Yes the UAAP is more glamorous.
the BIG FOUR universities in the Philippines: The Ateneo, La Salle, UP, and UST, are members of this league.
maybe if arch rivals la salle and ateneo opted to stay in the NCAA, baka mas sikat pa ang liga nato kesa sa UAAP. but thats already history. but for now, the ncaa will always be second to the UAAP.

UAAP has ATENEO, LA SALLE, UP, UST... these are the top schools in the country. No offense to NC member schools... but just go around the corporate world and who do you see on top of those corporations? graduates from those 4 schools... so, it's just logical that these guys would do their best to support their respective schools through sponsorships...

Keep on dreaming! As long as the top managers of the big companies in the Philippines are graduates of UP, LaSalle and Ateneo they will be supporting the UAAP.
Pati ang mga media outlets, Lopez of ABS-CBN is an Atenean. If the buyout of GMA pushes through, Tony-boy Cojuangco is the current or past president of the Ateneo Alumni Association.
How successful is the UAAP? Even Sev Sarmenta doing the telecast people prefer to watch the UAAP and he is a die hard Atenean by way of Letran or SBC grade school. One of his students in Ateneo, Jude Turcuato has a very successful cable show concerning the UAAP. Sometimes, the NCAA games are not even mentioned in the papers but the UAAP is always mentioned. Even columnists weigh in with their personal comments like Jonelle So, Quinito Henson and others. Sorry, mga Atenista and LaSallians pala sila!
Get the point! :D

Not all top managers of the corporate world came from those schools. Well, some became CEO not because they have the intellect to climb to the corporate world but mainly because it was merely inherited by them. Sadly, their parents did not graduate from the top 4 universities mentioned. Mostly, the pioneers in Philippine business also did not come from aforementioned schools. They came from china. Others became CEO because they became dummy for Marcos and ended up owning the firm when Marcos died. Other schools products also contributed a lot to Philippine business and politics. UP produced Marcos, Enrile, Salonga, Monsod and many more, Ateneo produced the pro spanish Rizal, Manglapus, and gordon, San Beda produced Mitra, Saguisag, Bobit Sanchez, and Raul Roco. West Point's Fidel Ramos, Macapagal from asssumption. And letran's aguinaldo, mabini, osmena, luna, quezon. and la salle's senator ralph recto - vilma santos' husband.

i'm a grad from an NCAA-member school but i have to admit YFU'ER is right...
But NCAA doesn't really have to follow the path of UAAP. it doesn't have to be glamorous. anyway, it's not about the glamour it's about the game. perhaps NCAA should just concentrate on developing the level of their games rather than on getting commercialized...

Yes, but where did they send their children or their childrens children to school? I think its more of family tradition, I went to SBC because of my cousins, Abraham Mitra followed the footsteps of Ramon Mitra and graduated at SBC, Raul Roco's son went to SBC law but unfortunately bowed out after a year, Saguisag's sons went to SBC as well as Bobit Sanchez's son. The bagatsings also went to SBC. Quezon City has been administered by bedans; Mathay, Belmonte and soon Herbert Bautista. Well, if Im a Mapuan i will send my son to Mapua or If Letranite to Letran. If your from DLSU, Ateneo or UP then send your sons there. That is our God given choice.
Once upon a time, there was only one collegiate league in the Philippines and that was NCAA (1924), but because it became commercialized; UP, NU, and UST left to form the UAAP in the late 1930's leaving behind San Beda, Ateneo, DLSC, Letran, Mapua and JRC. The three left because of commercialization issues. Ateneo left because of personal games between San Beda in 1977, resulting into injuries and damages in properties during clashes at RMC and Araneta Col. DLSC left in 1983 because of Letran. But only gained UAAP membership after UST agreed to let them in sometime in 1986.
It is only in the Philippines that the Universities tend to disassociate from Colleges, although NCAA same as the US NCAA welcomes both Universities and Colleges alike. Well, its true that UAAP is given more publicity because of the size of member schools, but the fact remains that UAAP is an offspring of the NCAA and UAAP schools are welcome back to field their teams in the NCAA - for them to truly show what true sportsmanship is all about.

Glamour and prestige are not the only factors that make UAAP greater, its because they know they can get the right people for their teams and can give them a brighter future. But we should all commend the NCAA schools for trying to keep up with the times by getting quality players with less glamour and hopefully, not sacrificing their future after they rendered their services for their respective schools. Climbing up the professional basketball ranks is not an easy task, only a few are chosen to step up to the big league and the ironic part is that years and injuries are against them. Risky, yes. Profitable? Only for a decade or two, if you count a player's lifespan in a league. Games in the NCAA are as unpredictable as a player's lifespan. :smokin:

Aight. PAgNC games hindi consistent yung nasa top kaya medyo suspense yung mga standings and results ng mga game. Sa UAAP nga predictable yung mga asa Top 4 kasi elims pa lang kita na agad yung nasa taas.
Advertisers opt to place ads in UAAP other an NC because the viewer share for UAAP is much higher compare to NC plus they're targetting the alumni of those schools.

Maraming tv exposure pati sa mga commercials diba? and one more thing, mas maraming sponsors ang UAAP and ang games nila hindi sa Rizal ginaganap. minsan sa araneta pa! unlike sa NCAA, kapag opening lang sa araneta maybe because i've said earlier, mas malaki ang population ng schools na involved sa UAAP. kaya yun. pero i always watch NCAA games kasi dun ang letran. ahehe...

Ncaa is more exciting and intense. The rakings of each teams this past season are so "tight". Look at the case of San Beda, they're way up the rankings on the first round, but unfortunately, never got a semifinals slot. Thanks to my Benilde.
And for Benilde, all I can say is that they're unpredictable. It’s so amazing to think that they almost swept the entire second round, after a winless first round. Kaya talaga nila!
And Lastly, I would like to congratulate Letran. All the while, I thought San Sebastian is the super team this past season, and surely, Letran's victory proved me wrong.
Basically, all teams are leveled. The game is more dangerous! And we like it. :)
Now, what I would like to see is the merger of the two collegiate leagues. Let the UAAP and NCAA unite! to break all forms of barriers, to prove who has the best sports programs. Basically. The possibility of this idea is very high, given the right time, and the right business opportunity. I really think that advertisers could capitalize on this merger.
Well, the more the merrier. This could raise the level of competition, fare distribution of opportunity and publicity.
