hi evryone, sori kung ***** lang ako nagpost, i've been enjoying the weekend in having enough rest. yesterday, i and 2 of my ofizmates went to robinsons place manila. amir is actually courting my ofizmate so he texted us nasa rehearsal daw sila nila echo for piolos's concert. so i also texted echo asked him if he could send some pics of him thru mms, and guys he did. on the way home, my mobile pone rang and when i checked it, it's a msg from mms, so i assume that it has to be echo, at di nga ako nagkamali. ang guapo nya sa pinadala nya sa akin. i again texted him kaninang afternoon. i jaz say gudluck sa performance nya at nagpasalamat naman sya at sinabi na enjoy day ako.

People who have gotten used to seeing Jericho Rosales in clean-cut, boy-next-door roles are in for a big surprise when his next movies come out. Echo is now shooting a movie with Claudine Barretto tentatively called "Lihim," where he drops his innocent boyish image to play an edgy character. In his other project, directed by Laurice Guillen, he is a tourist guide who's up to no good.

"I'm not tired of wholesome roles," says Echo. "It's just that I need to grow as an actor. I feel this is the right time to broaden my perspective, para maging exciting naman ang career ko ."

Not that he's unhappy about his career. Jericho, who turns 25 this year, says, "This is the best time of my life. My soap ("Sana'y Wala Nang Wakas") is doing well. I'm excited about my two new movies. I'm going through a lot of challenges right now. I have to make decisions about my career and private life. I'm through with my happy-go-lucky days. I'm gonna start creating my own thing."

His main love right now is surfing and when he has free time, which is a rare occurrence, he goes to the beach and stays on his surfboard from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. with a short break at midday for lunch. On top of this, he's thinking of learning to fly a plane. "I've always dreamed of becoming a pilot even when I was a kid but I didn't have the financial resources," Echo enthuses.

Echo's ultimate dream is to buy a beach property where he can surf, fly his plane and do good movies at the same time. Is having someone special part of that dream? "Of course, it is. It's good to have somebody with me while fulfilling my dreams," says Echo. The actor admits there is someone close to his heart right now. When we asked if she was a show biz personality, the actor was tight-lipped. "I'd rather not talk about it. I want to keep my peace."

Jericho is currently being linked to Cindy Kurleto, the Filipino-Austrian, who used to co-host "Magandang Tanghali Bayan" on ABS-CBN and is a popular model. They were even reportedly sighted in Vienna when Echo went abroad to fulfill a singing engagement with The Hunks. If true, it confirmed speculations that he had broken off with Kristine Hermosa, his perennial reel love interest. Cindy has earned the ire of fans of the Echo-Kristine love team because she is being blamed for the break-up of the duo both on and off screen. That's probably why Echo chose to remain quiet about his love life. He didn't want to add feel to the fire.

Since we're on the subject of girls, I grill Echo on the kind of girls that turns him on..

Short hair or long hair? "Long. She can always cut it short when she wants to."

Mini-skirt or tight-fitting dress. "Tight-fitting. I can see the shape of her body and let my imagination fill in the blanks."

Outgoing or shy girls? "Outgoing. But their assertiveness has to be in place. They must know how to behave and must be well-bred and intelligent.

Plump or slim?. "Plump. I'm a huggy-huggy person and there's nothing much to hug with a slim person."

Morena or tisay. " Tisay. Nakakasilaw ang kagandahan nila ."

Big or small boobs. "It doesn't matter. A handful is enough."

Strong or mild perfume. "Mild. I get dizzy when the girl uses a lot of it."

As far as his career is concerned, he believes in letting things take their natural course. He believes that somewhere along the way, he'll get his due. "I'm not in a rush." This has always been his philosophy and it has worked for him so far. When he started in show biz, he just wanted a chance to share his talent with the public. He wanted to be Mr. Simple Shoes so he was surprised when his fans started fussing over him. He likes the adulation but sometimes he says some fans go overboard and become disrespectful.

He says he is a competitive person but looks at challenges as an incentive to improve himself. "I don't look at my fellow actors and ask 'how can I be better than them?' I look inwards. Competition brings out the best in me. I do not try to outshine the others. What it does is give me the drive to perform better."

This is the principle he adopts when he performs with The Hunks, a singing group composed of fellow ABS-CBN talents Piolo Pascual, Diether Ocampo, Carlos Agassi and Bernard Palanca. Each person is given a chance to shine at concerts and TV appearances. When the group started out, the audience response was terrific. They filled up the Folk Arts Theater and other big venues. But because the members have their individual careers to think of, this took priority over the activities of The Hunks as a group. Today, the group is no longer as active as before and Echo is sad about this development.

Echo is candid in admitting that he still finds it difficult to shed tears in front of the camera, which is one important skill that an actor has to have specially in soaps. Echo, who has two soaps currently running on ABS-CBN, "Pangako sa Yo" and "Sana'y Wala Nang Wakas," says he's sensitive but is not an overly emotional person. When the script calls for him to cry, he sits down with the director to discuss his motivation. Is shedding tears really necessary?

When the scene does calls for him to shed tears, he prefers that it be done when he is completely rested. He says he finds it hard to be emotional at the end of a shooting day which is usually at two or three in the morning.

Although he cries rarely off-camera, Echo narrates there had been times when he could not hold back his tears when disappointments piled up. There was time when The Hunks wasn't doing well despite the amount of work he put into the group. There have also been times when he couldn't do the things he wanted to do.

The actor doesn't want to be more specific. Probing deeper, I ask him what makes him mad. "When I work and nawawala ang humanity , pag sobrang walang pakialam . If they ignore your rights." That is quite a revelation coming from someone who always looks like a worry-free individual, someone without much angst and without a mean bone in his body. People sometimes take advantage of his Nice Guy image and he admits, "I have to get mad sometimes. I need to teach them a lesson."

With his busy schedule -- taping three days a week for his soaps, live appearance on "ASAP" on Sundays and his movies, Echo hardly has time to relax. So what does he do when the pressure is too much? "I keep quiet and go somewhere peaceful. I take a drive by myself. Sometimes I tinker with things in the house, watch TV."

With the new thrust in his career, Echo is taking a gamble that his fans will not mind his taking on edgier roles. As an actor, however, Echo knows that he cannot stagnate in goodie-goodie roles, that he has to expand his horizons and prove his versatility as an actor. There certainly is a risk involved but now that he's approaching his 25 th year, it's time to find out if he has what it takes to stay long in the fickle world of show business.
