ust and others nursing no one can beat ust grabe ang passing average imagine sending 200++ students and consistently average a passing of 97% and up whatmore can you say and the number of students landing in the top 10 is almost a regular routine for the school kaya kapag board ng nursing almost everybody expect ust to top it talaga.

ust is the ONLY school who can send legions of examinees in the nursing board and perform at this rate that is according to ChED kaya nga #1 nursing school Center of Excellence pa... that speaks well of the quality.

WORLD CITI COLLEGES??? I have 2 friends enrolled in that school...btw they are alrdy gradutes... mga for 2nd degree..

One is a graduate of UP Manila (Public Health) and the other one is from UST (Biology). They both enrolled in that school since both of them live nearby.. so for comfort purposes... thinking that the school doesnt really matter, nasa student yan.. they both came from schools na reputable in the Sciences... and now puro sakit ng ulo nakuha nila... wala daw matutunan and all... walang sistema ang skul, questionable faculty, student selection, facilities...

Since both of them are so used to the teaching styles of UP and UST... sobrang lame daw talaga.

ayon, now they both are dying to transfer.. they heard na for 2nd degree people... maganda daw ang Lanting, Fatima, kahit pa EAC, JP Sioson...

UST, UP does not accept degree holders. Balik first year daw.

sa sinasabi ni Christchurch... training? questionable faculty nga e... facilities??? wala.

to top it all...MAHAL ANG TUITION... 30 plus tuition nila...4 subjects lang kinuha nila. and lahat compulsary. kahit manuals na available sa bookstores dapat don bilin, kits...
may mga fees daw na tipong, "nasan yon?" seminar fees...

WCC nga daw We Collect Cash.

UP College of Nursing has an all-time 100% passing rate sa local board exam saka good clinical experience. (Hindi ganun ka-accurate barometer ng performance ang board exams... pero if u see a pattern... that may mean something).

BACHELOR OF SCIENCE IN
NURSING

Mapúa’s BS Nursing (BS NRS) is a 16-quarter, 4-year program that prepares nursing practitioners as generalist, capable of providing health care to meet the needs of individuals, families and groups in institutional and community settings.

The BS NRS curriculum is composed of 2 areas of study: (1) general education; (2) classroom and clinical nursing courses. To be eligible for the BS NRS degree, the student must have completed a minimum of 171 units (inclusive of 23 units PE/NSTP), of which 99 units must be in nursing. Of the 99 units in Nursing, 2,142 hours are devoted to related learning experiences under the guidance of a clinical preceptor. During the senior year, nursing students are required to complete a research-based project addressing a current issue/concern or health problem relevant to nursing practice.

The curriculum is designed to assist students to gain a foundation for professional practice that integrates knowledge from general education courses (humanities and sciences) with the study of nursing. Upon completion of the program students will be able to demonstrate the ability to:

1. Utilize the health process in a variety of institutional and community settings to design nursing systems which shall assist clients to attain and maintain an optimum level of self-care through:

1.1. application of principles of goal-oriented communication to establish and maintain therapeutic relationship with individuals, families, groups
1.2. synthesizing knowledge from behavioral, nursing sciences and humanities as basis for nursing interventions designed to meet the self-care deficits of clients across life span
1.3. collaboration with health team members to improve the delivery of care to individuals, families, groups and the community
1.4. utilization of research methods and findings in the provision of nursing care and investigation of client health problems
1.5. implementation of strategies based on knowledge of teaching-learning principles, leadership-management principles and theories in the attainment of goals with clients (individual/family/group/community)

2. Demonstrate beginning skills in the application of information technology in the development of skills for nursing practice.

3. Accept responsibility and accountability for the choice and outcomes of nursing interventions and for their legal and ethical implications.

Nursing = high paid alila. Pag ganyang course, go to UP and UST.

^kapal din naman ng mukha mo. Wake up, now, dork and admit that this country is now the world's number one nurse exporter. Laitin mo ang kapwa mo Pilipino habang ikaw ay nagpapasasa sa pera ng magulang mo. Puro ka yabang. And no, I am not a nurse, I never will be, but I understand their drive to get a chance to live a better life. I have worked with them, and I've seen how hard they work. Here in the Philippines, ang baba ng tingin nyo sa nurse. But these people work in really bad hospital conditions and are underpaid. In the states, they can specialize, at takot ang mga medical residents sa kanila if they are really good and conscientious. I really wonder how you can degrade these people. Tsk... tsk... just shows what kind of breeding you have. Nursing is a noble profession. Go inherit the family business from your dad. That doesnt mean that you have half the courage, intelligence and dedication of these people. Pera lang ang lamang mo sa mga taong ito. If you really want to know, while the other students are taking up stupid GenEd subjects, Human Anatomy na at Physiology ang subjects nila. Add to that the requisite Math 17.

Personally, what is the use of going to the best nursing school as long as you would get to be a nurse in the states or wherever anyway? As long as you pass your exams, fine, di ba? It's not naman as if once you get to the states, mag mamasters pa kayo or something? You can go anywhere as long as it has some credibility kahit paano. Although, personally, I would prefer it if you guys would really aspire for something more, like magmasters or specializing or whatever. But I guess that is how Filipinos are, content with earning dollars...

Raising the bar: WHO commends the UP College of Nursing for leadership role in Asia Pacific

It’s not just about bedpans and sponge baths.

A World Health Organization Collaborating Center (WHOCC) since 1989, the UP College of Nursing has maintained its leadership role in the field of nursing and health development in both the Philippines and the Asia-Pacific Region, earning for itself another four-year term as a WHOCC.

While CN used to be a WHOCC for nursing development in primary health care, it assumed a broader responsibility as WHOCC for nursing development last January 2. It will play this pivotal role until January 1, 2008.

CN has long been a leader in the field. As early as the early 1980s, it had helped shift the paradigm of the profession from hospital-based to community-oriented health care. CN also developed the nursing curriculum that the Commission on Higher Education now prescribes for all colleges of nursing.

As collaborating center, the College is entitled to receive consultants, materials and some grants from the WHO. It also gives the College access to the international network of institutions of nursing. As a WHOCC, the College is expected to “(1) take the lead in nursing development, with regard to standards development and monitoring of nursing education; involvement in advocacy, policy formulation, implementation and evaluation; and stewardship and governance in the nursing profession; (2) strengthen capabilities of nurses as they assume leadership roles in nursing education, practice and research; (3) develop appropriate and innovative approaches, tools and methodologies for health promotion, healthy lifestyle and quality of life; and (4) forge collaboration with government, WHO , other WHOCCs, universities, institutions, organizations and nursing interest groups.”

The College has lined up a matrix of activities as WHOCC in the next four years, although many of these activities are already ongoing.

For the education of health personnel for nursing services, the College shall continue to develop teaching and learning materials such as the resource book on clinical teaching and supervision in the BSN program, a basic textbook for the Behavioral Foundations in Health and Illness, and a training manual and video.

As for its graduate programs, CN is strengthening its MA programs in order to bring out the graduate nurse’s capacity as researcher, teacher and practitioner.

Likewise, the doctoral and post-doctoral programs will be enhanced through research networks for faculty and students; and collaborations with national doctoral nursing networks.

To answer the gaps in research in nursing education and practice, CN, aside from its continuing education programs, shall continue reaching out to other colleges to share expertise and provide consultancy services for nursing education, nursing research and clinical specialization, CN is also leading the way in information technology, developing a nursing human resource database and tracking system.

In line with being declared as a Center of Excellence for Nursing Education with a corresponding “catchment area” as a center, CN shall establish and strengthen linkages through a network of all Centers of Excellence for Nursing Education in the Philippines. It would also continue to promote consultative workshops of nursing leaders and stakeholders and encourage the submission of research proposals to funding agencies such as WHO and the Department of Health.

I'm not making this up nor am I hallucinating, but I swear I remember one particular board exam (I think 99 or 2000) that one UP nursing grad didn't make it in the exams. Someone even made a comment on it in the forum section of the UP College of Nursing Collective website (set up by a UPCN '93 grad). Am not kidding, UPCN's pass rate was 98% for that particular exam. Go research it in the PDI. I'm not sharing this to say something against the UPCN (I mean, 1 failing grad in its entire history is still fantastic!), I just want the truth. If anyone belongs to that class, confirm this or prove me wrong.

Silliman University has also one of the best nursing schools in the Philippines. They were ranked no. 4 by the PRC with an ave of 97.4 passing rate during board exams... but for about 5 years or so now, Silliman University College of Nursing has consistently posted a 100% passing rate in the board exams. Its one of the best schools outside Metro Manila and not only in Nursing Education but with Marine Biology, English and Literature and COEs in Nursing Education, Physics and Marine Biology, CODs in Techer Education among others...

in my opinion, wala naman sa skul yan e. i study in an unknown nursing school, but take it from me, we are just as competitive as the other schools. I even learned more there than what I did when I was in the state U. if you are dedicated to studying nursing, that makes you a good nurse in the future.

to the one who implies na parang alila ang mga nurses, I just want to point out that nurses undergo a licensure exam from the PRC, meaning PROFESSIONALs ang mga nurses. besides, don't tell me na itinuturing mo ring mga alila yung mga inuutusan nga mga boss sa office, cramming to meet up to the deadlines, and doing what they are ordered to do. face it dude, you are also an "alila" without you noticing it.

we nurses and future nurses do not treat that as pang-aalila. that is called "team effort" and organized delegation of tasks just as so we could save your *** whenever you come to the hospital needing "professional" and "educated" care only nurses and other medical health team personnel can give.
