Curious lang ako, kahit na wala akong wheels nakakakita ako ng mga luxury cars at nagtataka lang ako kung ano pinagkaiba nila sa regular cars bukod sa makina, ano pa ang mga important details?

tax, customs officials have the mentality na whenever a person can afford to buy imported cars, you can also afford to pay the "taxes".

Yeah, it's a compilation of a whole lot of things, dollar rate, customs taxes, shipping charge, dealer profit, registration, insurance, and so on...

As to the actual car price, luxury cars usually have more ammenities and better performance as you say... the name and prestige works itself into the price as well... names like Ferrari, Aston Martin, McLaren, and the like are known largely for their names... of course, a name is always based upon an excellent reputation of quality and performance, so in retrospect, you're really getting what you pay for. :|

Then again, if it's performance you're after, there are far cheaper cars that can go the distance as well. Choices shouldn't end with luxury cars alone. :)

TAX. The Philippines slaps a 100% tax on all imported vehicles. A 300k peso value car becomes 600k; and a 2M luxury car becomes 4M. It's that simple.

Considering this big money earning scheme, it is a wonder why the Philippines is still poor.

Ano po ba ang definition ng luxury cars dyan sa atin?

Dito po kasi sa US, the US federal government currently defines a luxury vehicle as one with a transaction price of $38,000 or more. The 6 percent luxury tax is assessed on the amount in excess of $38,000.

There are a few vehicles from those supposedly Japanese luxury car brands that boasts of a $38K price tag. Acura and Infiniti has only one car to show which are the NSX and Q45 respectively though Infiniti also has the upcoming M45 topping the $38K tag. Lexus has the GS430, LS430, LX470, SC430 and the upcoming GX470. Ofcourse, some cars like the MDX, QX4, GS300 and RX300 exceeds the $38K price tag with added options but this doesn't make them a true "LUXURY" vehicle. Maraming naga-advertise na luxuxry cars yung kotse nila pero as a consumer dapat alam natin kung ano talaga ang criteria to be considered as a luxury car.

I guess quality of everything in it...engine, safety measures, Luxerious interious (leather seats, Woodgrain interior) & ammenities, and maybe those high-tech modifications not normally found in mid-price vehicles.

But I guess majority, TAX!!!

It's funny how Filipinos regard the Expedition as a luxury car when it is supposedly just a large SUV. The luxury version of the Expedition is actually the Lincoln Navigator

May pa "it's funny it's funny" pa kayo dyan.

Yung mga nakakabiyahe sa tate o sa ibang bansa, huwag kayo masyadong mainit sa pag-compare sa "luxury" vehicles sa pinas at sa ibang bansa..........I think the question for this thread was really pointing towards luxury cars in the Phils.

Siyempre economy-wise mas lamang ang western countries sa actual depiction of luxury since mas merong room for big spending. Marketing also plays a big part. Like for example yung Camry, the largest engine dsiplacement is 2.4 sa pinas samantalang may V6 yan sa ibang bansa. But its doesn't matter kasi yung interior (navigation etc etc) parehon ding may luxury options. Hindi lang talaga mabenta ang mga 6 cylinder sa atin kasi we were never really exposed to the muscle car market. But I tell you what, we have in pinas our own share of luxury car owners that can really match up with the rich guys of the west....hindi lang sa atin exposed. Baka ma-kidnap eh....Sa atin lang ata mayroong tax collector sa BIR na mayroong 4 na 4wd all luxury vehicles!!!! Mayroon ba ang tate nun?

Medyo cool ba sa mga nakakabiyahe abroad to bash the phils just to prove you travel around?

As a reply to the question, tax is a major contributor but skim pricing is another.

a ferrari 360 modena worth around $150K-180K (PhP 8.25M-9.9M) is worth roughly PhP 22M brand new here in the philippines.

a Jaguar X-type 2.0 worth around $25K (PhP 1.375M) is worth PhP 2.2M brand new as well.

i believe that the luxury tax in the Philippines is over 100%.

if you have ever driven or even just rode a mercedes benz SLK or a Ferrari f355 berlinetta, you would know why they are worth that much. If you open the windows of the Ferrari going close to 200Kph through the tunnel in EDSA-Ayala (yes, the ferrari CAN go through edsa!), the sheer beauty of the screaming engine behind you is well worth the money you paid for the car. :D

it just sucks that the prices more than doubles once it reaches Phiippine shores...

the performance, the technology, the art, the craftsmanship, the sheer mastery of machine. that's what you pay for, actually.

'*** naman...we're not bashing...at least not me. Siguro in my point of view we're just critisizing that in the people in the Philippines pay like what....more than a million pesos to purchase a merely modified car just to say its a luxerious car but in reality its not.

What we're implying here kung ano ang totoong classifications ng mga cars that are being sold in the Philippines.
