View Full Version : Majority of students who graduated from private Catholic schools don't have values

This is just my personal opinion, take it or leave it. I notice that most students who graduated from prestigious private Catholic schools don't have good values with them. I also noticed that the "Catholic" aspect of the school is some sort of a "you can take away" aesthetic that comes with the school's name and reputation.

cwposse - I agree with you!!! I've seen it with my own eyes and I know what you're talking about...
btw, I'll try to cite specific examples...
Basta american movie and products... No questions asked... VERY IN!!! :)
- Mahilig mag-isolate ng tao... sobra sobra ang pambubully na ginagawa sa isang tao... to the point na mag-iisip ang biktima magpakamatay at manakit ng kanyang sarili. Hoy...
:grrr:
*Opinyon ko rin to... I graduated from Southridge School... and I saw a lot of evil... basta... sapat na para makagawa ako ng nobela (tamad nga lang ako eh...) ... heh... :)

And I forgot... Why the hell do so-called "christian" universities bash one another so badly... Di ko maintindihan. Samantalang sa Canada, school bashing is very very low profile... di masyadong inaano... :)
I recently downloaded an mp3 made by lasalista students...

Well, I'm not going to make any hasty generalizations here since I have attended school in the Philippines for only about 2 years, which was in a nice Catholic private high school (I won't say the name). One thing that shocked me (sort of) was this peculiar hobby of some students, which was having sex with a prostitute. It was pretty open and it was like the popular gimmick of that time. Guys talk about it as if it was not a big deal and you were seen a "stud" if the other students found out that last weekend, you and your barkada screwed some ******. In fact, there was even this honour student, who was really smart by the way (book-smart that is), and I can remember him asking me which hole down there in a woman's body should he insert his ****. Apparently, he and his barkada were planning on screwing some *****es over the weekend after the final exams were over and he wanted to know exactly where the vagina is located (I guess that is one thing they don't teach you at a Cathoic school, eh?). So, does this reflect the behavior of all Catholic high school students? No, definitely not. But I have to say, I often laugh at people when they say that kids who have attended Catholic schools in the Philippines are more well-behaved than kids who have attended secular public schools here. They really have no idea.

Why is that? Isn't the catholic church against abortion and other population control methods? But why don't they teach students how to procreate... how to make the human race last longer?!?

Oh common guys. Lets not jump into conclusions that Catholic schools has the most students w/ very low moral values. Clearly, ALL schools have their own kinds of students....the genius, the weirdos, the geeks, the outcasts & the notorius. I believe that their is no school in this world that has no student or a group of students who only fool around and acts like thos so called "li'l devils" I went to highschool in a private non-sectarian school, and yes I do have batchmates who are so notorius that if it werent their intelligence, they wouldnt have graduated highschool. And that goes for catholic schools too, kasi my older sis went to highschool in a well known catholic school run by Priests and Nuns.
It just so happens na natitira 'yun mga student from catholic schools kase syempre it was expected of them kung ano naturo sa kanila ng mga Madre or Pare. Well, I guess they could discipline while in campus but lets face it...discretion na rin ng mga students kung ano pwede nila gawin off-campus...whether good or evil...and no one...not even teachers, nuns or priests can do anything about it.
Point of view here ko lang...kahit anong klaseng school naman pagusapan natin...there will always be a school out there that has a slut, outcasts, the hopeless, the notorious, the manyaks part of their student population.

SWEEPING GENERALIZATION:
No. I did not say "all". If I would quantify what I meant by saying majority, then it's about 85% of students per school.
It's just an honest to goodness observation, and like what I've said it's just my opinion. I also came from catholic universities, GS to College, so that is more than 10 years of observation.
ALL SCHOOLS HAVE THEIR SHARE OF ROTTEN TOMATOES:
I agree but Catholic schools have more responsibility to instill values on their students. From the looks of it they are failing in that aspect. I wish they would treat this issue the way they treat the yearly tuition fee increase issue. :)

Yes, although I'm not that sure because it can go higher but definitely not lower.
Yes, I'm talking about CHRISTIAN values, not just Catholic.

Well, I agree with you...the fact that it is expected of them to possess very strict standards. Kaya nga like I said, mostly catholic school students are the ones who are in fire when it comes to parents talking about student behavior...pero part of life rin diba.
Pero no one is perfect in this world...not even catholic nuns & priest, not event saints for example even the St. Peter turned his back on Christ during His darkest hours. And look at the present time, as you notice there are alot of scandals inside the catholic religion...when it comes to money, sex, and homosexual relationsips & harrasment. Pero still lets not jump into conclusions yet that catholics maybe the worse people in this world.

i don't know about other people, but i wouldn't send my kids to an expensive catholic school to learn "values". i would send them to expensive private schools so that they can get into good colleges and have the right foundation to succeed in their adult lives, but not to know the difference between right and wrong. i still think values should be taught at home.

i agree with this. nasa tao lang 'yan and if they choose to accept what they learn in their values educations classes or not.
lahat ng school may mga mababait at may mga gumagawa ng kalokohan. the difference could be, mas pag-uusapan lang pag galing sa catholic school ang bata (at alam mo naman ang tsismis, habang kumakalat lalong nagiging exaggerated). syempre pag may nabuntis na teenager, for example, who studied in an exclusive school for girls run by nuns, mas pag-uusapan ng mga tao. they'd say "siguro masyadong strict sa school nila kaya nagwala" or "di naman siya natuto mag-behave kahit sa catholic school siya nag-aral" while ignoring the 99.5% of the girl's classmates who did not get pregnant. so the system "failed" for that one girl who got pregnant. does that mean the system does not work? ;)

i'll just say na marami rin akong alam na tao na galing sa "exclusive catholic" schools na medyo kakaiba ang takbo ng pag-iisip. 'yung para bang since their HS didn't provide them with ideas on how the real world really is, para silang nakawala sa hawla kung umasta. btw, galing ako sa catholic school kaya alam ko ang pinagsasasabi ko. ;)

hay nako, wala kayo sa experience ko. i went to a catholic school run by nuns when i was elementary, and two years of high school at la salle lipa before i went here in america. grabe, mahigpit sila. ang daming rules. mahigpit lalo na kapag babae ka. kapag babae ka, kelangan on-time, follow the rules, manners, etc. kapag napagsigawan ka kung babae ka, nakakahiya. and ang hirap talaga ng turo nila...lalo na religion, dami mong sasauluhin. kaya pagdating ko dito at nag-school ako, eh talagang nadalian ako...kaya mas gusto ko dito. public school nga lang ako dito pero its way better than those schools i attended in pinas. dito na ako talaga.

Back to the topic, I think that part of the "dont have values" thing is to be blamed on the self-righteous teachers!!!. I had this teacher before... kung mag-lecture, akala mo kung sinong banal na santo... pero nung nag seminar, I tested him...
Guess what... I pretended not to know how to eat with fork and knife... and all that... basta I pretended to be a "squatter" or the uneducated class... I'm rather the type of dude that is hard to tell if I'm just playing or not... And guess what the mothafukka did: NILAIT AKO!!! :grrr: :grrr: :grrr: And then he talked about this batchmate of his who became a bum due to intense bullying and shlt by the class... and he sounded as if he did not have remorse...

huh?

ang mahirap lang naman kasi dahil nga sobrang higpit sa amin ang taas ng expectations ng mga tao samin.. look, hindi kami mga madre or pari.. we're just students like you, the only difference is we went to a catholic school and you didnt..
hmm.. parang walang pintutunguhan ang sinasabi ko.. anyway, all im saying is, lahat ng schools may kanya kanyang mga "bad students" mas natitira lang kami dahil nasa likod na simbahan ang school namin.. basta di lahat kami ganon.. hindi rin naman 85 percent.. over naman yun..

Heyo... before you see me as a private catholic school basher... I gotta say something GOOD ABOUT THOSE SCHOOLS... :)
Like what this thread says... "MOST"... MOST does not mean ALL. There are a few students who are really good... who are candidates for the next mother theresa or whoever saint...
I used to know this guy who wanted to break the cycle "frivolousness" as brought about by the yearly Junior-Senior prom. You know what he did? He proposed that instead of a J-S prom, there will be an alternative outreach program.
Ako, I signed that petition just to piss people off... :rotflmao: heh... I just luv to annoy people... :)
---------------------
Students from Catholic schools in the philippines KNOW more about their faith... The case is that some turn into the "pharisees" and others do not...
Here in Canada, I had classmates in the catholic school who do not know what a mortal sin and venial sin is... who do not memorize the hail mary, etc... etc... etc...
But in Southridge, catholic doctrine and philosophy are really taught hard core... :)
