Intel inside? It's no longer a sure thing (http://www.zdnet.com/eweek/stories/general/0,11011,2618801,00.html)
Intel's stranglehold on mobile and desktop PC vendors may have just been loosened. Recently, I learned that Sony, which previously used only Intel chips, will be using Transmeta's Crusoe processor and chips from Advanced Micro Devices as well as Intel's in its new Vaio notebooks later this year. For consumers, this could mean lower prices and much more diverse competition in the mobile PC market. The likes of Sony, Compaq, IBM and Gateway using Transmeta, AMD and Intel chip sets in their Internet appliances and computers will give users choice and flexibility in different environments and price levels.
