I think the reason why they landed 5th is they do not have a good point guard. Britt Reroma was not in the line up because of some school problems.. if he played on that year he could have made a difference... some injury problems 2 to gottenbos, mercado and mesina. After Pop Cola drafted Arjun Cordero, Jerome Paterno, Ronnie Bughao and Jason Griggs of the San Beda Red Lions in the PBL, most Bedans are asking if Pop Cola will be composed of an all-Bedan player alumni?

Kasama din kaya nila sila Ricky Calimag, Ralph Rivera, JAymar Rivera, Francis Mercado, JAcques Gottenbos and the others? And will Coach Nash Racela be the coach for this team?

Oo totoo yun! nabasa ko din kc sa newspaper na draft daw si paterno, bughao at arjun sa pbl at kasama din former bedans.. sosyal naman beda may team na sa pbl:cool: kaya daw ata pinili ng beda ang coca cola na maging team banner nila dahil kay nash racela na assistant ni chot sa coke at other bedan alumni na nasa management ng coke. syempre para narin train narin *** paterno at bughao lalo na si arjun sa system ni nash kc sila ang mga main man ng Red Lion next year. pero bakit si Jeff Bombeo hindi nagpa draft?

The correct name is Jason Griggs. He stands 6' 5" kaso he prefers to play the perimeter and not down the blocks.

Jason Griggs is one of the 2 Fil-Aussie trying to make the Ateneo team. They were still under the 2 year residency requirement of the UAAP when Ateneo kicked him out. Comments in GA.net and Atenista.net said that he wanted to get back at Ateneo by playing for LaSalle. Nothing came out of it and some supporters of LaSalle were incredulous why Ateneo even considered him for their team b.

Maybe he will find success in the NCAA together with Mike Casino, another refuge of the UAAP.

Sa tingin ko nga, almost all the best players came from beda lalo na sa highschool kasi maganda ang program kaya lang lumilipat dahil din sa mga alumni ng beda na nasa ibang school like Pangilinan na nasa ateneo pero alumni ng beda. i think pag lumipat na ng uaap ang beda magstay na sa Red Lions mga top players ng juniors.

if all red cubs played for the lions... well, siguro we should have won some championships.

calaguio and magtulis should have played together with ralph and rensy during their time... then came the time of mercado and gottenbos where ritualo, mesina, bravo and jomalesa should have played.... then now we got cordero and bombeo who lost the services of tabique, agbayani, arao, tenorio and membrere.

sayang pero ganon talaga.... let's juts hope again that our future lions will bring the old glory back to our beloved alma mater.

Sad to say, it does not follow that recruiting the best players from the high school department would automatically translate into wins for the college team. Why?

First, the high school kids may have the talent but can it be said that San Beda had a coach competent enough to bring out the best in the players? Just look at the coaching carousel of the last decade or so and San Beda has had coaches who did not get enough time to fully implement their program. Read the likes of Orly Castelo, Edward Vergeire, Ernie Magsanoc, Rene Baena, Jonathan Reyes and even the immortal Edmundo Badolato.

Coach Badolato deserves special mention. He is without a doubt the best high school coach in the country today but he failed to weave his magic in the college level. The reason is because college players are different from high school kids. In college, imposing discipline is tougher compared to high school because the players are older, more mature and have developed a thinking of their own.

Second and more vital is the support of the community. I cannot say anything about the students who have gone out of their way to cheer the team every time they play. However, I recommend that the administration and alumni give more support to the college team. The students and fans can cheer their lungs out but this all goes to naught once the players are beset by problems in their academics and personal life.

Come on, the picture of the last San Beda NCAA champion team located near the cashier's booth is fast fading away so it's getting tough to make out the faces of the likes of Chito Loyzaga, Frankie Lim and JB Yango. I hope that 25 years is too long a wait for the Bedan community

Even when he coached the college team, Badolato could not get the star players of the red cubs to don the uniforms of the Red Lions. The offers from the other schools was much better.

Nash Racela is a good coach but he will face the same hurdles as the prior coaches if the administration and the alumni do not rally behind him.

Look at Coy Banal at FEU. He had the support of the administration; read Anton Montinola and the Cojuangco/Reyes family, to recruit the necessary players. He brought in players from Ateneo de Davao, Pampanga etc and next year the former rec cub Villanueva back from the States. For his effort, he won the UAAP championship this year.

SBC should have signed Koy Banal 5 years ago out of PSBA. Why not, he meets all the criteria and an alumni to boot.

Tama kayo dun! dapat si coy banal coach natin ngayon.. problema kasi lagi nalang pinapalitan yung coach.. pero guys i have a feeling that next year will be a breakout game for the Red Lions. i know that lagi nalang sinasabi na next year magaling pero iba sa tingin ko with a good coach like nash racela i think mag iimprove talaga ang standings ng RL kasi Nash is a respected coach and in my own opinion if you have a respectable coach and as big as Racela no player would want to hesitate of joining him just like coach Alas of letran, the banal brothers of Ateneo and FEU the same as franz pumaren.. to all the graduating students of the Red Lion this year specialy my friend (you know who you are) and all the students of sbc keep your hopes alive and support your team.. just like how we support our team... next year will be your year guys but we are still the defending champion and we will fight to defend it! looking forward to see you all again next season!
