“Thirty-four-year-old megastar Sharon Cuneta certainly needs no introduction. But the attention and adulation that has surrounded her for decades reached a new peak when she recently slimmed down and wowed audiences with her new svelte figure.

But whatever the scales read, Sharon has always possessed a healthy self-image, thanks to her parents “ who thought I was the most beautiful girl in the world!” she said with a laugh. “I would hear nice things from friends and strangers, too. Though as a kid, I always wanted to look more like one of Charlie’s Angels!”

“There are a million pretty girls around-Catherine Zeta-Jones, Madeleine Stowe, to name a couple-- and I do appreciate beauty,” Sharon said. “But it’s not all physical to me, definitely. A good disposition and attitude always shine through and add to charm and appeal.” Her own formula for beauty is simple: exercising on the treadmill, keeping her skin clean and wearing minimal or no makeup when she’s not working. “Just lip conditioner, lipstick, pressed powder, a bit of mascara sometimes, and concealer for dark under-eye circles on mornings-after-late-nights,” she said.

Sharon is also very proud that only daughter KC made it to MEGA’s 10 Most Beautiful list this year along with her. “But I have always told her that physical beauty is not one’s be-all and end-all. Beauty that comes from the inside is much more valuable. There’s nothing worse than a drop-dead gorgeous person with an awful attitude and personality!”

So what else is on the agenda for the woman who’s seemingly got it all? “To have a couple more children and to do well on my first try at recording for Asian release. And go on making movies, doing concerts and hosting my show! Hopefully, too, in the future, I’ll go back to school as well.”

Sharon, May Filmfest Movie
SUNTOK SA BUWAN Ni Emy Abuan-Bautista
Pilipino STAR Ngayon 08/28/2003

Makakasama niya sina Hilda Coronel at Angel Aquino.

Unconventional role
for Sharon Cuneta
Posted: 10:40 PM (Manila Time) | Aug. 29, 2003
By Rica Arevalo
Inquirer News Service

WATCH out for Unitel Pictures' "Crying Ladies" before the year ends. Mark Meily directs from a screenplay (originally titled "Bayan Luha") that won third prize at the Don Carlos Palanca Memorial Awards for Literature two years ago.

I met Meily, a successful TV commercial director, about a decade ago when he became my professor in cinematography. He would bring our class to his shoots and assign us to be clappers or video assistants. For our finals, he let us shoot scenes using a 35mm Panaflex or a Mitchell film camera. Although we never saw the rushes (the magazine could have been empty), he made us experience "real" shooting.

Surprisingly, after not seeing each other for years, he invited me to see the rough cut of "Crying Ladies." He wanted to hear what the youth has to say about his first feature film. Jokingly, he wanted me to grade him. Our roles were reversed.

The term "crying ladies" refers to women being hired to shed tears at funeral wakes. But this film is more than just that. Sharon Cuneta deviates from her traditional wife-y roles. Cunetas' character has served a term in prison for estafa and is struggling to gain custody of her son from her ex-husband (Ricky Davao). She is a gambler, liar and dreamer. From the beginning, the image of the stereotypical Filipino mother is forgotten.

Eric Quizon plays the eldest son of a Chinese father who has just passed away. Upon the request of his mother, he hires Sharon to cry at his father's wake and funeral. Cuneta, desperate for money, accepts the job and contacts her friends Angel Aquino and Hilda Koronel.

Aquino works for a religious foundation and keeps making the same mistake in her life, much to the dismay of the priest played by Johnny Delgado. Koronel's character, on the other hand, is a has-been actress whose biggest triumph was her having been part of the movie, "Darna and The Giants."

The film is witty, upbeat and unpredictable. We see a different Sharon Cuneta and we are glad she accepted the role. And as for Meily, we give him high mark for a job well done.

Let's hope "Crying Ladies" survives the box office competition in the December filmfest, so that more films like this will be produced.

PROFILE:

Since her emergence as a 12-year-old-childstar singing "Mr. DJ," Sharon has set new standards for popularity and artistry in nearly every area of show business. "Mr. DJ" gave her her first Platinum Record and for her very first album at that. There was no stopping Sharon after that first hit. Her career has became the most successful and most enduring career ever in local entertainment history.

Sharon was the pampered daughter of then Pasay City Mayor Pablo Cuneta and the former Elaine Gamboa. Both parents sang but never professionally so it was very easy for them to give in when she requested permission to do a recording. An uncle, then record producer and now Senator Tito Sotto, helped her out with the album. A few weeks before her 13th birthday, she recorded "Mr. DJ" and she never looked back.

Many hits followed until she turned 15 and the movies beckoned. Sharon made her acting debut in "Dear Heart", a teen melodrama. Just like what happened to her singing career, Sharon won instant acceptance as an actress and movie star. Of course, Sharon sang the theme songs for all of her hit movies and turned them into hits as well. In between singing and acting, Sharon also invaded television. Her show, "The Sharon Cuneta Show" lasted for more than a decade until she decided to take a year of sabatical for a year in 1997 to join her family in Boston. Now, she is back on a new TV show.

i also find this article from Aga's interview about Sharon, I just copy an excerpt, read on....

Next month, Aga's first movie opposite Sharon Cuneta, "Kung Ako Na Lang Sana," will finally be shown. Produced by Star Cinema and directed by Joey Javier Reyes, it also stars Tintin Bersola, Mickey Ferriols, Jennifer Sevilla, Patrick Guzman and Cindy Kurleto.

His role in the movie is not as serious as the one he portrayed in the moneymaker "Kailangan Kita," which teamed him up with Claudine Barretto, but it definitely is as substantial.

He confesses to have long nurtured the desire to do a movie with Sharon. Personally and professionally."

He refuses to talk much about the movie as of the moment. "Siguro, 'pag promo time na. After all, I want Sharon to be with me when we promote the movie," he explains.

Sharon is currently in Paris to accompany daughter KC, who is going to study there.

"Basta ang masasabi ko ay ito: I enjoyed doing the movie with Sharon. Makikita at mapi-feel naman ng manonood habang pinanonood ang movie that we had fun while doing it. Nowhere in it will you find a dull scene. It's a feel-good movie and it's exactly the kind which we need at this point in time when our country seems to be in a crisis.

"This film," he further says, "is one birthday gift which I appreciate so much. I am, in turn, giving this as a gift to the moviegoers, especially to those who just want to have fun and be entertained."
:)

And I just found out that available na pala sa VCD ang pelikulang Una Kang Naging Akin sa tatak.com, I will definitely buy a copy:D

hi guys, what's up with Mega?

you know guys, just to let you know, dont post anymore sa thread dito re: Sino Asar kay Ate Shawie, kasi halatang ang gumawa ng thread na yun ay fan ng ibang artista at I was thinking na pag nagre-reply tayo dun parang mas pinapalala nila and baka nga mas kikita pa yung thread na yun kasi wala silang (those against Sharon) ibang gagawin kundi ang siraan si Mega, before I used to post there, pero I gave my piece already and I know most of the PEXERS are intelligent enough to know what is the truth:)

So, ignore na lang natin, let us just concentrate dito sa forum ni Mega. Post anything new about her, and anything that we can discuss about her.

Mabuhay ang Sharonians and let us show them that kahit anong thread pa ang gawin nila, ok lang, that means sikat nga talaga si Mega dahil gustong-gusto siyang gamitin:D

(Day 2) Bumoto sa 2299!

Mas maraming boto, mas maganda at mas masaya. Kahit ilang boto ay malaya kayong magpadala. Bumoto na sa 2299.

Battling a market leader
You view the newly launched television commercial of pH Care Intimate Wash of Unilab Consumer Health with KC Concepcion, and you right away see the market leader stance that it has adopted. Only a year after megastar Sharon Cuneta effectively "laymanized" the product for any woman's everyday feminine care, research showed that pH Care Intimate Wash had overtaken the leading brand in market shares.

It will make a good case study in marketing to show the interesting details of how this year-old product managed to compete neck to neck in the same category with a global brand that had been a virtual monopoly in the Philippine market for almost two decades. The Unilab product development people should take a bow. Read the label of any bottle of pH Care Intimate Wash and you'll hit the reason for the phenomenal consumer purchase accorded it in so short a time. The consumer deduces straight out that she can use the new product without worrying about ph levels that could be too medically strong if she simply wants a normal thorough cleansing. She is reassured that it is gentle enough for everyday use.

And who did Basic Advertising choose to launch the first salvo regarding the new product's all-important attributes that would appeal to the ordinary lay woman who's simply conscious of hygiene? Sharon Cuneta, the renowned celebrity endorser whose imaging and credibility with women from all over the Philippines in veritably all socioeconomic levels is beyond belief. And, predictably, Sharon delivers her lines straight from the gut, without batting an eyelash, looking straight at the camera and effortlessly convincing the televiewer of absolute truth in her advertising spiel. The selling message that the ordinary consumer retained was simply: You want clean? This delivers with gentleness.

I strongly believe that, generally speaking, the fastest way for a brand new product to get the attention of a consumer is to use the right celebrity who is respected and currently aromatic to endorse the product with impact. In the same token, however, if the new product does not deliver and it turns out to be a lousy product, using the same big-name celebrity endorser will also be the fastest way to kill the product.

A few months after the extremely successful Sharon launch, Unilab and Basic Advertising gathered more marketing ammunition, this time employing a different strategy. Plainly fighting back was the erstwhile market leader, with a heritage and reputation as an ethical drug in the pharmaceutical scenario. In other words, it would be easy to throw at the new entrant hints of disparagement that will translate the strength of pH Care's communication campaign of gentleness to being overly laymanized. To preempt this, Sharon's talking head (medium shots of an endorser talking straight to TV camera) was piggybacked with another TV commercial. This separate commercial featured a most prominent gynecologist who talked generically about feminine wash. Great communication strategy. This was perceived as an indirect but strong support of the claims of Sharon, serving as the real authority to provide the scientific flavor to pH Care Intimate Wash. Incidentally, it did not hurt to learn from the grapevine that Dr. Greg Pastorfide was also Sharon's gynecologist. (I was told that the good doctor donated his entire talent fee to charity.)

The target consumer during the first year of advertising for pH Care Intimate Wash was undoubtedly the mature married woman. While there were undoubtedly brand switchers, subsequent research showed that the new product had expanded the feminine wash usage to other mature married women who were previously nonusers of any brand of feminine wash. And even more interestingly, although the primary targets were the mature married women who compose the bulk of the users of feminine wash, further research showed that the younger single women were now using the product as well. It is easy to believe that the young modern single woman, specially those belonging to the A, B and upper C socioeconomic groups would unhesitatingly include washing with a feminine wash to her everyday hygienic habits. Unilab Consumer Health Vice-President Jun Vivar, I'm sure, found a lot of parallels in his previous Unilever personal products experience in London.

What a logical follow-up advertising campaign then to come out with another bang and now talk specifically to the young single consumers. And what creative logic indeed -- take a bow, Basic Advertising -- to get no other than the beautiful daughter of the celebrity endorser who launched pH Care Intimate Wash. The obvious plus here is that this daughter has fast become a celebrity endorser herself, now tagged as "today's hottest teen icon." It couldn't have been better planned. The TV commercial of KC Concepcion for pH Care was grandiose, certainly befitting a product that has all the distinct characteristics and brand personality that's meant to be another star brand of Unilab.

The consumer deduces straight out that she can use the new product without worrying about ph levels that could be too medically strong if she simply wants a normal thorough cleansing.

just want to share this article.....

TINEXT ko si Sen. Kiko Pangilinan noong Martes.

“Thank you Manay Chit for remembering. For my birthday, Sharon (Cuneta) and I had a lunch date in a cafe by the streets of Paris. HHWPW -- holding hands while people watching.

My fave senator and lawyer texted me too. “Thank you Manay for writing about the truth in ur column.”

In so many occasions kasi na nakakausap ko si Sen.

Kiko has a very good lawyer -- at si Sharon lang naman ‘yon, huh!

:)

just want to share this from pilipino star ngayon...

Sharon Cuneta

by Michael Sutton

Filipino singer Sharon Cuneta is also known as "the Megastar"; if Michael Jackson is "the King of Pop" in America, then Cuneta is the Philippines' reigning diva. In 1978, Cuneta had her first hit single, "Mr. DJ," as a 12-year-old newcomer. The track was written for her by renowned Pinoy composer Rey Valera. At first, Cuneta didn't seem interested in the tune, but she agreed to sing it anyway. "Mr. DJ" catapulted Cuneta, the daughter of a rich Philippine mayor, into stardom; moreover, it triggered a number of successful collaborations between Cuneta and Valera. Cuneta also recorded her debut album, DJ's Pet, and its follow-up, Sharon, that year; a self-titled LP appeared in 1980. In 1981, Cuneta was chosen as Jukebox Princess at the BAMCI Promotions Awards; she was also nominated for Best Female Vocal Performance for "To Love Again" at the Cecil Awards in 1984. In the '80s, Cuneta also became one of the Philippines' most popular actresses. She married teen heartthrob Gabby Concepcion, and their daughter, Kristina Cassandra Cuneta Concepcion, was born on April 7, 1985. Cuneta and Concepcion eventually separated. As Cuneta grew older, the endearing innocence of "Mr. DJ" was replaced by a more soulful approach and slicker musical arrangements. Cuneta won an Awit Award in 1993 for Best Performance by a Female Recording Artist. Her album When I Love went platinum in 1999; it was followed by Nothing I Want More in 2001. Her second child, Simone Francesca Emmanuelle Cuneta Pangilinan, was born in 2000.

Siyempre, may dala rin silang mga gifts for the early holiday.

A massive giveaway promo is just one of the gifts you can get on this Sharon episode, as the show stages a call-in promo for tickets to not just one, but five of the hottest upcoming concerts in the country, from the F2 concert with Ken Zhu and Vanness Wu, to performances by new-style crooner Michael Buble, world-class talent Lea Salonga, Concert King Martin Nievera and legendary Filipino balladeers Rico J. Puno, Hajji Alejandro, Nonoy Zuñiga and Marco Sison.

Ano kaya ‘yon? Abangan na lang nating lahat.

Guests will also be coming in to give heartwarming surprises for Sharon, Martin, Willie and fellow guests, the Viva Hot Babes.

Celebrate Christmas months ahead of the crowd with Sharon ngayong gabi sa ABS-CBN.

Sharon, Aga: Friends turned lovers on screen

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

BOTH Sharon Cuneta and Aga Muhlach had long wanted to do a movie together. They would even talk about it everytime they bumped into each other.

Thus, when Star Cinema presented them with the script of "Kung Ako Na Lang Sana," written by Joey Javier Reyes, who eventually was also assigned to direct it, they both said "yes." At the time they accepted the project, they had not even had the chance to discuss the movie. But they both fell in love with the story, which is so simple but definitely heartwarming. Moreover, it's the type which happens talaga. Who has not heard of friends who suddenly find themselves in love with each other?

Well, in "Kung Ako Na Lang Sana," Emmy and Vince, played by Sharon and Aga, respectively, are members of a college barkada . As the movie progresses, we witness their lives unfold after college, as they approach their 30s until they enter their 40s.

In the barkada, Emmy and Vince are the closest, although they have contrasting traits. Emmy is the manang type. She is so driven in her career that, at times, she becomes too domineering. But she has a heart of gold. She can be very generous to her relatives and friends.

Vince is the cool chickboy who possesses a laid-back and stoic attitude towards life. His family is moneyed, though his parents are separated. He only became focused in his adult years.

Emmy and Vince are often far apart from each other and do not constantly communicate for extended periods of time. Yet, they affect and influence each other's lives until they find themselves in love with each other.

But they are also afraid to lose each other as friends if they cross that very fine line between friendship and romance.

Anyway, what has Sharon and Aga discovered about each other while doing the movie?

They were together when we psoed this question. Unable to give us an answer because they were both giggling, it was Direk Joyce Bernal who blurted: "Sabihin na ninyo 'yung standard answer that both of you discovered that the other was mabait, down-to-earth and hard working, kasi iyan naman talaga ang totoo."

More giggles from both Sharon and Aga.

A close friendship, they later tell you, developed not just between them but among all the stars in the movie.

Said Cristine Bersola, who played Sharon's best friend in "Kung Ako Na Lang Sana": "Half-way through the movie, Mega (her pet name for Sharon) already volunteered to sing at my wedding to Julius (Babao). Ni hindi pumasok sa isipan ko na imbitahan siya since [her going there] seemed to be too good to be true. Tapos, heto at kakanta pa siya."

"Ako, I cannot say enough good things about Sharon and Aga," said Jennifer Sevilla. "They impressed me since alam mo namang malalaki silang artista, pero never nilang ipinadama sa amin ito. Mabait pareho talaga sila."

Aga told Dominic Ochoa that he had always wanted to have him do a movie with him. Said Dominic: "Doon daw sa 'Kailangan Kita,' he suggested daw na makasama ako sa cast. But, for one reason or another, 'di ito naganap. Pero, 'di bale na. Magkasama namin kami ngayon dito sa 'Kung Ako Na Lang Sana'."

Both Sharon and Aga agree that Mickey Ferriols has what it takes to make it in showbiz. Mickey is effective in her role as the girlfriend of Aga who willingly decides to take the back seat when she discovers that Aga was more in love with her best friend, Sharon.

"Kung Ako Na Lang Sana" is not just a comeback movie for Mickey, it's her biggest and most challenging role, so far.

Sharon: I'd rather getpregnant than do tour
Posted: 10:21 PM (Manila Time) |
Sept. 08, 2003By Marinel R. CruzInquirer News Service

Refuses to commit

MEGASTAR Sharon Cuneta refused to commit to any of the three producers, who had been wanting to produce a US concert tour for her since last year, because her doctors advised her not to do anything strenuous so she could get pregnant again.

Sharon said she and her husband, Senator Francis "Kiko" Pangilinan, even considered a procedure called in vitro fertilization (meaning outside the body or, literally, in a test tube), "but we had Frankie even before we could carry out the plan, so there was no need anymore."

Sharon, however, said she would go for in vitro fertilization, "if I'm desperate."

"There's a lot of medical procedures available to couples now," she pointed out. "It would be such a waste if no one would avail themselves of any of it."

In in vitro fertilization, a human embryo is created in special medical clinics by mixing the man's sperm and the woman's eggs in test tubes. The viable zygote or fertilized egg is put back in the woman, if she is capable of completing a pregnancy, or in a surrogate mother, where they develop into perfectly normal babies in the usual way.

Sharon had just arrived Sunday from a five-week vacation in the United States and France with her husband and their six-year-old daughter Frankie.

While part of the trip was to help Sharon's eldest daughter, actress/model/VJ KC Concepcion, settle down to her new home in Paris where she is going to college as a freshman, the couple were hoping to have a new baby boy.

"But I've just gotten my period," Sharon said Monday, over lunch to promote "Kung Ako Na Lang Sana," her very first movie with Aga Muhlach. "I was so disappointed that I cried."

The megastar was 37 when she became pregnant with Frankie, and only after several incidents of miscarriage.

"I miss performing, but it's such a great commitment," she explained. "I will just continue doing my weekly show on ABS-CBN and promote my movies. I will not commit to anything that my doctors consider too strenuous."

Sharon, her husband and children spent the first week of their vacation in Los Angeles where they visited Disneyland, Lego Land and Universal Studios. The senator celebrated his birthday last Aug. 24 with a dinner with his wife in Paris, Sharon said.

"The trip had been really romantic and relaxing even though Kiko had to go home twice to attend Senate sessions," she added. "We could see the Eiffel Tower from our hotel room window."

She declined to answer questions about 18-year-old KC, her daughter with former actor Gabby Concepcion, "because KC requested me not to talk about her anymore."

"She is pretty much settled there," Sharon said. "She'll come home during breaks."

She said she was supposed to air a video of the family's trip on her musical variety show "Sharon" on ABS-CBN last Sunday, but decided to give in to her daughter's request not to show it any more.

"KC would be pretty much on her own," the mother said. "She's very excited. She made sure to finish all her work here before leaving. I miss her whenever I see her billboards."

No to politics

Because she does not want to stress herself out, Sharon said throwing her hat into the political arena is now the last thing on her mind.

"Politics in the Philippines is in such a sorry state," she said. "In fact, if I didn't love my country and my work here so much I would've left a long time ago."

She was reacting to reports that she is running for Pasay mayor in 2004. Her late father, Pablo Cuneta, was mayor of Pasay for 41 years until he retired in 1998.

"I'll do better as an ordinary citizen," she said. "I like making movies, this is what I'm made to do."

"Kung Ako Na Lang Sana," directed by Jose Javier Reyes for Star Cinema, will be shown on Sept. 24. Sharon described Aga as "someone I've always admired as an actor."

"Kung Ako Na Lang Sana" is about close friends Emmy (Sharon) and Vince (Aga) who end up as lovers. It also stars Dominic Ochoa, Jennifer Sevilla, Christine Bersola, Mickey Ferriols and Shintaro Valdez.

In December, Sharon will be busy again promoting her 2003 Metro Manila Film Festival entry, "Crying Ladies." Soon, she will be producing a movie for Comedy King Dolphy, with Unitel's Tony Gloria, who also produced Laurice Guillen's "American Adobo."

*****

“Tito Dolphy is an institution na parang you wanna give him something he deserves at very loving person na napakabait talaga,” sey niya.
“When this offer of Star Cinema came at mabasa ko `yung script, nagustuhan ko agad because it’s a feel-good movie.
“And we’re all very natural dito.

*****

here is another article....

Sharon, ’di nabuntis sa Paris
Julie E. Bonifacio

Sharon is already looking forward to the Christmas vacation para makasama ulit ang eldest daughter niya.
"Whole of four years, KC will be studying abroad. But the question is will she move to America after a couple of years in Europe? She may continue in Paris or in America.
Isang commercial ni Sharon ang ‘di pa lumalabas and she is slated to do two others.

‘Yun pala, naka-off ang aircon.

Finally, Sharon and Aga together in a movie

STAR Cinema succeeds in doing what others thought was almost impossible! After other film outfits' failed attempts to bring together two gigantic, much-awarded and brightest movie stars on screen, Star Cinema brings together the Megastar, Miss Sharon Cuneta and "Ultimate Romance Man" Aga Muhlach for the first time on screen in "Kung Ako Na Lang Sana."

Jose Javier Reyes, of the girl power comedy "Pinay Pie," writes and directs the movie. Reyes, a filmmaker associated with feel-good movies, teams up with production designer Edgar Littaua to sift a story whereby every scene becomes a traipse down memory lane for anybody who has even held a torch for a friend.

"Kung Ako Na Lang Sana" traces the circumstances and common grounds where friendship can grow, then leaves to emotions and thoughts the answer to this question: When does friendship end and love begin?

Using the catchy Aliw Awardee song of Bituin Escalante composed by Soc Villanueva as the movie's title, "Kung Ako Na Lang Sana" laments about the love that could have been more beautiful if only the sincere or lonesome were chosen for a partner. Someone who has just always been there but has always been unnoticed.

The beautiful film shows two casual acquaintances who become best buddies who bicker and give each other the good and awful truth about each other only to realize who they really are meant for. Emmy (Sharon Cuneta) is driven, sometimes domineering and ambitious. Vince (Aga Muhlach) is perennially cool and laid-back. Ironically these differences draw them to become close friends. When things almost fall apart for both of them, what they've suppressed all these years naturally come out. Proving that there was always something deeper and intimate between them!

No pair is better to head the cast of such an irresistibly charming movie but screen stars Sharon Cuneta and Aga Muhlach!

It is almost unbelievable that Sharon and Aga would make a movie together at first. Ultimately busy people with shows, commitments left and right, and endorsements here and there, both stars metamorphosed as today's multi-media icons. But with Star Cinema's proven track record to make unlikely, even unpredictable, team-ups, it is obviously an understatement to call "Kung Ako Na Lang Sana" a movie. "Kung Ako Na Lang Sana" is the "Ultimate Romantic Event of the Decade"!

"Kung Ako Na Lang Sana" exemplifies the saying that friendship, indeed, blooms into love. Typical of best friends of opposite sexes, Emmy and Vince are wary of crossing that very fine line to romance as it may undermine their friendship. Should things do not work out when they become lovers, what will happen to them? Their apprehension on losing their friendship is a huge factor for them to hold their feelings in check. How they confront what they really feel within for each other remains their biggest apprehension.

With Sharon and Aga in the movie are Dominic Ochoa, Jennifer Sevilla, Mickey Ferriols, Christine Bersola, Patrick Guzman, Shintaro Valdez, Gabe Mercado, Butz Aquino, Ms. Chat Silayan, Adrian Albert and Reggie Curley.

"Kung Ako Na Lang Sana" opens in theaters on Sept. 24.

DIREK Joey Javier Reyes is one of local showbiz's most prolific minds. The director of the Sharon Cuneta-Aga Muhlach starrer, "Kung Ako Na Lang Sana," makes sure he gives his best in anything he does.

And his genius is not just confined to directing for TV and in the movies. He has had the chance to do almost anything connected to filmmaking. He even has a book to his name.

Direk Joey will be at the helm of a soap which Lorna Tolentino and Christopher de Leon will topbill for GMA 7.

He recently compiled his essays - a number of which saw print in widely circulated newspapers and magazines - into a book. It's now selling like hotcakes.

Do you know that he is also into the making of bags, which he designs himself? He also makes accessories, most of which are for export.

Nakaka-tempt talaga, since ang payment would be in dollars. Kaso nga, personalized ako kung gumawa. E, may deadline siya. I had to pass that up," he says with a sigh.

* * *

Direk Joey is most proud of "Kung Ako Na Lang Sana."

He reveals that when the project was offered to him, he was inside his car. He almost fell off his seat.

"Tanong ko kay Olive Lamasan (a well-known and award-winning director herself and a Star Cinema top gun) totoo ba itong naririnig ko? I know naman kasi na any director would, wika nga, give his arm para lang mai-direk ang dalawa sa isang movie," he relates enthusiastically.

Individually, he has worked with Sharon and Aga. How was the experience?

"Twice the fun, twice the challenge ang naramdaman ko [now that I'm directing them together]," he replies. "A, basta, from start to finish, ang naisip ko ay to give my best. And I think everyone, including the moviegoers, will agree with me that this film is one of my best works."

* * *

Sharon and Aga have seen the movie themselves. Both consider the movie a cinematic achievement. In its simplicity, you find a rare gem which only Joey Reyes can create.

The two stars share: "'Di ba known si Direk Joey for his snappy, at times, catty but, nevertheless, endearing dialogues? Well, dito sa 'Kung Ako Na Lang Sana,' nandoon ito!

"Parang 'di nga kami umaarte sa movie since all of the scenes ay nangyayari.

And among friends, 'di puwedeng walang 'di magkaibigan. Una, dahil sa constant togetherness. Besides, there's only but a thin line between friendship and romance, 'di ba?"

Also starring in Star Cinema's "Kung Ako Na Lang Sana" are Cristine Bersola, Jennifer Sevilla, Do* * *

Joey Reyes has directed Sharon Cuneta and Aga Muhlach individually before. Sharon, in one of her best films ever, "Nang Iniwan Mo Ako"; Aga in "Bakit Labis Kitang Mahal," "May Minamahal," "Nag-iisang Bituin" and "Narinig Mo N B ang L8test."

He was driving his car when he got a call from Star Cinema that he'd direct the first teamup of Sharon and Aga, "Kung Ako Na Lang Sana." "I nearly fell off my seat. I said, are you kidding? And Olive Lamasan told me they're not. I'm really flattered that sa dinami-dami ng directors nila, they chose me, but it's also scary because there will be great pressure since first time nila together, so I took it as a great challenge, from the brainstorming sessions we had up to the last day of shooting. I now consider it a blessing dahil may purpose pala ang pagiging filmmaker ko because the film is something we all care about: friendship. And in these times when the country is so magulo, it is in our friends that we can find the comfort and balance we need."

Sharon and Aga play good friends from their 20's up to the present when they're nearing their 40's. Sharon is about to be an old maid while Aga is so happy with being single but they eventually realize that they are really meant for each other. The film is the movie debut of Tintin Bersola as Sharon's best friend and the comeback film of Mickey Ferriols as Aga's girlfriend. minic Ochoa, Shintaro Valdez, Patrick Guzman and Mickey Ferriols.

Kris interviewed Sharon while Korina taped Aga. The rest of the cast were live though. Sharon's interview was first shown. Kris asked her about working with Aga, it was basically the same thing as what as being said in her other interviews---more or less, ganoon. Kris then showed pictures of her past boyfriends (except Gabby, bakit kaya?). Siguro dahil na mention niya si Gabby when she was talking about Albert. She said Albert was just a phonepal and that was it. With Richard, when he wanted to get back together with her, she knew that was it no more going back. It's just better for them to be friends. The part I remember about Rowell was that he's a decent man and Robin I don't really remember too well. Kris of course saved Kiko's pic for very last. Then Kris asked Sharon who among her past bfs except for Kiko who she would say "kung ako na lang sana ang iyong minahal?". Sharon just laughed and I coudln't hear her answer, sorry. Then before the interview was over she talked about the soundtrack of the movie.

After the commercial, they showed Korina's interview with Aga. Aga said on the first day lang he was nervous about doing with Sharon because kasi daw si Sharon na daw ang kaharap and in the 20 years he's been in showbiz, never did he get the chance to work with Sharon. Also explained the same thing said in newspapers about why it took so long for them to do a movie together. He said that he and Sharon had a bet that who would lose weight first.

Then Korina asked Aga about Charlene and the concept of the movie and his showbiz anniv next year. That was basically it. After it was over, commercial and then the rest of the cast went on and they also showed the trailer of the movie. It was the same trailer as shown on Sharon.

13 (Food and Entertainment Center, Ayala Center Cebu).

Very much single din siya dahil wala raw siyang time for love sa rami ng kanyang trabaho.

Guys, this is just an excerpt from the article:)

Jim loves coming here, he said but although he has been around the country, he is yet to see Boracay. “I’m still waiting for BMG to make good their promise,” he jived at the record company which releases his albums locally. But seriously speaking, Jim takes pride in the friendship he has forged with our local artists, among them Sharon Cuneta, Martin Nievera and Pops Fernandez. The former even sent him a gift which he truly appreciates very much, he said.

Have a wonderful weekend to all:)

Sharon, gustung-gusto ng mabuntis uli
(Allan Diones)

Nag-gain siya ng weight after her 5-week vacation with her family sa Los Angeles at Paris dahil super-eat siya abroad. “We were hoping talaga na makakabuo ulit kami ni Kiko, kasi, we really want another baby, eh. “Frankie is turning 3 years old na at gusto na rin niya ng baby brother. Ako rin, nami-miss ko nang magka-baby ulit. “Gusto talaga namin for Frankie is a baby brother, pero pwede ring baby sister. Tinuturuan kasi namin. Sabi ko sa kanya, ‘Be nice to your younger brother when you become an ate, ha?’ “Kaya lang nagka-period ako bago kami umuwi rito, eh. Sayang, walang nabuo. But we will keep on trying, kasi hindi na rin ako tumatanggap ng masyadong maraming trabaho ngayon, eh. “Eh, hirap na nga ako noon with Frankie, di ba? Ingat na ingat ako ‘coz I already had two miscarriages then. “Sana lang, mabuntis ako ulit soon. You’re not getting any younger, so you’re aware of these things. “Once I get pregnant, bawas talaga ng trabaho. Pahinga muna. As in nag-bonding silang buong pamilya doon. Beautiful and romantic ang ambience kumbaga, so itsura sila ng honeymooners. “Sabi sa akin ng anak ko, ‘Mom, now that I’m already settled here, please don’t talk about me anymore even in your show ‘coz everyone knows na.’ She’s doing okay there, she’s enjoying her privacy.” After a year or two pa siya magde-decide if she’ll stay in Europe or she’ll continue her studies in America. She’s still deciding kung anong course ang kukunin niya. Nalulungkot at naiiyak si Sharon kapag naaalala niyang her daughter is miles away from home pero may short vacations si KC every now and then, so, pwede itong umuwi rito.

Last si Kiko. yung ibang guys di pinakita bakit kaya?

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Masayang-masaya sina Aga Muhlach at Sharon Cuneta sa pagtatambal nila sa feel-good movie na Kung Ako Na Lang Sana.

Kuwento ni Aga, “During our scenes together, I had to pinch myself, ‘Si Sharon na ba talaga itong kaeksena ko?’ I kept asking myself. ‘Totoo na ba ito?’ Sounds corny but this is a long-cherished dream come true.”

Sumang-ayon si Sharon, “Memorable. In more senses than one. Aga and I had a grand time together.

“We had so much fun that we actually gained some weight from all the eating we did between all the talking and the kuwentuhan during breaks…

“We play barkadas and we start falling in love. We try to keep it from our other barkadas because it might ruin our friendship.

“It happens in real life. It happens all the time, di ba?

“It’s important that Aga and I are friends because our roles call for us to be comfortable with each other.

“Otherwise, it will show kung hindi kayo kampante sa isa’t isa.”

Every other day kung mag-usap ang mag-ina. :)

Sharon, working hard and trying to get pregnant too!
Crispina Martinez. Belen

At the second presscon for the movie “Kung Ako na Lang Sana,” the very first team-up of megastar Sharon Cuneta and Aga Muhlach, the former stressed that she’s been working hard the past months and that she’s also still trying hard to get pregnant again.

So it’s not true after all that there’s trouble in her marital life. And to prove that they’re still together, her husband Senator Kiko Pangilinan dropped by to see her at ABS-CBN where the presscon was held.
We had the chance to ride with the senator in the elevator going down and we asked what he thought caused such rumor of an impending separation between him and his wife. He said “I really don’t know but I believe that it’s politically motivated. But I told my wife not to be bothered by it, and for us to just keep on loving each other. Because the truth will prevail and the truth is the best defense for us.”
It’s been a very productive year so far for megastar Sharon Cuneta. After “Kung Ako Na Lang Sana,” which opens today in Metro Manila theaters, she still has two movies to finish before the year ends. One of them is “The Crying Ladies,” an entry to the 2003 Metro Manila Film Festival.
“I’ve been working a lot really, trying hard to deposit to my talent account,” she said jokingly. And she hastened to add: “I’m also trying hard to get pregnant again!”
Sharon doesn’t like the impression that she is super rich, and so she doesn’t need to work so hard. But isn’t she the heiress to her father’s wealth? Someone intimated during the presscon. Sharon denied this, saying she didn’t get anything because her father did not leave any will. “Wala akong nakuha, maybe somebody else did but we don’t know. I’m taking care of my mother.” She stressed that she’s not that interested in any inheritance, after all “my father gave us the things in life when he was still alive,” she said.
Anyway, this year big things happened in her life, like KC’s turning 18, her going to Paris to study. “These have all been stressful, especially the separation from KC. And then I had to prepare for the three movies. From January to July, I rarely had time to rest. Work had taken me away from my family. But after these three movies, I will just do a special for ABS-CBN, and concentrate na lang sa TV show ko, which is really doing well these days,” Sharon said. A concert at the Araneta Coliseum with Ogie Alcasid is also in the works, but “nothing is definite yet.”
“Kung Ako na Lang Sana,” where Sharon plays a manang-type character, was directed by Jose Javier Reyes. It also stars Dominic Ochoa, Jennifer Sevilla, Shintaro Valdez, Gabe Mercado, Patrick Guzman, Christine Bersola, Reggie Curly, Mickey Ferriols, Chat Silayan and Butz Aquino.

Wala silang idea na niloko pala sila - after five years lang nilang naramdaman. "I didn’t know the sakit until five years.

One year ding iri-renovate ang nasabing house.

In fact, nai-enjoy na niya.

Hindi nila alam, kailangan kong magtrabaho to pay my dues," she avers.

This year, tatlong pelikula ang ginawa niya including Kung Ako Na Lang Sana at Crying Ladies na Filmfest entry.

Next year, plano niyang magpahinga as in total rest.

Lea, a sharonian Posted 9-18-2003 18:12

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
was so touched by this, juz wana share!...

-------
Lea's heartfelt homecoming

DIRECTLINE By Boy Abunda
The Philippine Star 09/19/2003

It was a heartfelt homecoming for Miss International Star Lea Salonga.

After all, the PICC Plenary Hall was the same venue where she mounted her past successful concerts, from the very first A Miss Called Lea to The Broadway Concert.

That is why the concept of the all-OPM Songs from Home concert last Sept. 12 and 13 proved all the more appropriate. It was refreshing (to say the least) to hear the toast of Broadway and West End perform songs from her own country with gusto.

Indeed, Lea interpreted each song with not just technical prowess (the girl is pitch perfect as always), but also with profound pride - with aplomb and much affection.

From the jubilant opening (Pagdating ng Panahon/Salamat, Salamat Musika) to the three rousing encore numbers (Laki sa Layaw - Jeprox, Ikaw and Balut), Lea was glowing with fiery Filipino-ness.

When Lea was singing Anak so quietly, so honestly at the PICC Plenary Hall stage, it was so heart-rending I thought angels were going to descend from heaven to wipe her tears. This was truly a moving rendition of Freddie Aguilar's Anak - the best I have heard in a long, long time. The simplicity weakened my knees and I started to tremble as I was in perpetual standing ovation at the back of the theater in a dark corner near the place where ushers rest. Lea was magnificent in each number of the show, but she was divine in Anak.

In Laki sa Layaw, she was a fascinating headbanger having great fun. She was a joy to watch. She was jeproks without trying hard. Bettina had to stop me from banging my head against the PICC wall, lost in Lea's jeproks interpretation.

Even a non-Lea fan would have surely been charmed by her firm declaration at the start of the show, "I am a Filipino!"

While her compatriots are humming Cantopop melodies, Lea bravely decided to pay homage to local musicmakers - the composer and performers who have somehow touched her life, both as an artist and as a woman, through the years.

It was her simple way of expressing her gratitude to artists whose songs have enriched the soundtrack of her life - make that, the soundtrack of all our lives.

As such, her rendition of the Metropop finalist Hahanapin Ko, which she dedicated to one of its two creators (the other is Jimmy Santiago), Jose Mari Chan, who was in attendance on the second night, became genuinely poignant. As performed by Lea, the maudlin song on homesickness became a stirring anthem for Pinoy OFWs everywhere.

After all, Lea herself knows only too well how painful it is to be far away from the land of one's birth.

Most of the OPM songs included in the are the landmark `70s and `80s hits Lea grew up with - like the Dulce showstopper Ako ang Nagwagi, Ako ang Nasawi. In her spiel, Lea recounted how, as a little girl, she caught Dulce's powerful performance in an Asian songfest on TV. She even acknowledged the presence of Dulce in the audience on the second night, blowing her a kiss from centerstage.

Dulce, my favorite singer, must have been proud of Lea's version of Ako Ang Nagwagi, Ako ang Nasawi. It was soul-stirring interpretation, so different, so respectful of the original version.

But Lea also had a field day, warbling Filipino songs from an earlier era - specifically the `50s obras of Juan Silos and Levi Celerio (Waray-Waray, Galawgaw) and of Lucio San Pedro and Levi Celerio (Sa Ugoy ng Duyan).

When she sang Waray-Waray, I felt proud for all the Waray women, who are tough, sturdy and industrious. Yes, Waray women are more ferocious when provoked than Waray men. Lea was a lovely, funny Waray woman in Waray-Waray.

She also tipped her hat to more recent singer-songwriter tandems like Basil Valdez-George Canseco and Regine Velasquez-Ogie Alcasid in two well-applauded medleys.

Highlight of the evening was Lea's touching tribute to "one of my favorite artists, one of my favorite people," Sharon Cuneta. Respectful and remaining true to the original interpretations, Lea's medley of Sharon's "modern classics" (from Langis at Tubig to Sana'y Wala Nang Wakas) was not only compelling, but unforgettable.

Another memorable medley was the Buchikik/Spageti Song and Manila Sound number, which Lea rendered with guests Ariel Rivera and Ogie Alcasid.

Can you imagine the Tony and Olivier award-winning actress-singer belting out the Yoyoy Villame novelty classic Buchikik with chutzpah and conviction?

With Lea leading the way, Ogie and Ariel also hammed it up onstage when they crooned such `70s hits as Sampaguita's Bonggahan, Hotdog's Bongga Ka Day and Beh Buti Nga and the Hagibis's Katawan and Legs.

Lea also reprised her well-received version of the jukebox ditty Tukso (originally included in the Songs from the Screen concert) and threw in another campy ballad Isang Linggong Pag-ibig for good measure.

"It was thinking outside of the box," Lea said of the inclusion of these two very un-Lea songs.

Truth be told: Lea was uncharacteristically emotional in Songs from Home. Not that she is aiming to dethrone such sentimental drama queens as Imelda Papin and Eva Eugenio. But in this concert, Lea is revealing more of herself, more of the real Lea.

Case in point is the only new song in the lineup, Two Worlds (with music by Louie Ocampo and lyrics by Freddie Santos, Lea's Daddy Warbucks in Annie). As she interpreted this wistful love song on the tentativeness of happiness, the mixed emotions of a future bride, Lea was on the verge of tears. In fact, the tears flowed freely by the songs, final note (This concert was her despedida de soltera, after all).

In Songs from Home, we detected a less guarded, more giving performer in Lea.

"In this show, we are going to relax a bit," she professed during the concert's launch at the Elbow Room. "We are going to let our hair down."

And Lea, along with guests Ariel and Ogie, musical director Gerard Salonga and stage director Bobby Garcia (even the entire 50-strong Manila Philharmonic Orchestra), pulled it off - staging a concert with lots of laughter, lots of warmth, lots of heart, lots of soul.

In Magsimula Ka, Two Worlds and the Canseco medley, Lea was magnificent. She was glorious. If one can be canonized on the basis of seamless, brilliant, soulful performance, Lea should be declared a "saint." And please don't call her a diva - the word has suddenly become senseless in reference to Lea, who that night was a great testament that the Filipino is worth living for.

:)

Sharon Cuneta finally gets to play an off-beat role

By Archie Liao

MEGASTAR Sharon Cuneta dares to be different as she faces the biggest challenge of her entire acting career. In Unitel Films’ Crying Ladies, an entry to the 2003 Metro Manila Film Festival, she treats her fans to a new and unique Sharon as she essays an offbeat role.

“It’s about time that I should do this kind of stuff. Sometimes, it comes with maturity. To advance, you must be able to reinvent yourself. Kasi, no artist is indispensable. You are as good as your last movie. You should consider yourself, obsolete, so you should find ways by which you can update your talents and skills. Crying Ladies is not actually an experimental movie. Neither could it be considered as a smorgasbord movie. This is the first time I’m going to play an offbeat part. Here, kasama ko sina Hilda Koronel and Angel Aquino,” enthused Shawie. In the movie, she plays the role of a funeral wake crier, who, along with Hilda Koronel and Angel Aquino, was hired by a Chinese businessman played by Eric Quizon during the lamay of his deceased father. “Actually, interesting ’yung twist ng story. Here I’m an ex-convict who is obsessed to regain the custody of her child from her estranged husband at all costs. Ricky Davao portrays the role of my estranged husband. I have a lot of dramatic moments here,” Cuneta added. Asked if she was afraid that her die-hard fans might not be able to relate to her role, she said, “I believe that I have a very good material. Even my co-stars like Hilda and Angel, they’re one of a kind. They’re terrific especially Hilda who plays the role of a has-been actress na ginagawang “career” ang pagiging “funeral wake crier.” Regarding my director, Mark Meilly, although he does not belong to the league of established directors that I have worked with, he shows a lot of promise. He’s very good sa pagmo-motivate ng kanyang mga stars.” Sharon also said that she does not aspire to get an award for Crying Ladies but would indeed be happy, if her followers patronize her movie. Regarding the issue that her last team-up with Richard Gomez in the movie Walang Kapalit wasn’t a big success she said, “In fairness, kumita naman ’yung pelikula, kaya lang it’s not as expected. It happens naman even with our established stars na. You win some, you lose some. There are times na “click” ang drama, ang action, ang romance, and comedy but not all the time. Box-office stars even in Hollywood and in the local movie industry have their shares of flops,” she rationalized. When asked why she seemed to be the most sought after product endorser by advertisers, she said, “It’s actually clean living. When you are a product endorser, you must be a role model. Hindi ka dapat masisilipan ng butas. Kasama pa nga, sa contract mo, iyong mga taboos or dos and don’ts. Then, kapag artista kasi, talaga ginagaya. Malakas ang recall sa mga tao. Advertisers dislike people na “negative” ang dating sa tao, and people remember you for that. As a product endorser, you must be credible, otherwise, they won’t believe in your products.” In her latest movie under Star Cinema, Kung Ako Na Lang Sana, titled after Bituin Escalante’s award-winning song, she admitted “It’s a dream-come true for me. 1991 pa gusto ko nang makasama sa movie si Aga, kasi kahit sinong leading lady, hindi complete ang career unless she is paired off with Morning. Unfortunately, there’s a lack of good material for us. When I read the script of Joey Reyes, I really fell in love with the story. In the movie, we essay the roles of best friends who end up as lovers.” When asked about the rumors regarding her plans to run for office as mayor of Pasay City, she curtly replied,” I have no political ambitions. I am not cut out for politics. Hayaan na lang natin ang husband ko. I don’t want to mess up my life. I want to spend quality time with my kids as a mother, especially that my panganay is already a teener. Besides, mas ‘love’ ko ang show business kesa politics.”

share ko lang......from daily tribune:)

...Sharon Cuneta and Aga Muhlach are TVC competitors! They endorse competing brands; for her, McDonald's and Winner corned beef; for him, Jollibee and Argentina corned beef. But do you know that both would like to do a TVC together as they revealed in the recent Kung Ako Na Lang Sana presscon? They have even developed a script, one where they compare brand preferences and agreeing on the product, preferably a toothpaste, in the end. Cute, right?...:)

i just want to share some facts with you guys.

my friend's female relatives used to be the suki of fanny serrano. pero nasisira ang buhok nila when they were patronizing fanny's salon. they switched to jerome chang and other salon de manila (when it was one of the better ones) or even james cooper.

sharon used to be a regular at jesi mendez. kasabay ni pops nuon. i saw sharon a couple of times at jesi's salon on evangelista street.

when sharon went to hong kong a few years back for a concert (2 yrs ago yata), nakita ng isang friend ko based sa hong kong (na katabi ni sharon sa table) na medyo magaspang ang buhok. nasira yata ni fanny serrano. don't get me wrong. yung friend ko sa hong kong, die hard sharonian yan.

pls advise sharon to switch hair dresser/hair stylist. hwag na si fanny.

Regarding show biz
Posted: 10:10 PM (Manila Time) | Sept. 20, 2003
By Jo-Ann Q. Maglipon
Inquirer News Service
AMAZING the snobberies in these parts. I knew it then, but since becoming editor of Yes! magazine three years ago, I've had an even greater fill of it.

It constantly astounds me, for instance, how middle-class types with English that leaves me dizzy love to make fun of the English of movie stars. Stars speak in English often because the questions posed to them, incidentally by television interviewers with agonizing English themselves, happen to be in that language. Otherwise, only a very few stars go around willingly beating themselves with a tongue that can make any Pinoy jaw lock.

But, believe it, there are stars in show biz with a command of English, both of idiom and diction, that can put these middle-class types to shame any old day. And more than just speaking it well, they also write-suavely, smartly, saucily-in that language.

Sharon, Kris, and Lucy are just three names that come to mind. You don't ever want to be snobbish around these three. Sharon finishes seriously thick books you can't even pronounce, is simply fluid in speech, and, as her many notes to everybody proves, is one hell of a communicator. Kris is just so quick verbally, she'll leave you witless, even as her columns clearly reek with verve and smarts. And Lucy is one lady who can make herself comprehend anything-from angst to activism to antiques-that's put on the table, as many dinners with her have shown, and, like Kris, writes columns that are an editor's dream.

What's more, these women make all this look easy-while all these snickering types are stuck wondering how these women can be so good-looking at the same time!

I've never understood why it doesn't occur to these middle-class types that it is they who got stuck in college yet never learned to speak, much less write, English with any smoothness. Yet they expect movie stars-many of whom were too talented or too poor to stay beyond high school-to be proficient in the thing. How smart is that?

In many yuppie circles, I feel there's the same bias. They host all these big and small dinner parties where they always-and I mean always-make the latest show biz buzz part of the meal. Not even: Why does film censorship cause low-audience turnout? Or: Is movie production headed toward large-scale ownership by TV stations? (Too deep.) It's: Who's dating whom, where, since when, really? And: Are you sure she's the first wife? (Within their range.)

I almost suspect that in these dinners there are so many undercurrents-two are into forbidden love, one's family business is floundering, they're backing different presidents for 2004-that the only time tension disappears is when they talk show biz. More accurately, that's the only time they all perk up. In which case, they ought to be thanking, and not scoffing at, the stars.

I even know business types who don't read much beyond bestsellers and made-for-movie books, but who actually raise their brows when a star says on TV that she writes some poetry when lonely. If poetry is the language of the soul, who better to write it than a star who's been battered, betrayed, and bullied?

If Klaudia Koronel ever took it up, I'd never think to ask why. This is a woman who grew up in a squatter's area, had a father who lashed at her with a belt whose buckle knocked her teeth off, and gave her all to an industry that's left her high and dry after she'd given it her best ("Tuhog," "Live Show," "Hubad sa Ilalim ng Buwan"). Klaudia need not even invent a soul. Last I heard, she's turned to computer-designing her own calling cards and Hallmark-type greeting cards when in need of diversion, which is certainly more creative than yuppies turning to gossip.

Now that word gossip.

Why is it that all these people who like to appear intelligent or dedicated or intense treat show biz like it were something they shouldn't be caught liking? I see them put on a tolerant smile, like they were simply indulging you, while making a big show of their focus remaining on the nation's problems.

I could grant that, sure. I do have friends who know nothing about show biz and are sincerely content with their state of ignorance. But there are types who make a big show of not being interested, yet always segue to: What's the tsismis?

And, mind, they **** their ears to hear.

Oh please, spare me.

Now comes a variation of that snobbery. This one I just picked up from an OP-ED columnist (not from the Inquirer) who's suggested that the thing to blame for Jose Pidal being taken up in the Senate is show biz! Say what? He says that when show biz people got into politics, they brought with them their culture of gossip, and thus the Jose Pidal stories, even with little substantiation, made their way in too.

Heavy.

Of course, the columnist has to be a government apologist. But I always thought even those types try for some measure of intelligence, just so they offend only those government has already offended. Now I see they don't mind expanding their base.

I've seen politics and I've seen show biz. And let me tell you, while I will not vote for anyone in show biz who has not served from bottom up, I dare say that show biz types come from a gentler, happier, lovelier society. They may be cantankerous on air, keep their enemies miserable at parties, and now and then embarrass the truly civilized.

But, hey, they don't do anything so murderous as Kuratong Baleleng and they certainly aren't responsible for this Jose Pidal.
:)

add ko na rin...

Sharon Cuneta and Aga Muhlach will be in SM Bicutan this Saturday for a mall tour in connection with the showing of their first movie together, "Kung Ako Na Lang Sana." It's the first time that Sharon has agreed to perform in a mall.

"Nabanggit kasi sa akin ni Aga how fulfilling it is. Ang ganda daw ng feeling that you are able to perform before an audience na siyang talagang nanonood ng pelikulang Pilipino. Who knows? This might not be the last time I'll do it," says Sharon.

IT seems that a Sharon Cuneta movie is always an event -- she has made three this year and the second, with Aga Muhlach, is set for showing this week with her third, Crying Ladies in the MMFF 2003. Her first, Walang Kapalit with Viva, starred her with Richard Gomez. That film marked the film debut of TV celebrities Paolo Bediones and Miriam Quiambao. Now with Star Cinema’s Kung Ako Na Lang Sana with Aga, it is the launching pad for TV host Christine Bersola to be in the movies. She plays Sharon’s best friend. And the film also revives the acting career of two “hibernating” stars. Mickey Ferriols was last seen three years ago in Cesar Montano’s War Freak and Jennifer Sevilla, now a UST masscom graduate and practicing fashion designer, was last seen in Gil Portes’ Saranggola in 1999. This Joey Javier Reyes film also features Shintaro Valdez and Dominic Ochoa -- Shintaro in a rare movie appearance this year, and Dominic being Aga’s choice to be in this film.

***
TRIVIA: Is Sharon Cuneta the highest paid actress of the country and Aga Muhlach her actor counterpart? No one is talking so no one has come up of some listings through the years either.
But news from London puts it that Bruce Willis is the actor top earner, having earned $73.9 million in 2000 while the Guinness World Records Book still lists Adam Sandler as the world’s highest paid actor based on his salary of $49.5 million in 2001.
Cameron Diaz is listed as the biggest earner in the 2004 Guinness book, based on her earning of $42.2 million in 2001.

Lapit na yung movie 2 days to go!

"I was duped. Kailangang ayusin lahat from plumbing to electricity.
"The air is cleaner and it’s good for my daughter. I’ve always been in love with Ayala Alabang, but we went farther. Frankie is so happy there, you hear birds chirping, may tutubi and my daughter saw a firefly for the first time. It’s refreshing and the security is good," patuloy ni Sharon.
In spite of Sharon and Aga’s status in real life — both contented and happily married — malakas ang kilig ng tambalan nila.
Aminado sina Shawie at Morning na nabuo ang isang magandang pagkakaibigan while they were working on this movie. They have only good words to describe one another.
We’re not gonna miss this picture. All because of some good memories we have — about friendship, and then love.
:)

It’s worth the long wait
STAR BYTES By Butch Francisco
The Philippine Star 09/25/2003

As a box office queen, Sharon Cuneta had the wonderful opportunity of working on the big screen with practically all the top leading men in local cinema: Fernando Poe, Jr. Christopher de Leon, Rudy Fernandez, Richard Gomez, Robin Padilla, Cesar Montano, Bong Revilla, etc. The only exceptions must be Dolphy and Aga Muhlach. With Aga Muhlach, it was really strange that they didn’t get to work together at once in the movies considering the fact that they are of the same generation and even work together in the same television station (ABS-CBN). Why, didn’t Aga start his film career in Viva in Bagets? And Sharon, as we all know, is the queen of Viva. When I joined Star Cinema’s creative committee way back in 1999, I remember that one of our tasks was to come up with a Sharon-Aga project. Unfortunately, until the group was dissolved, there was still no Sharon-Aga movie on the planning board. Yesterday, the first Sharon Cuneta-Aga Muhlach movie – Kung Ako na Lang Sana – finally opened in Metro Manila Theaters. And this I must tell you – it was worth the wait. In Kung Ako na Lang Sana, Sharon and Aga are part of a barkada (formed in college) that also count Christine Bersola Dominic Ochoa, Jennifer Sevilla, Shintaro Valdes and their respective partners as members. But the closest in the group are undeniably Sharon and Aga, who strangely enough are like two opposite poles. Aga is the rich, irresponsible kid who does not have the initiative and the drive to succeed in life. Very good-looking, he is never lacking in women – although even in romantic relationships, he is still a failure. In stark contrast, Sharon is driven and hardworking. With her business acumen, everything she touches turns into gold. In the affairs of the heart department, well, she had a serious relationship once with Reggie Curly, but this didn’t work out. Strong-willed and headstrong, she is the type of woman who scares off prospective suitors, whom she doesn’t entertain much anyway – maybe because deep in her heart, she loves Aga Muhlach. But is Aga also in love with her and would they eventually get together? The movie actually works around this premise. Although the story of Kung Ako na Lang Sana is quite simple, it has several layers. The Sharon Cuneta character, for one, could already be a movie by itself. Her story is like the female version of the Pio de Castro movie, Soltero (starring the late Jay Ilagan). Of course, Maricel Soriano already did a Soltera, but the Sharon Cuneta character is different from the one played by Ms. Soriano. The spinsterish type of character played by Sharon in Kung Ako na Lang Sana actually represents quite a large sector of our society: Successful women who are happy and content with their respective careers and yet scared of the fact that their biological clocks are fast ticking away. The character of Sharon in the film is actually well-loved. After all, she could be counted on for so many things – financial assistance, a shoulder to cry on, etc. And yet no one loves her – I mean, no man loves her in a romantic way so that she may at least have a spark of light in her life. Don’t we have a lot of people like that in our midst? So fulfilled and yet so empty deep inside. Aga also has his own story to tell. But his is more on family – about how they couldn’t openly express their love for one another. All the situations depicted in Kung Ako na Lang Sana are culled from real life and each and every viewer could easily identify with practically every scene and situation they see on the big screen. The dialogues – crisp to the last period – are very real either. It’s just unfortunate that most of these lines had been dubbed and dubbed too perfectly that some come out artificial. No one stammers nor stutters and this takes out the realistic flavor of the film somehow. What a waste of good dialogues. And yes, there is also this problem with photography – with some of the shots out of focus or misaligned. Fortunately these technical problems eventually take the backseat and are set aside because the movie is really engaging. To the moviegoer who just wants to relax, this is the film for you because here, everything you see on the big screen has been prettified and you see nice houses, clothes, pieces of furniture and everything about the good life. It’s a good film to see when you are unwinding. Of course, there are no deep societal concerns here, but at the same time you see yourself or somebody you know in one of the characters in the film. In the acting department, Sharon and Aga – award-winners both – deliver very inspired performances. On the part of Aga, he is at his best when he finally has a heart-to-heart talk his dying father. Even the supporting cast does very well – particularly Jennifer Sevilla and Christine Bersola who is a wonderful revelation here. Ms. Bersola manages to prove in the film that aside from being a TV anchor, she can also be a fine actress on the big screen. Mickey Ferriols, from her end, also delivers a very good performance as one of Aga’s many girlfriends (the most serious). With such lovely face (and so talented, too), Ms. Ferriols lights up the screen with her presence every time she is there. Of course, still the most engaging are the scenes between Sharon and Aga. With such marvelous chemistry between them, I cannot for the life of me understand why it took this long for the two of them to be cast together in a film. But better late than never. And this Jose Javier Reyes movie with Sharon and Aga finally in it together more than makes up for the long wait.

Ayon kay Eric John Salut, P10M ang 1st day gross ng pelikulang Kung Ako Na Lang Sana nina Sharon Cuneta at Aga Muhlach.

Sabi pa ni Eric John, ang Dekada ‘70 ang napili ng Film Academy of the Philippines bilang panlaban sa kategoryang ‘best foreign-language film’ ng 76th Oscars.

Sharon-Aga starrer
graded 'B' by CEB
Posted: 11:47 PM (Manila Time) | Sept. 26, 2003
By Nestor U. Torre
Inquirer News Service

STARTING this issue, we're running the summation of Cinema Evaluation Board members' comments on films found worthy of amusement tax rebates by the CEB (formerly known as the Film Ratings Board), the incentives arm of the Film Development Council of the Philippines, headed by Laurice Guillen-Feleo.

The CEB's chairperson is Zeneida Amador. After each screening of a Filipino film submitted for evaluation, she leads discussions on the movie's plus and minus points, then the members determine if the film deserves to be given an incentive for superior work.

If the answer is in the affirmative, it is then decided whether the film should be graded "B" (65 percent amusement tax rebate) or "A" (100 percent rebate).

The CEB urges viewers to patronize films graded "A" or "B," because their makers work harder to do better work than usual. It is hoped that the viewing public will support the efforts of our better filmmakers, so the day will soon come when more producers and directors are encouraged to make outstanding films, resulting in a win-win situation for the movie industry and viewers alike.

This week, the Filipino film to see is "Kung Ako na Lang Sana," starring Sharon Cuneta and Aga Muhlach, as this appreciative evaluation by the CEB will attest:

After a lengthy discussion, a clear majority of the members present found the Star Cinema film by Jose Javier Reyes worthy of incentives, and graded it "B," for these reasons:

On the plus side, the CEB members agreed that the film's emphases on character and personal relationships rather than plot was a welcome departure from standard filmmaking practice in the Philippines.

Also deemed praiseworthy were the movie's ensemble theme, good values, entertaining dialogue, "accessible but not condescending" treatment, lively and felt performances, generally good production values, and affecting depiction of a deep friendship that turns into romantic love.

Conversely, these debit points were cited: character depiction and development were uneven, some situations lacked believability, the vocal dubbing was flat, and the pacing of the movie's first half was too frenetic.

Despite these points, however, the CEB members felt that the movie's plus factors clearly shone through, making "Kung Ako na Lang Sana" one of the more estimable movies produced in 2003.

Sharon and Aga
Zenaida A. Amador

THE latest Sharon Cuneta and Aga Muhlach starrer, “Kung Ako Na Lang Sana’’ was graded “B’’ by the Cinema Evaluation Board.

This means that the production Company, Star Cinema, will get a 65 percent tax rebate for the film. The Cinema Evaluation Board is the flagship department of the Film Development Council of the Philippines which is an agency created by law to encourage the development of the Filipino Film Industry. The Cinema Evaluation Board (CEB) is the board which views films submitted to it in order to see if it is of a quality which merits government support. Films which the CEB deems worthy of support and encouragement are given “A’’ or “B” ratings which gets either a 100 percent or 65 percent tax rebates. The CEB is not to be confused with the MTRCB which has a different mandate altogether.

At any rate, I saw the movie and I enjoyed it. Principally because we rarely see Pinoy movies with emphasis on character and relationships rather than plot. It’s about time we made and saw more of this kind of movie. Of course there were minor flaws in the movie, like I hated some of the dubbing which had no sound perspective and did not go with the emotional context of the scenes. Joey Reyes directed the film with intelligence and sensitivity and Sharon and Aga were both lovable and engaging.

It is the hope of many that better quality films come out now that the Film Development Council of the Philippines and the CEB have started work in earnest. Since the start of work early this year, the CEB has already awarded rebates to 8 films.

'She is looking forward to doing yet another film after she has adjusted to her upcoming "role" as a housewife.'

Christine has no plan of turning her back on showbiz

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

CHRISTINE Bersola is proudest of her role as the best friend and busi- ness partner of Sharon Cuneta in "Kung Ako Na Lang Sana." She is getting good reviews for her performance in the movie.

"I am even more excited dahil I learned that the film made P10 million - yes, P10 million - when it opened last Wednesday," she says with pride. "Let's face it, it's good to be part of a winning endeavor."

She is looking forward to doing yet another film after she has adjusted to her upcoming "role" as a housewife. By now, everyone knows that Christine is getting married to fellow newscaster Julius Babao on Dec. 8.

Will Julius allow her to continue acting after their marriage?

"Kay Julius, anything that will make me happy, he will allow me to do," she replies.

Yet, according to Christine, she would not have done "Kung Ako Na Lang Sana" had Julius not approved of it. "Pinaka-importante pa rin na pumayag siya."

Christine admits that she has always been a fan of Sharon. "Walang pelikula 'yan na di ko pinanonood."

"In the case of Aga," she adds, "he has been my idol from way back, during his 'Bagets' days. Halos magka-edad kami (she's turning 34 on Oct. 30). Naalaala ko when I would watch the premiere of 'Bagets.' Halos mawalan ako ng boses shouting his name."

To date, she still keeps the scrapbook on Aga that she made during her teenage years. She had showed it to Aga and he wanted her to give it to him.

"I declined," said Christine. "Sabi ko sa kanya, it's something I don't want to part with."

When she becomes Mrs. Julius Babao, Christine said she might decide to give up her show "Cinema One Presents" on cable.

"I want to keep 'MUB' (Magandang Umaga, Bayan). It was while Julius and I were anchoring the show that our romance started," she shares.

Julius is now co-anchor of "TV Patrol."

Edu's crosses path with former college prof

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

DID you know that Edu Manzano was a student of Joey Javier Reyes at the De La Salle University? Then, Direk Joey considered Edu a sakit ng ulo. It was impossible for them to see eye-to-eye.

"Paano naman," says Direk Manny Castañeda, a fellow professor of Direk Joey, "he came to his classes always late.

"It was Edu's habit kasi to play basketball, then take a bath in the shower room before proceeding to the class of Direk Joey."

One day, Direk Joey called Edu aside and gave him a stern warning. He told Edu he will throw him out of the classroom should Edu come in late the next day.

"Naku, napamulagat kami ni Direk Joey the next day. When the bell rang, dumarating si Edu na basang-basa ang buhok at nakatapis lang ng tuwalya," Direk Manny relates, "I suppose he wasn't wearing any underwear then.

"Edu's stunt made the class erupt in laughter. And poor Direk Joey could not do anything. At least nga naman he didn't come in late for his class," he adds with a guffaw.

Who would ever think that Direk Joey and Edu's paths will cross again? Both are big favorites at ABS-CBN. Direk Joey is at the helm of several shows on ABS-CBN. He is also the director of the Sharon Cuneta-Aga Muhlach starrer, "Kung Ako Na Lang Sana," which is a certified box-office hit.

Edu has several shows on ABS-CBN: the morning program "Magandang Umaga, Bayan," the FRIDAY variety show "ASAP Mania" and the top Tuesday sitcom "OK, Fine! Whatever."

Sharon-Aga movie nets P10M on 1st day

Star Cinema’s “feel light” comedy-romance Kung Ako Na
Lang Sana, grossed some P10 million when it opened
Wednesday (Sept. 24) in several Metro Manila theatres.
The movie, directed by Joey Javier Reyes from his own
script, is the first team-up of Sharon Cuneta and Aga
Muhlach who play friends-turned-lovers.
Inspired by Bituin Escalante’s winning song (of the
same title) in the ABS-CBN-sponsored songfest Hiig
Handog, Kung Ako Na Lang sana clicks with moviegoers
because of its wit and humor and light-hearted
romantic approach that pokes fun even at Sharon’s
healthiness.
The movie also stars, among others, Christine Bersola,
Mickey Ferriols and Dominic Ochoa.

Tita Ethel Ramos was happy to announce that the movie of Sharon Cuneta and Aga Muhlach has made Star Cinema happy as it made quite a mark in the box-office when it opened.
She called us last Friday to say that “Kung Ako Na Lang Sana” earned R10 million on the first day. We were thinking that it’s quite an achievement considering the hottest news around showbiz these days, the Joey Marquez-Kris Aquino feud, has been hogging the consciousness of everyone.
Even led us into thinking that the way the public watched out for the exclusive one-on-one interview of Kris Aquino on ABS-CBN by Korina Sanchez on the day of the opening of Sharon and Aga’s movie could affect its viewership.
But good thing, Tita Ethel told us it turned out well.
This movie, directed by Joey Javier Reyes from his own script, is the first team-up of the two big stars.

As part of its 50th anniversary, ABS-CBN brings together two of the countrys most sought-after actors: Sharon Cuneta and Aga Muhlach to star in one of its anniversary offering. The movie is entitled "Kung Ako na Lang Sana."

The Sharon-Aga tandem is now highly touted as "The Tandem to Beat" for the year 2003. For the two, who are also top commercial endorsers, have combined their respective successes and achievements in the industry by teaming up in the movie which is set for release this month.

And to coincide with the much-awaited release of "Kung Ako na Lang Sana," the megastar has recorded and released her rendition of the movie theme of the same title, in the movies soundtrack.

"Kung Ako na Lang Sana," the grand prize winner in the ABS-CBN 2002 Himig Handog Love Song Competition, is a composition by Soc Villanueva and specially arranged by Marvin Querido for the movie and soundtrack version. The song is now currently enjoying favorable airplay in favorite FM stations: I-FM 93.9, Yes FM 101.1, WRR 101.9, Love Radio 90.7, Star 102.7, and Kool 106. The music video is also enjoying extreme support in MYX Premieres.

Included in the "Kung Ako na Lang Sana" the soundtrack, are well-loved songs such as "Through the Years," a Kenny Rogers original interpreted by Piolo Pascual; "Ikaw Lang Pala," also sung by Sharon Cuneta; a revival of Celine Dions "Its All Coming Back to Me Now," sung by Full Circle (Michelle Ayalde, Maoui David, Gliza de Castro and Karel Marquez); Odette Quesadas "Ayoko Na Sana" as performed by Michelle Ayalde; "Ikaw Pa Rin" by the Freshmen; "Itanong Mo sa Puso Ko," by Carol Banawa; "Habang Buhay," by Stagecrew; and "Bakit Hindi Ako" by Jamie Rivera.

The Original Movie Soundtrack is now available on CDs and cassettes in all major record stores, only from Startraxx.

Sharon-Aga movie, pinuri ng CBCP!
(Irish Ann Cruz)

I agree to most of your comments and feedbacks on this Kris-Joey saga.

1. Like her uncle (Sen. Butch Aquino) said ‘yung pagtutok probably is a result of something she might have done na naubos na ang pasensya ng lalaki. She said it herself, she grabbed the guy’s genitals and started a fire. Out of nerbiyos or inis (instinct) of her actions kaya siguro naisip ni Joey na it’s the only way to stop her from doing further stupidity.

Gaya ni Joey, she dared to set the place on fire knowing her son is on the other side of the room. Yes, nakapag-isip-isip siya and put off the fire. Di ba siya na rin ang nagsabi, nakapag-isip- isip din si Joey and released the magazine of the gun?

2. I believe 100% that Kris is honest, she might be tactless but she’s not a liar.

3. Sabi nga ni Mr. Balbastro sa column niya a relationship that’s wrong from the start (without the consent or approval of the parent even) is bound to be wrong to the end.

4. I believe when you said na lumabas talaga ang pagka- showbiz ni Kris. She said it herself na tinawagan at sinabi niya sa kanyang manager na nagkatutukan ng baril which Joey I think just defended kinabukasan and dinenay nga. So in effect talagang sa kampo ni Kris nagsimula ang pag-leak ng issue na ‘to?

Does she expect this big a news to stay within themselves lang?

5. We all know naman na in her show Morning Girls she always says na they will do anything for a rating.

6. I refuse to say that Kris Aquino is a model for the kababaihans. Bravery, yes. We still have to see if after this she will turn her life around then we can say she is a picture of a survivor.

I’m glad kung ang sabihin nilang model sa kababaihan ay sina Lea Salonga, Sharon Cuneta, who after a failed marriage, married not only a single guy but a respectable guy, a good husband and father at that.

I can even say KC can be a model for teenage kids. She has the education, the class and the right upbringing all thanks to Sharon too.

Kris Aquino can’t be a model or icon as they put it for all the women simply because the cause of all this brouhaha is the effect of all her wrong doings.

A woman who has a questionable morality I think can’t be branded as an icon for women? Having a relationship with a married man, even saying that napapabayaan niya ang kanyang anak because of Joey?

I think that’s crap! It’s her life and siguro naman if she said she has time to bond with Joey’s kids bakit wala siyang time sa sariling anak?

And...she even airs, kulang na lang i-advertise her loneliness because she has no boyfriend. (May karugtong bukas)

Ang galing niya no?

While we’re at it... Funfare asked Ricky Reyes (of the Gandang Ricky Reyes promo for his chain of beauty parlors) his choices as the Top 8 All-Time Lovely Faces. Here’s the "honor roll" (at random now):

•Gloria Romero – "She knows how to flirt with the camera"

•Donna Villa – "Sultry eyes, classic nose"

•Gretchen Barretto – "She’s like a perfect canvas; puwedeng i-reinvent ang face in many ways"

•Ruffa Gutierrez – "Malandi ang beauty; reminds you of romantic nights"

•Dawn Zulueta – "Simply beautiful"

•Sharon Cuneta – "Iba ang beauty; tamang-tama lang"

•Tanya Garcia – "Very wholesome"

•Amalia Fuentes – "Every feature of her face blends beautifully with the rest"

There. Ricky Reyes’ choices.

Sharon, ipinagbibili ang luha!
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

All these years, palaging may bagong ipinapakita si Sharon Cuneta.

It’s a truly different role for Sharon. Imagine the megastar portraying a hustler, gambler, losing custody of her son when she went to jail. But she tries to be a good mother, accepting all sorts of odd jobs to support the boy, including being a professional mourner, along with her good friends played by Angel and Hilda.

Hilda is a former B-movie starlet dreaming of a comeback. She accepts the job to probe she can still act. Angel considers the job an act of charity to atone for her sin, going to bed with her friend’s husband.

Ricky is Sharon’s husband; Raymond is Angel’s lover; and Eric is the Chinese who hired the three “Crying Ladies.”

Tony Gloria describes Crying Ladies as a comedy which warms the heart, shedding light in the struggles and little dreams of ordinary people living in the back streets of Chinatown. It is, adds a story of hope and triumph. It’ll move you to laughter… and tears every now and then.

Dalawang beses na nanalo si Mark sa CCP Festival of Independent Cinema and has exhibited his short films in Berlin, Brussels, and Hong Kong. He directs TV commercials.

Crying Ladies will be promoted and marketed in the US and international filmfets by Vincent ‘Ting’ Nebrida, who wrote the script of American Adobo.

Sweet Michael Buble Posted 10-1-2003 18:17

I just watched the (complete) duet they did (Just the Way You Look Tonight) over at MYX Channel (which was also shown at Sharon) & how they blended!Ang cute ni Micheal, grabe...Here's what he's got to say about Sharon: "Oh, I was amazed, singing with Sharon. I'm a big fan & she`s a wonderful, warm, classy lady & she was so sweet with me & she's very, very beautiful & at first I was a little bit nervous but she put me at ease & was so, so warm with me and kind & I just think that it's amazing you know, how talented she is, I mean she's a consummate entertainer & I think that's what all of us in this business strive to be. Ah she's good at everything she does, great at everything she does & what a huge privilege it was for me to be able to work with her & to sing with her & to get to give her a kiss on the cheek & I just can't wait to do it again." :)

'It will not win awards but it's a well-made, endearing romance about friends who go on a platonic relationship for years then finally fall in love with each other.'

Love after several sights
Mario Bautista

KUNG AKO NA LANG SANA

The first film together of Sharon Cuneta and Aga Muhlach turns out to be one of the best films we've seen so far this year in local cinema. It will not win awards but it's a well-made, endearing romance about friends who go on a platonic relationship for years then finally fall in love with each other. Films that belong to this genre include "When Harry Met Sally" with Billy Crystal and Meg Ryan and "Brown Sugar" withTaye Diggs and Sanaa Latham.

Actually, this film is difficult to do because there are no melodramatic turns in the plot but is more character-driven. Emmie (Sharon) and Vince (Aga), who their barkada fondly call Enteng, belong to the same circle of friends since college. Their female friends are Vicky (Christine Bersola), who loves taking pictures each time they have a gathering; Janet (Jennifer Sevilla), an unwed mom who has the habit of making a mess of her life; and Melvi (Banaue Miclat), the first one to get married.

The guys are Jaime (Dominic Ochoa), who got married and migrated to the U.S., and Christian (Shintaro Valdez), who was pissed when Vince bedded his 17-year old niece.

Sharon's father died early on and she became her family's breadwinner, even sending her nephews to school. She is a no-nonsense, young woman with good business acumen and succeeds in an export business with Vicky helping her.

Vince is a free-wheeling kind of guy who cannot stick to a job. He is at odds with his dad (Butz Aquino), who's estranged from his mom (Lollie Mara) and has found a younger wife (Chat Silayan).

In this kind of story, it's easy to predict that Emmie and Vince will eventually end up with each other. The problem is how writer-director Joey Reyes will make it interesting for us to follow their long-winding love story. It helps that we also get involved in the lives of their friends who get married one by one and have kids of their own.

Emmie's nephews grow up, graduate from college and also have their own careers. Vince goes abroad twice but his restlessness remains. He finds a new girlfriend in Elaine (Mickey Ferriols), who subsequently realizes that he and Emmie are the one really meant for each other.

Another plus is that Sharon and Aga do have good chemistry on screen. Aga and the script even make fun of Sharon's being slightly overweight and she stresses that she feels comfortable about how she looks.

Aga drips with effortless charm as the aimless, rakish Vince who says: "Ang daming temtasyon sa mundo. Ang hirap. Sumpa na yata ang kaguwapuhan ko." This is not very far from his role in another Joey Reyes film, "Bakit Labis Kitang Mahal."

Emmie is supposed to be spunky, but Sharon shows her vulnerable side when she tells him: "Anakan mo kaya ako para maging maganda ang anak ko. Huwag lang magmamana sa ugali mo. Walang malice, ha?"

To which Aga retorts: "Walang malice. Puede ba 'yon? Ako pa!" Sharon is at her best in scenes where she has no lines at all but just shows what she feels through her face and eyes, like that scene when she meets again her first boyfriend (Reggie Curley) who had previously dumped her.

The fine ensemble cast gives excellent support, with Jennifer Sevilla standing out in her role as a big burden to her friends. In any barkada, you really have a friend like that who borrows money from you and dupes you.

There maybe tiffs and misunderstandings, but there is also healing. The scene where Sharon and Jennifer meet again after several years is so touching, with them just forgetting about the past and greeting each other with "Hoy." Christine Bersola makes a charming acting debut as the supportive Vicky and it's nice to see Mickey Ferriols again looking so lovely on screen and doing so well in her role as Elaine.

You know it's mostly fluff but Joey succeeds in making it a heartwarming story about friendship that lasts through the years and about love - not at first, but - after several sights.

SHARON Cuneta, Hilda Koronel and Angel Aquino all play off-beat roles in the Unitel Productions' Metro-Manila Film Festival entry, "Crying Ladies," the directorial debut of Mark Meily who also wrote the script that won in the Palanca Awards.

Sharon plays Stella, a thirty-ish woman imprisoned for estafa. Her husband, Ricky Davao, has disowned her and got custody of their son, played by child actor Julio Pacheco. Ricky will now live in Cagayan de Oro and he is taking the boy with him. Before they leave, he gives Sharon the chance to spend some time with their son.

"It's the first time I am playing this kind of role that is so far from the sweet and cute roles I used to do," says Sharon. "I know I am taking a risk because my fans might not like it but the role is something really challenging so I hope they will appreciate my efforts in trying to grow as an actress."

Hilda plays Rhoda, a former starlet who appeared in some movies in the 70's. She now wants her daughter, Jemalene Estrada, to also join showbiz and takes her to all casting auditions. Meanwhile, Angel plays Choleng, a very religious church worker who made the mistake of falling for the husband of her best friend, Raymond Bagatsing.

It is Eric Quizon, a Chinese businessman, who gets them to be official mourners in the wake of his dead father, a man he hates so much but who wants a traditional Chinese wake with crying ladies so he hires Sharon, Hilda and Angel. The film shows how their interaction with each other will bring positive changes to their lives, including to that of Eric, who learns to forgive his late dad.

"Crying Ladies" will be one of the four drama entries that will vie for awards in the December filmfest. The others are "Homecoming" by Gil Portes, "Filipinas" by perennial winner Joel Lamangan, and "Mano Po 2" by Erik Matti. The other entries are mostly action-fantasies like "Kapten Barbell," "Gagamboy," "Funtastik Man" and one horror flick, "Malikmata."

During the taping, Aga treated his co-stars, producers Cynthia Jordan and Joanna Santos, to a blowout of mostly seafood on the set.

Explained Danni Caparas, who is at the helm of "OK Fine Whatever," a consistent top-rating sitcom for several months now: "Nakantiyawan namin si Morning (his pet name for Aga), dahil rumarampa nga sa takilya ang kanyang movie with Sharon (Cuneta), 'Kung Ako Na Lang Sana.' Bumigay naman."

Direk Danni was also at the helm of Aga's previous sitcom, "Okidokidoc,"

Goma at Bayani, magbabati o magsasagupa sa Sharon?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

They had one of the most talked-about feuds of 2003, and for the longest time, it seemed that Richard Gomez and Bayani Agbayani would never get over the hurt feelings that grew out of their basketball-court aggravation.

So will sparks fly this Sunday, October 5, on the continuation of Sharon’s fifth anniversary spectacular? Both Richard and Bayani have tied for one of Sharon’s coveted Mega High Five Awards as Favorite Actor/Guest, but will they make peace or war when their paths cross anew?

Goma and Bayani are just two of the many intriguing celebrity guest appearances lined up for the conclusion of Sharon’s special anniversary episode, airing at 5:30 p.m. Among those scheduled for appearances: Divine Diva Zsa Zsa Padilla, who tops by to perform for her Mega Best Friend. Former MTRCB chief Armida Siguion-Reyna, who returns (temporarily) to her Aawitan Kita roots in a novelty song and dance number with, of all people, Troy Montero. And speaking of novelty song and dance numbers, a recent appearance by Asia’s Nightingale Lani Misalucha had her performing a tiny excerpt of the rock hit “Laklak” as a rock/classical ballad. This Sunday, Lani finally performs the song – in full. Later, Aiza Seguerra matches talents with fellow acoustic talents Nyoy Volante, Jimmy Bondoc and Paolo Santos, while a Mega medley pits Sharon with the Company and Richard Gomez.

Tune in for all the award-worthy performances, as well as the rest of the Mega High Five awards, when Sharon concludes its two-part anniversary special on Sunday, October 5, at 5:30 pm.

From platonic to
romantic love
Posted: 11:32 PM (Manila Time) | Oct. 04, 2003
Inquirer News Service

BOTH Sharon Cuneta and Aga Muhlach have been film stars since their early teens, but the strange thing is, they've never acted in a movie together until Star Cinema's current release, "Kung Ako Na Lang Sana."

The situation is made even stranger by the fact that the two stars act in pretty much the same type of film, the romantic comedy.

Well, their first movie together makes up for the long wait. Joey Reyes' film is interesting because, unlike most local movies, it stresses not the plot but the development of its characters and their relationships.

In the movie, Sharon and Aga belong to a barkada of upwardly mobile young professionals. As they mature, some members of their group get married and have children, but Aga and Sharon remain single, for different reasons.

In Aga's case, he fears responsibility and commitment, so he flits from one woman to the next, getting his kicks but dancing away when his girlfriend du jour mentions marriage.

Sharon's problem is her being a control freak, thus psychologically emasculating her beaus. The fact that she has to be a workaholic to support her relatives doesn't help, either.

So, the time comes when both Sharon and Aga are pushing 40, and they have to face up to the fact that their long-running relationship has more than just friendship going for it. After years of pussyfooting around, love finally enters the picture-just in the nick of time!

It's a heartwarming tale that's enlivened by perky dialogue, and the felt performances of other members of the cast, especially Mickey Ferriols, Jennifer Sevilla and Christine Bersola.

On the debit side, some shots are out of focus, the movie's pacing is occasionally too frenetic to make for comfortable viewing, some situations lack believability, and a number of the pa-cute romantic scenes are too young and giddy for the film's maturing stars.

To its credit, the movie still makes for effective, affecting entertainment, despite these minus points. Its success augurs well for its two leads' careers, and for those of some of its supporting players as well.

In particular, it's Ferriols who benefits most from this production, with her comeback performance as Aga's "next to the last" girlfriend making a vivid impact on viewers. We trust that, in her next movie, she will move up to the level of lead player, where she more properly belongs.

Joys of singlehood
Date: 9/26/2003 10:30:38 AM
Source: Business World
By: Teresa Defensor

Is singlehood synonymous to loneliness? Do you really have to be married with kids in order to experience happiness? Despite all the current theories on female empowerment, why do some women still feel incomplete whenever they go home to an empty bed? Doesn't an empty bed mean more space to roll over, not to mention longer cable TV viewing hours?

Kung Ako Na Lang Sana, the new movie written and directed by Jose Javier Reyes, lightly tackles this issue but manages to give a very strong message for women. Sure, women have definitely come a long way, but beneath the strong facade of success and determination is a timid princess waiting to be loved by a man.

Kung Ako Na Lang Sana tells the story of best friends Emmy (Sharon Cuneta) and Vincent (Aga Muhlach). Since reaching dating age, the two have embarked on a conscious search for the perfect lifetime partner. In fact, they made a pact that if they remain unattached by the time they hit 40, they would just end up marrying each other. The idea is not original of course, we all know that such was the driving force behind Julia Robert's determination in the film My Best Friend's Wedding.

Anyway, as Emmy and Vincent go through the up's down's of their careers, they meet potential mates along the way but somehow manage to hang on to each other during the most trying times. Their bond is so strong, that Vincent is willing to drop everything , including his gorgeous girlfriend (Mickey Ferriols), whenever Emmy needs a shoulder to cry on.

Everyone (including Vincent's girlfriend) can tell that there is something more than a brother-sister bond between them. Unfortunately, both Emmy and Vincent are too proud to admit the obvious.

The movie explores how a meaningful friendship can actually lead to a promising partnership. The movie ends when they fall in love, and so we don't really know whether the relationship worked or not.

But more than the love aspect, the movie speaks of the power of friendship. How different people from different backgrounds with different beliefs and principles can actually develop a strong bond and surpass all kinds of challenges, including those that involve serious money matters.

Indeed, lessons on friendship run throughout the film: accept our friends for what they are; allow them to fight their own battles, even if we are tempted to intervene.

The movie speaks of female angst while searching for the right partner. But at this day and age, someone like Emmy, someone that intelligent should be smart enough to realize that "happiness" is a personal choice. And that having a husband does not necessarily translate to a lifetime of peace and happiness.

Nevertheless the movie is worth watching if only for the witty dialogue, and, yes, the charms of Aga Muhlach. And there is no question about Ms. Cuneta ability. But while both actors played their roles very well, Ms. Cuneta's bulk affects the otherwise picture perfect scenes. A pity since with the right clothes and proper camera angles, such physical limitations on screen can easily be addressed.

If you are single and in search of a partner, you might feel depressed after the watching this movie. Otherwise, it's pretty light, so expect a lot of laughter a long the way.

:)

just an excerpts...

"My First Romance" comes on the heels of the box-office hit and critically acclaimed movie of Sharon Cuneta and Aga Muhlach, "Kung Ako Na Lang Sana." "Kung Ako Na Lang Sana's" success is the reason everyone from Star Cinema, especially its top guns, are sporting happy faces.

"We are sure 'My First Romance' will also make it," said Star Cinema managing director Malou Santos. "The film has all the ingredients of a box-office winner. We hope that everyone who watches the movie falls in love kung wala silang pag-ibig sa kasalukuyan."
