THREE HUNDRED EIGHTY THREE YEARS. That's how long it has been since the beginning of Letran. Letran was key actor and witness to the unfolding of events in history: the building of Intramuros, the growth of Manila, a national revolution, the quest for independence, war and post-war period, the martial law years and the years thereafter.
Through her sons and daughters, Letran provided extraordinary men and women in service to the family, Church, country, community, commerce and industry, arts, culture, entertainment and other professions. Even as early as the 1600's, Letran already had a cosmopolitan ambience, and the institution has become a virtual tapestry of the entrepreneurial history of the country. The enterprising spirit of Letran graduates makes them trailblazers- persons who dared to do new things, and yet cherished the old.
There is an undefined toughness of character in the Letranite that makes him/her persevere in daily struggles and face up to the challenges of the time. More than anything else, we count among our ranks practical men who get things going and make things happen.
