Aldave was nowhere to be found sa 4th quarter tapos yung errors pa ni Rodriguez at yung walang shooting ni Enrile sa last 2 minutes. Si Bautista yung pinaka maliit stood up like a giant player with a big heart para makuha yung rebound.

Si Piñera yung huling layup niya sabi ko sa sarili ki " Eto na..tapos na ito...andito na yung tunay na champion team."

Paglabas ko kanina may isa akong nakita na high school at napaka bata (***** 2nd year) na may t-shirt na nakalagay na malaking crossout nakapatong dun sa "GRANDSLAM" habang tinuturo niya isa-isang lumalabas sa gate yung mga tao while pointing his other finger to his shirt at nag sign ng "tsk tsk tsk...no way!" while shaking his head.

Yung mga guard pinapatigil sya tapos lumipat sya ng puwesto at inulit-ulit.....kulit ng batang yun :D

Yung balloon na yellow kanina nanghihinayang ako kase hindi na bumagsak. Sayang naman..babalikan ko nga yun next time.
Concerned lang ako sa mga balloons na yellow eh na parang pinabayaan na lang sila ng mga may-ari dun.

Pero this time....bilib din ako dahil walang masyadong gulo nangyari unlike nung 1999 na pati coach ng kabila talagang pinupuntirya. Buti naman walang nagkawasakan ng sasakyan unlike nung 1999 na may reported na 2 vehicles.

Sayang hindi ko na makikita ulit ang PEP Squad ng Letran. Kakagigil yung mga girls, man !

Wait, sino yung mga young girls na nag-gagandahan sa side ng Letran kanina ? Dami nila eh..i was asking to myslef kung coed na ba ang high school. Mukha silang mga high school eh. Gaganda nila, mga pre. Saan galing yung mga yun ?

LETRAN SPRANG back to life in the final two minutes to hold off San Sebastian, 64-59, in do-or-die Game 3 last night to win its first National Collegiate Athletic Association crown in four years before a jampacked crowd at the Cuneta Astrodome.

Small man Boyet Bautista made the biggest plays in the endgame to pump life back into the Knights, who failed to put away the championship in Game Two and appeared headed to another breakdown when the Stags erased a seven-point deficit in the final quarter.

The 2-1 win in the best-of-three finals enabled the Knights to wrest the title they last won in 1999, before their archrival Stags went on a three-peat run. It also gave the Intramuros-based team perhaps the unlikeliest of their league-best 14 titles.

“Kamay ng Diyos ang gumawa nito. The Lord made this title victory possible,” said Letran coach Louie Alas, who took a team that was nowhere among the favorites at the start of the season all the way to the top.

“I would like to commend my players for giving their best today.” added Alas.

The victory was also a vindication of sorts for Alas, who led Letran to the 1998 NCAA title, the Metrostars to a couple of MBA championships and an RP team to the Southeast Asian Games crown but has largely been forgotten since losing his job at Talk ‘N Text a few years back.

“It feels good to win again,” Alas, teary eyed, said at the height of the celebrations inside the Astrodome.

Bautista, named Game Three’s best player, had 18 points, seven rebounds and five assists. But he lost out in the race for the Finals MVP plum to teammate Ronjay Enrile, who led the Knights in scoring with 20 points to go with nine rebounds, four assists and two steals.

Aaron Aban chipped in 13 points, 11 rebounds, four assists and one block.

But until Bautista came through with his endgame heroics, it looked as if the Stags would pull the rug from under the Knights.

The Knights led, 56-50, through three quarters but came under siege when Michael Gonzales completed a three-point play off Bautista and Christopher Baluyot a layup to put San Sebastian ahead at 58-56, going into the final three minutes.

Letran, though, had an answer. Bautista scored on a jumper, Aban made a follow-up basket on Enrile’s missed three-pointer and Bautista set up Jonathan Pinera for a lay-up as the Knights regained control, 62-58, with 46 seconds left.

San Sebastian guard Nicole Uy wasted two shots from the charity lane and Gonzales split his charities as San Sebastian dug itself into a deeper hole before Pinera once again found a free path to the basketball, courtesy of another Bautista assist, to settle the scoring.

“When we made it to the finals, I told the boys that our mission is to end a three-year title drought. I’m glad that we were able to accomplish it,” said Alas. “San Sebastian gave us a good fight. Parehong gustong manalo pero siguro, destined ang Letran na makuha ang championship.”

Incidentally, Alas’ first title with the Knights in 1998 also ended a five-title streak for San Sebastian in 1998.

Seasoned coach Turo Valenzona offered no excuses afterwards.

“We lost to a better team,” said Turo Valenzona, , who authored San Sebastian’s five straight titles which began in 1993. “My players gave their best, talagang naglaro sila nang husto. Pero mas maganda ang depensa ng kalaban.

“Letran deserves to win the title.”

JONATHAN Piñera made back-to-back layups in the final minute as Letran College survived a fourth-quarter scoring drought to defeat San Sebastian College, 64-59, Wednesday and capture its first NCAA men's basketball championship in four years at the Cuneta Astrodome in Pasay City.

Piñera's winning baskets, off the assists of Boyet Bautista and Ronjay Enrile, respectively, capped the Knights' resurgence after being held scoreless in the first seven minutes of the final period.


It also paved the way for Letran's 14th title overall, the last time in 1988-89 when the Knights ruled twice in a row. More importantly, the Knights cut short the Stags' dynasty which started two years ago.

"It feels good, I think the team deserves the championship because of all the effort we have put in it," said Letran coach Louie Alas. "I want to thank God, because it was really the hand of God that gave us the championship."

The 6-foot-5 Piñera, the Knights' second stringer center, seemed to embody that divine will as he found himself alone at the paint twice at crunch time.

The first time was in the last 46.1 seconds to give the Knights a 62-58 buffer. After a free throw by SSC's Michael Gonzales, Piñera again received the ball from a harassed Enrile to flick the championship layup with just 11.4 seconds left.

The Stags actually climbed from 11 points down to even lead by two points (58-56) with three minutes to go, gaining on the Knights' rash of errors and misses.

As if stung by a sorcerer's spell, the Knights just kept missing and losing the ball until Bautista hit a jumper in the last 2:12 to bring order back into their game.

Letran, which entered the game as underdog to the three-peat seeking SSC, took Game 1 with an 85-77 win before the Stags leveled the series with an 89-73 win in Game 2.

San Sebastian leaned on its height advantage to pound the shaded lane and post a 22-21 lead after the first quarter.

While working extra hard in defense, the Knights also started connecting from long range through sharpshooters Aaron Aban and Bautista, whose triple midway in the second period gave Letran an 11-point edge, 36-25.

The expected pelting session -- which also occurred in Games 1 and 2 -- took place at 6:06 of the third quarter when the game barker threatened to suspend the game after the crowd threw things like coins, plastic bottles and ice cubes onto the court.

NCAA commissioner Graham Lim lauded the school officials, board members, referees and technical men for the league's success.

Letran, though, had an answer. Bautista scored on a jumper, Aban made a follow-up basket on Enrile’s missed three-pointer and Bautista set up Jonathan Pinera for a lay-up as the Knights regained control, 62-58, with 46 seconds left.


San Sebastian guard Nicole Uy wasted two shots from the charity lane and Gonzales split his charities as San Sebastian dug itself into a deeper hole before Pinera once again found a free path to the basketball, courtesy of another Bautista assist, to settle the scoring.


“When we made it to the finals, I told the boys that our mission is to end a three-year title drought. I’m glad that we were able to accomplish it,” said Alas. “San Sebastian gave us a good fight. Parehong gustong manalo pero siguro, destined ang Letran na makuha ang championship.”


Incidentally, Alas’ first title with the Knights in 1998 also ended a five-title streak for San Sebastian in 1998.


Seasoned coach Turo Valenzona offered no excuses afterwards.


“We lost to a better team,” said Turo Valenzona, , who authored San Sebastian’s five straight titles which began in 1993. “My players gave their best, talagang naglaro sila nang husto. Pero mas maganda ang depensa ng kalaban.

“Ariba, Ariba,”

The crowd was chanting again in the last 36.1 seconds as the Letran Knights found the right time to outplay and dethrone back-to-back champion San Sebastian College, 64-59, after Game 3 Wednesday to clinch the 79th National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) men’s basketball crown at the jampacked Cuneta Astrodome.

Crucial baskets by Boyet Bautists and Jonathan Pinera brought the chants back as it sparked an 8-0 windup which earned the Knights their 15th title since 1938.

They came after the Knights forced the Stags to three turnovers and ensured an end to their four-year title drought. Their last crown was in 1999 when Binky Favis was still the coach.

They finished the best-of-three title series at 2-1 after the Stags leveled the count last Friday following an 85-77 triumph.

The Stags were last ahead off Chris Baluyot’s drive off Michael Gonzales’ pass with 3:12 to go, 58-56.

But Bautista’ drive past Leo Najorda following the first of three costly turnovers in the ensuing play evened matters up for the last time while Aban’s putback off Gonzales’ miss had the Knights securing the lead.

Baluyot then gave up the ball in on a three-second violation underneath, sending Pinera to a drive past a dumbfounded slotman Clark Moore with 46 ticks left off Bautista’s pass. It fell through Ronjay Enrile bungled a triple.

As Letran led, 62-58, and sounds of “Ariba, Ariba”became louder and louder, the Stags fared poorly at the free throw line, with Gonzales converting only one of four attempts with 30.6 seconds remaining.

Ronjay Enrile led the Knights with 20 points, eight rebounds, two assists and one steal while Bautista had 18 points, seven rebounds, five assists and three steals.

Unfortunately San Beda College does not have the NCAA Basketball Program that will look promising in the near future. My guess will be another Letran and San Sebastian for the 80th NCAA Seniors Basketball Championship. Congrats to the NCAA Junior Champions - San Beda Red Cubs.
