been to venice about 10 years ago. can't vividly remember the place although i remember that all we did was walk and walk. we were afraid to ride the gondolas that's why we just walked around the place no matter how far. the place is very nice although the smell is not that good.

I've never been to Prague but Venice is nice. If you wanna impress your better half, this is the place to go. Very romantic. The culture, arts, architecture, food, music, etc. They're all there.
Gondolas are nice but very expensive. Some of those gondola guys can sing pretty good, if you ask them too.
... and, if you still have time, drive or take the bus to Lignano (3 hrs. up North close to the border of Austria). Here, you'll find beach resorts lined up on the white sand beach. Great beaches right on the Adriatic Sea. There are lots of campsites on the beach, if you don't want to check into the hotels/resorts. Oh! Did I mention that topless is mandatory in European beaches? As they say in Deutsche, "Oben Ohne!" :)
If you still have time, go up to Vienna. It's 5-6 hrs from Lignano. This is the heart of Europe. One of the 3 best cities in the world. Everything is nice.
If you still have time... go to Prague! Hehe. Travel is neverending in Europe. There's Bratislava, Budapest, etc. I should stop now!
Have fun!

Never been to Prague... But I have been to Venice. I was there 2 years ago...
It was really nice. The gondola ride was expensive, but I think it was worth it. Especially since the gondola boy kept pointing out historical places, like Don Juan De Marco's house. And so on...
If you're going there, go to the Rialto. It's this big bridge over the grand canal. They sell all sort of things there. Also, go to the market. I loved it. Kahit puro fruits and veggies lang. I liked it. Everything seemed so fresh and nice.
Also, go to Piazza di San Marco.
Mejo expensive ang prices dito, so if you don't want to spend all your money, consider the following tips:
1.) For meals, don't eat at sit down restaurants. Just get a nice sandwich at a stand.
2.) When you're having coffee, don't sit down sa tables. Kasi doble yung bayad ng kape pag umupo ka sa table. Pero pag nakatayo ka lang sa may bar, cheap lang yung bayad.
3.) If you're coming from Rome, take the night train to Venice. Get a sleeper. So you can stretch. When you wake up in the morning, you're in Venice na. Before you sight-see in Venice, book the last trip back to Rome. Super mahal kasi nung hotels and inns eh.
4.) Oh yeah, gondolas are expensive. So just get one gondola ride for sight seeing. But to get around, if you don't wanna walk, you can buy a ride all you want busboat ticket. They have kasi boats there na "bus" nila. Parang waterbus. Cute nga eh. Cheap pa.
But then again, if you're going to Venice to splurge and really really relax, check into a hotel by the Grand Canal, and just enjoy. =)

Prague is an old city with lots of beautiful buildings;if you're an architecture student you'll be so awed that you'll just walk around with your mouth hanging open. The Slavs are also very good-looking people. The music they listen to is very mod- rock, trance, club, etc. Feel mo talaga that you're in Eastern Europe. If you find yourself in that area, do be sure and visit na rin Budapest in Hungary.
Don't expect to shop much though. Just some of their local handicrafts - embroidered stuff, crystal, etc.,and souvenirs.

wow pareho pa tayo ng dream destinations :D
Prague has always fascinated me since it's like almost always the setting for spy stories which I so dig :D
Venice naman, dba may problem sila dun about the city submerging in water? Dun ba yun? Kasi I remember thinking "oh no, i haven't been to that place yet" when I saw it on tv.

to be honest, i couldn't understand how venice got its reputation as a romantic city. i agree na over-rated yung gondolas. i mean, how would you feel romantic when the canals smells like imburnal. sobrang na-turn off ako sa smell. once in a while, you'll encounter garbade floating along the canals. pero in fairness, venice has some of the most interesting architectures in europe.

i haven't been to prague, but venice was quaint and really nice. as in "italy" talaga. but i heard that the canals reek during the summer.
but, paris is still the most romantic city for me.

i was able to go to Venice two years ago. My Europe trip was given to me as a graduation gift. We were only in Venice for one day, but it was really sulit. There's no point staying there for more than one day since you can't buy anything, I mean, weren't really that enthusiastic in spending our money there.
Just the mere experience of setting foot in Venice is worth more than money. Actually at first I was kinda turned off sa Venice since sa Pier pa lang I can smell the salty stench of the sea. (most likely you haven't thought of that downside when you look at pics of Venice). But once you are in Venice na, who cares about the stench?
We took their public transport (a cross between a ferry and a bus)) while touring the main canal of Venice (like any other practical tourist). Gondolas are just waaaay too expensive. Our last stop was the Piazza San Marco, Venice's main square. It was spring time so as expected it was full of people. We weren't able to get inside the cathedral since the queu was really long. So we opted to stroll along the square and it's side streets. Sobrang jaw dropping lang talaga.
The only sourvenir I got from Venice was buying a "gelatto," they Italian ice cream (the Venetian masks were just too expensive for my budget). When you go to Italy you should really try their gellato since it's homemade, very creamy and sweet. Iba yung lasa, can't really explain it. While my friends opted to go to Mcdonald's hehehe

i've been to Venice 2 yrs. ago. it's one of the nicest place to visit in Italy. i'd say 1 day is enough there. it's one of the most romantic place that couples would go. riding the gondola with an opera singer singing at the background...sooo romantic!! :D don't mind the smelly canals, one can stand the smells... ;) as for the prices, er...my mom bought leather bags there, it wasn;t expensive nor cheap. i'd say if u fancy anything, buy it! as long as the price isn't exaggerated coz u'll never gonna go back and if u did, it'll take time.

Well let's just say Northern part of Italy is the most expensive place in the entire country, since it's the industrial part. There was even an issue before that Northern Italy wanted to break away. The further down south you go, the cheaper it is. We did not have time to go window shopping so we really didn't get to see if there are cheap stuff there.

recently been to venice 2 wks ago. hindi naman mabaho yung tubig ah.Makakasave ka sa gondola ride kung makikishare ka with 5 other people. As our guide told us, there is no city on earth like Venice. There are no cars, and its water all around. Siguro ito yung selling point ng Venice. It can be very romantic late at night pag wala nang mga tao and the quaint buildings are illuminated. Like Paris, it has lost its magic dahil sobrang daming tao, talo pa ang Quiapo. Just this summer, with the heatwave and all, parang Manila lang ang dating sakin ng Paris and Venice, But when you stroll thru the small streets and cross the bridges HHWW with your lover late at night when everybody has left the streets, that's when the romance begins.
Prague--everybody tells me to visit Prague and they say this is the Paris of Eastern Europe. Hopefully, I can visit it one of these days, along with Moscow, Hungary and Scandinavia.
Ciao.

i'd have to disagree on the 1 day stay. if you have the time and money, spend at least 5 days or more there. you won't regret it and you won't have to splurge if you know where to stay and where to eat. venice is such a culturally rich destination that you have to spend some time there in order to really get to know it.
