own set objectives. DLSU is definitely doing a great job having proven itself as the Jollibee of the university world.

Congrats!

Hmmm...but isn't Ateneo also guilty of what you are accusing DLSU to be doing? Think...Ateneo de Manila...Ateneo de Zamboanga...Ateneo de Naga...Ateneo de Davao...Ateneo-REGIS MBA in Santa Rosa, Laguna...Ateneo Professional Schools in Rockwell...Ateneo Professional Schools in Dela Rosa, Makati. There might be some other Ateneo schools we're not even aware of.

And mind you, it is in DLSU's mission-vision to provide quality education to the poor (do some research if you want). This was also St. John Batist De La Salle's goal during his time. He pioneered the classroom-based style of teaching and, along with his fellow Brothers, brought education to the remotest and most depressed villages and towns in Europe teaching poor kids the sciences, math, and the languages despite the fact that he came from a very wealthy French family. This is why you will notice that the Green Archer best personifies the mission and vision of De La Salle. Robin Hood (an archer) took money from the rich and provided wealth to the poor, just as St. John Baptist De La Salle disowned his wealthy family and brought education (exclusive only to the rich back then) to the marginalized sectors of society. His corporal works of mercy and contributions to the upliftment of the poor in society by virtue of education have been major factors in his canonization as the PATRON SAINT OF ALL TEACHERS. Almost all schools in the modern world now utilize the classroom-based style of teaching. The big number of De La Salle schools in the Philippines just shows that Saint John Baptist De La Salle's legacy in this world has been preserved at least in our country.

I am sure many will ask "how can the DLSU system provide quality education to the poor when most of its students come from the upper strata of the income bracket?" Well, the word "poor" should not just be taken in its financial context; it should also be taken in its intellectual and spiritual context as well. Ever wonder why La Salle's admissions policy is quite lenient as opposed to other schools? Ever wonder why Christian living and religious studies have always been an integral component of the curricula of La Salle schools? DLSU's mission-vision as an educational institution and as a product of St. John Baptist De La Salle's continuing legacy throughout the centuries is your answer. Just in case you didn't know, ther are dozens of other DLSU-supervised schools around the country that provide quality education to the true poor of society, those who cannot afford to get a decent education.

So, if you lambast La Salle as a university following the footsteps of Jollibee, so be it. This has been and will always be the legacy and the thrust of St. John Baptist De La Salle and the Roman Catholic Church. Preferential option for the poor has been the subject of most Church encyclicals this past century. Instead of school bashing, I suggest you just be thankful to the Lord that you are fortunate enough to be eating three meals a day and enjoying a good quality education when millions, if not, billions of other people out there are not as lucky as you.

The reality is that the world is becoming packed and packed with more and more people each and every single day while fewer and fewer people are getting educated due to economic hardship. Let's focus our efforts towards what matters most: educating those who thirst for information.

I don't think La Salle was reacreditted to Level III. It went straight to apply for Level IV accreditation and was granted the distinction with flying colors.

do any of you even know what the PAASCU accreditation is all about? paano ba nakukuha ang Level IV? paano ba nakukuha ang Level III?

a lot of you here are bashing each other's schools thinking that PAASCU's accreditation has something to do with the quality of education, thus inevitably turning this into a never-ending and tasteless school bashing thread.

there are a lot of very good schools that are having a hard time to even nake it to Level III. minsan talaga, hindi ka lang "swak" ika nga sa mga nais makita ng PAASCU to upgrade a school's level. but having a lower level does not automatically make a school inferior. or getting a high level would not automatically mean that the school is superior to others.

if we're going to use PAASCU's accreditation system, mahihirapan ring pumasa ang best university in the Philippines, ang UP. buti na nga lang di na kasali. bakita sinasabi ko na mahihirapang pumasa ang UP? because of lack of funds to upgrade facilities. kaya nga ang PAASCU accreditation is really "skewed" towards high-tuition schools because they have all the money to buy equipment, etc.

Once again, read my post. I mentioned that the DLSU system schools supervise different educational institutions around the country (private and public alike) to provide much-needed education to the poor people of our nation. Much of the funds the DLSU system schools get via matriculation and tuition fees are appropriated for this very purpose. Just in case you aren't aware, De La Salle Zobel and La Salle Greenhills holds Adult Night High School, which provides free high school education to the less-fortunate in the metropolis. This is just one example of what the DLSU system has contributed in our country's pursuit to proliferate education, especially among the marginalized, as a key to nation-building.

I'd like to hear what your school has contributed to help the poor become educated.

DLRT's_Nemesis
Oct 8, 2003, 12:20 AM
That partly explains why the DLSU brand does not carry the same prestige as the other top schools in the Philippines. The DLSU name is so adulterated. DLSU's Jollibee business model is inconsistent with topnotch quality. Rather, it reflects DLSU's ability to deliver efficiently so-so-quality education in a mass-produced way.

Anyway, each school has a different model. To each, his own. Let's just learn to accept and respect our differences.

Peace.

But you must realize that if you were in the shoes of these less-fortunate kids, you wouldn't really care if the education you were being exposed to was "mass-produced" or of "so-so quality." Anything given to them, I am quite sure, shall be taken or accepted with much appreciation and gratitude given their already deprived status in life.

Think about this, if you were a beggar and hadn't eaten for three days, when a man approaches you and offers to give you food for free, which among the two sets of food would you choose?

A. Upsized Jollibee Regular Yum Meal (burger with large fries and large softdrink)

or

B. A can of expensive caviar (not mass-produced; raw materials are rare and of good quality; sold at a really high price once processed)

I hope you see my point.
