They are wary to come out in the open to protect Echo's love team with Kristine Hermosa, which has a huge following. The actor sighs, "When we have taping with Echo, the whole cast is affected when Cindy and he have an LQ because wala siya sa mood sa (they aren't in the mood on the) set. We all have to adjust 'pag may tantrum na siya (when they have tantrums). What Echo wants, Echo gets. Poor Kristine, who has chosen to remain silent about the whole thing. Siguro, 'pag nag-expire na ang contract ni Echo sa ABS after a year, saka pa lang sila aamin ni Cindy na hindi naman talaga sila nag-break (Perhaps when Echo's contract with ABS-CBN expires after a year they'll admit they didn't break up)."

“For a relaxing time, make it Suntori time.” Eulogio Mormolo a.k.a., Jericho Rosales a.ka., Echo (to his legion of fans) intones mock-seriously during the shoot. We all crack up. He’s perched on a yellow Ducati bike, patiently waiting for us publishing types to get our act together and decide how we want him to pose. We were in the midst of shooting the cover, but he was also doing double duty as endorser for Fila, the sportswear line. While we were huddled around the polaroids, he’s hamming it up. Who knew that one of local showbiz’s most effective actors can be such a cut-up?

The line is particularly apt. It’s from the brilliant Lost in Translation, the scene in which Hollywood actor Bob Harris (played by the sublime Bill Murray) tries to figure out what his Japanese director is saying during a shoot of a Suntori Whisky ad. The scene is at once funny and sad, a bitingly accurate portrayal of celebrity-dom and the attendant arid loneliness of life constantly under the glare of the spotlight.

The movie must’ve struck a nerve in Jericho. The setting and circumstances were apropos, after all. While he sat isolated in a little island of light, behind-the-scenes people were running here and there, fixing up details to make this the perfect shoot, all ironically ignoring him, the principal reason why we were there in the first place. It’s a capsule version of what he must experience every day of his life. At the center of everything, yet seemingly an afterthought, the end-product being more important than individuals involved.

Eulogio Mormolo, i believe, is the name of Bill Murray's character in Lost in Translation..sorry, haven't seen the movie but from what i understood from the article they were portraying echo as the character in the movie who was shooting a commercial.

Piolo and Jericho: Seeing i2i

It was a sunny afternoon when I pulled up the driveway of famed retailer and restaurateur Ricco Ocampo’s chic Forbes Park house. The living room of this cool, 1960s-inspired house is full of whimsical details: A purple rug, purple couch, green sofas, an animal-print carpet and larger-than-life flowers. As if those weren’t eye-catching enough, I caught sight of i2i New York’s two hunky endorsers, actors Jericho Rosales and Piolo Pascual.

Changing the way people look one eyewear at a time, i2i New York boasts having over a hundred kiosks in Metro Manila malls. It’s no surprise that just about everyone is wearing them, including actors/models Piolo Pascual and Jericho Rosales, and Phoemela Baranda.

Although the summer heat was blazing fiercely, we enjoyed a rather cool afternoon with a salad of greens, pasta, sandwiches and caramel-filled chocolate cake. Being the hearty eaters that they are, Piolo and Jericho gamely answered questions between bites.

Young Star: People say you will replace Aga Muhlach and Richard Gomez as the two biggest male superstars. What do you think about this?

Jericho Rosales: It’s always what people say: "People say...people say" (bursts out laughing).

Piolo Pascual: It’s always about them... about them... about them... (laughing).

Jericho: Hindi nga? Will replace?

Yeah, you’ll replace daw Aga and Richard.

Jericho: Huh? Generation lang ’yon. Tignan mo, may endorsements pa rin sila di ba? Iba pa rin sila and by the time we get older, ganon din, may papalit na sa amin na mga chipmunks.

Piolo: But honestly, Echo and I have seriously.... magkalaban kami.

Jericho: (laughs) Living together!

Piolo: What’s nice about us is we help each other and we’re comfortable with each other. We don’t compete against each other.

But what if both of you were up for the same role?

Piolo: We’re always up for the same roles. We just talk about it, and anyway it’s not up to us, it’s up to the producers.

Why did you decide to pursue a career in showbiz?

Jericho: I’ve always wanted to become an actor.

Since childhood?

Jericho: Yes. I won this personality contest seven years ago. It was called Mr. Pogi on Eat Bulaga. I kinda liked it. After that, I guested on TV shows and began hosting, then acting. I found out that I have a talent for acting – people believe me when I’m lying (laughs). So, I pursued it and it has brought me a lot of good things. In a way, I guess I found a purpose in my life coz now people and kids look up to me, which is a responsibility that I like. It’s also led me to become an endorser.

How did you become a model for i2i?

Jericho: Years ago, when they weren’t really looking for a model, they invited me to dinner to get to know me. They just asked me if I liked wearing shades, what my favorite was and if I wanted to endorse. We became friends and then sinabihan nila ako that they wanted to know me better, not just the image. It was that dinner that sealed it.

Piolo: I was offered two years ago, but then we got into some problems. When they renewed Echo’s contract, they decided to get me because there’s a different campaign now – it’s more young, hip and trendy – and they also got Phoem (Baranda). I think it’s more….it’s hard to say because Echo’s been endorsing with Donita, but I think they’re more aggressive now in terms of campaigning.

What makes i2i appeal to you?

Jericho: Why do I like it that much...it helps me a lot. First of all, it helps me with my career. It helps me build this connection with people, teens, and people my age. Siguro, I have hundreds of shades like these. I can have a different outfit now with a different shade and then change it later. It’s easy coz i2i shades are affordable and it’s comfortable, plus you have a lot of choices.

Piolo: I like it because it’s a local brand and it’s very trendy. It’s fashionable, you can wear it with anything at any time and they have a wide variety of choices.

So how many of those do you have right now?

Jericho: Madami na, siguro simula nung nagstart ako, I have enough to open my own i2i kiosk! Yung supply lang nila, sobrang dami and the shades are very small (shows me the pair he’s currently using).

Piolo: I own more than 20 at the moment.

How would you describe your fashion style?

Jericho: Free. Anything goes, hindi ako sumusunod sa uso. I like comfortable clothes. I like, um, sometimes I like clothes that are not mine. You know what I mean, clothes that are not my size, clothes that are comfortable. I love forever clothes, those that I can wear every day, every season, that never go out of style. That’s my fashion style.

Piolo: Safe. I’m more of a safe person. I go for casuals. I dress up only when there’s a need like when I go ASAP and I have to do TV appearances.

What’s your idea of a comfort wear?

Piolo: Loose shirt, boxer shorts.

Jericho: Comfort women?

Comfort wear...

Jericho: (laughs) I’d say shorts, board shorts. I love cotton T-shirts, blue jeans and rubber shoes or sandals. If it’s cold, a comfortable jacket and cap, that’s it. Very easy, not so many accessories.

Do you think it’s important for a guy to dress well?

Jericho: Yeah, people will believe you more if you dress well, and you also appear to have more charisma. Men are born to lead, and it’s impotant that they should never lose their charisma. Of course, there’s the porma factor to attract the opposite sex and dressing well is also ego thing – you want to look your best. The bottom line is you just have to be you.

Piolo: I think it’s important to be properly dressed for the occasion.

How about just on a normal day?

Piolo: A typical guy wants to wear something loose, either a shirt or a loose tank top, and walking shorts or boxers

What would you never be caught dead in?

Jericho: Pink suit, I don’t know. The worst siguro pag naging transvestite na ako! (laughs)

Piolo: Seventies outfits.

What’s wrong with the ’70s? You don’t like it?

Piolo: Yeah.

Who are your favorite designers?

Jericho: Hindi ako mahilig sa designer clothes eh.

Piolo: I cannot…I endorse.

What are your favorite brands?

Jericho: Lucky Strike, my sponsor Lee Jeans and, of course, I like the brands that sponsor me because I personally chose them. I like Italian clothes.

Piolo: Hammerhead.

What are your five must-have accessories?

Jericho: Toothbrush, toothpaste, cologne, wax paper, nail cutter.

Piolo: Watch, shades, necklace, lip balm and cell phone.

What is the most expensive fashion item that you own?

Jericho: I don’t really buy expensive stuff coz I’m sponsored. Siguro a pair of shoes that costs P8,000.

Piolo: What comes to my mind is maybe the watch I got from Timex recently. It’s worth P15,000.

How about the most expensive item you ever bought?

Piolo: Prada bag, which I bought when I was in Milan. I bought several bags there.

You remember how much they cost you?

Piolo: The bags cost 2,900 euros, so that’s around P200,000.

What is the one thing you hate seeing women wear?

Jericho: There’s nothing I hate about women….whatever makes them happy.

Piolo: Loud accessories, big accessories, anythign that’s distracting. I like it simple.

What are you fond of seeing women wear?

Jericho: (smiles devilishly) Biglang napangiti! Lingerie looks good, the cute ‘60s sporty outfits or board shorts or beach wear in summer. During rainy days, I love them wearing wool – wala lang, simple lang. Cute ang dating sa akin ng girl na covered pero hindi naman siya ang init ng dating parang hindi na makakilos. Cute ang button clothes.

Piolo: Bright colors and something that fits her body structure

Do you consider yourself a homebody or a party goer?

Jericho: Homebody….I can always have a party at home!

Piolo: I’m a homebody because of my work. So whenever I get free time, I just go home and sleep, I relax and that’s my comfort time. I just really try to sleep so it’s really boring. I just stay home.

Where do you like to hang out?

Jericho: Beach coz I surf.

Why do you like surfing so much?

Jericho: I love nature. The beach gives me an appreciation for Mother Earth and Mother Nature. It’s hard to explain...it relaxes me a lot. It’s a thing I never get tired of.

Piolo: In my room, in my house.

What are your favorite restaurants?

Piolo: Max’s.

Jericho: I like Filipino restaurants.

Oh, you’re a rice eater…

Jericho: Yes, I’m a growing boy. You cannot deprive me of rice (laughs).

How much rice can you eat in one meal?

Jericho: I eat this much rice (shows an extra large bowl that can hold around five scoops).

Piolo: Four servings in one meal, I can eat that much. I love eating rice. I can eat more than one chicken.

That much? How do you burn all that?

Jericho: I play.

Piolo: I run a lot. I do cardio. I work out only once or twice a month but I run a lot. I run regularly and whenever I have spare time, I work out.

What sports are you into?

Piolo: Nothing really, I’m just training for martial arts, submission. It’s an interesting sport. It’s a type of defense – you do it for the soul. It’s becoming a hobby and I do it regularly with my trainer.

How about when it comes to fast food, what do you like?

Jericho: Popeye’s Chicken.

What is the one dish that you don’t mind having over and over again?

Jericho: It’s always chicken, anything to do with chicken, and lots of rice. Chicken and rice, pakbet and rice! Basta gulay, mahilig ako sa gulay.

Piolo: Chicken. The way Max’s serves it. I can eat more than one spring chicken in one sitting.

What words do you live by?

Jericho: I always say don’t stop dreaming, just keep living.

Piolo: Always go for the best. Always follow the right path and go with the flow.

What keeps you in showbiz?

Jericho: I like it, I love it.

Piolo: My attitude.

How do you deal with showbiz intrigues?

Jericho: I love good reviews. People who spread chismis, I don’t have respect for them. They’re just wasting their time.

Piolo: It’s part of showbiz.

How has fame affected your life?

Piolo: It’s brought me closer to God.

Jericho: Big time. It affected me big time.

Do you still get to go out?

Jericho: Yes. Lumalabas pa rin ako. I have a lot of responsibilities now, but I also try to enjoy pa rin.

How do you keep fit?

CARLOS: I try to go to the gym at least four times a week. Dicipline 'yun. Kahit puyat ako, o tinatamad I have to go to the gym and work out for at least an hour and a half. I try to eat the right food and sleep at least six to five hours a day.

PIOLO: I masturbate. No, I'm just kidding. Ha-ha-ha! I jog regularly, as much as possible. I love running everyday. It's just like a habit. It's something I really should do to keep fit because running helps me burn a lot of fat. And if I have more time, I work out sa gym.

JERICHO: I workout. Kain. The regular things that I do. Tulog. Surfing, basketball and sometimes baseball. I used to play hockey before. Basically sports keep me fit.

DIETHER: Ako, I try to workout four times a week. I watch my diet. I try not to include any sodium and sugar in my diet.

BERNARD: I stay happy and try to be healthy.

It's a fact that girls swoon over you, do you have any idea?

CARLOS: Mero'n ba? Wala. Wala akong alam diyan. Siguro dahil pangit ako. Humanap ka ng pangit. It's really hard to come from me. Maybe we should ask the girls instead.

PIOLO: I don't know. Ha-ha-ha! It's flattering but I really can't tell, why.

JERICHO: Ah, wala!Kasi, 'di mo naman masasabi. Siguro ako lang talaga 'yun. Kung ano lang talaga ako. I am being me. What comes out, that's what you get.

DIETHER: I really don't have any idea. Maybe it's part of being watched on a regular show like ASAP. That might be one reason why, and perhaps because girls get to watch some of my movies.

BERNARD: I really don't know. I don't think of it. I focus on other things.

Have you received some indecent proposals what with the kind of job you're in?

CARLOS: Usually when I have a concert, specially when I am with the ASAP Hunks. A lot. I find it funny and weird 'cause some proposals would come from some na you don't expect, kasi sa 'itsura nila. Pasimple pang may tissue (paper), or love letter, or susi. Or some would give lingering glances. Nakakatawa lang but I get flattered. I just laugh.

PIOLO: Yeah, but I really never take it seriously. It was just all in passing. Before it could reach me kasi, dumadaan na sa manager ko, so hindi na umaabot sa 'kin.

JERICHO: Yeah! But hindi naman masyadong garapal. Parang biru-biro lang.

DIETHER: Yes, a lot of times. But I try not to offend them naman by saying na I'm not the type who would accept.

BERNARD: Not now. Long time ago before I entered show business, yes. But I never accepted and never will.

Have you already thought of an alternative to your showbiz career?

CARLOS: Ah! I guess I have to save up, so I could come up with my own recording company and produce albums for other recording stars. Or I could put up my own school for special children because I am taking up Psychology and Guidance Counselling now in La Salle. Or perhaps I could teach in college in an all-girl school. No, 'am just kidding. Maybe I could also work behind the cameras. But I'm a people-person eh. If you'd put me in front of a ledger and just do accounting, I'd get lazy. If you'd put me in front of a computer, I'd get sleepy. I want to be in front of people where there's a direct interaction.


PIOLO: Eventually, after my career in Manila, I wanna go back to the States and live a simpler life with my family. It maybe two or three years from now. It depends 'cause I don't know how long I am gonna last in this business.

JERICHO: I would want to put up my own business. Pwede ring maging employed ako, or what. Maybe put up a restaurant, gano'n.

DIETHER: I'm planning to get back to the restaurant business. Perhaps, I will work behind the cameras. Eventually I will be directing.

BERNARD: My band will always be a part of me.

Idea of marriage at this point in your life.

CARLOS: I'll settle down when I'm emotionally and financially stable. Siguro, when I reach the age of 30 to 34. By that time I could give more time to my family. I'm not in a hurry because I want to fulfill my promise to my parents which is to buy them a resthouse.

PIOLO: It's not in my plans yet but I want to get married when I'm 33 or 34. That's when I'm really stable financially and emotionally.

JERICHO: The classic. Simbahan. Formal and traditional. Maybe I'll have two kids, although gusto ko madami.

DIETHER: It's a big responsibility. It's something that should not be taken as a joke.

BERNARD: Marriage? It will come. It will happen. I'd be a great husband and a better father than my lolo Armando Goyena.

Do you believe in soulmates?

CARLOS: Yeah. I believe in soulmates. I believe in destiny. I believe in fate.

PIOLO: Yeah. I believe in destiny. I believe in dreams and I believe in all these fairy tales. When it comes to my having a soulmate, I know my soulmate would come in time.

JERICHO: I can't explain. I believe in fate, or destiny.

DIETHER: Yes, I do. And I believe I haven't found my soulmate yet.

BERNARD: Yeah. I do and I've found my soulmate already.

Qualities of a woman that can make you easily fall for her?

CARLOS: I like girls who are sweet, malambing, thoughtful, masarap magluto, masarap kasama, down-to-earth. Somebody who could carry a conversation. Somebody who'd go to church with me. 'Tapos kadikit niya 'yung mommy ko. Wala na, in love na ako no'n.

PIOLO: Honesty, simplicity and she should be God-fearing.

JERICHO: She should be sweet. A sporty one. Kind-hearted, that's it.

DIETHER: The triple "S". Sensitive, smart and sweet. Sensitive because some girls, they don't care much about how guys also feel, eh. Girls seem to care only about how they feel and tend to forget that guys can be emotional, too. Smart, 'cause I want someone to talk with but she should be intellectually stimulating. Sweet because I myself is also sweet. I want reciprocation, of course.

BERNARD: Can I give you one name? Rica Peralejo. She's everything. She's my inspiration. She's my love.

Does virginity still matter to you?

CARLOS: Huh, not anymore! Basta mahal ko, mahal ko. But if she's a virgin, then it's okay. But if she's not a virgin anymore, it's still okay. I'd love a girl for what she is.

PIOLO: No, I don't think so. It never will matter to me. I respect the past life of a person, so I look forward to the present, or the future.

JERICHO: You don't depend on that. You don't base love on virginity.

DIETHER: No, not anymore. So as long as I love the girl, I won't care about her past.

BERNARD: Well.No. Not really. For me, it's a matter of loving the person for who she is. Not for what she has done in the past. Virginity is not an issue.

How do you manage to keep your life private despite the fact that you're in the public eye?

CARLOS: I try to be as sincere and as honest as possible without hurting anybody. And kasama na rin do'n na, if I'd go out on a date with a girl, I'd ask permission if she wants to keep it private, or what. In my case it's not a problem 'cause if I have a girlfriend, I'd be very proud. Ipagmamalaki ko siya. But if she'd want na kami-kami lang nakakaalam, I'd respect that.

PIOLO: I spend as much time I can in the house with my family. I think those are the times as my private moments and I won't let anybody take that away from me. Nobody even knows where my house is.

JERICHO: Private life is private. 'Yung mga private stuff, you don't need to tell to showbiz people. Hindi lahat ng ginagawa mo sa buhay mo showbiz.

DIETHER: Usually I just stay home. Basically, only family members lang ang nakakaalam where I live.

BERNARD: It's hard but I try my best. lalo na the personal things, I really keep it to myself.

Name at least three gorgeous women in the 'biz?

CARLOS: KC Concepcion. She's beautiful. She's intelligent. Even though she's the daughter of the megastar, she looks simple and mabait. Number two is Claudine ( Barretto). Masarap kasama sa trabaho. Mabait, malambing, sweet, thoughtful and hindi ka niya pababayaan. She's a good friend. Third is Jolina (Magdangal). Masayang kasama and kalog. There ain't gonna be a dull moment when you're with her.

PIOLO: Kristine Hermosa. She's sexy and every inch a woman. Charlene Gonzalez. She's a beauty queen and a nice person. She's a very beautiful person. Judy Ann Santos. Judy Ann because of her simplicity. She's very Filipina in a lot of ways and that's what I like about her.

JERICHO: Gorgeous ones? Si Tintin (Kristine Hermosa). She's so beautiful. And then Charlene. I admire her talaga. I find Angel Aquino sobrang. alam mo 'yun? Parang you get attracted easily. Iba 'yung dating.

DIETHER: Rosanna Roces. She not only has a very beautiful face, she's also charming and has great sex appeal that even married guys could not resist. Dina Bonnevie is very sophisticated and she speaks well and has a very pleasant personality. Joyce Jimenez may look naïve but she has this enigma.

BERNARD: Rica. She's my type, eh. I like the anime' looking women. Aside from Rica, I like Pops (Fernandez). She's very pretty. And of course Ms. Zsa Zsa (Padilla). She's got so much class, in such a way that she alone can carry na, "Hey, I'm Zsa Zsa Padilla!"

i was listening to the radio program ng mismo...you know naman na everything i hear from it na about echo i always share with you...kahit yung sinabi ng manager ni cindy, yung puerto galera ni tin...yesterday, one of their news item was about cindy being a denial queen...diba cindy has been denying the fact that she had a relationship with echo?first, the hosts said something like...hayaan na natin sila tutal tapos na naman yung relasyon nila...then Ms.M(rochelle manahan), said agad na "hindi naman ata true na nagbreak sila from other sources"...jobert said parang alam niya rin yun...he said na strategy lang daw yun para magstop na yung press sa pangungulit sa kanila...Ms.M said na "jericho and cindy if you are listening dont hide na yung relationship ninyo?as if naman maapektuhan yung ekonomiya ng pinas pag umamin kayo...she said to cindy na...super ganda daw ni cindy bakit kelangan niya pang itago yung relasyon nila...

im very facinated by vampires and i think if i will see Echo playing a vampire is one of the good thing i'v ever seen in my life. :lol: he's gorgeous, its hard to believe he's not truly a vampire... when i look into his eyes(in movies and pictures i mean) there is something hidden, something dark, that make the role of a vampire fit him the most! he is mysterious.. so sexy :)
