What watch brand would you recommend for daily wear (office, sports, gimmicks) and which is of good quality (read: not high-maintenance)? What watch brand do you own which you are most satisfied with? I'm thinking of buying a watch kasi and I want to make an informed decision. Siyempre, medyo mahal din yun.

you can never go wrong with swatch.
what do you mean by high maintenance? are they the ones that uses batteries? or has leather straps? you can have swatch irony (automatic) which is nice.
another nice brand i use on a daily basis is nike.

you have to set a budget first, it's hard to say kasi. i'd easily recommend patek philippe :D
but i don't have that either :p
but honestly, some of the seiko kinetic models look nice. (those with metal bracelets) they look casual enough for everyday use yet dressy enough to go out with. basta no gold links, it attracts snatchers kasi. and the mechanism lets doesn't need batteries, and power lasts for seven days without being worn.

the watch i use most of the time is yun fossil ko..
i've got lotsa watches pero hindi ako maingat..
ang dame na ngang gasgas eh..
pero maganda talaga yun fossil..
di siya ganun kamahal..
almost $200 yun bile ng dad ko pero it's worth it naman..

Watches...Lately I'm obsessed with them. Would you believe I have to wear a different watch each day. Yes I'm being OC about it.
For daily wear I would suggest the following:
Casio - http://www.casio.com
Swatch - http://www.swatch.com
Guess - http://www.guess.com
They have a very good selection of watches, are low maintenance, they don't cost as much and they are built to last.
If you can afford it, go for Omega. (hehehehe biased ako)

ive had my sporty tag heuer watch (silver bracelet, yellow glow-in the-dark dial, black bezel) for years now, and it's still in great shape. it's waterproof, so no need to worry about it accidentally getting wet when you wash your hands, etc. the crystal is also practically scratch proof, and the bracelet, really sturdy. it's practically maintenance-free (except ofcourse for battery changes every couple of years). and, i wear this with almost anything (wag lang masyadong "formal").

For casual wear, I'd recommend the Tag Heuer range. They're pricey but they last (I've had my latest one for almost 3 years now and it's been through hell in that time). For an office watch, I like Gucci - not prohibitively expensive and have sleek designs.

Oris. There's a lot of them at Mega Mall...Go for the Oris Moonphase on leather strap! It's a complicated watch yet very affordable: just about P30T.
But if you've got more in your budget, a Tudor Hydronaut would be nice. It's automatic, waterproof to 300M, stainless steel and a sister company of Rolex. What else would you want? :D It's about P60T. (Of course, an Omega Seamaster would be far better.)
Technomarine...there's lots of models to choose from, from as low as P10T! But personally, I won't buy this...it's just like a cheapo plastic watch with a Japanese motor inside...:D
Or how's about a Suunto? X-Lander or the Yachtsman. They look so cool because of its size and it's extremely complicated. Cost about P15 up...
Personally, I own 2 Rolex, an Omega Speedmaster and a Bulgari Aluminum...Among these, my personal favorite is the Rolex Explorer...perfect for all occassions...the down side though to owning a number of automatic watches is keeping all of them moving...otherwise, the oil inside gets thicker and the motor gets stuck and you end up spending for costly overhaul...

para sa akin ang tunay na relos dapat automatic.
how much ba budget mo?
i think ok ang tissot.

merong nasa around 15K na automatic at the same
time scratch resistant. pang babae nila maliit lang pero
automatic na yun. di ba kase kadalasan sa mga watch pag
automatic malaki?

Everyday use, definitely Kinetic. You wont need to worry changing batteries coz it charges as you move. Buy the silicon strap model (comes in 3 sizes and water resistant to 5 bar). I've had mine for 5 years and it withstood a whole heapful of battering and its still in very good condition.

I spoke to a watchmaker/watch retailer with 30+ years experience in the industry and he told me that Tag Heur's internal parts aren't any better than the internal parts of some affordable watches out in the market. He even mentioned that Seiko's internal parts are as good, if not, better than a lot of Tag models.
He also said that he cannot justify paying such an amount for a Tag when its parts and mechanic structure is not as good as similar priced watches.
Has anyone heard of a similar claim?

Sa lahat ng nagamit kong relo, pinaka-satisfied ako sa Seiko SKP131 (http://www.righttime.com/seiko/premier/skp131.htm). Medyo may kamahalan lang...... pero zero-maintenance at reliable sya. Battery lasts for more than 5 years. Another good watch that I've owned is one of Emporio Armani brand. Cheaper sya as compared to the Seiko model that I mentioned pero besides being maintenance-free and reliable, comfortable den sya. I haven't changed my battery since nung binili ko sya almost 3 years ago.

i'm a casio girl. parang laos na brand no, been there forever, but check out their stock, v updated designs. plus, virtually maintenance-free. haven't gone for a battery change in almost two years and mine is still ticking.
sale ngayon ang GMS (baby g in metal), up to 50% off. pinag-iisipan ko nga eh.
hubby also got a baby g years ago and it still works. kahit balibagin, ok pa.

RLboy, you could try going to Carriedo (the place that was closed to vehicles). There's 3 shops there that are definitely competitive in pricing compared to the major malls.
As for the brand, it's up to you. Yo could try SEIKO, GIRARD P(not sure of the spelling of the second word, eh), GUCCI, etc.
If you need watch batteries, Carriedo rin. There's this small watch repair shop beside Metrobank near the corner of Rizal Ave. and 'Raon' (quotation marks dahil yun ang tawag sa street although that isn't the name). I can assure you that their prices are WAY BELOW the mall's.

SIMONESEZ, I didn't buy my T Touch here in the Phils. but MR PATHETIC is correct---it costs around Php30k+. I saw one at SM Megamall, in one of the shops there (I forgot which one) and the tag says Php36k. You also could try going to Glorietta.
RLBOY, I'm pretty sure the watches sold in those three stores are not fakes. I just don't know the exact names. The three shops are not far apart from each other and they are all in a row. One is at the corner beside Uniwide sales. The other is also at the corner of the street next to Fairmart. The third is just between the two shops.
I was interested in a CITIZEN DIVER'S (medium-size and stainless body and strap) about a year ago and the tag is, as I said, much lower than SM, etc.
The great thing is, you just say to the staff: "What's your LAST PRICE for this?" , you'll usually get a quotation that is 15-20% off the tag.

Seiko Kinetic is a good watch

Depends on your type.
Pag metal - Tag Heuer - can go both ways - formal / informal
Pag leather / plastic straps - Technomarine. When you buy kasi, it comes with a leather and a plastic strap. You can change from sporty to smart casual in an instant.
Both are very durable. Long-lasting. Tried and tested yan.

no no no... hehehe. you should take a good look at it. its a nice watch. you just have to check the bracelet. kase baka naman putulin talaga yung mga ganung bracelet ng relo. prior to that kase, my watch did not have a steel bracelet so i cant compare. feeling ko kase nasa design nung bracelet. all stainless din yung ORIS ko pero it was a long time ago. around 6 years ago. the model is not available anymore... maybe it's better na now. basta malalaman mo naman siguro kapag madali masira yung bracelet... hehe. ako kase, never nako bumili/bibili ng watch na ganung design yung bracelet.

I didn't realize that there is such a watch of that brand named BOLEX since BOLEX is a named of a CAMERA & its accessories.
I have read this articles:
What has developed is what we in the jewelry industry call the gray market. This is the market in which unethical jewelers can obtain watches by highly questionable methods to sell in their stores and make themselves look ethical.
Most of these gray market watches are either fakes, or else they are made from spare parts in some Far East country and made to look like the genuine article. And absolutely DO NOT under any circumstances buy a designer watch from a street person. Don't become the proud owner of an always entertaining "BOLEX" watch. And buying watches from a gray market dealer is like buying a stereo from the back of a van at the bowling alley. You are not only hurting the legitimate market, but if you get home and it doesn't work, you are stuck with it.

Anybody here who owns an Oris? I kinda like the all-stainless mid-size model. I would like to have some feedback from Oris owners. Thanks.
Ive recently bought an Oris TT2 Day Date (because of its affiliation with Williams F1 Team, hehe). Its a huge silver carbon fibre look face (40.5mm) and the bracelet (metal, not rubber) is heavy and seems very matibay. Automatic, and as its description says, it shows the Day and Date. I think its pretty good value for money.
Other watches i have are Tag Heuers and Technomarine.
No complaints with my Tags, my oldest is 15 years old and still going strong. Heirloom na ito when i have kids.
I like my Techno (Cruise) too. Sporty. My only complaints with Technomarine are
1. the clear gel strap does get off-color after awhile. Fortunately, they are replaceable.
2. sometimes (maybe it is just me) i cannot seem to screw in the the gel for the face correctly. sometimes it isnt a perfect fit.
Could have bought a Rolex, went for an engagement ring instead. ;)

samantha jones - are you here in manila? tommy hilfiger is sold at No Curfew.
i'm a watch addict. when buying a watch, my requirements are simple:
1. automatic - i don't like changing batteries. :)
2. waterproof - I feel naked without a watch so i'd like a watch i woulnd't need to take off even in the beach...
3. functional: whether formal or casual
4. stainless steel bracelet - leather looks really nice, but i sweat a lot and leather tends to smell when you sweat excessively.
for affordable watches, i like fossil bic tic, the fossil philippe starck watch, nike, swatch skin, swatch divers...

I bought a Fossil Titanium watch several years ago and brought it to the beach 3 weeks after I bought it. It's supposed to be water resistant and durable (It's supposed to be Titanium) so I wore it while swimming at the beach. As I prepared to go home, I was horrified to see a crack on the crystal face and the whole interior of the watch was all fogged up. I guess the glass wasn't made of Titanium.
I brought it to Fossil to have it fixed (there was supposed to be a warranty) and they replaced the crystal with an ugly, convex looking dull glass for P 1000. I was thinking oh, well I guess I have to live with this ugly looking watch from now on. But to my shock, 2 days later, the interior of the watch was fogging again. It was then I decided to write Fossil a letter. I started off complimenting them about the beautiful design and value for money the watch I had and then proceeded to tell them my unfortunate tale.
A week later I got a response from Fossil's Hongkong office asking me to send them the damaged watch and they will replace it for free. I checked the cost of shipping it to Hongkong round trip and found it exhorbitant (if I include the repair of the glass face) and just decided to cut my losses and live with an ugly watch.
But lo and behold!.... exactly a month later, I got a brand new exact model Fossil Titanium watch with a free Fossil Cap in the mail! And to think I didn't even send the damaged one.
I now a have a third Fossil watch, a beautiful He-man-sized Speedway Chronograph. But I bought that for 6K last year.

Being a watch enthusiast, there is a difference when a watchmaker declares their watches as being "water resistant" and "water proof". Water resistant means the watch can withstand exposure to water like rain, an accidental washing or dropping in the sink or a once in a while shower. It will not withstand long exposure to water such as swimming, diving and when one engages in activity involving long exposure to water. Water proof is the exact opposite of water resistant. The seals of a water proof watch could withstand extended water exposure. But be wary, a water proof watch has depth limitation due to pressure build up underwater which the seals may not withstand. Only divers' watches have pressure release buttons which could withstand deep water pressure. Samples of these include IWC Aquatimer, Rolex Submarine, Omega divers, Panerai divers, TAG Divers. I think Casio, Seiko, Citizen have their versions.
You are lucky to have gotten a replacement. Sea water is VERY CORROSIVE!!! Even stainless steel divers' knives rust on sea water if not washes with fresh water after a dive.

I think what destroyed my watch on the beach were the small stones and rocks that get washed ashore with the waves. Possibly a fair sized pebble with enough momentum was able to chip a piece of the glass. The watch had no problem with corrosion since it's supposed to be made of Titanium.
On stainless steel watches, a very competent saleslady of Time Trends was able to convince me to buy another Fossil when she told me that the watch was not just stainless steel on the bracelet but it was stainless steel ALL OVER. *okay*

This is because 90% of the movements made for all watches worldwide are from three sources: Seiko, Citizen, and ETA.
Seiko and Citizen make the majority of the japanese quartz movements while ETA makes the majority of the swiss automatic and quartz movements. In essence, when you buy a watch, lets say a fashion one like guess with a japanese quartz movement, it is more than likely either a base seiko or citizen quartz movement. The same holds true for swiss brands. The movement in an Omega is no different from that of a Tissot, a base ETA automatic movement that has been modified, but the price difference is huge....most Tissots are in the mid range from $200 - $2000 while the Omegas are in the higher end with prices starting in the $2000 and upwards.
My choices for the best made watches that are moderately priced and are of excellent quality:
Japanese - Seiko and Citizen
Swiss - Tissot and Hamilton (which actually is the last american brand....but bought by the swiss a few years back....so the style of their watches are american but the movements are swiss.....)
:D

I have one omega watch for special ocassions, and two guess watches. I like guess watches because of its chic design. i've just recently bought one...in very good deal from ebay. i got to save around P2000!!! Then now, I'm eyeing one Nike watch also from the same seller. Ganda rin kasi ng Nike for the sporty watches. I go to gym so gusto ko pag nag gym ako, sporty watch naman;) haha, ang arte ko!!!

i would love to have a chopard -- my boss wears a chopard chronograph everyday to work... sobrang ganda
for now my speedy omega is my fave
Rolex is ok... but for me its more a kind jewelry than a time piece
fashion watches are also ok.. i have a kenneth cole quartz and i wear it to the beach, its good hasn't broken down...
Fossil has nice styles but from my experience they are not that reliable

Technomarine does not appreciate...at all. It's just a fashion watch. Same with Toy Watch and the Teslar.
It's a good starter's watch but I would recommend Tag Heuer or Oris instead.
Or, SEIKO. Cheap and practical. For men, I recommend the latest Sport 5. Just less than P10,000 (without discount pa) you get an automatic divers watch.

I love my techno watch! can wear it casual and office clothes. it's hip and may dating. And i've brought it to the beach a dozen times already and it's still working. loove it. Unlike the toywatch, which is just water resistant, the techno watch is water proof. For those who love to swim in the beach, get a technomarine! =)

^I agree, maganda Seiko. I like the Sport 5 divers watch, I think it's around 10k.
Talking about watches, does anyone here have a watch made out of stainless steel? How do you prevent it from having scratches, kasi the more I'm careful na hindi siya magasgas, lalo siyang nagagasgas. I have the Casio GShock, made from stainless steel http://www.gshock.com/resource/images/product/lrg/G1800D-3A_lrg.png.

I have a weakness for watches.
So far:
Tag Heuer series 1000 oversized divers
Tag Heuer series 2000 stainless/white face
Tage Heuer series 2000 stainess/black face
Seiko 1970's vintage Sports 5 bullhead chrono
Seiko Orange monster divers
Rolex Submariner stainless
others: Swatch Irony, Seiko automatic,
I would love to have Tag Heuer Monaco, Panerai 1950.
I'm working on it!
