hello celtics :)
u forgot to include Ateneo! Although a former member of the NCAA, Ateneo will always be embedded in it's colorful history.
Ateneo de Manila University - 21 Championships (Jrs/Srs) :D

i didn't include Ateneo de Manila University, simply because they now belong to a different league (UAAP) but yes ADMU got of lot Championships. As for De La Salle University same goes with ADMU, DLSU-College of Saint Benilde have it's own identity kasi. :)

It is not shocking because Mapua High has been winning their titles since after Word War II. Before San Beda dominated the juniors, it was Mapua who reigned supreme. The Red Cubs really started to win those titles from 1978, that was the time when Ato got to finally feel and impose the San Beda High School Basketball Program we know of today. FYI, Ato started to coaching the Red Cubs in I think, 1971.

I believe that Ato Badolato started to win NCAA championship prior to 1978. Ateneo was trying to win a 3peat in 75 when the Red Cubs beat AHS behind the play of Chito and Joey Loyzaga. AHS was missing the services of Chito's former grade school teammate, Steve Watson, who decided to suit up for the seniors while still a senior in high school. AHS thought they had enough players to beat the red cubs and this was the start of the riots between both schools.

dude, 11 championship titles have been won by the RED LIONS...the last time was yeap 1978 (or 1977?), under the leadership of chito loyzaga against ateneo in a closed-door game
which means, 12 championships na ang napanalunan ng RED CUBS if both the juniors and seniors are added collectively that is equal to 23

SBC won a string of championships during the time of Chito Loyzaga. But since then, the team has fared miserably. Prior to Loyzaga, the team did not win a championship in the mid 60's or 70's. You may have to go back to the late 50's to see when SBC won a championship before the Chito Loyzaga era.

i tried to look at the list of ncaa juniors champions from 1978 onwards, and you can still see mapua winning championships. nakikipagsabayan pa rin sa san beda. and that still counts from the 18 titles they've won. so it will be really unfair to generalize that san beda dominates ncaa juniors, where in fact it should be the mapua red robins who should have taken the honor.
what makes people think that san beda dominates ncaa juniors is beacuse of the quality of players it has produced, with many either transferring to the UAAP and beginning to shine, up to joining the professional ranks of the PBA.
sa mapua, meron din pero konti lang.

In the 60's and early 70's, the Mapua Red Robin were the perenial champions in the NCAA. Once in a while like in 66 and 67, Ateneo and SBC sneaks in to win the championship.
Starting the mid 70's, the SBC and Ateneo basketball program started to challenge Mapua for the championship. Ateneo had a back to back championship before SBC made a 3 year run. When Ateneo left the NCAA, only SBC remained to challenge Mapua.
In the past ten years, SBC must have won the championship at least half of the time. Recently, Badolato has won 3 of the last 5 championships. The other 2 was won by Letran and Mapua.

If my memory serves me right, Ato did won a championship prior 1978 but I do not remember the year. But 1978 was the turning point of Ato's basketball program, he found what he thought were the right formulas for training and tactics of the Red Cubs. The 1978 Red Cubs were led by Mukesh Advani and Joey Loyzaga. That was the year that the Red Lions won their last champions and the year that San Beda made NCAA basketball history when it won both senior and junior title.

People think that the Red Cubs dominates the NCAA junior basketball competition because the Red Cubs won a bunch of trophy. I think it is unfair for San Beda not commend them with such a term after such a feat. Both NCAA and UAAP high schools have been trying to match the awesome firepower and prowess that the Red Cubs has in its arsenal but to no success, if you do not call that domination then I do not know what is.

san beda presently dominates ncaa juniors no doubt. and im not trying to strip you of that "title." But the ncaa was not born in 1978, it started long before that year. san beda and mapua played along with each other for that many years. to say that "it is not shocking" to see mapua's dominance made me think you only try to view what is pleasing to you.
Unless San Beda surpass Mapua's 18 titles, and with mapua still continuing to win championships after 1978, i say mapua still dominates ncaa juniors, technically. ;)
