right after the knock out game of mapua against letran a lot of scouts approach both aguilar and galinato. i think it was la salle who is offering galinato a brand new car plus employment for his brother from the province. one mapua fan approach coach horacio and coach commented that with the way things are going he is about 90% sure that aguilar and galinato will not play for the cardinals in the future!!!!

Kung sa recruitment practices lang since they started taking things seriously, mas matakot kayo sa Ateneo kesa sa LaSalle. Hindi lang ninyo alam yung pinanggagawa ng boosters nila behind the scenes.

Cars ba kamo? Remember the JR Reyes fiasco last year? 'yan true story yan as told by one of the UP sportswriters in his column sa Inquirer last year albeit blind item, pero it was so obvious kung sino tinutukoy niya.

Right, grabe ang recruitment for both La Salle and ADMU. I remember Arao trained the whole summer sa UST then Ateneo made a better offer kaya nakuha cia. Oops. Mali may bf pala is an inch taller than Aguilar sayang kung nagkaabutan sana sial sa seniors.

Expect one of the twin towers to play for LaSalle.

DLSU has always had success with players from MIT going back to Ray Pages in the 70's, Hubalde and Sta. Maria. Oops mali, sinuka ng LaSalle si Hubalde at sinalo ng UST. Rektikano knows the story very well. Kasama pa si Hubalde sa States to train with the rest of the players of LaSalle only to be released upon his return to Manila.

The people from UP are sitting on pins and needles. Akala nila, Galinato was a sure thing for UP under the VAAS program. LaSalle needs a center since they lost Bono to Adamson. Why would a player like Galinato sign with Ateneo when the team has Arao, Quimson, Uichico, and Estanislao, Baldos and a Fil something in team B?

its up to the players to decide where they want to pursue their basketball carrers since they are the ones that direct their future, maybe the uaap gives them exposure and tougher competetion just maybe they become basketball greats by their move.

This will only happen if

a) the family of Galinato lives close to Alabang and he can commute to school

b) an alumni will be the guardian for the brother and live in their household while the brother attends Zobel.

I am not saying that the statement by chain_saw8 is false, but hard to comprehend. Had you said LSGH, it would be more realistic because LSGH is more accessible than Zobel.

Nothing is impossible but highly unlikely!

guys, it is confirmed.... Micheal Galinato (6'5" cager who has the best pivoting and foot works among the recent Juniors Tournament both in NCAA and UAAP) will play for the Archers next season.... for verification, check out the AP.com/ AP.net

While, Japeth Aguilar (6'7" cager with the longest wing span and the tallest college basketeer) is already undergoing the training at the moro lorenzo gym for ateneo... he would be a great addition to the inside power and defense mechanism of the eagles....

while, their teamate, M. Tabaquero (the ace piont guard and play maker) would play for the cardinals next season, for he is already playing, with a cardinal jersey, at the MICABA tournament.....

Everything is now in the open. Just read the different threads here in Pex, UAAP section, AP.com and Atenista.net. Mapua did not have a chance to retain their twin towers for the college team.

Aguilar was delivered by his father to Ateneo through his friendship with Joel Banal. This was 2 seasons ago pa kaya done deal na siya. There are only 2 questions for Aguilar. Can he pass the entrance test and survive the grin in Ateneo. Secondly, will he play in team A or B next year.

Most insiders in Ateneo expected him to be in team B but he has improved tremendously in the months since he began his trainning at Moro. Do not be surprise if he makes team A because of his defense. He has started to gain additional weight and muscle. Must be the vitamins and extra food given at Moro. Defensive demon daw but must learn moves in the low post.

Since Aguilar was a done deal early on with Ateneo, LaSalle set their sights on Galinato. Galinato is far more advance with his playing skills than Aguilar but Aguilar has the height and length to play the 5 spot. He is almost a sure bet for varsity provided he passes the entrance test and does not change his mind. Adamson is still trying hard to recruit him but LaSalle ie making sure that there is no repeat of the Ken Bono surprise of last year. LaSalle handlers are guarding him like a hawk from the other schools.

yup. It's confirmed. Galinato plays for DLSU and Aguilar will play for ADMU. Correction with the height. Aguilar is just 6'5 while Galinato is 6'3.

Then again, kulang pa din daw yung maglalaro for the Cards, that's what I heard so far. They are really good in developing Junior players but it seems to be so hard for them to keep their players. ***** nga naman mas secured sila if they transferred to UAAP schools.

dissapointing...tsktsk only two schools stands to benifit from getting younger talents from the high school ranks because they have the money and the power to do so...

where is the spirit of amateurism here? the right to choose? it has appeared that players today chooses name fame and the monetary/material things rather than to play at a small lesser known programs with less pay but more on exposure and academics....

i cant blame the two kids: maybe they have their own reason...the balance of competition in the uaap might suffered again at the hands of two elitist schools....

Some comments concerning your post.

The blue chip recruits playing in Metro Manila will always get the publicity over their provincial counterpart. Yes, Ateneo and LaSalle will get first dibs at these players provided they are good but other schools will soon follow. Why? Because there are more school sponsored team in the PBL. UP, FEU, UST and LaSalle have school sponsored teams in the PBL while a number of Ateneans are playing for Fash detergent. Next conference, you will see a Toyota-Otis team composed of players from Letran. The deal for SBC to field a team fell through due to the economic problems in the country.

The solution for Mapua is to have the Yuchengco's sponsor a team in the PBL compose of players from Mapua. The Yuchengco business group is loaded financially. They used to field a team in the old MICAA league under the name Grepa Life Insurance and RCBC had a team in the Inter-Bank league.

This is the big advantage of the UAAP schools over the NCAA schools. Even NU fielded a team in the PBL for one year under the sponsorship of Sen. John Osmena.

The players have a final say in which school they want to attend in college. Some of the star players of SBC decided to matriculate at Ateneo yet they stay on even if they haven't made varsity yet. Only Arao made it to varsity while Escueta may make it next year. Braganza and Baldos have stiff competition from the other recruits but they are getting a good education in the meantime. Agbayani quit the Ateneo tryouts to play for UP.

Does signing the well known blue chip players of Manila guaranty a championship? Definitely not. Look at who won the NCAA championship, Letran. Letran won by recruiting the players of Las Pinas College to fill in holes in the Letran team and the players had a seamless transition. Las Pinas College is the pipeline for Letran as the coach is the younger brother of the Letran coach.

In the UAAP, FEU won the championship. The FEU coaching staff saw gems in the discards of LaSalle and Ateneo. Rizada and Cutler played for ADDU yet Ateneo did not take them in. Jeff Chan is a product of LaSalle Bacolod and he was released by Ateneo while LaSalle took a pass. Santos tried out for LaSalle but FEU welcomed him with open arms together with other players from Pampanga. Coy Banal brought 2 players with him from PSBA.

I don't think that you can blame the kids if they choose Ateneo or La Salle over any other school. Look at this:

First, ADMU and DLSU's basketball programs are the best in the country (e.g., most funded programs, biggest support from the alumni, etc.). Secondly, let's not forget the education perspective. The two schools are also the top schools in the country, with only UP ranked higher. And lastly, exposure is greatest in the UAAP.

So if you are a blue chip recruit, the Ateneo and La Salle offer the best basketball program, the best education, and the most exposure pa. Unless there is a compelling reason, why would you go somewhere else?

I do not know where you get your information but they are totally wrong. Players of Ateneo and LaSalle basically get the same offer from the school. Free tuition, books, housing allowance and a fixed stipend. Walang bahay at walang kotse.

The advantage of both schools is that they have teams in the PBL owned by supporters of the school. The allowance they receive from the PBL team enhances the players total stipend. This is how the players are able to buy their own cars. Pinaghirapan nila ito. Apparently, the owners of the PBL team that support Ateneo and LaSalle gives the players the maximum allowable allowance. This is the very reason why Jay R Reyes of UP is playing for Welcoat and not the team that sponsored the rest of UP. His contract with Welcoat is very lucrative compared to the contract received by his other teammates.

If there are any other extra benifits then that does not come from the school but from certain school boosters.

In a way you're right. I believe my bf used to say that other than the fixed alowance they get, they have sponsorship or other support from PBL team owners and alumni. However, the allowance of these 2 schools are far much higher compared to other schools. And the recruitement they do is really intensive. Say for example this story shared by Aric Del Rosario.

During Palarong Pambansa, Coaches would fly to the site to scout now when time comes for them to recruit or made an offer of a scholarship and a chance for them to improve, rep from these 2 Schools will come with a jacket a cap and a more lucrative offer.

Another thing, it actually depends on the player they will recruit. I remeber talking to 1 player who spent his high school year at Beda. He mentioned that he is supposed to be locked up to this school but his new school paid Beda to let him join the other team.

My bf who used to be with the archers and transferred to an NC team told me that the benefits are still better in his previous school

My bf who used to be with the archers and transferred to an NC team told me that the benefits are still better in his previous school

Shelly rush,

I think I know who your boyfriend is. You can count in one hand how many players LaSalle lost to another school after accepting a scholarship to playing a season in the UAAP. Heh heh heh, siya ba yung malaki na napunta sa SBC or yung swingman na maglalaro for Mapua. As far as I know, Ateneo has kept all of their players in either team A or B.

It is not the fault of Ateneo and LaSalle that the schools allowance to basketball player is higher than what other school gives out. Blame the school administration of your school. Even the alumni and fans of SBC have vilified SBC administration for wanting a championship but they also would sit on their wallets.

The good money is when the players qualify to play in the PBL. The advantage of Ateneo and LaSalle is that the team owners are also fans and alumni of their school and they just happen to have deeper pockets.

Nope. My bf doesn't play anymore. HInt: He spent his high school years playing with Beda, 1st 2 years with La Salle then Mapua.

Agree with what you say. By the way, you can't blame it on the school admin. to...for one, you can not encourage people to sponsor you if you are always on the losing end.

I am not saying that the statement by chain_saw8 is false, but hard to comprehend. Had you said LSGH, it would be more realistic because LSGH is more accessible than Zobel.

Nothing is impossible but highly unlikely!

hey, the brother of micheal galinato will go to la salle zobel, coz he the juniors division delegate of dlsu is the la salle zobel..... its not the accesibility!!!!

What can Mapua offer that Ateneo and DLSU can not offer?

Aguilar was a lost cause for Mapua. As early as his junior year, he knew he was going to be part of the Ateneo program. The father used his relationship with Joel Banal; former teammates, and assured that he will be a future Blue Eagle provided he passes the entrance test. As soon as the NCAA ended, Aguilar was pulled from Mapua and transferred by Ateneo supporters to another school. This was done to make sure that he meets the requirements of Ateneo. There was also the mistrust factor! ;)

Galinato was available to be recruited prior to this years NCAA. The management of Mapua did not do anything hence Galinato was courted by such schools as DLSU, UP and Adamson. Since he will be playing for DLSU, one has to think that management may rolled over in favor of DLSU. Check out in AP.com the comments concerning the recruitment of Galinato by Adamson.

Di ba, Mapua is now owned by the Yuchengco group. Ask yourself if there is any relationship between the Yuchengco's and LaSalle. Heh heh heh, the on campus building speaks for itself. LaSalle has a history of recruiting players from Mapua.

Maybe they have allocated their resources on other priorities than the team. But then again they can if they really wanted to...look at the case of Sumalinog, the admin. paid Beda in order to get him
