maybe you guys should frequent hotels, music bars/louges and small concerts. There are a lot of great professional singers here that are not in mainstream showbiz. Unless of course, when you ask for the "best vocalist" -- you're not just looking for a good voice. May other requirements pa, like looks.

hindi banda yan. pangalan yan ng singer :D

eto yung outstanding vocalists para sa kin not necessarily in this order:

cooky chua - unique ang boses ng babaeng ito. tho last time i saw her perform parang it's not the same anymore. maganda pa din pero parang naging too breathy? i like their new album.

armi millare - i agree this girl has a beautiful sultry voice that can put to shame some of our divas. pero pag dating sa live performance, kulang sa control.

raddha - very soulful, powerful voice. what a waste that a she still has yet to get that much needed break.

bituin escalante - parang si raddha. i hope she gets to do a jazz/soul album in the future.

may bayot - she's even better than her sister lani misalucha.

pero kung isa lang ang pipiliin ko. cooky forever!

yup. early this year they released their self titled album which is more mellow than their previous efforts. cooky sounded breathier in this album.

paminsan minsan merong raket na iba si cooky. she does vocals for some blues bands and even does gigs solo. Havent seen her lately tho.

Up Dharma Down's Armi Millarmi. Dynamic and incredibly powerful. ON her best days, she sounds like a mix of Jill Scott, Eryka Badu, and Alicia Keys. When I first heard the UDD single "Laisy Daisy" on the radio, I thought I was listening to Badu..and was shocked that it was done by an OPM artist...makes me proud to be pinoy.

sige, I don't wanna be biased sa rock so among the "divas" here are what I think are good....

Bituin- her performance in Rent was just WOW. Especially in Season's of Love. I watched the US movie version, and Bituin was better than her Broadway counterpart

Lani Misalucha- her voice speaks for itself

Lea Salonga- her voice is always crystal clear and her diction is always perfect, whether she is singing in English or Tagalog

and *gasp* cant believe am saying this...

Sarah Geronimo- yes. I think this young lady has full of promise. It just sucks that she has to resort to endless and ear splitting biritan just to be in the same league as her idol Regine.I believe she could do and be more if she uses her gift right.

Anna Fegi is good too.

I met Barbie Almalbis on Christmas day at my bf's house. Sobrang nice and laid-back nila nung husband niya. I wanted to ask her so many questions but I didn't wanna bother them kasi bakasyon nila. Didnt even take pics. I guess we just gotta catch her show next year sa hollywood. I like her cus she writes her own songs.

:rolleyes: fyi, one doesn't have to be a part of a band to become a vocalist. the word "singer" is just another term to define a vocalist. the only difference between the two is that a singer produces music only whereas a vocalist encompasses non-melodic sounds and effectively includes anyone using their voice as part of a musical composition, including spoken word, death growl, hardcore screaming, and rapping.

Hindi pa ko nakakaita ng female solo artist na tinawag na vocalist. Promise. Is it just me o ikaw talaga?

isa pa 'to...saan ka ba nakatira, sa bundok? a solo artist could also be called a singer, a vocalist, or a musician. if anything, using the word "diva" to define a solo artist is what a stupid person would do. the only reason why we use the word "vocalist" most of the time when talking about a lead singer (lead vocalist) of a band is because we also got so used to calling the rest of the people in a band as backup singers or backup vocals. read my previous response and explanation para may matutunan ka at malaman mong ikaw ang may problema sa utak!

Nina, she's ok.

Kat of Sinosikat is good.

Sarah Geronimo is talented, though I'm not a fan of her music.

I also like the vocalist of Up Dharma Down.

Regine and Jaya are annoying. Jaya, is trying too hard to become a stereotypical diva while Regine, is well, skanky because she hooked up with a married man. Lol. But their singing is ok i guess.

Then you are missing a lot. Many of my OPM CDs are of Filipina singers and bands. ;)

It's pretty obvious you don't know any of her albums. :naughty: There are songs in her albums that are not "birit." She experiments/plays with her voice. :D It's just that the singles they choose are "birit" tracks. Then on t.v., they always make her do "birit" songs since not a lot can do it like she can (with ease). Even her concerts that are shown on t.v., they are edited so much that people just see show-stoppers. It is unfortunate that only her fans see/hear her soft and mellow side. :( That's why I'm glad that she released "Low Key" (her latest CD). :love: Perhaps through this album, the people who have put her in a box and labeled it "biritera" will see her in a different light and get her out of that box. *okay* :lol:
